A chance meeting at a local pub and an intuitive close friend were responsible for bringing Natalie and George together... It began as a typical night out - Natalie and her close friend had just purchased their drinks and were looking for a place to sit. George offered them a seat at the table where he sat with his best mate, they chatted and then left to continue on with their night. “Although we weren’t out for the purpose of meeting guys,” says Natalie, “I had mentioned to my friend how handsome George was as we left.” Her friend picked up on that spark between them and unbeknown to Natalie, secretly passed on her number to George. A few weeks later – they were on their first date! George’s marriage proposal came as a lovely surprise to Natalie a couple of years later, as they were holidaying in their favourite place, Belongil Beach in Byron Bay. To her amazement, he suggested they go for an early morning walk to catch the sunrise at the cape Byron lighthouse. “George LOVES his sleep ins!” she says (hence her amazement at his suggestion!) Once there, he sat her down on the stairs of the lighthouse, claiming that he wanted to take a picture - but instead of producing the camera as he knelt down, he produced a little box, spoke some special words and asked Natalie to marry him.

“It was a beautiful moment”, she remembers. “Sunrises are one of my favourite things to experience, 23rd April is also Saint George’s Day in the Greek Orthodox faith, and we absolutely adore Byron Bay – so it was a very sentimental proposal.”

Seeing George standing at the end of the aisle still brings a tear to my eye

Planning for their wedding was an exciting time for both of them. “In the excitement of the big day, it’s so easy to get caught up in so many ideas and opinions, so I’m not sure I remember anything that didn’t receive attention!” She admits. But what was important to both of them, was that the details of their wedding were authentic to them and their relationship. She says, “George and I didn’t disagree on anything.” She did most of the planning and research, and then they would talk it over before locking things in. “Most was planned doing online research and using local wedding guides and recommendations through word of mouth.” She found that the best social media pages, with the most followers and the most posts didn’t always produce the best customer service. In the end, she says that a lot of their big decisions were made with those that had been in the industry for a very long time and who were recommended to her by word of mouth. “Once you know what you want and if you don’t stray too far from your original plan and ideas, it all comes together without too much stress, and you can enjoy the planning. I loved it!” She says.

Natalie and George did the usual pre-wedding celebrations - a hens night weekend away with the girls in Sydney for Natalie, and a bucks all-day event held locally for George, with his closest family and friends. When their big day finally arrived they were blessed with the most perfect February day. “Melissa, our photographer, predicted a perfect sunset and literally dragged us away from our reception to capture the moment,” she laughs. “She didn’t have to beg, but I could see the tears in her eyes if we said no!” Their wedding celebrated both cultures. Natalie’s Australian background and George’s Greek heritage. “Seeing George standing at the end of the aisle still brings a tear to my eye when I think of it. He looked so handsome (he always does! He is a very handsome man) and had a great big smile on his face, and I just couldn’t wait to get to the end!”she remembers. While they would have both loved to have been married at the top of Belongil Beach at Byron Bay – in reality, they would not have changed anything about their day. “The most important decision around our location was that it had to be accessible for all our family and friends, and that the wedding ceremony was to be held in a Greek Orthodox Church, and particularly for George, the parish in which he grew up in.”

Natalie says her Mum walking her down the aisle was an incredibly special moment that she will always cherish. “Our Greek Orthodox marriage service was steeped in ritual and symbolism, reflecting the theology of the Church,” she says. “It was a truly beautiful ceremony.” After the ceremony, they made their way to the reception held at Old Parliament House in Canberra. Natalie says she couldn’t fault the experience at their reception venue. “Every part of the process with the venue was smooth and stress free, and it was an absolute pleasure dealing with them.” Many of their guests were local, but they also had guests who travelled from Perth, Melbourne, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, North Coast, Wagga Wagga and Sydney. All enjoyed the wedding, the lovely Greek Orthodox service, the delicious and generous food and beverages, the speeches, and the Greek dancing! “Our reception was amazing and it was truly humbling to have all the people we love in the one place at www.WeddingGuide.com.au

the one time” she says. The Greek dancing with George’s family, and the music, were definitely a highlight for everyone – and she loved seeing her friends and family joining in. “It was so joyful!” At the end of a fantastic day, Natalie and George spent their wedding night at East Hotel in Kingston, Canberra – close to their favourite breakfast spot in Manuka. “It was kinda cool to head over there the next morning for breakfast and they asked how our weekend had been and we said, ‘well, yesterday we got married’ – that was loads of fun!” They then spent two amazing, relaxing weeks at East on Byron at Belongil Beach. “Byron was the obvious choice when we decided on a honeymoon location” she says, “as we have so many magical memories there.” They enjoyed hiring bicycles to get around for a bit of fun and adventure, plus the amazing beaches, cafes, restaurants, live music, farmers markets and weekend markets, kept them busy and entertained.

24

18/12/19 9:23 pm

“A couple of our friends had surprised us with a wedding gift to spend the day at Buddha Gardens Day Spa, and we were totally pampered with a spa and massage experience that included a full body scrub, massage, a private plunge pool, sauna, champagne and platter of fruit – it was absolutely delightful and definitely a highlight!” Natalie’s best wedding advice:

Take the time to enjoy the engagement with your new fiancé and family and friends! It’s such an exciting and special time! Ensure you enjoy the experience of planning, try not to over think things and have fun with it! Before you start going wild on all things wedding related, have an idea of what you want first… and importantly agree on numbers. Aside from a date, one of your first decisions will be choosing a location/venue – you want to ensure you can fit all your guests and also have the place that you want! Stay true to your desires when it comes to discussing your ideas with suppliers. This will alleviate setting yourself up for disappointment. Don’t dismiss attempting to negotiate. What you might be able to save negotiating may allow you across the line with something that seems out of reach. You are paying your vendors to provide a service and it is not unreasonable to expect their service meets the price you are paying. You’re not paying for a friendship but it certainly makes the experience easy and stress free if you can connect with them, they are passionate and engaged, and you trust that they are listening to what you want. Invest in an experienced and passionate photographer. They will be capturing your memories for a lifetime! You will know when you meet them; trust your instinct!

It was nine years ago that Amy and Jason first met each other through Facebook. In the years that followed, their relationship thrived and they soon had a family of their own. Then one day, on a trip together to Sydney in 2017, Jason surprised Amy. They were at Newport Beach, where Amy had grown up, when Jason unexpectedly proposed to her at sunrise. “It was so special and I was completely surprised” she recalls. They had 18 months to plan their wedding, which Amy says, was the perfect amount of time. Both also agreed that a photographer, videographer and great entertainment were essential elements for their wedding day. “It was really important we find amazing people that we were comfortable with and made our day fun” she says. Great entertainment was vital at their reception, as they wanted to create a fun and enjoyable atmosphere for their guests, because as she explains, “we both have families that love to drink, dance and enjoy themselves!” Photography and videography were a must as well, as “we wanted to make sure we had beautiful images to treasure once the day was over.”

Another important element they wanted to include was the Fijian Culture. Jason had moved to Australia from Fiji at four years of age, but his culture was still an important part of their family. Jason’s aunty and uncle travelled to Fiji to get all of the items that would allow them to incorporate the Fijian traditions into their ceremony. Jason, his best man and their son were dressed in their traditional Fijian Masi Kuvui wedding garments for the ceremony, and they also had traditional Fijian mats laid down the aisle of the church and at the alter, for Amy and Jason to be married on. “It was very special for us to have a part of Jason’s culture on the day” says Amy. Guests travelled from Fiji, England, Holland, and all over Australia to celebrate their wedding. “The most memorable part was having all of our favourite people together to celebrate our day” she says, “we had family travel from all over the world to attend our day – and it meant the world to us.” It was a beautiful, warm sunny day that greeted their 250 guests, and after a lovely ceremony at All Saints Church, in Ainslie, they moved to the Southern Cross Club in Woden for a night of celebration. “Everyone told us they had an amazing time and enjoyed every minute of the day.” Amy says the staff at Southern Cross Club in Woden were amazing too, and were always there to help with any questions.

“We were able to have a full tasting of our wedding menu beforehand to help us choose the best options for our guests”, and she says the facilities were amazing, and they and their guests were looked after all night. While there were no surprises on the day, Amy says “it’s great to hear the guest’s stories after the day, that you don’t even know happen!” At the end of the night, Amy and Jason stayed at the Burbury Hotel “And it was fantastic!” she adds. Their honeymoon plans are taking a back seat for now, as they are planning and looking forward to the arrival of their new baby, due in March 2020!

“Wild and free” were words used to describe Alex and Nathan’s wedding day. Filled with so much love, laughter and joy, it was a day which truly complemented who they were as a couple. “One of the big wow factors for us was the ceremony and room styling” says Alex. “Nathan and I worked very hard for pretty much the entire time we were engaged, making DIY elements to add to our styling.” During their 13 months of planning, they collected hundreds of candle and lolly jars from op shops, while Alex handmade the bouquets, boutonnieres and guest flowers using origami, which she says in itself took almost a year! They repurposed an old mirror collected from a garage sale to make their wedding sign, made two donut walls and collected heaps of artificial greenery, lanterns, fairy lights and much more. Asked what was the most memorable aspect of their wedding, Alex replies, “We would have to say the most memorable aspect was the actual wedding itself in it’s entirety – it was a truly magical day. The weather, the guests, the vibe, the music, the venue, the food, the atmosphere, the room styling, the outfits, and all the little extras we had added to make it our own, truly brought it all together into one perfect celebration of love and family.” This couple with a shared penchant for long boarding, first met each other in 2014, in their favourite place to unwind from the day – the gym.

It was on Christmas morning of 2017 that Nathan proposed. “Our marriage proposal really was a beautiful moment” Alex remembers. Alex and Nathan and his two daughters, Yolanda and Selena, were sitting around the Christmas tree opening presents. “Nathan handed me a small box and I jokingly asked if it was an engagement ring” Alex recalls. “There was a ring in there, but it was not THE ring, which we all had a laugh about.” Then Yolanda told them she had found another present at the back of the tree. Alex says, “ Immediately I asked if it was mine, cause I love presents. Yolanda giggled, then handed the present to Selena who then handed it to Nathan. I thought it must have been for him and then the girls came and sat next to me with huge smiles on their faces, and I was like, well, whose is it? At that moment, Nathan got down on one knee, opened up the box to show this beautiful shiny ring and then the three of them asked me to marry them and Nathan.” Alex replied with a very enthusiastic YES, and made a joke about how they were all stuck with her, and there were hugs and many happy tears all around. “We didn’t go too crazy on the pre-wedding celebrations” says Alex, “we had a small dinner to celebrate our engagement. Nathan had a bucks weekend away in Kiama, while I stayed in Canberra and had a hens party and night out with my girls.” When asked where their dream wedding location would have been, Alex tells us she had always pictured herself getting married in a forest in Autumn, with the leaves of a big old tree falling around them. Nathan on the other hand had always imagined a beach wedding. “Nathan won the ceremony spot, but I brought the forest to our reception, so we both won on the day” she laughs.

www.WeddingGuide.com.au

38963 Alexandra+Nathan-RLW_final.indd 34

Southern Style Events helped Alex bring her forest to the reception with a forest and rose gold themed head table, a green wall with twinkle lights, plus they styled the marquee roof with ivory, greenery, lanterns and fairy lights. They also helped to create the perfect look for their beach ceremony. The element of professional styling, and their DIY touches were perfect.

34

18/12/19 2:46 pm

Our day was incredible and truly special

“Getting married surrounded by all of that just made it so special to us” says Alex. Their guests travelled from all around Australia to attend their wedding, and were treated to blue skies and superb weather on the day. The night before had been raining, so Alex was surprised to wake up to the most perfect day. “Our day was incredible and truly special, but like any event, it did have it’s unplanned challenges” she says. “Our youngest woke up the morning of the wedding with a stomach bug, which I ended up getting at about 10pm that night.” As well, Alex’s maid of honour’s dress broke, Alex’s hair lost it’s curl before she left the house due to the heat, their celebrants car broke down delaying the ceremony by nearly 40 minutes, and Alex lost her garter belt. She says, “The reason I didn’t get too phased by these things was because at the end of the day, those things didn’t actually matter and I had no control over them. The day was about Nathan and I, and a few details not going 100% as planned wasn’t going to change or effect it. We still got married and it was beautiful. Also, I had fantastic bridesmaids!” Alex’s bridesmaids were her rocks and they were amazing at putting out all the small fires that came about on the day, so she barely had to worry. For Nathan it was so special to have his daughters actively involved and so supportive of them. Having Yolanda as a bridesmaid was also special to Alex, who happily accepts that marrying Nathan is a package deal that comes with his two beautiful daughters included.

After their ceremony, they continued their celebrations at the Sebel Harbourside in Kiama NSW. “The staff there were so wonderful to us and all our guests, and our event coordinator really did go above and beyond for us throughout the entire journey” says Alex. The involvement of their close friends and family also helped make the day so meaningful – between helping with decorations, driving their youngest to the doctor, doing Alex’s hair, driving her to the ceremony, MCing their reception and standing up there with them as they took their vows - she says, “I felt truly blessed to have such wonderful friends and family.” “We didn’t always see eye to eye in how we saw the day coming together, but the vision we created for our day really brought us together in the end, and allowed us to add a ‘Nathan and Alex’ touch to our special day.” www.WeddingGuide.com.au

38963 Alexandra+Nathan-RLW_final.indd 36

One of the favourite things about their lives together is their love of long boarding, so pictures of them playing on their long boards was a must! Nathan’s love of skateboarding followed through to his original wedding band, which was made of repurposed skate boards. Alex wore a beautiful strapless ivory gown, with a tight fitted bodice with a lace overlay, a thin diamante belt, and a huge, flowing statement skirt. Purchased from Annabel’s Bridal Studio, Alex says they were so amazing with their service and support, and recommends them to any bride who wants a fantastic gown. “Their before and after care service for my dress was just so good” she says. “They cleaned it, repaired it and then boxed it for a very reasonable price!” The Sebel Harbourside in Kiama NSW was the perfect venue for their reception.

36

18/12/19 2:46 pm

“We knew as soon as we stepped foot in the venue that it was where we would be getting married” she says, “the building was beautiful and the marquee was a blank canvas that we got to make our own.” At the end of an eventful day, Alex and Nathan spent their first night there as well, before heading off on their honeymoon. “I surprised Nathan with a surprise honeymoon to Fiji” says Alex. “We spent 10 days island hopping, celebrating, snorkelling in amazing water and of course drinking lots of cocktails.” She says she wanted a good mix of resorts and adventure, so they stayed at 3 resorts – the relaxing Marriott, the intimate Beqa Lagoon resort (which was one of the best islands for shark diving), and then Mantaray Island. “This was my favourite of all the places we visited” recalls Alex, “crystal blue green waters, a beautiful reef, very friendly staff, and absolutely amazing snorkelling.” She says it was the perfect way to end their honeymoon.

Alex’s best wedding advice:

Three things...

It’s not you versus him, it’s us versus the problem. Just chill and enjoy yourself. Once it gets to the wedding day, there is nothing more you can do but relax and enjoy what the day truly means. If things go wrong, just smile and push forward - as long as you are both there, that’s all that matters. The day goes in a flash, so make sure you take time for you and your husband to take it all in – even if it’s just a few moments.

“The whole wedding journey really was an amazing experience, but it was not without it’s trials. In the end it was totally worth it for us and if we could do it all again, we 100% would. If you can plan a wedding together, then you can get through anything. Finally, have a project ready and waiting for once you have finished the wedding and honeymoon and you return back to reality. Post wedding blues really is a thing and settling back to reality can be a bit of a shock to the system after so much planning and so much hype.”

TEGAN + ROWAN

Childhood sweethearts Tegan and Rowan met when they were just 16 and 18, back then, formalities existed around making the relationship official, and after a few dates Rowan shyly asked “Will you go out with me”. They dated steadily through school, bought a home together and 8 years later, in September 2017 found out they were expecting their first child. It was during their pregnancy that the couple holidayed at Barlings Beach, Tomakin – a sentimental spot they had frequented early in their relationship. “We went out for Pizza and afterwards Rowan insisted on a walk along the beach” Tegan said “It was the middle of May, overcast, cold, and I was 33 weeks pregnant. When Rowan finally agreed that we had walked far enough we turned around and that is when he dropped to one knee, in the wet sand, and popped the question.” She says “It wasn’t the most romantic of dates or proposals but it was very “Us”, the beach has been a meaningful place throughout our courtship and Rowan was a keen fisherman. With only 7 weeks left before we met our little man we were eager to unite our little family”.

“We wanted to tie the knot within a year, and a winter wedding in Canberra was not on the cards for us. We also really wanted to get married close to the beach and obviously Canberra wasn’t able to provide us with any options. We both loved Wollongong, location-wise it was only a stone’s throw from Canberra, and it is so picturesque and has a really good vibe. We knew our guests would love a weekend in Wollongong!” Tegan and Rowan planned their destination wedding to take place on a Sunday of the June long weekend to allow plenty of time to travel and unwind in Wollongong before the big day, they benefitted from a better rate being on a Sunday and their guests all enjoyed the Monday to recover before heading back to Canberra. “When we found City Beach we both knew immediately it was the venue for us. They could arrange the ceremony on the beach (and provide a wet weather back-up), right outside the venue and our room offered floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the beach and Wollongong lighthouse, plus we had our own private terrace so our guests could really enjoy that fresh sea-air.” “The venue had a bar and restaurant right next door, so our guests didn’t have to leave the area. Some wandered down the “Blue-mile” (A major hotspot for Wollongong Tourists) while we got some photos taken but most relaxed at the restaurant next door.” “I loved having a destination wedding, we now have another sentimental getaway location.”

Although Tegan worried it would be challenging to plan a wedding interstate, her wedding venue, City Beach Function Centre were able to offer package inclusions which made life a lot easier and made packing lighter! Being the first of their family and friends to get married in Wollongong, Tegan and Rowan knew that their wedding would be unique, especially having the beach aspect feature throughout their day. Tegan used Instagram and Pinterest to inspire her rustic Burgundy theme for the big day; “I had Pinterest boards of similar florals and styling ideas that I loved and was able to work with City Beach’s partner florist to realise my dream.” “We booked all local vendors, so they were familiar with the area and most had worked with the venue previously. Our photographer Lucy, from Translucent was amazing and whisked us off to all these really funky locations for photos. She had some really unique ideas and was so experimental, one of our favourite images from the shoot was taken at Wollongong Botanic Gardens in front of some cacti with smoke bombs! They added a really funky contrast to the photo. But beware, they can stain your hands and clothes, so make sure your photographer is familiar with handling them. Lucy, our photographer really made us feel at ease and we had so much time with our bridal party, just being silly and having a laugh. “

Many brides don’t sleep the night before their nuptials due to nerves but unfortunately Tegan didn’t get much shut-eye due to a completely different reason. “Our little boy Kayden was unwell the night before the wedding and I spend most of the night before the wedding tending to him. As a mum I’m used to sleepless nights and to be honest it did distract me from any pre-wedding jitters as I was more concerned with Kayden.” However, the next morning the excitement of the day took over. “The reception was so “Us”, we loved all the personalisation we added for ourselves and guests; from our ring box, welcome signs, laser cut wooden name plaques as bomboniere, menus and glassware for the bridal party. Everyone had a good giggle at our cake topper “Hooked for life” a tribute to Rowans avid interest in fishing, and hooking the catch of his life! I loved our first dance and having everyone come up on the dance floor and join us. The dance floor was going-off all night, we had so much fun at the reception, I think we had everyone up dancing the Nutbush & Macarena.” The photo booth was a hit with everyone, and Tegan and Rowan had a giggle when the venue provided all the images on a USB.

Any advice for future brides or brides planning a destination wedding?

Don’t overthink it, everything happens for a reason and if something doesn’t quite go to plan no one will know but you! Enjoy every moment. Destination weddings are fun, Wollongong is a great location. Our wedding was affordable and easy. Destination weddings also seem to have more inclusions with their packages, making the planning a lot easier.

“One of my favourite moments was when we snuck out of the reception to take some night shots on the beach, they looked and felt so romantic. This was the only downtime we shared exclusively with each other all day and we found it really special to just breathe for a moment and take it all in.”

PRUE + ANDY

18/12/19 2:49 pm

Prue and Andy’s love story began two and a half years ago when, on a blind date set up by her brother-in-law, Prue met Andy for coffee – then ended up staying for two hours! Andy’s proposal two years later didn’t go quite as he’d planned, but that didn’t stop Prue from saying Yes! He had originally planned to propose at the Tallong Lookout, as he grew up in the area, but Prue had other plans for the day. Shopping in Canberra was one of them, and Andy was dragged into going too. “On the way home from Canberra, we stopped in at Mum and Dad’s property to check the horses in the back paddock” says Prue. A new foal had been born the night before, so she was trying to get in for a closer look. Then, when she turned around, there was Andy on one knee, with a ring in his hands. “I was totally surprised” she says. They never did make it to Tallong Lookout, but it didn’t matter – plans were now set in motion for their upcoming wedding. They were engaged in October 2018 and married in March 2019, with most of their planning done in three months. While many would be pressed for time working within a tight timeframe such as this, Prue says she wouldn’t have changed a thing. Andy didn’t feel the pressure either...while she and her bridesmaids went to hair and makeup appointments and trials, she laughs and says, “Andy prepared himself by making his weekly trip to Bunnings in his HQ one tonner, for a sausage sandwich.”

In all seriousness though, Prue says “There really wasn’t anything that we disagreed on. We trusted each other’s taste and most of the decisions were made by a process of elimination. I think the day turned out so much better because we were both involved in the planning and the decision making.” When their special day on 16th March 2019 arrived – it rained! So much so, that Prue did an emergency dash to Kmart to buy umbrellas! But as luck would have it...the rain cleared, and they were able to enjoy a beautiful afternoon at their ceremony which was held at Prue’s parents property, “Brewon” in Tirrannaville. “Andy was very keen to have live music for the ceremony and we were so lucky to find Ghost Gum” she says. “Kyle and Jamie tailored their playlist completely to meet our needs, including learning ‘Dear Prudence’ and ‘Blackbird’ just for us.”

In fact, their sixty guests enjoyed the combination of music and canapes in the garden so much, that it was not an easy task to get them to board the bus, supplied to take everyone to the reception at The Old Coach Stables Restaurant, in Gunning. Once there, they were treated to more music, from The Corby’s, which included lots of classics to get everyone up and dancing. “Melinda, from The Stables, was fantastic and couldn’t do enough for us, including making Andy his favourite meal of Bangers & Mash.” Prue says it also made a big difference being able to decorate the room the day before the wedding, because it meant that they could do it themselves. Having Prue’s brother, Hamish, as their MC at their reception was a great choice.

He had everyone in stitches with his eight minute speech about the couple, that rhymed all the way through! “We gave him an inch and he took a mile” she laughs. Prue says there is nothing that they would change about their day. They wanted to make sure their wedding really reflected their families and their interests, and this was achieved on the day. “I’m the fourth generation in my family to show horses and Andy loves his cars. It wouldn’t have been a family wedding without having our homebred stallion, Cranellie Jonte, in some of the photos, or without Andy’s beloved Holden HQ Monaro.” They also used two of Prue’s parents cars, one of which was the car her parents used when they married in 1978, plus Andy’s dad and Prue’s mum were invited to be ring bearers for the ceremony. Pre-wedding, Prue had joked with Andy about her wedding dress. He has expecting her to make an entrance in a huge fluffy dress...so when she did arrive, he wasn’t sure it was her!

“He would have been happy with the dress that I had him imagining” she laughs, “but my actual dress was so much better!” After a recovery day, they then travelled to Noosa Crest Resort, at Noosa on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, for their honeymoon. “The views and the weather were fantastic, and the private buggy tour we booked at Australia Zoo was a real highlight” she adds. Prue’s best wedding advice:

Be open minded – Not having a fixed idea means that you don’t waste time trying to find things that only exist in your head.

Find a great celebrant – Jan helped guide us to create a ceremony that was perfect for us and was so calming and reassuring on the day.

Peta and Blake both grew up in Yass and had been aware of each other from afar, but it wasn’t until five years ago that they started to get to know each other...and their relationship blossomed. A romantic proposal followed, with Blake organising to have the words, “will you marry me?” written in chocolate on Peta’s dessert, as they dined together at Sir George in Jugiong. With “Marry Me” by Jason Derulo playing in the background, Blake proposed to Peta – and she said Yes! With a year set aside to plan their wedding, Peta says it was enough time to create their rustic, country themed wedding. The venue they chose was perfect. “Kylie and Jimmy, the owners at Bushfield are totally amazing at what they do” says Peta, “you can blink and they’ve fixed any issue they see arising.” She says Bushfield Farm was incredible and their pricing was the best value for money. Peta and Blake had exclusive access to the property from Thursday to Sunday, so there was no rush, and they didn’t have to limit their reception to six hours which is often the case at other venues. To fit in with their rustic, country theme, they organised Spit Roast catering, which included a buffet of Spit Roasted Beef, Chicken and Pork with an array of salads and vegetables.

Peta wishes she could have made the day last forever

Their guests, eighty in total, travelled from as far as South Australia, Deniliquin, Sydney, Nyngan and Broulee – and they loved it, saying it was the most laid back and relaxed wedding they had ever attended. It was a cold and windy day, but at least it wasn’t raining, she recalls. Just seeing all their guests from near and far, being with them to celebrate their love was very special to Peta and Blake. “Some guests we hadn’t seen in a long time, so it was so good to catch up” she says. The only thing Peta and Blake disagreed on were the flowers, with Blake suggesting they just go and pick some out of the garden, she laughs.

Peta wishes she could have made the day last forever...”Once the vows were done, I was so relaxed and could wind down and really enjoy it – but then, it just went so quickly.” At the end of a wonderful night of celebration, Peta and Blake spent their first married night at Abode Murrumbateman. Peta’s best wedding advice

Try not to stress the morning of – it goes too quickly and you’ll wish you could go back and relive it for weeks after. Don’t stress over the guests and rsvp’s and all that, at the end of the day it’s about you and your partner, and that’s all that matters.

Why is this one of your favourite cake designs? I created this “Love is Love” cake for two close friends of mine, Brett and Will, who finally got married on 19th October 2019. They chose the flavours then gave me full creative license. It has so many different textures and elements and fitted in perfectly with the rustic theme - it has a natural stone look and I also included a hession effect into the blue layer. I was happy with the end product and I think it came out even better than the sketch! Flavours: 1 Native Citrus, Chia seed and Raspberry 2 Caramelised White Chocolate, Strawberry Prosecco 3 After Dinner Mint – Chocolate and Peppermint 4 Gluten Free Hazelnut, Wattleseed, Choc Espresso

Using the “f” Logo The primary use of the “f” Logo is to promote your organization’s presence on Facebook. For example, when you say, “Find us on Facebook” and link to your Facebook Page, it’s appropriate to use the “f” Logo. The “f” Logo may also be used side-by-side with other social media logos.

Maintaining Shape and Proportions To ensure accurate and consistent use, never alter, rotate, embellish or attempt to recreate the “f” Logo. Never alter the proportions and shape of the “f” Logo for any reason. To resize, hold the “Shift” key in most software programs to maintain the proportions while scaling up or down. Always maintain the minimum clear space, even when proportionally scaling the logo.

Size Be sure the “f” Logo is reproduced in a legible size and that they do not appear subordinate to any other partner logos included on the creative executions. Similarly, do not present the “f” Logo in a way that makes it the most distinctive or prominent feature of what you’re creating.

Logo

Color Do not modify the logos in any way, such as changing the design or color. The correct color versions to use are the blue or reversed-out to white. If you are unable to use the correct color due to technical limitations, you may revert to black and white.

What are my favourite wedding florals? My own wedding bouquet and my husband’s floral pocket square from our wedding last year. Why are they my favourite? I incorporated all the flowers that I love in my bouquet. It was deliberately, quite small and extremely light as every element I used had the stem removed and then I replaced it with wire. There was lots of detail and a lot of work creating it. For my husband’s floral pocket square I used tiny matching elements, most the size of my baby finger nail or smaller. I wanted to create something personal, unique and special for us. What flowers were used? Most of the flowers we grew in our own garden (we are both keen gardeners) and a few things were locally grown elsewhere.

WEDDING STYLING & HIRE When it comes to wedding styling, we often put weddings into categories such as rustic, bohemian, vintage to name a few. In reality though, every wedding is unique and these categories are not meant to be rigid, but more a framework to work with and take from it what appeals to you. Professional wedding stylists can decorate your ceremony right through to your reception in a way that reflects who you are as a couple. They can help you narrow down your wedding ‘look’ and supply you with beautiful decor to suit your style.

healthandbeauty uniqueextras Have you heard the expression, “Never work with children or animals?”…don’t believe it! Kellee and Lee from Guest of Honour Pet Chaperones will put all of your worries at ease. They love offering their service which brings so much happiness to their clients, their friends and family. “We both just love, Love - and everything about it, so we’re in our element watching two people start their married lives together and celebrating it with their furry friend.” We caught up with Kellee and Lee, and here’s what they had to say…

WHY NOT INCLUDE YOUR PET

ON YOUR WEDDING DAY What do you love about your job? The looks on their faces when they see their beloved pet is something that will stay with us always. It is such a lovely time. The other part of our job that we truly love is seeing how much people adore their pets. That part resounds with us very deeply as Lee and I are animal lovers and pet owners, so we understand 100% how strong that love is and how important the trust and reliability of Guest of Honour Pet Chaperones is when our clients hand their pets over to us. They are handing over something that is extremely important to them, so in turn they are instantly extremely important to us and we don’t take this lightly. Often our clients start to explain to us ‘we’d like them there, they are family to us.’ I can stop you right there because we get it 100000000% Do you tend to pets other than dogs? We certainly do. We have had inquiries for anything from cats to horses, snakes and even ferrets. We will chaperone them all.

So what do animals in your care get up to when their Mum and Dad are busy getting married? Our role starts early, we turn up while Mum and Dad are getting ready. That’s when the fun begins, we always go for a walk and if time permits we’ll have a play and lots of pats in the backyard. This is also when the treats begin (which we provide, could be chicken or whatever our client recommends is their favourite) and we commence working with them to gain their focus, this is then used predominantly during the photo session where we assist the photographer to get those gorgeous images. We give them a rub over with the grooming glove and make sure there are no hangers on in their fur or sleep in those beautiful eyes. Just being treated like the VIP that they certainly are. All of this is supporting their trust and familiarity with us, which is very important when transporting and chaperoning. Then they are safely placed in the car with our safe and sound harnesses and the windows down (wind in our hair/fur) to arrive for ceremonies and/or photo shoots. We are with them 100%, they are never left unattended. Any funny or surprising stories you would like to share with us? Yes there are a few but the one we will tell you about is the day we went to pick up gorgeous boy Leo the Kelpie for his mum and dads wedding. When we got to his house, this usually beautiful black dog was a lovely shade of ‘dust and dirt’ LOL, as he had spent the morning rolling around in a dust hole that he had made for himself in the backyard. I’m sure he was having the time of his life before we got there. Lee and I took one look at Leo and just shook our heads and laughed and reached for the

www.WeddingGuide.com.au

38953 Q+A Guest of Honour.indd 1

grooming gloves. By the end Leo looked shiny and handsome, although Lee and I were worse for wear, we then had to spend the next 10 minutes dusting ourselves down. Lucky we always arrive early to have a walk and a play before the function or in this case a grooming session x 3. Do you travel? We often get asked if we will travel. Yes we will. We cover Canberra and surrounds, the South Coast, Braidwood, Bungendore, Goulburn, Snowy Mountains, Tumut, Gundagai, Wagga. We already have bookings in 2020 in Tuross, Gerringong, Batemans Bay and more for chaperoning. Just ask us, we love a road trip. Lee and Kellee are both dog trainers, with Lee also having a background in dog behaviours. They have WWVP cards, police checks and public liability insurance. They also use safety barriers in their vehicle and safe and sound car harnesses. Plus, they offer tips and support to clients to use signs, props, bowties, flower crowns etc.

traditions&customs

TRADITIONS & CUSTOMS

Traditions, customs, conventions and superstitions, whether you realise it or not, are probably a part of your wedding.

The eternal bond

This never-ending circle, complete union without end, is symbolised today by wedding rings.

Carried over the threshold

A romantic custom nowadays, but it is believed to have come from the time when tribal man hit his chosen wife over the head and carried her away so her kin couldn’t find them!

Throwing rice

Or confetti, bubbles, rose petals or pot pouri. Rice throwing originated in Asia and was considered a symbol of fertility.

Something old, something new…

The tradition of wearing ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’ is still recognised by many brides today; often in the form of a garter or ribbon (something blue), jewellery (something old), gown (something new) or handkerchief (something borrowed).

The luck of the chimney sweep

Originating in England, it was considered good luck to invite an authentic chimney sweep to your wedding to ensure the marriage was a happy and prosperous one.

honeymoon&accommodation

HONEYMOON & ACCOMMODATION

A honeymoon has traditionally been the time when newly married couples relax and recuperate after their wedding. Often taken in exotic or romantic locations it allows the newly married couple to enjoy an intimate holiday together before returning to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Some couples with busy schedules or budget constraints may choose to just have a ‘mini moon’ which is a short trip taken to a destination relatively nearby, leaving the honeymoon to a later date when they have the time and budget. Whether a honeymoon or mini moon, reservations should be made as soon as you start planning your wedding, particularly if the destination will be experiencing it’s peak season at the time of your getaway. Before you embark on your honeymoon, it’s a good idea to choose somewhere special to stay on your wedding night; preferably close to your reception as you may not feel like travelling too far. While that gorgeous little cottage in the woods may seem like the ideal ‘ first night’ spot; after a two- hour drive, you will probably just want to go to sleep! Flowers, chocolates, champagne and a spa bath can make your first night together as a married couple extra special, and many accommodation venues provide these as part of their special honeymoon packages.
