“AN ANNABEL’S BRIDE IS A TIMELESS BRIDE.”

BY

DESIGN

ANNABEL’S BRIDAL STUDIO

www.annabelsbridal.com.au Hi Ladies, I’m Misty Annabel and my fabulous team of bridal stylists have been helping me create Canberra’s most breathtaking brides for 13 years. Time and time again, we’ve been told by brides-to-be they have entrusted us with their breathtaking transformations not just because we simply have a fabulous range of gorgeous gowns and accessories – but that they just have the best time with us. None of this happens by chance. I feel so strongly about Annabel’s primary role in every girl’s big day, that I pore over the detail of every gown and accessory before I accept them into our glamourous showroom and fitting rooms. Our gorgeous gowns are sourced from the best European, American and local designers including Rosa Clara, Wendy Makin, Jack Sullivan, Q’Nique Exquisite Bridal , Nicolina , Stella York and many more. And our extensive range of beautiful accessories include Windsor Bridal Jewellery, Say Bella, Sybella,Tina Jeffreys and Dreamtime Design. Please enjoy our website, but remember the best way to really experience the Studio is to visit us and find out why we are Canberra’s number one destination for bridesto-be. We’re told the experience is breathtaking. Love Misty X

Find a gown which will accentuate your best features and minimise those features you wish to play down. The following guidelines, with the help of a bridal gown professional, will see you wearing a gown you feel comfortable and look gorgeous in!

Small Bust

Emphasise elegant shoulders. Choose backless slinky or full skirts that match your style. Bust cups can always be stitched in your gown to add shape.

Big Bust

Dress straps should be broad enough to hide bra straps. A V or sweetheart neckline highlights your assets. Simplicity flatters your form.

“DESIGNER GOWNS WITHOUT THE DESIGNER PRICE TAG.”

Pear Shape

A-line skirts falling from the waist give a sleek appearance. Concentrate gown detail around the upper body, drawing the eye upwards.

Petite

Don’t let over generous shape or detail overwhelm your petite proportions. Enjoy the drama of a simple silhouette. Bias skirts tapering to the legs give height. Choose a fitted bodice to emphasise your small waist.

AFFORDABLE BRIDAL

www.affordableb.com.au

Thick Waist

It doesn’t matter what size or price bracket you are shopping for, at Affordable Bridal we believe that every girl should have her Cinderella moment.

Heavy, body skimming (not hugging) fabric provides sexy camouflage. An interesting neckline or asymmetrical swathing deflects attention, and vertical seams or an empire line falling from the bust elongate the body.

With over 350 gowns in store, in a range of styles from fitted to full princess, in sizes 0 to 30, we ensure everyone has a choice of dresses to try on.

Full Figure

We provide brides with the most up-to-date styles by attending trade shows both in Australia and the USA, and throughout the year trunk shows enable us to share upcoming dress trends with our brides.

Consider that an overlay of lace or georgette gives flattering fluid coverage. Very shiny fabrics add kilos, embroidery can emphasise a beautiful décolletage and elbow length sleeves show off graceful forearms.

Affordable Bridal caters to all brides with well priced, affordable gowns that everyone can purchase without compromising on style or fit. Our service is outstanding with a focus on the most important person, “You”.

THIS ROSA CLARA GOWN IS MADE OF FRENCH CHANTILLY LACE AND I MUST CONFESS MY WEAKNESS FOR FRENCH CHANTILLY LACE. IT SO DELICATE ON THE SKIN AND MOULDS OVER THE BODY BEAUTIFULLY. A TRULY DIVINE PRODUCT OF FRENCH HISTORY. FEMININE YET ALSO EFFORTLESSLY MODERN.

DELICATE

What are the outstanding features of this gown? The applique on the neckline is incredible. A boat neckline shows off your collar bones and this gown delightfully exposes the tip of your shoulder as well. The exaggerated plunging sweetheart is a new variation on the V neckline, which is very popular with the designer for 2018. It’s nice to be a little unique, this stunning low back feature of french chantilly lace cascading into a sweeping chapel train. This gown would make you feel incredibly glamorous.

them after the wedding. I’m in love with the Jimmy Choo and Nine West soft glitter pump this season. Cinderella’s slippers. What type of veil would suit this style? I would love to style this gown with a one tier long (just past the train ) soft tulle scallop lace edged veil or a one tier cathedral length plain silk tulle veil.

Is there a particular body shape suited to this style of dress? A bride to be that loves a natural glam look would suit this style, it’s not about your body shape. It’s about your style. What style of wedding would this dress suit? This glamorous look would suit a Chapel or Garden with a Modern/Romantic theme. It’s how you personalise the look, that makes it right for your wedding. Which accessories would be the perfect match for this gown? A delicate tear drop crystal earring, a little bit of movement illuminates a Bride’s skin and face. I would add a hairpiece for the reception look once the veil has been removed or a halo of flowers and some amazing shoes. My brides invest in their shoes, so they can enjoy wearing

Your advice to the bride keen to wear this style of gown? Wearing the correct underwear is imperative for a sleek and glamorous body line. This involves wearing spanx or as we call them at the Studio, passion killers. My advice, wear the spanx for ceremony and photos, then pop on the pretty briefs at the reception. Most importantly, wear your gown with confidence.

THIS IS ONE OF OUR FAVOURITE GOWNS FOR THE SEASON, IT IS SOFT AND DREAMY WITH A LITTLE POP OF WOW WITH THE DELICATE BEADING. THE ILLUSION BODICE IS VERY ON TREND FOR 2018.

Which accessories would be the perfect match for this gown? Light gold twisted flowers are perfect for the hair; opt for sculpted looks instead of fresh to avoid any dramas of wilted flowers on the day. Your accessories will become your heirloom piece that can be handed down to generations. What style of wedding would this dress suit? This gown is perfect for many wedding styles, from classic to modern. Change your accessories to bring in a rustic or boho look. Is there a particular body shape suited to this style of dress? This style will suit a curvy hourglass figure or a more athletic build. Your advice to the bride keen to wear this style of gown? This gown is exclusive to us at Affordable Bridal, it takes around 6-7 months to have it made and ready to wear for your day. Be sure to order well in advance to avoid any last minute stress.

What are the outstanding features of this gown? The skirt is made from the softest crepe with a stretch lining, which falls softly over the body creating a flattering silhouette. The mermaid skirt falls into a chapel length train and is edged with lace and tiny beads and pearls. As you turn around the back is low to show off the beautiful lace; for those who are not so daring it also comes with a detachable lining. This style is dreamy and feminine creating a modern look but with a traditional twist. What type of veil would suit this style? A long sheer full length veil would complement this look.

‘ETHAN SLIM FIT’ IS PERFECT FOR THE YOUNG MODERN MALE WHO LIKES THE SLIMMER FITTING SUIT, WHILE ‘TRENT TAILORED FIT” IS FOR THE GENTLEMAN WHO LIKES A MORE TAILORED SUIT, WHICH ALLOWS A MORE GENEROUS FIT. Trent Tailored Fit

Ethan Slim Fit

STYLISH FIT

What style of wedding would these outfits suit? The ‘Ethan Slim Fit’ would be a perfect fit for the modern style wedding. The ‘Trent Tailored Fit’ would suit the classic style wedding.

What are the outstanding features of these suits? Ethan Slim Fit (right): Slim-line, modern and flattering for the slimmer body - it has the neatest fit. The jacket is narrower on the shoulders which lengthens the silhouette giving the impression that it is cut closer to the body. It’s jacket is also shorter than others and sits above the thighs, while the pants are narrower through the hips and thighs. Trent Tailored Fit (left): The newest addition to our range - this suit is cut closer to the body. The jacket is cut slightly narrower in the shoulder and the arm holes are cut higher, lengthening the silhouette and making the jacket look more fitted. The waist is cut closer to the body which creates a fitter look, with the jacket sitting below the thigh. The pants are more tapered through the hips and thighs so it fits slightly closer.

29

The jacket and trousers of both suits can also be purchased separately.

What accessories would work with these two suits? ‘Paramount’ business shirts would be ideal as they are available in a variety of plain, patterned and colour choices. ‘Lowes’ Classic ties and bow ties are also available in a variety of plain, patterned and colour options. For the Classic lace up shoe, ‘Perizzi’ Bombay can be purchased in two colours. Your advice to those keen to wear either of these suit styles? Both of the above suits are not just for the grooms or groomsmen they can fit page boys, father of the bride and don’t forget your guests!

FILE

As we know, most men aren’t slaves to fashion, but the more fashion conscious male does like style - and this never goes out of fashion! An upcoming wedding is the perfect opportunity to introduce something new into the wardrobe and spruceup by sporting the latest styles for the big day. 3 Must Haves A stylish haircut

A stylish suit

A stylish fragrance

A stylish haircut It’s not uncommon these days for a blow-wave/dry request for men on their wedding day. And style cuts for beards are common place with facial hair the no.1 on-trend fashion accessory. The Taper, French Crop, Quiff or Side Part are versatile hairstyles for men, which when combined with a short beard or stubble, look spoton in the fashion stakes. Add a touch of dust powder to the hair for a dramatic Hollywood effect or for men that like their locks a little longer, a spritz of sea salt spray will give them that cool, beach tossed hair look.

The taper

The classic taper haircut is the perfect men’s hairstyle with just the right balance between sophistication and versatility. This style consists of short hair around the sides which is buzzed down with clippers. At the top there is slightly more length throughout.

Red Photography

Eddison Photographic Studios

French Crop

Similar to the short, back and sides but with more length on top creating a more dramatic edge and a long fringe (depending on length preference). Add texture for a messy effect or blow dry forward. Or if you prefer a straight crop, it’s essentially the same as a French crop, but with less length on top - think Buzz cut on the sides with a scissor-cut on top. If you like a more contemporary French crop, opt for increased scalp exposure through the back and sides to create a more dramatic look.

Eddison Photographic Studios

Quiff

Versatile style splicing together elements of Pompadour and 1950s flattop, this is a style that’s not afraid to make it’s presence felt. Voluminous on top. Combined with a high or low fade on the back and sides.

Side Part

The main feature of the side part is the clean parting and sleek sweep of hair. This gives a striking and stylish look. Great for straight haired men. This cut is a close cousin of the classic taper. It differs from the Crop and Quiff by being less dramatically faded on the sides. With barbers very on-trend, it’s a good time to go and visit and see what type of style would suit you. There are so many styles and variations to these, so you’re sure to find something to make you look and feel great for your special day.

A stylish suit Style is easily achieved with the right suit. Firstly, consider the style of the wedding - and whether the dress code is to be formal black-tie, cocktail, semi-formal or smart casual.

Formal black-tie

A formal black-tie dress code makes it easy to look sharp. A welltailored, fitted and minimalistic black tuxedo (single breasted) with a classic, crisp white shirt, black leather shoes and a black bowtie will have the men looking suave and sophisticated.

Eddison Photographic Studios

Semi-formal/Cocktail attire

A dark blue or dark grey suit is perfect for a semi-formal or cocktail dress code for your wedding. Narrow cut styles look modern and classic and with the addition of a slim tie and a shirt which complements the colour of the suit, plus the addition of black or brown leather shoes or loafers, this look retains a certain amount of formality without the ’stuffiness’ of the formal tuxedo. Cocktail attire is a little more about the individual details, such as a stylish tie or textured/ checkered shirt, whereas semi-formal attire is still a bit more formal with the overall look more subdued and more about an exceptionally tailored suit, than the accessories. Brighter blue suits and lighter grey or white suits are also on-trend.

Eddison Photographic Studios

Eddison Photographic Studios

Smart Casual

Great for a beach wedding, where a sports jacket or blazer and chinos is ideal. Mix with casual leather or suede shoes such as loafers and a lightweight shirt to complete the look - less structured, softer textured materials are commonly worn. Beach weddings also look perfect with the groom and groomsmen wearing waistcoats without a jacket or suspenders (braces) to add a casual rustic charm.

Fusion Photography

Aramis by Aramis

Dense and complex with wood, spices and an intensive leather note. Masculine fragrance with strong character. Produced by Estee Lauder in 1964, Aramis by Aramis was a pioneer in men’s fragrance. Refined and distinctive fragrance.

A stylish fragrance - makes scents! While women go to great lengths to make sure everything is planned, down to what colour nail polish they will wear, some men tend to think they’ve got it all sorted once they find the right suit. There’s no doubting, a well fitted suit does make a man look superb, but if you want to really impress, a stylish scent is the perfect addition. We all know a scent can remind us of a special time or place, so utilise this and invest in a favourite scent for your special day.

Pour Monsieur by Chanel

Sophisticated citrus opening. First released in 1955, it is a very refined fragrance and an eternal classic.

There are many trendy new fragrances, but sometimes you can’t go past the classics for a stylish scent.

Davidoff CoolWater

Notes of lavender, rosemary, mint, coriander and juniper which is combined with lily of the valley, jasmine, honeysuckle and geranium to create a subtle sexy scent. Fresh, clean smell and not too expensive.

Here are some of our favourites:

Eau Sauvage by Christian Dior Fresh notes of lemon and rosemary combined with spicy lavender and a masculine, wood base. First released in 1966, Eau Sauvage by Christian Dior is one of the greatest classic men’s fragrances.

DRESSING YOUR BRIDESMAIDS Gorgeous soft, floaty layers utilising crepes, mikados and georgettes are not only popular with bridal gowns, but with bridesmaids dresses also. There are so many styles available nowadays, which is a good thing as often the ‘one size fits all’ approach just doesn’t work when sizes and shapes vary widely between your bridesmaids. Bridesmaids are often offered a variety of styles either in the one colour or within a certain colour range to keep everyone happy and looking their best in a style that suits their individual shape.

s soon as I went to Your Local Wedding Guide Wedding Fair in Canberra well over a year ago, I laid eyes on the amazing work of Melissa’s from A Shot Above The Rest Photography. I was then set on booking her in, it was a must! The day finally arrived and having done an engagement shoot with her I was a hundred percent sure that the wedding photos were going to be beyond amazing and I wasnt wrong! The day was such a fast day with limited time at location shoots however Melissa smoothed over any issues we had and produced the most amazing images in the short time we had. Her work is beyond five stars and the quality is incredible. Melissa’s work is very natural and breathtaking. MICHAEL & JULIA

E

verything about Julia and Michael’s wedding spoke warmth and understated elegance. A simple garden ceremony in New Acton was followed by a relaxed and beautiful reception at Parlour wine room. It seemed effortless: the obvious affection Michael and Julia inspired in their guests, and the beautiful arrangements they’d made for their friends to celebrate with them.

THE FIRST LOOK

Red Photography

NATURAL PHOTOS

Couples are wanting a more authentic look to their photos, with less formal, posed shots and more natural free form shots. Telling a story is important, with a documentary approach to shooting weddings on trend.

2016 saw the introduction of ‘The First Look’, a trend where couples meet up before the ceremony to get ‘First Look’ shots together. The sense of anticipation, and the surprise of seeing his beautiful bride makes for emotional, powerful and natural photos. This trend continues with natural, candid style shots in favour.

ATMOSPHERIC SHOTS

Taking advantage of the natural beauty of backgrounds and landscapes, photographers are creating some breathtaking photos for weddings. With these atmospheric shots, the couple are portrayed not as the main feature, but simply a part of something much larger than themselves. Many couples are keen to follow this trend as they can produce powerfully emotive images. Moody shots at dusk or dawn, of dark cloudy skies or vast starry nights have a timeless quality which creates a sense of awe.

When it comes to social media, it’s good to let your guests know where you stand. Some couples really don’t want their wedding photos splashed all over social media, while other couples create a Hashtag and encourage their guests to take lots of candid shots to share online. The choice is yours, but make it clear which way you would like to go if you have strong views either way.

44

VINTAGE STYLE

Many couples are opting for black and white photos, adopting a vintage style look to record their day. Some couples are going a step further and employing the use of film to create softer style shots in contrast to the sharp digital shots of modern day photos.

DRONES

Not just for videography, Drones are also being incorporated into wedding photography and are creating unique wedding photos. Drones take photos from original angles that otherwise wouldn’t be able to be captured. They record a whole new perspective on weddings!

STEVEN & CHIARA W

e met at a mutual friends party 8 years ago. Steven asked me to marry him July in 2016 on a helicopter ride over the Sydney harbour. We started planning our wedding planning and set a date for spring 2017. With a large family we needed a big space to have the wedding and after seeing the Gandel hall at the NGA we knew it was the perfect place. Our wedding was a lunchtime wedding and we had the most amazing day surrounded by lots of family and friends. Eddie and his wife were so helpful on the day and went out of their way to make sure we had a great day. We have been so happy with the photos.

WHAT TO ASK YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER Choosing a wedding photographer but don’t know where to start? We’ve put together a basic list of questions to help guide you. Who will be taking our photos?

Be aware that some photography studios hire outside photographers. When there is more than one photographer, selecting the principal photographer may incur an extra booking fee. If you love the work of a particular studio, don’t be deterred from booking them just because they hire outsiders. Ask to see samples of work from the actual photographer to ensure his/her work is the stye that you are after. Arrange a meeting prior to the wedding. Often this can take the form of an engagement shoot where you will immediately see how well you can work together.

How experienced are you with wedding photography?

It is very important to ask any potential wedding photographer this question. Don’t rely on only seeing the photographer’s sample work. Ask for a reference and to see a whole wedding that this photographer has done, either from proofs or on the computer. Remember, experience does count for a lot and shouldn’t be underestimated – especially if you are after a certain look to your photos.

What’s covered by my package?

Some photographers charge by the hour, some have packages based on hourly blocks such as one, four or six hours, while some will stay until the end of the reception. Ensure you are aware of the time frame your package includes. If you have special photographic requirements, ask your photographer if you can vary the package and what the cost might be. Most are happy to oblige, but if your photographer

www.WeddingGuide.com.au

Eddison Photographic Studios

is not flexible, ask for other alternatives. Don’t lose your preferred photographer because you are too scared to ask questions! Generally, most photographers don’t require a wedding photo list. It is very important, however, to advise your photographer of any special requests, such as visiting friends or relatives from overseas. Don’t assume he/she will capture everyone. A good idea is to have a family friend or relative that knows your family and friends (from both sides) to organise the guest photos for you.

Do I receive the negatives/high resolution digital images or do they remain your property? Who owns the copyright to the negatives? Don’t just assume you get the negatives from your photographer because you think you own them. Most do offer you the option to purchase the negatives either as a package or as an optional extra cost. As to the copyright question, according to the copyright law, photographers own the negatives. You own the copyright. However, photographers may ask you to sign over that copyright to the studio at the time of booking. The reason for this, is so that the photographer can control

48

where your wedding images end up, such as in magazines or other publications. If you have a package that includes the negatives, you will have license to copy those negatives from a photo lab for your family and friends without breaching copyright. Remember, however, that you don’t have the right to publish any of those photographs in any form of media – including a personal webpage – without specific written permission from your photographer (often referred to as a limited license). It is best to sort out if, and when, you will receive the negatives, prior to signing a contract or paying the booking fee. .

What are your cancellation policies? Or what if you can’t attend?

Don’t assume you automatically get your money back if you cancel your booking with your photographer. Many photographers do not refund a booking fee once paid. Make sure you know your photographer’s refund policy as they are quite within their rights to refuse a refund. Most photographers have a back-up plan if they are sick, but don’t just assume yours does. Discuss a contingency plan prior to the wedding.

SETTING THE SCENE

When considering your wedding photographer, couples need to consider how important wedding photos are to them.

Couples need to take into account the style, special effects, and quality of the photographers they would like. Photographers appreciate couples who permit them to incorporate their creative flair, experience and expertise when photographing their wedding.

Some couples are extremely passionate about their wedding photos and place photography high on their priority list, while other couples might be happy to settle for an informal, less expensive or less experienced photographer.

Experience does count for a lot and shouldn’t be underestimated especially if you are after a certain look to your photos. Photographers spend many years gaining their skills. They also attend seminars and workshops to improve their skills and invest in the latest computer software to ensure they provide you with the latest trends in wedding photography. Photographers who have had only a few years in the industry don’t always know the “secrets” more seasoned professionals know. You may also find that a photographer who has not long been shooting weddings will, more often than not, be still experimenting with new things.

Your photography requirements are unique, so it is important for couples-to-be to ensure they choose a photographer that reflects their personal style and meets their wedding needs. There are three distinctive types of wedding photographers: The professional, talented wedding photographer, often skilled in lighting, special effects, and has a reputation for taking high-quality, ‘stand-out’ photos. The ‘up-and-coming’ talented but inexperienced photographer that hasn’t been in the industry very long but has exhibited exceptional talent.

Experienced photographers who has been in the industry for well over 10 years will know the basics and can concentrate on the latest styles and trends in wedding photography. To feel comfortable, visit the various photographers’ websites. Be aware that lack of experience is usually the most common reason why some photographers have cheaper prices than others.

The average photographer, usually a family member or friend, who has offered to take a few amateur photos of your wedding day.

Most wedding photographers will also want to do a photography timing plan with you. This plan will set out the timing of your wedding photographs in and around the other aspects of your wedding, including hair and make-up, pre-wedding at home photos, the ceremony, location photos, and your wedding reception. Ideally, the plan needs to be arranged four weeks prior to your wedding day when you should have a good idea of your wedding agenda and timeframes. Wedding plans can change more than four weeks before, and in turn can alter your photography plans. When finalising your photography plans, you and your partner need to consider lighting and sunset times, especially when choosing the time for your ceremony. Occasionally couples find out their ceremony time is too late, especially in winter, and run out of light to take photos. In this situation, if the ceremony time can’t be changed, you will need to decide if you would like to have the photographs taken prior to the wedding when lighting is ideal. This would allow your partner to see you before the ceremony (the first look), or your other option is a night-time photo shoot. As a guide, most photographers will commence the wedding photo shoot at the bride’s home about an hour prior to the ceremony, then will move to the church or ceremony venue to photograph the groomsmen, before photographing the ceremony and family. After this, the bridal party will accompany the photographer to a pre-arranged location for about two hours. The photographer will then accompany you to the wedding reception, stay for the cutting of the cake and bridal waltz or take staged photos of these prior to your reception, allowing them to leave earlier. This schedule is only a guide and will depend on your personal arrangements with your photographer. Talking over your photography options with your photographer will ensure your wedding runs smoothly, on time, and that you and your partner receive desirable results and photos you will both be delighted with.

Often a combination of poses, special effects, lighting, high-quality camera equipment, in-depth technical knowledge and experience can enhance your photos and result in consistent images that will make your wedding photos extra special. It’s quite normal for couples to allocate 20 to 25 percent of their total wedding budget towards photography, with costs dependant on image quality, the presentation of your photos, and the wedding package you choose. Photographers offer many different packages from digital prints to designer albums, and can tailor packages to suit your individual style, needs and budget. When discussing your package requirements with your photographer, it’s a good idea to also discuss payment options. Most photographers will let you pay off your wedding photography package in part-payments, allowing you to select a photographer that provides you with memorable photos.

Eddison Photographic Studios

Wedding Photography has become an art form; capturing not just the couples wedding day but also some of their unique personalities. But once the wedding day is over, only two things remain: the couples love for each other and the photographic reminders of their special day. Often when couples see their images for the first time they get quite emotional... great photography really is priceless!

Steven Lloyd Photography

www.WeddingGuide.com.au

A good idea is to get an Engagement or Couples photo shoot when you first book your photographer. This way you can become familiar with their style and technique, identify your best angle and most importantly, establish a personal rapport to ensure you feel comfortable with each other. This trial run can be a nice memento of you as a couple ‘before you were married’. If you’re happy with the shoot, then you will feel more confident with your photographer, and relaxed in the knowledge that your wedding photography will be in capable hands.

To see the emotion.. . to feel the love.. . to capture it all

I aim to create memories by telling the story of your wedding day through beautiful images. My aim is simple.... to create memories by telling the story of your wedding day through beautiful images.

Photography gives us the unique opportunity to capture fleeting moments in our lives…

To capture the emotion of you, your family and friends. To capture the candid expressions, the romance, the laughter and the tears. The littlest details that make the big impact. Your day will be made up of so many special moments. I will capture these piece by piece and not miss a minute. This is your wedding day. There is no ‘one size fits all’. You are unique, your day is unique and we will make your memories unique.

My goal, as your photographer, is to capture these moments exactly as you want to remember them, so you can look at your photographs and feel the same passion, joy and excitement in the future, as you do right now.

DAZZLING DIAMONDS The engagement ring

Remember when selecting the engagement ring it will be worn for the rest of your life so think carefully about your investment. The prime thing to remember is that it should reflect your personality and your individuality. The white diamond is still the most popular and traditional choice of gem but if you like some colour you can choose any gem. It is also a lovely idea to incorporate your birthstone as part of your engagement ring. When selecting the stone, particularly a diamond, the four most important characteristics to look for are the cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. The cut Cut refers to the arrangement of a diamond’s facets, whatever its shape. Most diamonds are cut with a full 58 facets, and different cuts will reflect light differently. A well-proportioned cut will reflect light between the facets and up through the crown. The shape of the stone is a matter of personal preference. The round (brilliant) shape is the most popular, with shapes like the emerald (rectangular), the marquise (oblong with pointed ends), the pear, the oval, the princess (square), and the heart shape offering some variety. The cut is the only one of the four qualities determined by man. Clarity When you choose your diamond, choose one as close to colourless as possible; this allows white light to pass through and be dispersed as dazzling rainbows of colour on top. Very few diamonds are truly colourless, with most having a barely distinguishable brown or yellow tint. Clarity is determined by the number, size and position of inclusions (an inclusion is a trace of non-crystallised carbon). A diamond free of inclusions is very rare and therefore very valuable. The actual weight is measured in carats with each carat divided into 100 points. So the weight of a diamond of 25 points is 0.25 carats, or 1/4 carat.

Eddison Photographic Studios

The setting Settings show off the brilliance of the ring and set the style. A complementary, innovative, and professional design and ring setting will ensure their natural beauty is highlighted. The most popular settings include: Bezel set - diamond is set in a secure frame of precious metal; Channel set – a number of diamonds set side by side within a band of precious metal; Claw set – a solitaire diamond is held in place by four or six metal prongs that bend over it; Pavé set – many small diamonds are placed closely together and held in place by individual grains of gold; and Tension set – a modern version of the classic solitaire, the diamond is suspended in a gap in the actual band. The metal While yellow gold has traditionally been seen on Australian brides, the popular European trend of using white gold is now coming to the fore. Some jewellers say all diamonds should be placed in platinum or white gold, as it can make the diamond look larger and brighter. However, yellow gold, rose gold and silver are still very popular. Some couples choose a style that combines one or two of the options. A combination of yellow and white gold best enhances semi-precious and precious stones. Pearls, amber, amethyst, and opals can be adapted to more unusual design styles.

The wedding ring

The wedding ring is the ring you exchange with your partner at the wedding ceremony. The wedding ring symbolises the eternal continuity of an unending and unbroken circle, and is worn on the third finger of your left hand - the same finger as your engagement ring. Therefore, you should ensure they complement each other. Your wedding rings can be yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, silver, platinum, or a combination - whichever you prefer. In Australia, the wedding ring has traditionally been a simple gold band, particularly for men. However, now they are more often set with a diamond or two, or another precious stone and are tending towards more patterns, twists and turns in a chunkier style. Many couples are choosing specially designed matching wedding bands that feature engraving or you could inscribe a simple yet poignant message on the inside of the band. Remember to check that neither of you react to your choice of metal. While platinum is very popular, white gold is a less expensive choice yet looks very similar.

Studio Knox

www.WeddingGuide.com.au

When selecting your wedding rings consider these questions: Will the engagement ring style easily accept a wedder and eternity ring as companions? Will the rings date when fashions change? Is the style practical for long term use? Are the rings comfortable to wear?

66

Advice when buying an engagement ring

1. Lifestyle – this is a very important consideration, as this ring will be on her hand pretty much everyday for the rest of her life. Most women don’t like to take off their rings for work, sports or hobbies, so pick a style that will fit with her lifestyle. Think about how high above her hand the ring sits, is it easy to clean, will the claws/prongs be too prominent. All of these things impact on the wearability of the ring. 2. Personal style – this is tricky, as most women like a variety of styles. If you watch closely you should get a good idea of how she generally chooses to express herself with clothes, shoes and her current jewellery. Is she modern, or very classic? Is she most definitely a white diamond type, or would she prefer a coloured stone engagement ring? The style of the ring needs to express her, as she will be wearing it everyday. 3. Budget – there is an amazing engagement ring perfect for you in every budget, you just need some advice on where to concentrate your dollars. Do you prefer a smaller high-quality gem, or are you a best bling for your buck buyer? Do you want 9, 14 or 18ct gold? Do you want a custom piece exclusively handmade, or can you manage a more modest make? Do you want side stones or not? Halo or not? A great jeweller will help you find the right ring for you. 4. Ring size – this is a big deal. If you are planning a surprise engagement ring, then it is very important to get the ring size right. It can be resized later, but it is very anticlimactic to pop the question….and then have a ring that is too small to wear! 5. Protection – consider insurance. This is a big investment for something that is small and valuable. It is also likely to travel overseas, and be taken on and off on many occasions. If you insure your house and car, it is probably the right decision to insure your engagement ring. Last piece of advice – enjoy this time in your life! It is an exciting new chapter and something that you will talk about for many anniversaries to come…and maybe with your kids in the years to come. Find a jeweller you like and trust, and who will help you make the process special. Best of Luck! Danielle Klar - Plumery

HEALTH & BEAUTY

Your health, hair and makeup play an important role on your wedding day. Take the time to look at various options so you’ll feel happy and confident that you look and most importantly, feel great on the day. health&beauty Red - if your dare

Red lips are also making a comeback for the bolder bride who likes a more dramatic look. Paired with minimal makeup, it looks stunning, modern and fresh.

ON TREND

Hair & Makeup

The eyes have it

Dramatic eyes are in. Wings with false eyelashes or extensions and a smoky look at the corners creates a sultry, yet sophisticated air. Makeup will be more dramatic in 2018 due to the return of the veil covering the face.

Hair flair

Hair continues along the trend of being not as structured for 2018. Steven Lloyd, hair stylist says low chignons which are not as polished and structured are popular, along with messy buns and braids. Steven suggests to be careful opting for down, curly styles for your wedding day because normally they will only last for a couple of hours before losing the tightness of the curl. With a whole day and night to look forward to, you need a style which will look as good at the end of the night as it did to start. ‘Perspiration, guests hugging you and your veil are things which can pull your hair and should be considered when deciding on a style’ says Steven.

Look amazing right down to the tips of your nails

A Shot Above the Rest Photography

With so many things to plan for your wedding, sometimes nails can be forgotten, or at the very least, thought about at the last minute! But it’s a good idea to invest in a decent hand cream or oil to give your nails some daily love in the lead up to your wedding. Your hands and nails will be in the spotlight often during the course of your wedding day - during the exchange of rings, in photos (including some major close-ups), and afterwards when you’ll want to show off your new married status!

Think pink

Pink is often the colour of choice for weddings with brides donning pink lipstick and blush, and grooms suiting up with shirts sporting that inexplicable hue; Millennial pink. For weddings, pink will never go out of style; its soft, romantic hue will always be welcomed by brides.

On trend orange

Orange and coral lip colour is trending everywhere, not just for brides. Ranging from cool pink based coral colours for light complexions with cool undertones; to more vibrant shades in fruity colours like peach, apricot and tangerine for medium skin tones; to even brighter true orange based coral colours for deeper complexions; everyone can wear this popular Summer colour.

Eddison Photographic Studios

French manicures have always been a favourite for weddings and look beautiful in photos, but some brides like to opt for a colour to suit their colour theme. Pink has been hugely popular for weddings, but coral shades or peach/ apricot tones will look gorgeous this summer. If in doubt, neutral shades always look good or you can add a splash of glamour by using some glitter or applying a chrome overcoat! There are also lots of gorgeous pastel colours which are popular now. Because they are more subdued, you can get away with a blue or green or any colour to suit your wedding colours, without looking too bright. If you don’t usually get a professional manicure, your wedding is the perfect time to enjoy a little pampering and invest in one.

Eddison Photographic Studios

*Our Tip - Don’t try anything too different with your makeup for your wedding day. If you’re not used to wearing bright red lipstick for example, now is not the time to try! Certainly up the glamour, but at the same time make sure you feel comfortable and confident with how you look on your special day.

CAKES OF YOUR DREAMS

cakesofyourdreams.com.au

“I love making cakes and I love bringing a bit of sweetness into peoples lives” Why is this one of your favourite cake designs? This is one of my favourite designs because it tells a story of the couple. It is also stylish and individual. It has four different flavours; Lime & coconut, dark chocolate orange, vanila and traditional fruit cake. This design would be suited to anyone’s wedding as it is customised to suit you. No two weddings will ever be the same.

When I was little my grandparents had a cake shop then later my parents had a cake shop for 14 years. When my parents retired I started my own business and I have never looked back. That was 22 years ago.I do this job because I love making cakes and I love bringing a bit of sweetness into peoples lives.

Where do you get your inspiration? I get my inspiration from everywhere; mostly from brides, Instagram, fashion and nature. I am a 4th generation pastry chef so I was born into it. I spent my whole life in cake shops.

OUR FAVOURITE NATIVES

While many brides may have opted at one time for traditional white lilies over the bold Australian Banksia, currently native floral bouquets are hotly sought after. So while our native flora may lack a certain kind of classicism, it makes up for it by being diverse, fresh, colourful, hardy and uniquely textural. There’s so much variety and with natives accessible through most metropolitan florists there’s no reason not to search out a local equivalent to those lilies. We’ve picked out six of our favourite beautiful Aussie blooms - but there are so many more to choose from. It was pretty hard to limit ourselves to just six!

1. Protea

This sizeable yet softly-hued bloom is mistakenly thought of as an Australian native - when in fact it hails from South Africa - but as it is so easily grown in our soil it has come to be thought of as an unofficial Aussie. Closely related to the Grevillea family, the Protea is equally striking and pretty and comes in a huge number of varietals. The most common is the King Protea, which comes in pink or white. Also seek out the variety Pink Ice, which boasts a richer pink hue and gorgeously soft petals that would make it a great bouquet centrepiece alongside some textural, tropical foliage.

1

2. Waratah

The mighty Waratah isn’t for the faint-hearted. Think of it as the Australian equivalent of the red rose: bold and glamorous and screaming of passion. Most commonly available in red, this bloom is now being bred for the cut flower market in white as well, giving it that classic white wedding feel. Plus one of the greatest things about the Waratah is that they’re a hardy flower, and will easily stand up to the heat without wilting halfway through a midsummer, full sun ceremony. Textural, romantic and unique.

2

3. Paper Daisy

The Paper Daisy, usually available from spring until autumn, has stiff, papery petals that give a hardier, more interesting texture to the European daisy varieties. Commonly available in pink, white or yellow this little flower adds a pop of colour and injection of femininity to your bridal bouquet. The daisies could be styled along with other smaller blooms, or alternatively they would look great by themselves, giving a strong statement of individuality and fun.

4. Blushing Bride

Easily the favourite native of Australian brides, this flower is hard to beat. The downside is that you have to wait until the cold hits before it comes into season, but that’s the price you pay for wanting to carry this super-soft, gem of a flower. It pairs effortlessly alongside other natives for a vintage-type feel, can be used en masse, or alternatively it’s one of the few Australian flowers that sit easily alongside more Europeanstyle blooms, such as orchids, roses or Lisianthus. The strength of this flower is that it’s unique in both shape and texture and unassumingly pretty, while also being hardy.

3

4

5

5. Geraldton Wax Flower

This dainty native grows in abundance; is easily sourced in metropolitan areas; and in addition it’s guaranteed to add a touch of bush charm to your bridal bouquet. Coming in a range of hues – white, pink, purple and a colour verging on red – the small five-petalled bloom acts as great filler for bouquets and works well alongside other larger flowers. Think of it as an Australian alternative to a Forget-Me-Not or the common daisy, and the waxy nature of the flower lends it a hardiness and textural interest that’s uncommon in European-style flowers.

6

6. Billy Buttons

Billy Buttons – whether dried or fresh – can be used almost all year round. A favourite of decorators, brides and stylists these little buttony blooms provide a floral exclamation mark. They are cute, stylish and rustic all at once and can be used grouped together or spread out; interspersed throughout a bridal bouquet alongside other favourites such as spinning gum, acacia, waxflower or paper daisies. Their leafless, linear stems are quite striking, and for this reason they are sometimes used en masse, simply tied with twine or a gingham ribbon and resulting in a huge pop of yellow that works well in photos and results in an easily-maintained bridal bouquet, and one that can also be saved as a memento of your wedding day. Perfect for men’s buttonholes too!

THIS WEDDING CEREMONY ARRANGEMENT IS ONE OF OUR FAVOURITES AS IT DEPICTS THE BEAUTIFUL STYLE OF FLOWERS ON FLEMINGTON. WE AIM TO CREATE CLASSIC, NATURAL, ORGANIC AND ELEGANT FLOWERS FOR OUR BRIDES AND GROOMS AND ALL CLIENTS.

Q. What type of wedding would this arrangement be most suited to? A. This arrangement would be perfect for most Wedding ceremonies or receptions, it is bespoke, sophisticated and very elegant. Q. What flowers have you used to create your arrangement? A. The flowers used in this arrangement include Roses, Hydrangeas, Veronica, Amaranth, Rice Flower, Ivy Berry, Dusty Miller and assorted Summer Foliage.

Q.What flowers/arrangements are popular right now for weddings? A. A lot of our brides are still requesting the beautiful soft, natural and organic shaped bouquets that are in style at the moment. These bouquets look stunning with roses, David Austin roses, peonies, hydrangea, scabiosa and lots of lush flowing foliage. Australian natives are also popular and blend well with roses and other flowers for a beautiful look. Q.Where do you get your inspiration? A. The floral designers at Flowers on Flemington gain inspiration from local and international trends, by listening to our clients, and then combining those influences with our experience and style. Q. What made you go into floristry? A. We went into Floristry because of our love of flowers, the ability to express our creativity, to make pretty things, which in turn allows us to do the most important thing: deliver beautiful flowers for our clients.

www.WeddingGuide.com.au

Q. What trends do you predict for 2018 wedding flowers/arrangements? A. Wedding Flowers in 2018 will continue with the trends of soft, organic bouquets however a lot of bold colours like Burgundy are emerging in popularity. The shape of bouquets may also get a bit more “wild. Flower and foliage garlands, archways and table runners will still be very popular as will real flowers on the Wedding cake. We look forward to the growing trend of flower jewellery worn by brides. It is going to be an exciting year again for Florists. Q. Any advice to couples organising their flowers for their wedding? A. Our advice to couples organising Wedding Flowers would be to have an idea of colour, style and flowers ready to discuss with your florist before your first appointment. We are then able to give you suggestions and build on your ideas. Also, book your florist well in advance, Spring, Summer and Autumn are all busy months for us! Finally, have a realistic budget in mind. Flowers are a huge component in creating the beauty of your day, plan accordingly.

FLOWERS WITH LOVE flowerswithlove.net.au

Q. Why is this flower arrangement one of your favourites? A. I love the textures and colours of this one. Burgundy and green are my two favourite colours and at the moment they are very popular in wedding bouquets. Q. What flowers have you used to create your arrangement? A. A mix of roses, dahlias and Veronica with dusty miller and peppercorn foliage. Q.What flowers/arrangements are popular right now for weddings? A. The unstructured, ‘just picked from the garden’ look has been popular for a little while but a lot of our brides are still requesting the classic, rounded bouquet, or something in between the two. Q.Where do you get your inspiration? A. I get a lot of inspiration from nature, and when I walk my dog Daisy.

www.WeddingGuide.com.au

Q. What made you go into floristry? A. I have always loved to garden and grow things and started working in the Dried Flower Shop at Pialligo Plant Farm in 1990, we ran classes, made wreaths and dried flowers there. Since I was a child I’ve always been creative. Q. What trends do you predict for 2018 wedding flowers/arrangements? A. Flowers are a bit like fashion, the popularity of styles will do a full circle and eventually come back into fashion again. At the moment the loose, unstructured style is very popular but a lot of our bride’s still want the classic style bouquet too. Q. Any advice to couples organising their flowers for their wedding? A. Contact your florist as soon as you can to be sure they are not already booked out. Be prepared to be flexible with your flower choice because what you have your heart set on may be completely out of season.

ceremony

CEREMONY You’ve made the exciting decision to get married, and now you’ll have many other decisions to make in regards to your wedding. One of these is where to get married. Your vows are considered to be some of the most important words that you will ever say to each other, so where you choose to say these words should reflect you and your partners style and personality.

ceremony

YOUR CEREMONY, YOUR CHOICE Your ceremony is the most important part of your wedding day. It’s the moment where you will both express your love and commitment to each other; where your partnership is made legal in the eyes of the law and in the company of your family and friends. You have many available options on where and how you would like to be wed. The traditional way to be married is in a church service, but nowadays chapel weddings and garden weddings are very popular, and registry weddings are also available for those who want to get married with the minimum of fuss.

Chapel weddings are very popular as many cater for both religious and civil wedding ceremonies. Historical wedding chapels provide a timeless and elegant backdrop for the ceremony. As with church weddings, chapels eliminate the stress associated with outdoor weddings as weather and parking are no longer an issue to worry about. Many chapels also provide couples with the option of hosting cocktail drinks at the chapel after the wedding ceremony. Cocktail drinks can provide an excellent interlude before the wedding reception where the couple can take their photos while ensuring their guests are looked after and enjoying themselves.

Chapel Weddings

Church Weddings

Most couples that get married in a church do so for religious reasons. At least one partner, but usually both are expected to follow the beliefs of the church. Most church leaders advise pre-marital counselling sessions and some will require you to complete a questionnaire. The main thing is to ensure you feel happy and comfortable with your church hy A Shot Above the Rest Photograp leader. They will have an important role in your wedding, so being able to communicate with them well is vital. A traditional church ceremony may be more structured than a civil ceremony, but there will usually be some options available to personalise your ceremony.

Garden Weddings

The beauty of a natural environment appeals to many couples. The choice to have a garden wedding offers a less formal environment for many couples looking for the peace and tranquility of a garden. If you choose a public park, you will need to advise the local council in advance to avoid conflicting venue arrangements and arrange for any permits which may be necessary. When choosing a garden some things to check for are: access to parking for guests, noise issues such as passing traffic, power availability, rest room distance, shelter availability. It’s advisable to inspect the grounds so that you can ensure it’s suitable for your needs.

Winery Weddings

Fusion Photography

Registry Weddings

For a no-fuss wedding ceremony you can be legally married at the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages or at the local courthouse of larger rural and regional areas. You will have to follow all the protocol expected of any marriage by completing and lodging the required forms and information within the required timeframe.

Beach Weddings

A beach wedding, like all weddings is bound by restrictions and considerations. As well as the points relating to garden weddings, couples choosing to marry on the beach should consult their local council for permission. The tides, sand, wind and sun are all factors that you will have to take into consideration when planning a beach wedding.

Fusion Photography

Many Wineries offer on-site facilities for an exclusive wedding ceremony, with the vineyard as a backdrop or a water feature as just some of the options available. They can provide privacy and create a sense of seclusion for guests to totally relax and enjoy fine wine, food and service. If you’ve dreamt of exchanging your vows in the countryside, a farmhouse wedding may be suitable, or for something a little different again; a yacht or cruise wedding.

CREATIVE WRITING If you enjoy putting pen to paper, you might think writing your own vows will be easy; but sometimes it can be harder than it seems. Gina Callan, Licensed To Wed has supplied some tips below which will help to set you on the path to creating unique vows which are significant to both you and your partner.

5

1

Begin early, plan, write and review your vows using a shared approach. Then you and your partner can avoid feeling pressured and can decide effectively if you BOTH really do want to write your own vows or if you would rather not re-invent the wheel and stick with some great words already crafted and shared by others.

2

get inspired. Research and jot down words and phrases that you like from vows on the internet, books, films, celebrant examples, songs and poetry. Read old love letters, review words shared at your proposal, find inspirational quotes, literary passages, and stories of love, laughter, family and friendship.

Brainstorm some ideas together. Think about your relationship, where it began, your journey to date and any amusing or poignant moments that could be shared with others. What are your hopes and dreams as individuals, as a couple and/or as a family? What things do you love and admire in each other and what would you change? If this answer brings a smile to your face, others too may enjoy hearing it.

Fusion Photography

4

Agree to some general expectations. If writing your own vows, decide together how long and in-depth they will be and what is the overall tone you will aim for (eg. light, romantic, humorous, spiritual, traditional, pagan-themed, or contemporary?) Will you write your vows together or independently and will they be kept a secret from each other? What help or feedback might you need? You may consider saying “I love you” in there or you might say this in other ways.

3

Keep wording simple and brief. Will you read, repeat (after your celebrant) or memorise your vows? Will a couple of paragraphs take less than two minutes to be shared. Your celebrant, family, friends or your partner can offer some advice here and foresee problems based on experience too. Practice makes perfect... read your vows aloud several times to yourself (and other?) to make sure they work aloud. Practice your vows remembering to speak slowly and clearly. As witnesses to your marriage, at least two people by law need to hear your vows and all guests like to hear them. They have come to support you and all know you may feel nervous on the day. Even if memorising your vows, ensure you or your celebrant has a copy, so if you are distracted or emotional and lose your train of thought, all is not lost.

Have fun with it! If the process is not fun, the sharing won’t be either, so be open and enjoy this experience together! Tips supplied by Gina Callan, Licensed To Wed www.licensedtowed.com.au Red Photography

Fusion Photography

www.WeddingGuide.com.au

Decide on any particular words, phrases, significant or funny topics or experiences you don’t want to share or wedding guests might not enjoy. What words, nicknames or lovable expressions from the heart inspire personal meaning for you and guests? Can you rewrite more or less traditional vows, including quotes, extracts from readings or verses, or your own perspective. Including 1-2 words or lines that the other person is not expecting can be fun or meaningful.

WEDDING STYLING & HIRE

When it comes to wedding styling, we often put weddings into categories such as rustic, bohemian, vintage to name a few. In reality though, every wedding is unique and these categories are not meant to be rigid, but more a framework to work with and take from it what appeals to you. Professional wedding stylists can decorate your ceremony right through to your reception in a way that reflects who you are as a couple. They can help you narrow down your wedding ‘look’ and supply you with beautiful decor to suit your style.

What was the colour palette? Neutral tones with a touch of purple. What was the key to achieving the desired look? I wanted to create a relaxed but very elegant room for the couple and their guests to walk into. Using natural tones and quality burlap, we were able to create a beautiful reception at The Boathouse on the Lake. What role did the venue play when styling the wedding? Stepping into the foyer at The Boathouse, there is an earthy brick wall; perfect for a natural backdrop - symbolising a solid foundation to start a marriage. Were there any special touches you can mention to reflect the couples style? This multicultural couple comprised a French man born in Melbourne, single dad to two beautiful girls, and a single stunning Kenyan mum with another beautiful girl the beginnings of a new blended family. As we sat and laughed in “the old wedding shed,” the girls were into the sparkles but the parents wanted a no fuss, elegant reception. Winnie chose her seating plan - a bowl of fresh purple and white pansy with table cards. Christian choose a mirror for me to make as their welcome sign to their wedding. Winnie’s parents came from Kenya and other guests travelled from France and interstate. The couple both wanted a “wow factor” for their guests, and their reception delivered that. The plan for the ceremony was to be beside Lake Burley Griffin, however as the wind and overcast sky set in, the bride and groom moved indoors. Winnie and Christian gave me a brief and trusted in my judgement and skills as they had seen the quality products that were to be used. And the venue was very supportive, allowing us time to set up to weave our magic. Any advice for our Brides & Grooms? Every wedding is unique and different, so follow your dreams. Talk with your decorator and listen to their experience, as they can visualise what you want and can make it happen in a grand ballroom or a backyard. A few words to describe the day... Winnie And Christian’s wedding was a day of magic, full of love and laughter, good food and service, in a relaxed and elegant setting. Guests enjoyed dancing the night away, and a special dance was prepared by the three daughters for their parents.

STYLE YOUR WEDDING

Not sure how you want to style your wedding? To start, think about what’s important to you both and the atmosphere you would like to create for your wedding day. Are you romantic, traditional, lighthearted and fun or perhaps a little quirky? What shared experiences have helped to define you both as a couple? If you can define your shared style it will be easier to have some idea about what you would like for your wedding day.

What’s on trend?

Fresh, organic styled weddings Natural greenery with minimal florals creating elegant styling without the fussiness of flowers.

Donuts! Move over lolly bars, donut walls are on trend. This quirky trend allows guest to help themselves to a delicious donut when they feel peckish during your reception. Hung up in rows with a wooden peg, they are decorative as well as tasty and gives your space a relaxed type atmosphere.

Food trucks The food truck phenomenon is popular on the streets and is now on trend for weddings also. Offering unique, gourmet food, food trucks are a great idea if you’re organising your own catering. They come to your address, feed your guests, then pack up easily once done. From gourmet pizzas, tacos, gourmet rolls, chicken wings, soft serve ice cream, donuts and desserts, food trucks are dishing up unique and creative fare that tick all the boxes.

Take into consideration that your choice of venue will also influence the decor required. A traditional historic wedding venue may work better with traditional centrepieces and rich tones, while a modern contemporary space lends itself to clean crisp decor. Keep your theming simple - don’t over clutter. Remember that your wedding is a party, not a performance; so keep some perspective and don’t go over the top - less is more in most cases. entertainment

ENTERTAINMENT Entertainment is the perfect ingredient to complete your wedding day and there are so many different options available. The right entertainment will set the mood, highlight the day’s proceedings and create a special harmony to share with all those lucky enough to be celebrating with you. Whatever form of entertainment you choose, employ experienced personnel who understand your specific needs.

Fusion Photography

OUR TIPS What Style?

Choose the style of music you would like your disc jockey or musician to play. Popular choices include jazz, country, pop, bush, rock & roll, ballads, old style dance and dinner music. It’s a good idea to incorporate a few different styles to follow the nights proceedings. Ceremony - sounds of a string quartet, saxophonist or jazz duo is a popular way to say ‘I do’. Pre-dinner drinks & dinner - being neither loud nor intrusive, instrumental music is the ideal accompaniment. After dinner - more upbeat dance music will set the mood for a lively celebration.

www.WeddingGuide.com.au

Meet your Entertainer

Don’t just book online, set up an appointment so you can meet them first. Make sure their style is what you are after. Ask questions and discuss the reception format and music before booking your entertainment in. Check that they are able to perform any music or special song you would like. If you don’t have an MC (Master of Ceremonies) organised, it’s worth checking if your disc jockey can perform this additional role, as they are often called upon to do this job.

Last minute checks

A week before your wedding, it is advisable to contact your entertainer to reconfirm details. Check the reception date, venue, time guests will arrive, time you expect to finish and particular pieces of music you requested have been noted. If you have a separate MC, make sure your entertainer and MC meet each other on the day to discuss timing of toasts etc to ensure the proceedings run smoothly.

VIDEO REPLAY

A Shot Above the Rest Photography

CAPTURE THE IN-BETWEEN MOMENTS People love watching films...so why not capture your special day on film. It makes sense to capture it on video so all of the things you loved about your day can be watched and relived as often as you please. Your wedding video can be a moving experience to share with your family in the years to come.

So while your photographer will take those all important photos, both posed and candid for your wedding album, your videographer will be capturing everything in between. It’s important that you feel comfortable with your videographer as you will spend much of your wedding day with them, however in saying that, apart from when you are filmed getting ready, you will probably be too busy to even notice your videographer filming you during the course of the day; and that’s a good thing, as you won’t be posing or looking stiff or awkward on film.

REPLAY YOUR SPECIAL DAY Most brides-to-be spend months of planning for their special day, making sure every little detail is perfect; however on the day, they are usually too busy to take it all in! The day seems to go so fast and before you know it, it’s time to leave the reception with your new spouse. To have a video means you can watch it all back later, the highlights, the little things that made you laugh, the things you didn’t even see on the day, your friends and family celebrating with you, your vows, the toasts at the reception, plus all the little things that came together on the day. If you have close family that can’t make it to your wedding, whether due to distance or illness, what nicer way than to surprise them with a video of your wedding so they can share your experience.

COMMUNICATE ANY SPECIAL REQUESTS Make sure you discuss coverage with your videographer before the day. Think about the aspects of your wedding day that you would like included. If you have special family or guests that you especially want included, make a point of communicating it to your videographer. Wedding videos often start with the bride and her bridal party getting ready, then capture the groom and his groomsmen before moving to the ceremony venue. If you want your arrival in your transport filmed, make sure they are aware; don’t just presume this will happen, always check the details. Sometimes they will follow you during your photographs or they may meet you at the reception a little later. Most will stay until you both depart, but again check that this is the case. Good communication and planning is important beforehand, so on the day you won’t need to worry.

transport

TIPS FOR A SMOOTH RIDE

Transport can be as simple as decorating the best cars you, your friends and family have to offer, or as unique and charming as a horse drawn carriage, fleet of vintage cars, BMW convertibles, Chrysler 300C’s or a stretch limousine. But it doesn’t end there; buses, motorbikes and even helicopters have been used to create an awe inspiring entrance.

4 Communicate

1 Plan early

If you’re planning to be late or early, ensure instructions are given to both drivers and other involved parties. Also if you have any othe r preferences, such as for a tradition al slow, elegant wedding processio n, make sure you make your driver awa re.

The earlier you enquire and plan for your wedding day transport, the more likely you will be able to secure the vehicle which will fit seamlessly into your wedding theme.

2 Check their Accreditation re they When using a professional, ensu nt of rtme Depa the with d are registere editation accr their see to Ask t. spor Tran red certificate as you will not be cove e ranc insu y by personal third part an is It d. tere regis if they are not e their offence for a lay person to driv or own vehicle and receive payment are they as ices reward for their serv rance, not covered by third party insu sed. licen or d tere regis erly prop

5 Timing

Ensure your drivers are organised at least one hour prior to the wedding; this allows for any last minute problems. Also discuss the length of time allocated to driving time, photography etc. Professional drivers may have other commitments they must leave for, so ensure your transport is booked for the appropriate length of time. Allow for the potential of things going overtime.

traditions&customs

TRADITIONS & CUSTOMS Traditions, customs, conventions and superstitions, whether you realise it or not, are probably all a part of your wedding. Although most of these rituals started in times when marriage was very different to what it is today, their core symbolism relates to the unification of a couple; to a couple becoming one.

The eternal bond This never-ending circle, complete union without end, is symbolised today by wedding rings. Customs comply with the ‘eternal bond’ in various ways; the wedding ceremony of the Greek Orthodox involves holding a crown over the couple; in Jewish tradition, the ceremony takes place under a ‘huppah, where the couple shares a glass of wine, then the groom breaks the glass, freezing the moment in time. Some asian cultures believe that by sharing rice from the same bowl, the bride and groom show their oneness; and in Japanese custom, the couple takes three sips of rice wine to seal their union.

A Shot Above the Rest Photography

Carried over the threshold This romantic custom is believed to have come from the time when tribal man hit his chosen wife over the head and carried her away where her kin couldn’t find them!

Fusion Photography

Throwing rice Showering the new bride and groom with rice was a tradition started in Asia that was considered a symbol of fertility. In Australia, this was then replaced with confetti, and now bubbles, rose petals and pot pouri are more popular.

Something old, something new The tradition of wearing ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’ is still recognised by many brides. Something old represents the bride’s family ties and her life before marriage, while something new represents the new life she is entering. Something borrowed represents the importance of

family and friends, while something blue represents their faithfulness to each other and their union. Brides often choose jewellery to symbolise ‘something old’; their wedding gown for ‘something new’; often a handkerchief for ‘something borrowed’, and ‘something blue’ is often a garter with blue ribbon or sapphire or turquoise jewellery.

The luck of the chimneysweep The luck of the chimneysweep is a superstition from England and involves an authentic chimneysweep kissing the bride on her wedding day. The kiss is supposed to impart luck, ensuring the marriage is a happy and prosperous one. If you just happen to see a chimneysweep on your wedding day, that is definitely considered good luck! Eddison Photographic Studios

The honeymoon

The custom of a honeymoon is said to have similar origins. One month of seclusion was considered enough time for the bride’s kin to call off the search for her. Though another theory for the word ‘honeymoon’ originated in ancient Egypt where the bride’s father gave the groom a full pot of honey in honour of the union. The ceremony always took place on a full moon, hence the word ‘honeymoon’.
