Young Life is a charter member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) and has maintained that membership through a yearly review of its compliance with the ECFA’s standards.

Young Life was incorporated in 1941 by Jim Rayburn, a seminary student and part-time youth minister in Gainesville, Texas, who wanted to reach out to kids disinterested in church. Rayburn went where kids were and found creative ways to share the love of God with them. His methods continue to transform lives today. Minakshi Sehwani

" ... Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life." — 1 Timothy 1:15-16, NIV

AREA OVERVIEW

MINAKSHI’S STORY Life with Jesus began at the age of 6, saying yes to Him in the first grade. Although the seed of salvation was planted in my youth, my desire to pursue an intimate relationship with Jesus only really began during my time in college. For most of my undergrad years, I always felt the need to “have it all together,” making sure I knew exactly what career path I was going to take. The problem was, I never brought these desires to Jesus. I didn’t include Him in the decision-making process and what it was that He was calling me to. This path of life took a 180° turn when I had the opportunity to serve with a Young Life International camp with a team from my home church in August of 2018. It was there that the Holy Spirit said to me, “This is where you’re meant to be.” Ministry with high school students was not part of “my plan” and I definitely did not “have it all together.” I had no choice but to invite Jesus into this new plan and purpose He had for my life, and I’m so glad I did! Now, four years after I said yes to Jesus through pursuing ministry, learning and growing in my passion for high school students and my desire to see them put Jesus first, God has opened the door full circle to be on staff full time with Young Life. He wasn’t kidding when He said, “This is where you’re meant to be!”

The Antelope Valley is in northern Los Angeles County, California, and is home to a diversity of more than 475,000 people. Over the last 40 years, the landscape of the AV has undergone a substantial transformation due to exponential growth and development, which includes 13 high schools between the larger two cities known as Palmdale and Lancaster. Young Life in the AV is on mission to rebuild its ministry and have a significant impact on as many of the 23,000 high school students as possible. With no current Young Life presence on any of the school campuses, it is our deep desire to build relationships with these students and share the good news of Jesus through faith-filled fun and launch this ministry into all that God has created it to be.
