My Aero Club

E

xperience by Andy Schloemer

I am a prior-Enlisted Airman who spent eightand-a-half years as a MC-130P Avionics troop at Eglin AFB, and then as a UH-1N Flight Engineer at Yokota Air Base. While I was at Yokota, I began pursuing my goal of becoming an Air Force Pilot through OTS. I started and finished my degree online through Embry-Riddle while I simultaneously earned my Private Pilot License (PPL) through the Yokota Aero Club and continued to fly and work as a Flight Engineer in the Huey.

Sheppard AFB, TX. While there, I flew the T-6A and T-38C, and I was eventually selected to fly the F-15E Strike Eagle.

After being selected for OTS, I attended and commissioned in October 2014. While I was at OTS I applied for and was selected to attend Euro NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT) at

I graduated from the Strike Eagle Basic course held at Seymour Johnson AFB in July and I am now currently stationed at RAF Lakenheath, U.K. for my first operational tour.

Andy Schloemer I will echo the prior sentiments I mentioned to the Aero Club team at Yokota. From the top down, from management to maintenance, the Aero Club program at Yokota is top notch. The work the team puts in to ensure quality training is available to each student and member is very apparent. Also, the upgrades to the aircraft that have been petitioned for and finally installed, and more importantly, maintained, provide members with an experience unmatched by any other club I have seen. For me, with the prospect of moving on to more advanced aircraft later on in life — the upgrades to the aircraft at Yokota set the basis for understanding how to interpret and bring more advanced instrumentation into your crosscheck. Not to mention the obvious increase in safety provided by aircraft that provide top notch situational awareness and increased power is noteworthy. With all of that considered, it is incredible how affordable it was to get my license through Yokota. I think the team perfectly handled maintaining competitive prices to keep customers interested and returning while still keeping the club operating in a healthy manner. From my application being competitive to my eventual success through pilot training — I tie a lot of my accomplishments to having a solid base of aviation knowledge and airmanship that I gained while flying at the Yokota Aero Club & Flight Training Center.

The Aero Club & Flight Training Center provides a multitude of services geared towards assisting Airmen with getting their pilots license. Services include monthly flight safety meetings, free Federal Aviation Administration written exam, and more. For additional information, check out page 25 or YokotaFSS.com/Aero-Club.

Originating in the 14th century, Noh is a form of Japanese theater performance involving music, dance and drama. It was developed together with Kyogen, which are comical pieces performed during interludes of the main Noh performance. The dual art of Noh and Kyogen is known as Nogaku, and was listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. During the Tokugawa Period (1603-1867), the shogunate made Noh its official ceremonial art and issued regulations for its governance. Noh then

became increasingly standardized, with an emphasis on tradition rather than innovation. Noh theater is structured around song and dance. Movement is slow, language is poetic, tone is monotonous, and costumes are rich and heavy. Plots are usually drawn from Japanese legends, history, literature and contemporary events. Themes often relate to dreams, supernatural worlds, ghosts and spirits. Noh is performed on a square stage with a roof that is supported at its four corners

Visit YokotaFSS.com/ITT for more information.

by pillars. All sides of the stage are open except for the back side which consists of a wall with a painted image of a pine tree. A bridge runs at an oblique angle off the stage for performers to enter the stage. Noh used to be typically staged outdoors, but recently modern indoor theaters have also become a common venue. Don’t miss out on this centuries-old Japanese tradition!
