MOON Moon has had a significant impact on the myths not only of Egypt and Greece, but also of the east familiar to us. In the east, so called, 'yin' and 'yang' of moon are regarded as the force making themselves balanced with each other, and it became the unique philosophy which interprets the creation and destruction of the universe. Such perceptions about moon can be found in ‘Chuseok’ in South Korea. Chuseok, the Korean Thanksgiving traces back to a religion related to the moon since ancient times. The sun was considered natural, but the full moon that came once a month brightening the dark night was thought to be something to be appreciated. Therefore, Chuseok took place on the day of the largest full moon, on 15th, August of the lunar calendar. Chuseok has significance for celebration. During Chuseok, family come together, share a hearty meal, look back into the past, thank for the present, and hope for good days in the future.
We expressed the meaning of the creation and the destruction in the moon through the shapes of waxing/waning moon and increasing/decreasing sounds depending on the number of people. The core message of this project is to give philosophical questions about doing things together in the individualism era. We hope that this project encourage the mutual growth of our contemporaries.
SYSTEM
This project is an interactive media work which consists of sound and lighting system. The moon, main object in this project, is getting brighter/darker according to increasing/decreasing the number of people sitting on the chairs. And the sounds of nature echo around. The sensor attached to the chairs detects the number of people on the chairs. This project operates by Arduino and Processing.
