The Customer Involvement team recently worked with Excelsior Academy to help students get work experience by helping our tenants get online and learn how to use the internet. The Customer Involvement team trained a group of enthusiastic students on how to deliver training on using the internet. Then the team set up sessions with customers who said that they would like support in learning how to use the internet. The students helped deliver training on how to: • • • • •
search for information save money stay in touch with family & friends use email stay safe on the internet
The students adapted well to challenging situations and helped train tenants whose first language is not English. These sessions were delivered with the support of an interpreter.
The students also delivered a session at Hadrian House for sheltered accommodation customers. These customers thoroughly enjoyed the session in learning how to find information and save money online. They were keen to know when the students could return again! Feedback from the school tells us that the project has been both beneficial for our customers and the students: “Thank you for the opportunity you have given our students, they thoroughly enjoyed the digital project and they gained new skills, in particular their communication and social skills with the older generation as well as to those where English wasn’t their first language” Excelsior College CEIAG & WEX Coordinator
