Emelia Cox QUARANTINE PROJECTS

2020 | SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

I finally bit the bullet and created my freelance brand— now I had to start sharing my work. Everything was trial and error and I’ve enjoyed

the process but still can’t believe I’m sharing it with people. It’s giving me more confidence but I still have a long way to go.

2020 | SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

Being locked down, while uninspiring in some regards, has finally given me the time to create entirely for myself. For if I wasn’t forced to stay still for six weeks, I’m not entirely sure these spare time pieces would’ve come to fruition.

Poorva Deshmukh NOTEBOOK COVER DESIGNS

2019 | SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

The theme that I chose for the book covers is Indian doors and architecture. It gives perspectives on the changes of door styles over time in India. Therefore, one notebook will represent historic/palace doors, the second

will represent doors in rural areas and third will represent new, modern apartment–style doors. I have used a wide range of color schemes and line strokes to create organic as well as geometric illustrations which feature similarities to connect the three notebooks together.

Minh Ton-Nu CO2GO

2020 | SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

With the general Swinburne University concern for the climate crisis and their achievement for zero emissions by 2025, this website’s goal is to make the Swinburne Campus a more sustainable one by involving students in the process. By working with two other students, our team came up with a website to provide information and data about carbon emission and Swinburne’s process

towards its goal for students. The primary feature of the website is the “Daily Challenges” program where students can join and learn how to be more sustainable on campus. Additionally, students can connect, join the community, see what other members are doing, and discover events about sustainability on campus.

Brand & Identity Designers utilise multidisciplinary skills to produce functional, cohesive brand identities. A brand’s visual identity is interpreted by their target audience who perceives the brand’s voice in a particular manner.

Alex Duong AN YEN EATERY AND CAFÉ

2019 | SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

An Yen Eatery & Café is a small and ample Vietnamese diner in the centre of Melbourne. It brings a unique and nostalgic experience of Vietnamese home cook dishes to the Western community, with the authentic and original

recipes from my very hometown. With an ample and minimal dining area along with a decent and cozy atmosphere, customers would enjoy their time at our dinner while remembering Vietnam after a long time away from home.

Asha Massong SELF BRANDING: ASHA MASSONG 2020 | CURTIN UNIVERSITY

Asha’s brand identity is playful, bright and fun. It encapsulates the curious yet welcoming personality on which the brand is built. Strategic in execution; the brand mark is simple yet unique in its personalised characters. The pattern is lively and full of rhythm and flow, hence balancing out

the minimalism of the brand mark. Both of these elements are tied together through colour, vivid and inspiring, uniting the brand elements and allowing them to work in harmony with each application.

Charlotte Tiong NUMI ORGANIC TEA

2020 | SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

This project was for Brand and Identity Design University assignment, where we were briefed on creating a new brand identity for an ethical and sustainable company. I decided to re-brand Numi Organic Tea, who create herbal organic and ethically sourced teas that needed a new modern look to attract a younger demographic and fit into

the aesthetic trends of today’s society. I focused on the value of authenticity of the company and really highlighted a unique natural representation that demonstrated the culture of the tea and the company’s beliefs of bringing the community of tea lovers and curators together.

Print Design The freedom of print design allows individuals to create magazines, zines, posters and annual reports which convey a strong message to their audience. These formats are utilised to make a statement on an issue or topic, or to merely present business information in an effective manner— either way, print design provides freedom for designers to communicate information in a creative and innovative manner.

Anna Fay FINDING ALICE

2019 | SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

Finding Alice is an reinterpretation of Lewis Carroll’s famous novel Alice in Wonderland. This interpretation of the novel focuses on ‘falling down the rabbit hole’ of substance abuse. Alice’s world is completely black, however, as you turn the pages colour slowly starts to creep back into

her world as she engages with drugs and alcohol, making her feel as though this is the answer. The playing cards are a nod to the well–known drinking game ‘Kings Cup’ which is often played at parties and gatherings.

Photography The advancement of photographic technology alongside industry trends has rapidly shaped the way people use cameras and the format in which they shoot in. The powerful nature of new phone cameras has given more people access to high quality camera tools. Moreover, the popularity of film cameras has surged amongst younger people in the recent years, therefore encouraging a fresh perspective on the technique.

Gabrielle Versace BLUE

2019 | SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

The concept for this project was as simple as the name: Blue. This series was developed for my photography unit, in which I was elected the colour blue as the focal point of all of my shots. I focused a lot on utilising a narrow depth of field so

I could really capture the intricacies of the subject. I’ve always had an interest in capturing fine details and textures in an image so this was a really great project opportunity to do so.

My Dao LITTLE GEMS IN EVERYDAY LIFE 2020 | RMIT UNIVERSITY

Due to the lockdown, I could not go out far to explore cool places and practice film photography. I then realised that there are many nice things that I had never noticed in my neighbourhood because I walk past them every day. I started to appreciate

simple things more and I actively looked for the beauty in my surroundings. Also, I learned that any ordinary thing could look spectacular in photos if you know how to capture them.

Natalie De Niese BLACK LIVES MATTER

2020 | RMIT UNIVERSITY

These artworks were created by painting on my body and then making impressions onto the fabric. I integrated myself into the work by using my body as a tool to create the art, and in a sense bringing the work to life. This intentionally juxtaposes against how carelessly life can be taken without a second thought just because of a person’s skin colour.

I CAN’T BREATHE was directly responding to the murder of George Floyd in America and David Dungay who was an Indigenous man who died in custody in Sydney, Australia 2015. Both men died with their last words being “I can’t breathe”.
