How to get the best from... Solar Thermal Try these helpful tips in your home to reduce the amount of energy you use and save on your bills.

A solar water heating system uses panels fitted to your roof to heat water for use around the home. A typical solar thermal system can provide up to 50 to 70% of your annual hot water.

1

Make sure that as much of your hot water as possible is taken from the solar supply, rather than heated electrically in an appliance to maximise the savings.

2

Use more of your hot water in the evening, as this will allow the solar time to heat it up, for showering or washing the dishes.

3

Make sure you use your heating controls to adjust your heating running times in accordance with your needs throughout the year.

If you have an electric shower it won’t use your solar hot water. In this situation, use the bath for washing and bathing as this uses the hot water generated by your system. Ensure that your hot-water storage cylinder and pipes are adequately insulated to minimise any heat loss.
