Moving overseas can be challenging, but it can be harder for spouses to leave everything they’ve known and worked for. The Airman & Family Readiness Center (A&FRC) allows spouses to become a part of the community through volunteering. With multiple opportunities and agencies, there’s a place for everyone. It starts with wanting to make a difference and stepping up for the community. Potential volunteers can visit the A&FRC for a one-on-one that includes an initial assessment to identify their schedule availability, interests, experience and volunteer goals.

After taking the initial assessment, the A&FRC establishes connections based on your answers with the agencies on base where you can make the most impact. Some volunteer opportunities include organizing the loan locker, coupon corner, helping at the A&FRC, training services (CPR), medical facility positions and emergency communications messages casework. OTHER AGENCIES THAT OFFER VOLUNTEER WORK INCLUDE: • USO • American Red Cross Association • 374th Medical Wing

Volunteering at Yokota Air Base provides opportunities to grow personally and professionally. When volunteering at the A&FRC participants are able to do what paid employees can do, including helping give briefings and implementing programs. Giving back to our community can ultimately lead to employment opportunities and networking which allows participants to fill their resume and provide growth while stationed overseas. “In the military we move so frequently that establishing connections with organizations is hard, and when you’re in a volunteer position you can actually network and expand your possibilities of getting a job” says Volunteer Resource Manager, Dailys Cintron.

Volunteering with the help of the A&FRC allows for participants to gain new skills and create lasting relationships. Pushing people out of their comfort zones and giving experience where finding a job that offers the same are far and few in between.“Volunteers have a tremendous impact on the well-being of our community the value of volunteerism is immeasurable, how can you put a value on ordinary people doing extraordinary things?”

LOOKING TO GET INVOLVED? CONTACT DAILYS CINTRON AT THE AIRMEN & FAMILY READINESS CENTER AT 225-8725.
