Personal checks may be made out to Young Life, with “WA32 — Alyssa Hinz” on the memo line, and sent to: Young Life — C/O Alyssa Hinz 1031 4th St. NE Auburn, WA 98002 Young Life is a charter member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) and has maintained that membership through a yearly review of its compliance with the ECFA’s standards.

Young Life was incorporated in 1941 by Jim Rayburn, a seminary student and part-time youth minister in Gainesville, Texas, who wanted to reach out to kids disinterested in church. Rayburn went where kids were and found creative ways to share the love of God with them. His methods continue to transform lives today. Alyssa Hinz

ALYSSA HINZ

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11, NIV

AREA OVERVIEW

ALYSSA’S STORY Do you remember “The Claw'' machine from the arcade? I hope so. It picks up the stuffed animal you aim for and brings it all the way to its next adventure, your life. This is how I viewed God growing up. He was an all-powerful figure picking me up and taking me wherever I was going next. Then I went to a camp when I was 12 and learned something new: this same God sent Himself in human form as Jesus. The truth infected my heart that this God wanted a relationship with me through Jesus and that I was invited to it! I said "YES" to this relationship and learned to LOVE Jesus — I wanted to be more like Him! I carried this into high school and grew toward Jesus through the community of people He blessed me with. I learned that I could feel hope even when things felt sad, disappointing and hard when I brought them to Jesus. Skip to college, and I found myself losing that fire that lit my every step before. I found myself feeling lost and far from that hope over time. God saw me there, sat with me, then asked me to “get up.” I had a choice to stay there or to have courage to trust that it would be better if I took His hand. So with all the courage I had, I “got up” under the promise that God would lead me to hope again. Since this, the invitations the Lord has asked me to walk in with Him have become bigger, scarier and BETTER. In saying yes, I find fullness that I couldn’t have imagined before. Hope doesn’t come and go with the circumstances of my life because I have Him in my heart, I say yes when He invites me into the next thing, and I say "no" to everything else. I’m so grateful that God is more than “The Claw” from the arcade. He wanted my heart, has it now, and I get to move forward WITH Him knowing that He wants ALL of the hearts, so here I go. Under the direction of God, the help of the Spirit, and the story of Jesus, I get to share this source of hope that changed my life with kids in this place where my roots are the deepest.

The story started with some of the committee in Enumclaw who had businesses down here in Auburn. They saw a need for Young Life in Auburn and had a significant surplus in their area. After praying about it, they chose to use the money to start Auburn Young Life, which was founded in 1986. The first ministry was at Auburn High School with the first ministry event being a volleyball game at a leader’s house! A couple of years later, it branched into Rainier Middle School where WyldLife (Young Life's middle school ministry) was formed in the area. Soon there were ministry teams across middle and high schools in Auburn that have continued into the early 2000s. All this to say, Young Life in Auburn has a rich 35-year history and an exciting future ahead! Auburn Young Life serves a diverse population of kids in Auburn and Lake Tapps. Both communities are growing at a rapid rate, and there are nearly 18,500 students enrolled in the Auburn and Dieringer school districts. We currently have ministries at four middle schools (Rainier, Cascade, Mount Baker and North Tapps) and three high schools (Auburn, Auburn Mountainview and Auburn Riverside), and will be launching Young Life College this year. We are partnering with South King County Capernaum to work with kids who have developmental disabilities as we try to make the gospel accessible to EVERY kid! • 46 Volunteer Leaders • 400 Kids Known by Name
