From chopping down a gum tree to create centrepieces and place card holders; making personalised stencils to hand etch each individual glass, to designing and making all of the bouquets, buttonholes, invitations and guest book – we think it’s pretty safe to say, Belinda and Marty’s wedding was a true labour of love. Born in Wagga Wagga, Belinda was raised in the RAAF base at Amberley, and Marty – a Brisbane born boy, grew up in small country towns just outside of Ipswich. Their story together dates back ten years, when as friends at high school, they would often catch up with each other on special occasions. However, it wasn’t until Marty’s 22nd birthday, that they went on their first “date”. Then, one New Years Eve on a beach in Penang, against a backdrop of fireworks, Marty popped the question! In true romantic style, he chose the day which marked their 4 year anniversary of when they first said “I love you” to each other. Belinda may have been unaware of Marty’s plans to propose at the time, but her father, Michael, certainly wasn’t! As an accomplice, he had helped Marty plan for this special moment. So with a date set, and two years to plan their wedding, they got busy – excited to work together on their ideas.

Being a teacher, Belinda knew how to organise and plan with precision. During their planning, she often wanted to do even more, but Marty was very good at reminding her of what was truly important for their big day. “We are Yin and Yang,” she says, “we are both willing to listen and compromise, and this always results in a productive and suitable solution to most situations.” In the lead up to their wedding, they both took a little bit of time out. Belinda, to enjoy a Hens day, and for Marty - a celebratory week! As Belinda says, “It is hard being a man and planning a wedding you know...” Belinda spent her Hens day with her nearest and dearest, including her maid of honour - her sister, Ellyza, who made many trips from Melbourne to Brisbane to ensure a memorable day for Belinda. Together they all enjoyed making flower crowns and drinking pink cocktails in a Valley bar. Marty meanwhile enjoyed a week at Fraser Island with his best mate, spent two days camping at Landcruiser Park, and finished the week off by heading to the city with his groomsmen for a surprise boys weekend. When their wedding day finally arrived, the weather was perfect. Belinda and her bridesmaids got ready for the day, and Marty enjoyed a morning game of golf with the boys, including his dad, Chris and Belinda’s dad, Michael. www.WeddingGuide.com.au

the most special gift he could have ever given us as a couple
Their guests arrived from Western Australia, Adelaide, Canberra, Mount Isa, Melbourne, Alpha, Jericho, the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, to a country style wedding where they could feel at home and enjoy the celebration. “Sally and Mikayla at The Vue – Boonah Valley were amazing! I could not say enough about how organised, polite and flexible they were” says Belinda. “The guests LOVED it. The meals were huge and the drinks were flowing,” she says. A highlight was when best man Doug and wife Karlia, said to them that their kids were having so much fun they hadn’t seen them all night!

A particularly meaningful element was a very special gift from Belinda’s beloved pop, Poppy Sprigg, who sadly passed away 8 months before their wedding – His wedding band of 50 years was left to Marty. “That will always be the most special gift he could have ever given us as a couple,” she says. It was an emotional day, with Belinda crying once she got into her wedding dress. She was also surprised seeing Marty so emotional and says “Even his family said they had never seen him that emotional before.” “But the best part was...” she says, “at the end of the formalities, the bridal party danced to the “Git Up” song by Blanco Brown.” When Marty and Belinda’s dad, Michael started dancing together, the dance floor cleared to make way for new father-in-law and new son-in-law to www.WeddingGuide.com.au

groove centre stage - Not bad for a dad that normally doesn’t dance... At the end of the night, Belinda and Marty, their bridal party and family, stayed the night at The Vue’s beautiful and convenient 14 villa motel. The happy couple plan to travel to Singapore, Thailand and back to where they got engaged in Malaysia, for their honeymoon at the end of the year. Says Belinda, “I am so lucky to have married the man of my dreams. We have been officially together for 6 years now and I understand how people say, every year is better than the last! Marty makes me whole and he is my home. Nothing else in the world matters. The fact we planned this together made us so much more stronger as a couple and made our day so much more personal. “Don’t be afraid to DIY, chip away, make lists, and take lots of deep breaths,” she recommends.

Belinda’s best wedding advice:
Let the emotions roll. I felt so guilty for crying once I got my dress on. Honestly, I have never been so nervous in my life. Not because I was about to marry the man of my dreams, but to walk out in front of all those people. As soon as I saw Marty, I was home. Let the emotions take you anywhere on the day. Be organised and delegate to your bridesmaids – that’s why they are there; because you trust them.

“My best friend, and maid of honour, Chelsea, reminded me that when we were 18 and talked about getting married one day, my dream was a lavender farm” says Keisha. And guess what...she got her dream! Keisha and Isaac originally met at Downlands College in Toowoomba as boarding students, 13 years ago. Keisha was a year 10 student and Isaac in year 12 when they became friends. Years later, in 2013, they decided to catch up for breakfast. Isaac had been living in Brisbane for some time, and Keisha had just moved there. “We met at a deli in New Farm” she says, “and we’ve been together ever since really.” Isaac’s proposal to Keisha came out of the blue. “We were at Isaac’s family property and had just finished mustering for the day” Keisha remembers. Dirty and exhausted, they enjoyed an early evening drink with Isaac’s family. It was on the May long weekend and it was rare for nearly all of his siblings to be together. “Isaac took me around to the side of the house to star gaze together” she says, adding how spectacular it is out there.

“While we were standing there together, Isaac was behind me and got down on one knee and whispered my name.” When Keisha turned, he proposed, and she was so surprised that she said “are you serious?” a number of times before saying YES! “It was fun going back around to tell his family and our friend who had come with us because they had no clue and were equally surprised” she says. It was quite special for his family that he chose home to propose. Leaving plenty of time to plan their wedding, they avoided a lot of stress. “It saved us having any issue with booking places we wanted or people that we wanted for the day because it was so in advance.” Their budget, right from the very start was important. “We agreed we didn’t want to get a loan or go into any debt, or need to rely on assistance from anyone else in order to get married” she says. By planning so early it gave them time to ensure they made choices that were within their budget. They sat down, worked out what they could both save each week, how much they would have by the wedding date, and that was their budget for both the wedding and the honeymoon. Keisha says they went to approximately five expos and from those found their celebrant, wedding dress and photographer. Their cake lady was found on facebook, their DJ and photobooth from online, and apart from the venue that they already knew about, they did everything else themselves with the help of family and friends.

the most special gift he could have ever given us as a couple
Following on from the proposal, Keisha and Isaac enjoyed an engagement party in Central Queensland where Isaac’s family is from, as many of them were unable to travel to Brisbane. Keisha’s maid of honour and bridesmaid planned a hens night which included drinks, games, dinner and a paint and sip class, while Isaac’s bucks celebration started off with go-carts and a brewery crawl in Brisbane, before heading to the Breakfast Creek hotel for dinner. When their much awaited day arrived, their 64 guests attended from Darwin, Sydney, Nowra, Barcaldine, Capella, Ingham, Emerald, the Gold Coast and Brisbane. Everyone enjoyed themselves! The weather was perfect, with clear skies and a slight breeze. Keisha says there was a smoke haze in the area for a little while due to large bush fires in the surrounding areas, but her dream wedding location at Kooroomba Lavender Farm was beautiful. “I can’t imagine having been married anywhere else” she says. “We had been to Kooroomba Lavender Farm previously, and we fell in love with it when we went back and saw the Chapel.” Keisha didn’t need to invest a lot of effort on reception styling as the lavender farm venue is stunning in itself. She added some flowers for the tables, and the venue had a few extra touches, so it was perfect.

“The Chapel is just a one of a kind venue and the area is just beautiful” she says. “Isaac grew up in the country and I’m from a remote area so we both consider ourselves to be country kids opposed to city, so it really suited our personalities.” Says Keisha, “We all loved the food, the music and the photobooth! We also received a lot of compliments about our ceremony – our celebrant was fantastic and delivered a beautiful, sweet and short ceremony for us.” They decided they wanted to write their own vows which resulted in a truly sincere and special moment between them. She says, “I still cry each time I watch them over.” Keisha and Isaac organised to have a grazing table, the bar was open, and there were lawn games to keep guests entertained while they had their photos taken. “We did all our photos at the venue too, which made it easy for us as well” she says. “Nick, our photographer was fantastic and it can’t be easy dealing with that many people and trying to keep them all smiling.” When asked if anything surprised them at their wedding, Keisha said she was surprised how quickly it goes. She says everyone tells you, but you don’t really understand it until you’re living it. She says, “It is great that we got our ceremony filmed because that was such a blur once it was over – the nerves and the excitement really take over and all of a sudden, it’s all finished. Geoff did a beautiful job at filming it too.” That night Keisha and Isaac stayed at a beautiful local Airbnb called Sandstone

Retreat, then they flew to Thailand for a three week honeymoon. In that time they visited Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Khao Lak. Their favourite was definitely Chiang Mai. “We absolutely loved it there” she says, “and we were much more immersed in the culture of Thailand. We did white water rafting, visited an elephant sanctuary, did a cooking class, went to some temples and visited the markets.” They loved the elephants at Happy Elephant Sanctuary, where you feed, play and bathe them. Mama Noi’s cooking class was also a lot of fun. “We did the full day course and highly recommend it – you learn seven dishes” she says, and you also receive a recipe book to take home.

Keisha’s best wedding advice:
You can definitely get married without it costing you a fortune if you take the time to plan and don’t rush it. Sit down at the start and decide what’s important and what isn’t. We got married on a Thursday and it saved us a lot of money. So there are all different ways that you can save without feeling like you aren’t going to have your dream wedding. I thought our wedding was truly breathtaking and we spent less than half of what a lot of people do. Definitely do your research and don’t feel pressured to settle with the first vendor you meet – pick the person that suits you and your budget the most. Also, believe people when they tell you that come the day of your wedding, a lot of things truly won’t matter.
“We really truly did love our wedding day” says Keisha, “and maybe we are a bit biased, but it felt pretty special. We’re really excited about our future together and our wedding day felt like the right way to kick off the chapter that is married life. To be able to now sit and plan the future together without a huge debt over our heads is a really big deal too. We have no regrets. We are also incredibly thankful that each and every one of our vendors literally crushed it.” Wedding Date: 12 September 2019 • Photographer: Nick Murray • Videographer: Geoff Schatzel - Motion Art • Gown: Angelic Bridal • Rings: Michael Hill Jewellers • Accessories: Ruby & Sage • Hair: Asta’s Boutique • Makeup: Kymmy MUA • Bridesmaid Dresses: Shona Joy • Groom’s Suit: Ferrari Formal Wear • Groomsmen’s Suits: Ferrari Formal Wear • Ceremony: Kooroomba Lavender Farm • Wedding Coordinator: Sam and Ruby from Kooroomba • Celebrant: Jo Hurley, Love Story Ceremonies • Reception: Kooroomba Lavender Farm • Number Of Guests: 64 • Theme: Rustic • Menu: Kooroomba’s Mid-Week Menu • Entertainment: DJ Rhino - Ryan Hancock • Flowers/Florist: Brisbane Flower Market • Cake/Made By: Cakes by Rachael (Rachael Laing) • Donuts/Cake Pops: Homeward (Charlotte Glab) • Unique Extras: Photo booth courtesy of DJ Rhino | Isaac’s mum made her famous fruit cake • Transport: White Chapel Kalbar & Ken Lynch’s stunning red convertible. • Wedding Song/Dance: First Dance - “In Case You Didn’t Know” by Brett Young | Down the Aisle - “Made for You” by Jake Owen.

It’s funny how sometimes the person you get to spend your life with has been there all along, right under your nose, so close - yet somehow, your paths don’t cross... that’s the scenario experienced by Sharyce and Joseph. “We had so many mutual friends during high school, but we never actually met each other until after we both finished school, says Sharyce, who remarkably knew Joseph’s older sister at high school. It wasn’t until they started seeing each other when Sharyce was 16 years old and Joseph 17, that the connection became evident. Both Sharyce and Joseph’s family moved to Brisbane from Sydney and Auckland respectively, when they were both very young, Sharyce was 5 and Joseph was 9. Coming from large families, it was important to both of them to have their family and close friends there to celebrate with them when they eventually tied the knot. Sharyce recalls their “private, memorable and perfect” proposal. “We were staying at the Gold Coast for the weekend and went for a night walk along the beach,” she remembers, “Joseph stopped, got down on one knee and popped the question.” That was in July of 2011, approximately 4 years after they met. Their wedding was a long time in coming, but Sharyce says that when it happened, it was without a doubt, the highlight of her life. Describing herself as “not a very over the top kind of girl”, she kept things nice and simple. Their invitations were ordered online from Vista print in a beautiful greenery theme and their centrepieces consisted of a floral arrangement with candles in a gold glitter votive.

“Most of my planning was done online, through searching on wedding websites for recommendations, local facebook bridal pages and word of mouth from friends and family.” Asked if they had enough time to plan their wedding, Sharyce replied that they probably had about a year to plan but would have preferred longer, just to take away some of the stress. They finally wed on the 13th October 2018 at their dream wedding location of Bundaleer Rainforest Gardens, and with so many special moments to remember, it’s hard for them to choose a favourite when prompted... Sharyce proudly recalls how their eldest daughter, Jasmina, aged 9, recited a beautiful poem at their wedding ceremony.

“I was so proud of her for speaking in front of so many people on the day, that was a really special moment.”
“But what I absolutely loved,” recalls Sharyce, “is that on the day he memorised his vows word for word and didn’t break eye contact with me the whole time.” He surprised her to the extent that when it was her turn, she had to partly read off their Celebrant’s paperwork.
Another of Sharyce’s favourite moments was during the reception when she did her Samoan Siva, “embracing Joseph’s culture has been so much fun,” she says, “There was so much love and excitement...that moment was truly so memorable.”
Many of their guests weren’t able to hear their vows due to the rain that bucketed down at that crucial moment, but Sharyce and Joseph didn’t even realise how loud the rain was, caught up as they were in such a special moment between each other.
And when it came to their vows, Joseph absolutely nailed it. They eventually agreed to both write their own vows,

While most guests were from Brisbane, others travelled from Mackay, Melbourne and New Zealand to share their day. Family and friends alike experienced a warm and welcoming atmosphere. “Friends loved experiencing the cultural side of things as we had family perform a couple of Samoan dances which are always so lovely to watch.” With family foremost in this couples lives, their two beautiful daughters, Jasmina,9 and Alayhna, 6, walked down the aisle as their flower girls. It was a very special and proud moment for them as parents. “Although we had miserable weather on the day, to be honest, it didn’t even bother us,” recalls Sharyce, “It was still our day and we loved every minute. I mean our whole bridal party had to get a little wet for photos, worth every moment, as our photos and video turned out incredible.” At the end of an amazing wedding at Bundaleer Rainforest Gardens where everything ran so smoothly, Sharyce and Joseph spent their wedding night at Novotel Brisbane. “If anything, married life has brought us even closer as a couple and we are so blessed to have each other. I am forever grateful to our bridal party and our families for always being so supportive, we truly are blessed with the best,” says Sharyce. www.WeddingGuide.com.au

Exciting news: By the time this magazine is published, they will have welcomed their third beautiful daughter into their growing family! Sharyce’s best wedding advice:
Pinterest will be your best friend for wedding planning, so much great content. Try and organise vendors in advance and finalise finer details with them early if you can. At the end of the day, this is your special day – you marry your special person – so soak up every moment and don’t sweat the small stuff. A bit random, but think about what fragrance you will both wear on the day as this will be a special scent that will always remind you about your wedding day.

KATARINA + ANDREW

Meeting each other six years ago through a mutual friend, Katarina and Andrew both share a love of travel. It was on a trip together, while overseas in Croatia, that Andrew planned to surprise her... Earlier in Austria, he had acted like they weren’t ready to be engaged, so when he popped the question at Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia, Katarina was genuinely surprised. After walking for about four hours at the National Park, Andrew suggested they go and have a picnic lunch he had packed. “Lets go and have the picnic on the row boat” he says to Katarina, who is hot and tired from the trek. “I was slightly reluctant at first” she says, “but I thought, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and the water was so beautiful and crystal clear. He rowed out on the lake so were alone” she continues, “and after eating, he popped the question!” Katarina would have loved to have had their wedding in Croatia as well, as that is her family’s background, but unfortunately her grandmother wasn’t well, so they decided to have it locally instead.

“Tamborine Gardens was so beautiful and I wouldn’t have had it anywhere else here in Australia” she says. Katarina admits that she and Andrew are quite opposite to each other, and says “We disagreed on a fair bit – and yes, tears were shed, voices were raised, whinging happened – but we made compromises and it was fine.” Looking back she can laugh and appreciate that he wanted to help plan and have a say in what the day would look like. “After all” she says, “it was our wedding day, not just my wedding day.” She says the year they had to plan their wedding was perfect, adding that any longer, and it may have become dreary, too overwhelming or perhaps even start to get tedious.

30/11/19 9:02 am
There wasn’t a chance of things getting tedious for Katarina though, as two nights out from the wedding, her parents had a dinner for the bridesmaids and other women from the family. “We were frantically getting wedding favours organised, but everyone getting together made it so easy and it was done so quickly. We had good food, good music and we were on a roll!” she says. They encountered a gorgeous day, warm with sunny blue skies on the day of their wedding. “I had no expectations on the day...totally had to surrender to what was going to be” says Katarina. “The main thing is that I was just totally present with Andrew. It was the best day!” 110 guests from Brisbane, Wollongong and Melbourne joined the celebrations and were amazed with the venue. Their wedding was simple yet elegant, and it was true to them. Andrew, Katarina and their photographer got some fantastic mountain-view shots and Katarina recalls how lovely it was to have that special time with Andrew to embrace it all. Asked what details they paid the most attention to, Katarina replies, “The most attention was to the schedule of the day, so it could run as smooth as possible. We even did up a photo schedule for the photographer, so it was easy on him and he could call out who we wanted photos with – especially after the ceremony.” She says that everyone wants photos with you and it can be so overwhelming, so the photographer was on the ball the entire day, taking a massive load off our shoulders.

“The least attention would be the seating chart. I gave my side of the family to my mum, and she did an awesome job and it was done so quickly.” Sadly, Katarina’s godmother couldn’t attend the wedding. “She wrote a letter that one of my bridesmaids read out during speeches, and I was balling! She was meant to have been my matron of honour.” Both of their grandfathers were remembered on the day also, with a lovely sign surrounded by candles. “I am sure they were watching from above, but it was so sad not having them there” says Katarina. After an amazing, 100% stress free day, thanks to the wedding co-ordinators at Tamborine Gardens Wedding Resort, Katarina and Andrew spent their first night in the cottages behind the venue. “We walked 80m and were at the door to our cottage!”

They then enjoyed a fantastic honeymoon overseas! “We went for a month trip to Europe, travelling to London, Paris, Spain and Amsterdam – stayed in apartments and homes through Airbnb – it was great!” Katarina’s best wedding advice:
Totally enjoy the ride of planning. I really understand that it can get overwhelming but you have to remember, it is a once in a lifetime event. Ask for help, delegate tasks, keep things simple and focus on what is most important. At the end of the day, as long as my husband was waiting for me at the alter, beaming with love and pride, that is all that mattered. A wedding day is just a party to celebrate a very special commitment that you are making in front of your family and friends...it does not define what your journey together will be after the big day. It still takes 110% work and commitment.
“When I look back,” say Katarina, “I wish I didn’t care so much about the little things with planning. I know it’s hard not to because you want so much to be perfect, but detach about what others will think and just do what YOU two want! It’s your day!”

When you know, you just know... Seana and Belinda met each other through mutual friends, and have only known each other for two years but, says Seana, “It was one of those moments where you know she’s the one.” Previously, they had both trialled online dating without success, so when her close friends suggested a blind date, Seana was open to the idea and agreed to meet up with Belinda. “From there, my life has been nothing but amazing since,” she says. 25th December 2018 was a defining day for their relationship. “We were both at my parents’ place for Christmas Day, doing the usual family tradition,” says Seana. “As I was sitting outside, with everyone in my family at arm’s length, Belinda handed me a gift bag with a little book inside. I opened the book and began to read all the beautiful things that Belinda loved about me. It was so thoughtful, I loved it!” Then, when she turned to the last page of the book, it read – “Seana, will you marry me?” “I looked up and Belinda was on one knee and proposed there and then in front of all my loved ones. It was perfect!” From that moment, everything they planned over the next 9 months was focused on their special day. They decided to forego having a pre-wedding celebration, preferring to save the expense and invest in their actual wedding day.

Together they chose the fantastic beachfront location of Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park SLSC for their wedding ceremony and reception. They also booked an apartment just across the road to get ready, alleviating the need for wedding transport. During the nine months of planning, the only thing where their opinions differed was whether to have bowties or ties for Seana and the groomsmen. When their special day finally arrived, they woke to a glorious spring day. “The weather was PERFECT!” says Seana, “We couldn’t have asked for a better day. Not a cloud in the sky...” Their guests travelled from as far as Perth and Tasmania to celebrate with them.

“Considering it was a same sex wedding, a lot of our guests found our wedding that little bit extra special,” she says. “They loved it and thought it was beautiful.” Asked if they would change anything about the day, they reply, “We would not change a thing. However, we do wish that the day wouldn’t have gone so fast.” “The most memorable moment of our wedding was when the ceremony had finished and we both turned to the signing table,” recalls Seana. “Both our fathers have passed away and we had a picture of them both on our table. We wanted our fathers to be there on our special day and it was a very emotional moment for us both, seeing their photos faced toward the guests.”

What was the most surprising moment? “We were both really surprised that we nailed our wedding vows!” Seana answers. After a beautiful and overwhelming day, Belinda and Seana spent their wedding night at an apartment on the Esplanade in Burleigh. Over the Christmas break this year, they are looking forward to enjoying a honeymoon on a P&O cruise to the Pacific Islands. Seana’s best wedding advice:
“Start planning early and slowly pay things off so you don’t stress yourselves out too much.”

NATHAN + CASEY

A chance encounter or fate? Casey and Nathan believe the latter was responsible for bringing them together. Both born and raised on the Tweed Coast in New South Wales, the happy couple looked forward to their trip together to Japan in August of 2016. Unbeknown to Casey, Nathan had been busy, secretly shopping with his sister for the perfect ring to offer her when he proposed. “The day we went to DisneySea in Tokyo was the day he decided was the perfect time, and he knew it would hold not only a magical memory, but also a sentimental one,” explains Casey. “Nathan knew the importance of Disneyland for me as it was the last truly happy memory I had with my dad before his diagnosis of MND started to become severe.” She didn’t have any idea of Nathan’s plans though, and says, “he even asked me the morning of, “Is this your happy place?”, which is a massive hint but it went straight over my head.” Casey remembers that it was a hot Summer in Tokyo and that the park was packed. At dusk, they found a quiet spot by the Realto bridge in the Venice themed area, but then Nathan asked Casey to go shopping for five minutes as he had something to do. They planned to meet each other back at the foot of the bridge. When she returned, she didn’t even realise that he had changed into a button-up shirt, and when he asked her to come in for some photos, she thought it a bit odd as he wasn’t normally too fond of photos.

“As the attendant was taking photos,” she says, “I notice Nathan let go of me on our third photo in and I turned around and low and behold, he was on one knee! I was so shocked it took me a moment before it all sank in and I finally said YES! I kept him anxiously waiting for so long that he said, “Casey, this is real, this is happening!” There was a group of girls nearby and they were clapping and squealing. It was a true fairytale proposal, pun intended.” With two years until their wedding date, Casey was able to thoroughly enjoy the planning process. It took her a year to find her dream wedding dress, as she wanted a beautiful dress that made her feel like a bride. She says she must have attended around fifty expos, and then spent the majority of her nights researching through magazines and social media. Photography and their venue were a priority. “We wanted a venue that did a lot of the work for us and required little style to make it beautiful.” They decided on Summergrove Estate for their dream wedding location. “I paid the least attention to the flowers and the guest favours as these were not that important to us,” says Casey, “we wanted to put on a great celebration for our guests so we preferred to spend the money on a photo booth, music, lawn games, and drinks to ensure everyone had the best night,” The only area that they had a slight disagreement on was whether to have a Videographer. Apart from that, their values aligned with what they wanted from their day. www.WeddingGuide.com.au

One area that Casey didn’t have to organise was her Hens party, which turned out to be the most magical Hens day out on Marina Mirage. Casey’s maid of honour and sister in law organised a catamaran through Sailing in Paradise. “They had an esky of drinks all sorted and a giant food platter, the music was blasting and the sun was shining,” she remembers. They then whisked her to a house for some games, more platters and entertainment, then they headed out for some dancing.
we wanted to put on a great celebration
“They truly went above and beyond and I am so thankful to those involved who organised it so well and kept it all a surprise for me, which is what I wanted.” Nathan meanwhile had two celebrations. A fishing trip away a few months prior and then a low key bucks party a week before the wedding. When their special day finally arrived the weather was perfect, sunny but not too hot. A grand entrance by Nathan, arriving by helicopter was without a doubt one of the most memorable moments. Nathan’s brother had organised it as a surprise wedding gift to him. “The boys had a ball of a time and could not believe what was happening,” says Casey, “the photo looked like it came straight out of a James Bond film.” Their romantic garden party themed wedding included only their nearest and dearest – sixty guests in total, who travelled from Dubai, Victoria, New South Wales and Port Douglas.

With her bridesmaids dressed in royal blue dresses with blue cornflowers in their bouquets, the groomsmen with cornflowers in their buttonholes, and their celebrant dressed in cornflower blue, Casey knows that her father was looking down on her that day. The blue cornflower is represented as a sign of hope for both a cure and a cause for Motor Neurone Disease. Casey also had a charm organised which was attached to her bouquet with a picture of her dad. “It felt like he was walking me down the aisle in a way!” she says. Casey remembers how the day absolutely flew by. She remembers another of her favourite moments also when Nathan saw her for the first time...”he was close to tears”. She says the first thing he said as they held hands was, “you look incredible!” Their whole reception was full of laughter and clapping. “My brother in law acted as our MC on the night, and got one of the groomsmen to do a shooey,

and my sister in law surprised us by saying Nathan and I had to perform a spontaneous danceoff which was hilarious.” “I have never seen a more fun and engaged group of people genuinely having fun,” she recalls. Guests were full of compliments saying “it was the best wedding they have ever attended”, “it was one of the best nights of their life”, “an awesome night making new friends and having a ball”, and “a beautifully styled and thought out day that suited us as a couple.” Casey has nothing but compliments for Ellie and Maddie, the coordinators at Summergrove Estate also. She says she didn’t have to organise anything on the day. “There was nothing too big of an ask for them.” No one wanted to leave at the end of the night. Casey recalls how “the whole day just filled us with so much love and we are so glad everyone got to enjoy themselves so much.”
54
30/11/19 12:17 pm
They spent their wedding night in the beautiful villas at Summergrove Estate, before heading off on their epic honeymoon through Mexico and the USA over six weeks. “We flew business class with Virgin Australia which I cannot recommend highly enough,” she says, “it started our trip on the biggest high.” They spent ten days at an all-inclusive adults only resort in Playa Del Carmen with a few days down in Tulum. Mexico truly captured their hearts, she says, “we went on adventures and went cenote hopping. It was fabulous.” They then flew up to San Francisco, spent a few days there, then picked up a convertible Mustang and drove around Yosemite, Big Sur, Las Vegas and then down to Anaheim to spend a few days in Hollywood and at Disneyland. Casey’s best wedding advice:
Don’t rush the wedding. Allow sufficient time to plan so you can really enjoy the whole process. Also, don’t let any drama affect your big day. The weeks leading up are busy enough – it is best to just go with the flow.

Zepporah and Jacques 1920s Gatsby themed wedding was as moving as it was glitzy. By the end of the night, there was not a dry eye in the room... It all started online, back in 2016, when Brisbane born, Zepporah, met Jacques who came to Australia in 2001, from South Africa. One weekend, on a trip to Melbourne to celebrate Zepporah’s birthday, Jacques seized the occasion and made it extra special! Says Zepporah, “I wanted a weekend away for my birthday, so I booked us a trip to Melbourne and a room in the Rendezvous. It was a little room, just a bed and bathroom and a little Juliet balcony. I knew he was going to take me somewhere nice for dinner for my birthday, so I thought, I am going to get all done up, and I had my hair and make-up done because hey, what girl really needs an excuse!” Jacques made use of this time to do a little sprucing up of a different kind, and when he returned he told her that there was something wrong with the room, so the manager said they would organise another room. “I didn’t think too much of it, so we got dressed for dinner, packed our things and went down for drinks” says Zepporah, who also noticed Jacques give the manager a little wink and wave as they headed out. An impressive dinner at The Press Club followed, consisting of a 5 course Degustation and wine tour which she says was simply amazing. And being a Celiac, they assured her she would have her very own Chef for her meal. “Well, we got all the way through the meal,” recalls Zepporah, “and Jacques then came around from the booth we were in and got down on one knee and pulled out the most amazing ring I have ever seen.

For the life of me I can’t remember exactly what he said but I know somewhere he said, ‘Marry me’!” The surprise for Zepporah didn’t end there though... when they made their way back to the new room at the hotel, Jacques already knew the way. “We went straight to an absolutely magnificent room – it was huge with rose petals on the bed, swan towels and champagne and strawberries and chocolates, with a note from the manager saying congratulations and to enjoy the new room with compliments of Rendezvous,” she recalls, “so on my birthday on the 6th of April 2018, we were engaged.” With a little over a year to plan their wedding, Zepporah said she had plenty of time. In keeping with the 1920s Gatsby theme, she had a bit of a hard time finding bridesmaid dresses, other than cheap costumes, but was fortunate to be walking past Review one day and there it was, the Mombasa dress – a perfect fit for her theme. Her own wedding dress, a Madison James gown from Ferrari Formalwear & Bridal, was almost recreated with her addition of lace and beading to the back, and Swarovski crystals and diamonds to the front. In tribute to her dad whom she dearly missed, Zepporah also had a blue heart stitched to her wedding dress with the words, “love you dad”. She continued the 1920s theme through her accessories, with a gorgeous 3 strand pearl bracelet with attached ring, plus an heirloom watch ring belonging to her paternal grandmother.

The groom and groomsmen had to look the part too, with stylish linen suits which were popular during the era. Zepporah also made all of the centrepieces and chair backs to match the era as best she could. “...but mostly,” she says, “I just wanted our guests to enjoy the day as well, as it is truly a celebration!” And enjoy they did – all 45 guests including Jacques parents from South Africa, his cousin from New Zealand and Perth, close friends from work, and Zepporah’s family including her two sons, and a few of their close friends. Jacques surprised Zepporah with a diamond tennis bracelet – delivered by his cousin while she was getting prepared, and Zepporah also surprised Jacques with a letter and a hip flask, engraved with the words “Grow old with me, the best is yet to be”. With a black rose amongst her beautiful silk flowers, plus a photo of her dad in her bouquet, Zepporah and Jacques got married. Says Zepporah, “The most unique thing to me is our vows. Being the second time around and having gone through some real struggles in life on your own, I think

these are what truly define you and your promise to each other. Love has so many different meanings and only you know what it means to you and putting it into words for all to hear is not easy, but it means so much.” Their ceremony and reception were both held at Glengariff, and in Zepporah’s words, “it was absolutely amazing.” “When we went for the viewing Jacques saw the sign above the door in the “man cave” that said “Jacks Place”, so that sold him. But in all honesty, the timeless feel of the place – that just fitted with our theme (plus the glitter on the floor!)” “Channing and Bryce at Glengariff were amazing at making the day run so very smoothly,” she says, adding that the food was so delicious and there was plenty of it. Being a Celiac, they made sure that she was able to eat almost everything. Their wedding cake was also totally glutenfree and consisted of a top tier macadamia mud cake, a middle tier of red velvet mud cake and a bottom tier of white chocolate and raspberry mud cake. Their only regret is that the left overs only lasted a week... The most special memory of the day was a speech made by Zepporah’s youngest son (which made her cry), and which then lead into a slow dance with her eldest son (which made her cry even more). And then she sang to Jacques, a song called “Like I’m Gonna Lose You”, by Jasmine Thompson. The guests all said that when it came to the speech made by her youngest son, www.WeddingGuide.com.au

and the dance with her eldest son, there were some tears – but when she sang to Jacques, there was not a dry eye in the room. “Everyone thought it was lovely and so very special and romantic,” she says. For their first dance, Zepporah changed into a Review dress – the “Unchained Melody” dress – with a little extra bling added of course. They had a dance choreographed and in 5 lessons, they had it!
The best is yet to be
“I would really recommend it to any couple because the closeness and together time learning and practicing is really special, especially with all the craziness leading up to the wedding day,” she advises. We ask - Is there anything you would change about the day? She replies, “I would not have it as an unplugged ceremony, or I would have had a videographer. As we could not afford a videographer, I really regret not letting people video the ceremony.” With plans for a 2020 honeymoon, Zepporah says that where ever it is, she plans on taking their vows and reading them to each other again. “The best is yet to be!” she says. Zepporah’s best wedding advice:
Breath! The day goes so fast, try and take some time out just to sit with your husband and relax – but trust me, someone will barge in!

YOUR CEREMONY, YOUR CHOICE Your ceremony is the most important part of your wedding day. It’s the moment where you will both express your love and commitment to each other; where your partnership is made legal in the eyes of the law and in the company of your family and friends. Your vows are considered to be some of the most important words that you will ever say to each other, so where you choose to say these words needs to be carefully considered. Whether a church, chapel, beach, garden or elsewhere, choose a setting that reflects your style and has an ambience that feels special to you both.

Garden Weddings
The beauty of a natural environment appeals to many couples. The choice to have a garden wedding offers a less formal environment for many couples looking for the peace and tranquility of a garden. If you choose a public park, you will need to advise the local council in advance to avoid conflicting venue arrangements and arrange for any permits which may be necessary. When choosing a garden some things to check for are: access to parking for guests, noise issues such as passing traffic, power availability, rest room distance, shelter availability. It’s advisable to inspect the grounds so that you can ensure it’s suitable for your needs.
Church Weddings
Most couples that get married in a church do so for religious reasons. At least one partner, but usually both are expected to follow the beliefs of the church. Most church leaders advise pre-marital counselling sessions and some will require you to complete a questionnaire. The main thing is to ensure you feel happy and comfortable with your church leader. They will have an important role in your wedding, so being able to communicate with them well is vital. A traditional church ceremony may be more structured than a civil ceremony, but there will usually be some options available to personalise your ceremony.

Beach Weddings
For many couples, marrying on the beach is a natural choice as it reflects an important part of their lives together. A beach wedding, like all weddings is bound by restrictions and considerations. As well as the points relating to garden weddings, couples choosing to marry on the beach should consult their local council for permission. The tides, sand, wind and sun are all factors that you will have to take into consideration when planning a beach wedding. Nick Murray Photographer
Winery Weddings.
Many Wineries offer on-site facilities for an exclusive wedding ceremony, with the vineyard as a backdrop or a water feature as just some of the options available. They can provide privacy and create a sense of seclusion for guests to totally relax and enjoy fine wine, food and service. If you’ve dreamt of exchanging your vows in the countryside, a farmhouse wedding may be suitable, or for something a little different again; a yacht or cruise wedding.
Studio SW19
Chapel Weddings
Chapel weddings are very popular as many cater for both religious and civil wedding ceremonies. Historical wedding chapels provide a timeless and elegant backdrop for the ceremony and over the last number of years Queensland has seen the careful renovation and restoration of several churches into wedding Chapels. As with church weddings, chapels eliminate the stress associated with outdoor weddings as weather and parking are no longer an issue to worry about.
The Chapel was well loved by families in it’s former home at the Gold Coast Hospital, Southport and the Rotary Club of Broadwater Southport are proud to have saved it from demolition and given it a new lease of life. The Club has made the Chapel available for hire, providing a unique venue to celebrate Weddings and other life ceremonies.
www.WeddingGuide.com.au
38905 p.86 - Ceremony Ed.indd 1
Many chapels also provide couples with the option of hosting cocktail drinks after the wedding ceremony. Cocktail drinks can provide an excellent interlude before the wedding reception where the couple can take their photos while ensuring their guests are looked after and enjoying themselves.

WEDDING STYLING & HIRE When it comes to wedding styling, we often put weddings into categories such as rustic, bohemian, vintage to name a few. In reality though, every wedding is unique and these categories are not meant to be rigid, but more a framework to work with and take from it what appeals to you. Professional wedding stylists can decorate your ceremony right through to your reception in a way that reflects who you are as a couple. They can help you narrow down your wedding ‘look’ and supply you with beautiful decor to suit your style.

traditions&customs
TRADITIONS & CUSTOMS Traditions, customs, conventions and superstitions, whether you realise it or not, are probably a part of your wedding.
The eternal bond
This never-ending circle, complete union without end, is symbolised today by wedding rings.
Carried over the threshold
A romantic custom nowadays, but it is believed to have come from the time when tribal man hit his chosen wife over the head and carried her away so her kin couldn’t find them!
Throwing rice
Or confetti, bubbles, rose petals or pot pouri. Rice throwing originated in Asia and was considered a symbol of fertility.
Something old, something new…
The tradition of wearing ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’ is still recognised by many brides today; often in the form of a garter or ribbon (something blue), jewellery (something old), gown (something new) or handkerchief (something borrowed).
The luck of the chimney sweep
Originating in England, it was considered good luck to invite an authentic chimney sweep to your wedding to ensure the marriage was a happy and prosperous one.

BOMBONIERE
It is a nice idea to leave your guests something sweet to take home as a token of appreciation for their attendance and gifts. ‘Bomboniere’ is an Italian word meaning ‘sweet favour’ (French Bonbonniere), and in Australia the word has come to represent the small gift the married couple gives to each reception guest. Traditionally a bag of five sugared almonds to signify health, wealth, happiness, long life and fertility, bomboniere now takes many forms.

Nick Murray Photographer
TRANSPORT Transport can be as simple as decorating the best cars you, your friends and family have to offer, or as unique and charming as a horse drawn carriage, fleet of vintage cars, BMW convertibles, Chrysler 300C’s or a stretch limousine. But it doesn’t end there; buses, motorbikes and even helicopters have been used to create an awe inspiring entrance.
Arrangements to and from the wedding ceremony usually only differ in that afterwards the bride and groom will travel together. Organising wedding transport is usually a task that the groom, best man or groomsmen organise. With a number of different styles of vehicles available, you should have no trouble choosing one that reflects your overall wedding theme, however book as early as possible as they are popular and you don’t want to be disappointed.

CATERING There’s one thing guests always remember about a wedding - the food! Caterers are very versatile and can work just about anywhere you want them to. They can offer a buffet or smorgasbord style presentation to full silver service. Their service usually includes the preparation and serving of food, the provision of cutlery and crockery and the cleaning up afterwards, yay!

It can often prove difficult to meet all the needs of your guests nowadays with the prevalence of food allergies and intolerances; gluten-free, lactose-free, meat-free, dairy-free, are just some of the common requests which need to be respected. So it’s more important than ever to choose a caterer you are confident with, allowing you and your guests to relax and enjoy the party!
It’s through sharing food that we create lifelong friendships, and because of this, In Season Catering understands the importance of this element to your special event.

honeymoon&accommodation A honeymoon has traditionally been the time when newly married couples relax and recuperate after their wedding. Often taken in exotic or romantic locations it allows the newly married couple to enjoy an intimate holiday together before returning to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Some couples with busy schedules or budget constraints may choose to just have a ‘mini moon’ which is a short trip taken to a destination relatively nearby, leaving the honeymoon to a later date when they have the time and budget. Whether a honeymoon or mini moon, reservations should be made as soon as you start planning your wedding, particularly if the destination will be experiencing it’s peak season at the time of your getaway.
HONEYMOON & ACCOMMODATION
Before you embark on your honeymoon, it’s a good idea to choose somewhere special to stay on your wedding night; preferably close to your reception as you may not feel like travelling too far. While that gorgeous little cottage in the woods may seem like the ideal ‘ first night’ spot; after a two- hour drive, you will probably just want to go to sleep! Flowers, chocolates, champagne and a spa bath can make your first night together as a married couple extra special, and many accommodation venues provide these as part of their special honeymoon packages.
