Centuries ago, samurai, ninja and oiran all lived in Edo — the place where Tokyo stands today. As any resident of Japan will tell you, the atmosphere of old Edo has long since evaporated. But don’t despair, the former capital of the Tokugawa shoguns continues to thrive in Nikko Edo Village. This unique theme park reproduces the customs, cultures and society of Japan’s Edo Period. Nikko Edo Village is a faithful re-creation of everyday life in old Edo. Visitors are transformed from mere onlookers into active participants in the daily activities of Edo townsfolk.

Tokyo DisneySea Tour cost includes bus transportation. It is not recommended to bring small children as the festival area will be crowded. There is a 20-minute walk from the bus to the festival area. Spectacular festival floats carrying crafted dolls with traditional Japanese festival decorations are paraded around the center of Kawagoe’s landmark Kurazukuri Street. Stare in awe at the sheer scale of the many festival floats. The Kawagoe Festival’s biggest highlight is the “Hikkawase” where floats meet at an intersection, face one another and compete in traditional Japanese style music comprised of flutes, drums and hand bells.
