Vol. 1 Issue 3
Welcome to our third issue! We are thriving, have expanded to 18 countries! We are very excited with the response we have had. I am also finding that there are many companies out in the world that need a voice; either because they are up and coming, or they have a brand in a niche market, or they want to keep their advertising within modest realms. Know that our magazine will always have positive subjects, learning articles, and fashions that are true. We are based out of Memphis TN, USA; however, we reach the entire world. We may have a few more of our contributing authors that come from the Memphis area, however, that doesn’t mean that you can’t submit an article. On this page we will also have an area specific piece of artwork. Most of these artists may be from the Memphis area. With the Mississippi River, Graceland, and numerous other beautiful places, we have many local artists that have great work. We have three columnists now. Stacey Starks, California USA, will have an article each month on budgeting that can translate to budgets all over the world. Debra Norwood, Tennessee USA, will have a column each month on laughter (you won’t want to miss these!). Kally Efros, Arizona USA, will have an article each month on holistic and herbal wellness. Other columns that you can look forward to are Life Image-a monthly goal setting article complete with a printable page for you to use over and over; Cool Skin Tones/Warm Skin Tones-clothing and makeup set up for who wears it best; Great Finds-editor’s choice of great finds, can be clothing, makeup, skin care, household items; and Fashion Academy Endorsements-these are the products that have been tested by our consultants and found to be items with fantastic quality (a fee has been paid for the endorsement process, however, not for the endorsement, for the testing for every 10 that apply for an endorsement, 1 doesn’t get the endorsement). Parents DO Understand
By Stacey Starks
THERE WAS A SONG MANY YEARS AGO TITLED, “PARENTS JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND”, FROM THE FRESH PRINCE HIMSELF, WILL SMITH. For many of us teenagers at that time it was our anthem, and probably still rings
true for many teenagers now, and in the many years to come. But the funny thing is, as we grow older, we are often struck with the truth, that yes, our parents DID understand. Tough love is just that, tough, and as a young, growing, immature kid, we can’t possibly fathom that our parents were once our age and learned a thing or two along the way. With that said, I wanted to share with you a valuable learning lesson my sweet mom taught me. I don’t think she knew at the time how it would stick with me and help mold me to what I’ve become today. It started in Junior High, I remember like it was yesterday. I was standing by the sliding glass window crying softly to myself, feeling sorry for myself, really, when my mom asked me what was wrong. I whined to her about not having a different pair of Levi’s to wear to school every day. (Levi’s were THE jeans in my day…am I giving away my age at this point?). Mind you, I wasn’t in need for anything. I didn’t have to wear hand-medowns and I wasn’t wearing clothes with holes in them or even too-small shirts. No, I just wanted what everyone else had – a new outfit every day of every month. (Damn the peer pressure!). It was then, my wise mother said to me, “Honey, most of the people out there that you see driving really nice cars or wearing designer clothes all the time can’t afford it. They’re living outside of their means, on credit, and you don’t want to do that. Trust me, you will understand when you’re older.” I never forgot that and it shocks my mom it stuck with me to this day. It really resonated when I embarked on my own away from the safety and shelter of home. Although in the early years I did get into some credit card debt, my mother’s words came back to haunt me. I realized first-hand how hard it was to pay off credit card balances when the interest kept the balance at a steady growth. I had to learn by doing, and yes, MOM WAS RIGHT! It is humbling to live within one’s means, but oh so worth it! Not carrying a credit Budget Smart Plan.com card balance is like walking your monkey on a leash instead 23642 Lyons Ave. #221283 of hauling that heavy monkey weight on your back! Great Finds!
By Carolyn Bendall cbendall@fashionacademy.biz Compression socks, I know, not glamorous. However, on long rides or plane trips one’s legs do start to ache a bit, and no one likes swollen ankles. Soxxy is a new company that has designed a great line of fun compression socks. These socks are for those with circulation problems, or those that want to be able to walk after a long flight. To test them out I wore them while at the computer all day. At the end of the day, my ankles were not swollen and I didn’t lie on the floor with my feet up on the couch (my usual evening ritual after a day sitting or on my feet). Yes, I am taking them on our road trip later this summer! http://soxxy.com/shop-soxxy/socks/compression-socks.html
Oh, it’s summer. OH, whose idea was it to make booty shorts? It was a bad idea and they need to stop. First a brief lesson in being hot (as in temperature), you need only expose your five heat points on your body to cool off: the top of your head, both wrists, and both ankles. There, booty shorts do not, I repeat, do not help you cool off. I was very frustrated trying to find shorts that came to my knees, or better, just below my knees (more like capris). My daughter said, “Mom, everyone goes to Kohl’s to get those!” So, I looked at my husband and said, “Kohl’s, now.” I walked out with one pair of shorts on (paid for) and one pair in the bag. That was last year. I’ve been back to Kohl’s already to get another pair. Kohl’s is definitely the place to find these hard to find items. www.kohls.com

I know I have already featured pants from the Bryn Walker collection, but, I have to do it again. I just have to. They are so amazingly comfortable, and airy for the humidity of the Southern United States, that I know there are people out there that need to get these pants! The flat front pant from Bryn Walker, available at Dillards.com (in case you do not have a Dillards near you) or at a BrynWalker.com you can find a flagship store or a boutique near you. These pants are lightweight linen, and throw then in the washer, then the dryer, then on your body. It really is that easy. I have them in black, and would NEVER think of getting them in white, but if you are slim and never spill anything ever, go for it. These pants are well worth the cost, and for a pair of designer pants, they are a good price.
There is a product out there that replaces all of your throw away cleaning materials. It also replaces your cleaning chemicals. That just took me for a loop. You do not need your furniture polish, you just need this cloth. I must admit, I missed the lemony smell after dusting; however, I didn’t miss adding several days on to when I would need to dust again. The Norwex products have magic in them. That’s the best way to describe it magic. Use it wet or dry, no cleaning products, just water. I Know!! You are amazed, right? Well, you will be even more amazed when those microfiber cloths clean up like no plain cloth you have ever seen! Just think, that many fewer chemicals in your home causing watery eyes, allergy attacks, and harsh smells. You have to know someone that sells Norwex to make a purchase, but it is well worth the extra steps to make that happen. www.norwex.com
I love unique jewelry pieces. I love Boyer NY. The necklaces have a fish hook clasp. I like this clasp so much better than the lobster claw. They also have a wide range of clip earrings. I really, really like that. Those of us that lacks the courage to have someone stick an object in our ear lobe to create a hole are left without any options for cute earrings, 99% of the time. The quality is exceptional for this line of jewelry. It is a small company, so attention to detail is still very strong. Check them out! www.boyerny.com

THE THERAPEUTIC POWER OF A DUCHENNE SMILE
“1… 2… 3… CHEESE!”
By Debra Norwood
IF YOU’RE LIKE MOST OF THE WESTERN WORLD, THIS CUE PROMPTS YOU TO TURN UP THE CORNERS OF YOUR MOUTH, “SMILING FOR THE CAMERA.” However, this smile says little about our actual feelings or happiness and more about our cultural tendency to “fake it” for memory purposes. But what’s the real difference, other than some abstract difference in feeling and emotion? The difference between an artificial smile and a genuine emotion-driven smile was discovered by French physician Duchenne de Boulogne. While studying the physiology of facial expressions in the mid-19th century, Duchenne discerned two very different types of smiles. The first involves only the zygomatic major muscle, raising the corners of the mouth. This smile is a nonDuchenne smile and reflects only the desire to be or look happy.
The second smile uses the zygomatic major muscle, as well as the orbicularis oculi muscle around the eyes, raising both the corners of the mouth, as well as raising the cheeks and forming crow’s feet around the eyes. You guessed it! This is the genuine smile, the later-named Duchenne smile.

Pop Quiz Let’s take a quick quiz to test what we’ve learned so far! Which is the genuine smile? In other words, in which picture does celebrity chef and host Rachael Ray look genuinely happy, rather than just flashing a smile for the camera? That’s right: picture A is the Duchenne, genuine smile. Notice how the eyes crinkle, and the smile is guided by the drawing up of the cheeks and corners of the mouth, rather than the grimace, or simple flashing of the teeth in picture B. So how is the Duchenne smile related to therapeutic laughter? The Power of a Duchenne Smile During his studies, Duchenne stumbled upon the amazing power of genuine smiles, often found between mothers and newborns or two people genuinely happy in love. These smiles produce feelings of wellbeing and trigger empathy. In fact, these genuine smiles serve as “windows to the future”–as predictors of the smiler’s longevity. Those found smiling genuinely in yearbook photos in the 1950s were interviewed thirty years later and showed a greater predisposition to health, leading to some early studies linking happiness and longer lives. Learning to smile even through difficult times helps the body perceive challenges differently. Debra Norwood of Laughter Lawyer USA uses an interesting practice to help people who are ill or under stress to trigger their brains into feeling the emotions of wellbeing, inducing a relaxed state or state of heightened self-awareness. She knows that there is no value in telling someone, “Smile! You’ll feel better!” Like so many wellintentioned people do. Instead, she treats the person with respect, recognizing that maybe a laugh

or social smile is not appropriate, yet they can sustain a grimace for at least a minute. The results are outstanding. The brain accepts the sensory input as genuine, and there’s a nervous system response that helps improve mood slightly. The cognitive side also starts laughing at how ridiculous the fake smiling is... in turn creating a real smile! At the very least, it breaks the ice among strangers and produces a sense of camaraderie. Indeed, for stroke victims whose faces have been paralyzed on one side, using a straw or pencil gripped between the teeth may give much-needed neural memory triggers to recreate the emotions found in a smile. But is this a fake-it-till-you-make-it approach to feeling better? As a facilitator for an addiction recovery group, Debra believes instead that it’s what they call a “ziff”–acting “as if”, until you achieve the desired result. In other words, genuinely working on achieving a Duchenne smile, not just through the act of smiling, but also by interacting with others in a loving and genuine way, can have powerful results!

LEAVE WORK AT WORK. WHEN YOU COME HOME, YOUR DAY ENDS. If you work
from home, choose a time that your work day ends. At that time, no more emails, no more phone calls or texts.
I heard a story once about a man that would reach up to the tree in his front yard with a branch that hung over the walkway to his front door and he would brush his hand against that branch. Asked once why he did that, he responded. That is when I release all of what happened at work, I put it all on that branch so that I don’t take it into my home and to my family. It makes for a much happier home life, and work life. Another lady counseled the women gathered at her table at a women’s event at church, “My day ends when he walks in the door. If there is a load of laundry on the couch, it stays there until he leaves for work the next day. This women’s work is never done stuff is for the birds.” Granted, she was talking to Mom’s that were home with preschoolers all day. However, a woman that works outside of the home can set a time line, and when that time comes, housework ends. And, the entire family should be involved in that time line of work. Making time for family togetherness is imperative. And, sometimes that togetherness is found in doing work together to create a beautiful home. Balancing work, family, and fun is sometimes a difficult juggling act. Dallin H. Oaks, a lawyer, author, former President of BYU, and current church authority, falls back on a childhood memory to help with the juggling, “A childhood experience introduced me to the idea that some choices are good but others are better. I lived for two years on a farm. We rarely went to town. Our Christmas shopping was done in the Sears, Roebuck catalog. I spent hours poring over its pages. For the rural families of that day, catalog pages were like the shopping mall or the Internet of our time. “Something about some displays of merchandise in the catalog fixed itself in my mind. There were three degrees of quality: good, better, and best. For example, some men’s shoes were labeled good ($1.84), some better ($2.98), and some best ($3.45).1 “As we consider various choices, we should remember that it is not enough that something is good. Other choices are better, and still others are best. Even though a particular choice is more costly, its far greater value may make it the best choice of all. “Consider how we use our time in the choices we make in viewing television, playing video games, surfing the Internet, or reading books or magazines. Of course it is good to view wholesome entertainment or to obtain interesting information. But not everything of that sort is worth the portion of our life we give to obtain it. Some things are better, and others are best.”2 1. Sears, Roebuck and Co. catalog, Fall and Winter 1944–45, 316E. 2. https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2007/10/good-better-best?lang=eng

Wellness: Wedding Food
By Kally Efros
FOOD AND DRINK CAN MAKE UP A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF WEDDING COSTS. THIS IS YOUR SPECIAL DAY AND YOU WANT EVERYTHING TO BE PERFECT. YOU WANT THE MENU TO BE MEMORABLE, BUT LET’S NOT OVERSHADOW THE REASON FOR THE GATHERING. Here’s a sure way to impress your guests. Move beyond the chicken or fish choices and give them some healthy, creative items. Don’t limit yourself to one main dish. Not every wedding needs a sit down meal. And many brides and grooms are eating healthier these days with guests that have food issues. Samplers and finger foods are the trend, so let’s look at some of the hottest, healthiest wedding dishes that won’t make the bride blush. Let’s start with the water. What? Yes, I said water. You can’t get much healthier than water as your beverage of choice. Take it up a notch and infuse it with some delicious seasonal and local fruits, vegetables, flowers and spices. Infused water can serve as a decoration in addition to a deliciously cool beverage. Stock the tables with pitchers loaded with a personalized concoction that matches your color scheme. Infused water is quite the trend these days and there are personal water bottles and serving pitchers made just for infused water. Plus it is way cheaper than alcohol. Just to get your creative juices flowing, here’s some ideas: • • • • • • •
Pineapple Mint with cucumber and cucumber by itself Blueberry Mint with Lemon Raspberry Lime Cinnamon Apple Lavender Flowers Citrus Splash with slices of orange, lemon and lime Fresh Homemade Lemonade With Mint And Raspberries
The options are unlimited. You can even go one step further and include fruit ice cubes with blueberries, mint, strawberry slices. Again, the sky is the limit!

Fruit slushes are a good way to cool down a summer wedding and watermelon slush makes a delicious drink. For your main meal, talk to your caterer about some healthy options. It is a good idea to keep in mind guests that may be gluten intolerant or are vegetarians. Offer options and let your guests know about those options. Provide a way for your food sensitive guests to find out what is being served so they can make healthy food choices and avoid a problem food. A salad bar can be dressed up to be more than your average salad. Kally Efros is a Traditional Naturopath, is a Certified LifeLine Practioner, is Certified in Touch For Health, and has a degree in Natural Medicine. She is the mother of 7 children. Coming Full Circle
By Alexandria Jezina
THERE'S THE PHRASE: “EVERYTHING COMES FULL CIRCLE. Yet, when you think about it what does the saying really mean? Hopefully, the phrase brings something else to mind other than Disney-animated movies or degrees and algebraic equations. In my mind I think the phrase implies to fully complete a task. Yet, at the same time I imagine it meaning to start out on a quest only to end back up where one once started. How do two images with such extreme opposite connotations appear in my mind? Images of success and failure float into my idea of coming full circle. Close your eyes and count to three. One...two...what do you see? So why am I bringing up the term? Today while cleaning I found a list of New Year's resolutions from this year. As I scanned the list and checked through it, to my surprise I had already completed all the tasks and gone beyond. I thought to myself, "I had come full circle". I had started out with a list of goals and unknowingly come back to the same list where I began, fulfilled and complete. Today not only did I discover a list that I honestly did not look at once since creating, but a revelation. Just because at times you return to where you once started, does not mean you're back at square one. Also for coming full circle, we may not always make that complete circle, but we all learn a little more and a little more about ourselves with each venture. My advice: take a step back from your life and think about your goals and if you're completing them. Create a game plan or at least contemplate on how you are going to fulfill your goals. Write them down. Even if you don't repeatedly look at your list of goals, writing them down will create tangible feeling of drive and determination in yourself. And remember to create goals for yourself! Goal-orientated people live with a sense of purpose. Shouldn't we all live that way? Lastly, reward yourself. Life is not a race. Take the time to enjoy your success. Be goal-driven and happy with yourself and your accomplishments.

Does Everybody Know Your Name?
By Jana Cardona
BUSINESS ?
D O YOU KNOW
PEOPLE WHO POSSESS A
PENCHANT FOR DOING WELL IN LIFE AND
E VERYTHING SEEMS TO GO THEIR WAY AND SUCCESS JUST “ FALLS IN M EANWHILE , OTHERS STRUGGLE – MAYBE YOU .
THEIR LAP ”.
Even more frustrating is that it appears they are not even more talented, or better educated. Really, they don’t even appear particularly intelligent! Logical thinking would indicate that success is linked to one’s abilities. If that is true, sometimes it doesn’t seem to add up. If it isn’t that, is there another possibility? There may be a rather simple answer. Could it be that one reason for their success lies in their ability to network – to form deep, meaningful relationships with others? When we truly understand the importance of relationships, we can begin to access hidden resources that will help us to succeed in all areas of our lives, whether it is in business, family, social, or our community. This is referred to as “building social capital”. “There is a growing body of research which indicates that social capital increases performance, relationships, and even one’s health. Individuals who network and build social capital are actually doing demonstratively better than those who do not; they are getting better jobs, better pay and faster promotions. They tend to be more influential, effective, and happier than those who are unwilling or unable to benefit from the power of social capital. Successful people know how to develop rich social capital and reap the benefits in their business, professional, and personal networks.” (Graham Southwell, Success Net, Get a Return on Your Relationships) Social capital is the accumulation of resources developed through personal and professional networks. This can include ideas, knowledge, information, opportunities, contacts, and referrals. Social capital is not built by luck, but by design. According to Wayne Baker, author of Achieving Success Through Social Capital, “Studies show that lucky people increase their chances of being in the right place at the right time by building a “spider web structure” of relationships that catch information.” Further, according to Baker, “success is social; all ingredients of success that we customarily think of as individual – talent, intelligence, education, effort, and luck – are intertwined with networks.” One key way to build social capital is through networking. Successful networking is all about building and maintaining solid personal and professional relationships.

A word of caution here: Building and using relationships for serving self is not the same. If you create networks with the sole intention of getting something, you will not succeed. Only when you are willing to contribute to others will you be building social capital. This is the universal law of reciprocity. The more we give to others without expectation or repayment, the more we are repaid in the future. People who make this a way of life reap the rewards, even though they are not purposefully or consciously seeking them. Now that we’ve learned that building social capital is important, the burning question is, “How do we build social capital in order to achieve results?” Networking is one key area where social capital is built. Networking, however, is quite often misunderstood. There is a correct mindset and effective techniques, and there are improper ones. What is your networking mindset? Does it need adjusting? Can you identify yourself as holding any of these mindsets? • • • • • • • •
Networking is easy. You just get out there and meet people, pass out and collect as many cards as you can, add them to your database and “touch” them thru email. There’s nothing you have to really learn about networking – you are either a born net- worker or you are not. Everyone knows that some of us are just natural networkers because we love meeting people. As an introvert, I really avoid networking. I am just not naturally cut out for it because I am not outgoing. I need to go to as many events as possible so I don’t miss an opportunity to meet a potential customer, and maybe come back with a closed deal. I don’t want to go anywhere where my competitors might show up. As a “one man/woman show” or a small business owner, I really can’t take the extra time to attend events because when I am not in front of clients, I am not making money. As a “one man/woman show”, I don’t have time to study anything but my product or service. After all, that is what creates my income.
If you identify with any of these beliefs, you are in need of a mindset adjustment, or possibly a complete mindset overhaul. How do we build a business based on human relations?

Human beings are internally wired to need relationships. Some understand this need more than others, but whether you agree with it or not, we are more successful when we interact through relationships. Many of us think relationships just happen. They don’t. The really rewarding ones are built over time, with effort. Time and work are two words we do not like to entertain. I don’t find many people with extra time on their hands, do you? Also, how many people feel overworked? Did you raise your hand? So, approaching us with one more thing to do that takes time and effort (work) causes us to run the other way.
Jana Cardona is a networking coach, trainer, speaker and workshop presenter. Through her trainings you will learn effective techniques to build profitable relationships that build social capital and lead to referral business. Some of her specialties include writing a solid referral marketing plan, identifying your ideal clients and referral partners, analyzing which events to attend that are the best use of your time, creating dialogue using your language of referrals, demonstrating the right body language, implementing effective conversational skills, reading and working a room, building relationships and follow-up
J u l y 2 0 1 4 | 25
Therefore, our first step in building a relationship is allowing ourselves to undergo a “mindset adjustment” or maybe a complete “mindset overhaul”. The correct mindset is that networking is a lifestyle, not a sales tool. It is incorrect to attend events with the purpose of seeing how many clients you can bag and how many sales you can close. It is also incorrect to think that passing out and collecting lots of business cards is networking. Without at least the beginning of a relationship to go along with those cards, the likelihood of them ending up in the bottom draw of someone’s desk, or worse yet in the trash, is very high. Rather, we must develop the mindset of building relationships. “A true networker is one who constantly seeks to form new relationships and strengthen them by helping others solve problems and achieve goals.” (Truth or Delusion? By Dr. Ivan Misner) The correct mindset should be that meeting people at a networking event is merely the opportunity to lay a foundation upon which you can build future business relationships and then reap the benefits of referrals that may grow from those relationships. Networking is the start of the process. It is not the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Invest time in studying some proven techniques, and then practice them, and you will begin to see your results improve dramatically.

Life is a subject matter that you are in charge of interpreting one day at a time according to the colors you are allotted. Planning Tips
Planning a wedding requires an organized effort with focus on every detail of the event, underscored by seemingly endless phone calls & foot work. With the busy schedules that most couples have today, an alternative is a Wedding Planner. Sometimes this idea is disregarded because of the misconception that such a service is costly, but the reality is that both time and money can be saved because planners have access to a broader registry of services.
Few people have unlimited money to spend on a wedding. Most decisions are based on budgets; and choices are forced to be made accordingly. Wedding planners can dramatically extend those choices, so fewer compromises and concessions may have to be made. In addition, the numerous minute details associated with a wedding are often overlooked, but are second nature to a planner. This is their livelihood and they cannot afford to stage a day less than perfect. Most planners offer a complimentary consultation and can provide services tailored to a couples needs and budgets.

Something Olde, Something Blue: Vintage Jewelry is Never Pedestrian
By Melinda Lewis
Photo Editor Darrel Chua
FASHION IS NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE LATEST TRENDS; IT IS ABOUT INDIVIDUAL STYLE. FOR THE BRIDE HAVING HER OWN PERSONAL STYLE HELPS TO MAKE HER WEDDING DAY MEMORABLE. BUT HOW DO YOU CREATE THAT SINGULAR STYLE WITHOUT LOOKING JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER BRIDE WALKING DOWN THE AISLE? PLAIN AND SIMPLE, VINTAGE JEWELRY! Wearing vintage jewelry is never pedestrian. It assures that your adornment will stand out from the crowd. Having styled jewelry for brides, I love using vintage jewelry and accessories to create a look that is unique, personal and budget savvy. There is a plethora of quality vintage jewelry appropriate for bridal wear, but most of it cannot be found in department stores. Poor copycats of real vintage perhaps, but vintage jewelry is to be found in grandmother’s top drawer or a vintage boutique. When shopping for your vintage jewelry, there are many manufacturers who made jewelry beguiling of a bride’s attention. However, for starters and ease to find the perfect jewels, companies such as Boucher, Eisenberg, Weiss and Trifari are excellent to inquire about—all of these manufacturers made designs notable for a wedding day. Of course, if a piece catches your eye, buy what suits you regardless of the maker's mark. Traditional Rituals Many brides like to follow the tradition of the old English superstitious rhyme, "Something Olde, Something New; Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe" when determining what will be a part of her wedding day trousseau. Vintage jewelry can easily fit those criteria. Jewelry from the 1920s, late 1940s, 1950s and 1960s will yield the most styles with glittering rhinestones, the brightness of rhodium plate, and designs as beautiful as Cartier, Tiffany or Van Clef and Arpels. Pearls with ornamental clasps worn down the back or to the side also offer a unique and delicate bridal style.

A Variety of Styles Do not limit your choices to any one particular style when selecting vintage jewelry. If shopping in person, select from a variety of widths, lengths and designs to try on. Go bold! Allow yourself to be surprised. This is an exceptional opportunity to go beyond the simple pieces to the larger and grander styles of the 1960s, or perhaps the more striking architectural structure of the Deco mode. Condition When choosing a bridal jewelry assemble make sure the jewelry is sparkling and sturdy. Check rhinestones for clarity to ensure stones do not have any signs of black or darkness—commonly referred to as “dead stones.” Examine pearls or bead necklaces for stress or wear to the string or chain, and if the piece is not knotted, consider having it restrung by a professional. Look for any green coloring on the metal as this is often the “death” of a piece. This metal degradation known as verdigris can destroy the integrity of the metal or finish. How to Wear Vintage Jewelry on Your Wedding Day The modern bride often wears a bracelet, earrings, and a necklace, but vintage jewelry offers additional resources to adorn the wedding day fashion. Ear clips provide the perfect accent for bridal shoes and are

suitable as gifts for the bridesmaids. Dress clips can accent dress straps, shoes, or hair pieces. (See picture) For back décolletage, a long dramatic pearl necklace with a decorative clasp worn tightly around the neck, and cascading down the back adds beautiful sophistication. Pins or brooches also work for hair adornment or a special accent for a bridal bouquet. The Symbolism of Blue Wedding day colors evoke a lot of different meanings, from favorite colors to religious representations, and even tradition. The old-time favorite rhyme, "Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe," has been much loved by traditionalists over the past two hundred years, and brides often seek to wear blue. The color blue symbolizes purity, love and fidelity; virtues every bride wants to embody on her wedding day. Vintage jewelry from the 1950s offers a plethora of choices in all categories of vintage jewelry, especially silver-tone pieces. An earring clipped to a garter is the simplest way to carry on this tradition without much fuss. No matter the bride’s wedding style or taste, vintage jewelry offers a unique opportunity to adorn wedding attire without a cookie-cutter appearance, giving the bride all the necessary fashion-adornment accoutrements for her special day.

Wedding Budget
A budget is very important, especially if you are spending someone else's money (your parents, or possibly your fiancé’s parents). Here is a basic list of what you should put in your budget and the average percentages of what brides spend in each section. To figure out your amounts just take your total budget and times it by the percentage listed. Example: $20,000 budget, Reception Location 9%, $30,000 x 9% (or 0.09) = $2,700. So, you should spend approximately $2,700 on your reception location. Ceremony Fee 2.5% Ceremony Decorations 1.5% Reception Location 9% Reception Decorations 4.5% Food and Service 33.5% Beverages and Bartender 9% Cake and Cutting Fee 3% Wedding Gown 6.5% Veil and/or Headpiece 1% Bridal Accessories 1% Hair and Make-up 0.5% Massage, waxing, facial, etc. 0.5% Bouquets/Boutonnieres 2% Band/DJ/Orchestra 6.5% Photographer 6.5% Videographer 5.5% Invitations 4% Car/Limo Rental 1.5% Wedding Favors 1.5% Obviously, everyone will have personal preference as to what they want to spend on different things. You’ll need to go through the budget after you have calculated the amounts and figure out if you think any are too high, or too low. You can then spend accordingly! From http://www.weddingsoeasy.com

I HAVE HAD MANY BRIDES COME TO ME
WITH THE IDEA OF A DRESS THEY SAW IN A MAGAZINE OR ONE SUGGESTED BY A
RELATIVE. Often it is quick to see that the dress is not their dream. Like any great doctor or friend I listen and ask questions to gather who they really are. I dig into body image concerns and cultural background of the couple. We talk about the venue, taste in music, fashion and desserts, yes deserts! It’s the funniest thing, but women are able to be more descriptive about the gown they desire, when I introduce their favorite desert. After an in-depth consultation I begin to sketch a combination of, what the bride has described and what I believe will display her figure in the most flattering manner; then we begin to construct the gown. Many brides choose the veil as an afterthought, bad idea. I go through the same process in creating the veil as I do in designing the gown. I love the mystique and symbolism of the veil. When a bride glides down the aisle in her veil, there is an air of anticipation and excitement! Everyone wonders how will she respond when she is face to face with her soon-to-be husband, or rather how will he respond when he looks into her eyes for the first time? When the gown is complete it is a beautiful moment to present the veil as she is taking in her beauty in the gown of her dreams. Yes, the tears flow, because this is when it becomes real for most brides. A thoughtfully designed gown and veil will express a bride’s True Colors.

The Wedding Veil, a statement of glamor, beauty, tradition and design.
By Nilah & Co.
IMAGINE THE SOFT PRELUDE MUSIC PLAYING AS THE GUESTS ARRIVE. THE MUSIC CHANGES AND ALL THE ATTENTION TURNS TO THE DOORS AT THE BACK OF THE CHURCH. Enter the Grandmothers and Mothers as they are
escorted down the aisle to their seats. The music changes again and the attention is now on the bridesmaids in their colorful dresses as they walk gracefully down the aisle to meet their respective groomsmen. Then the doors close once more and the music pauses for just a moment. All eyes are waiting for the vision that is behind the door as her entrance song begins to play. The doors open, there she is, the first sight of the beautiful, blushing bride in her perfect wedding gown. The dress is stunning, her hair perfect, her jewelry sparkling in the light, but your attention is drawn to her glamorous wedding veil. Delicate pink lace frames her face and cascades around her and flows down to the end of her train. Light picks up the tiny crystals that are lightly scattered throughout the veil as she gracefully walks down the aisle towards the love of her life. She is a vision of a truly beautiful bride. However is it the dress or the veil that truly make her the blushing Bride? Our clients have told us on many occasions they have not felt like a true Bride until they put on their beautiful veil. A veil is not only a statement of glamor, beauty, tradition and design it can also be used as the brides something old. We are seeing more brides wanting to wear or incorporate their Mothers or Grandmother wedding dress or wedding veil into their special day. We have taken laces from the dresses as well as the veils and have made beautiful veils that can be passed down to future generations. A veil can define a bride more than her dress. A very traditional bride can usually be seen wearing a single layer veil with an edge of soft lace or trim. However we are seeing more and more brides adding more drama and originality to their special day but not with their dress. They are adding the drama and their own originality with the type of veils they choose to wear. How do they add the drama and their own originality you may ask? Brides are

changing the trims from soft ivory and white laces to stunning Gold, Pink and Gold, or Silver and Gold French Chantilly laces, and antique silver metallic Spanish laces. Others are opting for gold or silver tulle and colorful crystals instead of thetraditional whites and ivory tulles and clear crystals. For the Bride who wanted the real drama, she has added fur trim to their lace veils, used laces with feathers or has added tiers or puffs for the full dramatic effect. The Bride who wants the elegance of the long veil cascading behind them but either doesn’t want to wear a veil or their hair style just won’t work with wearing a veil opt for our vintage inspired non-veil veil. The antique silver Spanish lace softly cascades over the Brides shoulders as the lace and tulle flows behind her with a short train. The multicultural bride who wants to incorporate both cultures
into her special day, who is still wearing her traditional white wedding dress, can add color and originality to her look by adding a wide gold lace with color crystals on ivory tulle or opting for silver or gold tulle veil with colored crystals and lace. The non-traditional bride, who wants to do something different, have been seen wearing lace trimmed hooded veils that can be wore with the hood up or over the shoulders for a cape look. We have also seen non-traditional birdcage veils made with ostrich feathers for the dramatic look. Let the only drama you have on your wedding day be the Drama of the exquisite veil you are wearing. A Guide to Hair Highlights
By Marco Pelusi
Have you been feeling like your hair color is a bit dull lately? Not enough spark? Or is the hair color growing out too fast? Are the ends of the hair darker than the roots? Or just needing to blend away some unwanted gray hair? Whenever I run a few highlights through just about anyone’s color – man or woman – he or she will usually feel better about most of these scenarios!

IT’S ALL ABOUT FEELING GOOD. IN THE END, ISN’T THAT WHAT WE ALL WANT? Guys and gals BOTH are getting
highlights placed throughout their hair in order to brighten up their hair color especially during the spring and summer months – and that’s what it’s really about – a simple BRIGHTENING of the color – it doesn’t even have to be too far from the natural color. As a matter of fact, going drastically lighter than your natural or base color is not recommended – because then the opposite happens – and you will look washed out. Many of you might stray to the grocery store and attempt to do highlights on your own and place color directly on your scalp – the problem is the unwanted orange or ‘brassy’ tones that usually result from a home hair color. Ask your hairstylist to ‘glam’ you with some natural looking highlights – maybe 2-4 levels lighter than the natural hair color. If you’re a dark blonde, your hairstylist can strategically place slightly lighter blonde highlights throughout your hair, keeping the blondes within the skin tones. Cool dark blonde can go to platinum for a highlight; warm golden skin tones with dark warm blonde cannot go too blonde; warm orange skin tones will keep a strawberry hint in their highlight; and warm tawny skin tones will not naturally have lighter blonde, so a copper over their dark ash to light brown. If you’re a brunette, then ask for honey or caramel tones – simply lighter brown or very dark blonde highlights. Even a redhead hair color can dull

with age, so ask to infuse some natural looking strawberry or dark blonde highlights placed throughout to zip up the color. Placement of the highlights is very important, if not crucial, to your end result. Your hairstylist should not place highlights at the back of the neck. No one has lighter hair at the back of the neck. Natural hair lightens easily on the top of the head at this time of the year, especially on kids and who spend more time outside. So ask for a partial highlights, many women don’t need a full head of highlights in order to accomplish the objective. What I recommend is simply a partial, top and sides of your hair only. It’s more natural for the nape of the neck to be darker – just like natural hair. If you have some gray hair, highlights can be a great solution! Almost anyone in the country male or female, who has any shade of brown or dark blonde hair, with a percentage of gray hair, will be an eye catcher with a few highlights. An overall color laid directly on the scalp can definitely cover all the gray hair, but you are left with the regrowth in no less than four to six weeks and be forced to do it again right away, or you will see the line of demarcation quickly. With a partial highlighting, you can possibly extend the life of your hair color up to a few months perhaps, depending of course on the percentage of gray, and hopefully, if you keep the highlights not too much lighter than your natural or base color. The line of demarcation blends away with some highlighting. The gray hair blends in with the highlights. A naturally dark blonde haired person is the luckiest of all, because highlights are a smart way to go rather than having to use a color lay directly on the scalp. The Consultation The consultation is truly the most important step when you are receiving any hair color service. Challenge your hairstylist to determine which tone will suit and flatter your skin and eyes and wardrobe and makeup. Do your homework, know what colors will suit you best. If you’re very pale, you may look best with cooler color highlights. If you have freckles and are tan, you may look best with warmer highlights. You can discuss this with your hair colorist. The consultation should be built in as part of the service. You also need to make sure that you take care of your new color and use products specifically formulated to prevent premature color fade and create the most positive, therapeutic environment for the hair and scalp. I feel so passionate about hair color, that I created the Marco® Collagen Color Guard™ HairCare System the first and only complete collagen system for color and chemically treated hair.

Childhood Obesity
by Sam May
THINK BACK TO WHAT THINGS WERE LIKE IN THE 70’S AND EARLY 80’S…EVEN IF YOU WEREN’T ALIVE BACK THEN, I AM SURE YOU HAVE HEARD STORIES. Kids played outside from sun up to sun down. Families ate together at home. Going out to eat was a real treat. As a child, you ate what your parents fixed, or you didn’t eat. Now kids don’t have time to play outside because they are busy on their computer, phone or game system. Most families don’t eat together very often; unless you count going through a drive through place. People eat out more than they do at home. And to top it off most food we eat today isn’t real food now. Chemicals and GMO’s are more of our diet than we’d like to know. All of these factors play into the reasons I believe that there is an obesity issue in America and in the world. Did you know that most kids that are bullied are bullied because of their weight? If you go to Google and type childhood and let the auto-fill do the rest; obesity is the first thing that comes up. It is a real issue but don’t just take my word for it. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website says: • Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years.1, 2 • The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese

increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to nearly 21% over the same period.1, 2 • In 2012, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese.1 • Overweight is defined as having excess body weight for a particular height from fat, muscle, bone, water, or a combination of these factors.3 Obesity is defined as having excess bbody fat.4 • Overweight and obesity are the result of “caloric imbalance”—too few calories expended for the amount of calories consumed—and are affected by various genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors.5, 6

It looks pretty bleak when you look at these numbers but there is a solution. It starts with education and the parents making the decision to not let this continue. A few months ago I learned of the Project 10 Challenge. It helps people take their healthy back 10 pounds at a time and helps children that need to do the same. You can watch the Project 10 Kids video at http://www.ArrowsOutConsulting.com – and if you want more information fill out the contact form provided.

TIPS FOR SMART PACKING THIS SUMMER
By Violeta Vasilopoulou
SUMMER IS
TRADITIONALLY THE SEASON MOST PEOPLE TAKE A VACATION.
Some choose an exotic destination, others take a trip overseas to visit the city of love or the internal city and others take family road trips. Whatever type of vacation you are planning in the near future one thing is for sure you have to pack smartly! Most of us promise ourselves that this will be the year that we won’t over pack or forget something important at home and realise it a bit too late. So to help you this summer to pack like pros, I have got some excellent packing tips to help you pack light and efficiently! 1. Plan Ahead One of the best packing tips I can give you is to plan ahead. Find out what sort of amenities you’ll have at your hotel, motel or rented house. Will you have access to an iron, blow dryer, beach towels, etc.? Will you have to pack some large items, toiletries or are you good to go with just clothes and accessories? Figure out what you will need to pack, in addition to your daily essentials. This will help you choose the right luggage size and avoid unpleasant surprises. Also, don’t forget to check the weather of the destination you will be visiting, so you can pack accordingly and avoid bringing unnecessary stuff along. 2. Plan & Rotate your Outfits When you are packing your suitcase, try to plan your outfits and keep in mind to rotate some of your clothes to save space and pack light. Items like jeans, skirts and of course shoes can be rotated easily. Also, while planning your outfits try to pick pieces that you can wear from day to night by adjusting your accessories. 3. Choose Your Colour Palette

Tips for Packing (Continued)

Vol. 1 Issue 3
The key to packing light is to bring pieces that can be mixed and matched. A set of basics in black or neutral colours is a good place to start and then you can add colour with your accessories to mix things up! The basic pieces you can’t go wrong with include: a pair of skinny jeans in blue or black, light-weight cardigans and tank tops, a light to mid-weight trench, two little black dresses (one casual, one formal) and a white cotton button-down shirt. Depending on where you are travelling, you can pack an additional outer layer, a pair of shorts, or another dress. And if you are heading to an exotic destination or planning to spend your days by the beach or hotel pool, don’t forget your swimsuit, cover ups and hat! 4. Roll It up Don’t forget the popular packing tip of rolling your clothes. By rolling your clothes instead of folding them, you make more room in your suitcase and also you avoid having your clothes getting wrinkled. When you are packing your suitcase, make sure that you place the heaviest layers of rolled clothes on the bottom and then add the lighter rolled clothes on the top. 5. Packing your Shoes Are you sure you will be able to wear those platforms on the cobblestones of Rome? Probably not. If you want to avoid packing the wrong pairs of shoes try having realistic expectations and keeping in mind that you will probably walk for a while every day during your trip and you do not want blisters and shore feet to ruin all the fun. Avoid packing new shoes and pick your trusted ones that you know will keep your feet comfortable. Ballet flats are easy to pack, stylish and comfortable for walking around. If you insist on packing a high-heeled pair, pick a heel with a platform that it isn’t too high and you can easily walk in. 6. Precious Cargo If you are taking along fragile items like your laptop, your tablet, your DSLR or precious and expensive designer piece of clothing and jewellery, be sure to pack those items in your carry-on. You want to avoid unpleasant surprises such as having them stolen from your suitcase. Make sure your carry-on is easy to carry and fully functional, as well. 7. Make sure you don’t forget them Before you head out the door make sure you haven’t forgotten your cell phone, laptop or DSLR. You will be very sad if you find out you left them home. Also, bring extra batteries for your camera and your cell phone, laptop chargers. Make sure to pack your prescription glasses, sunglasses and contact lenses. It’s not like you can quickly run into a store and grab a new pair. Last but not least make sure you have at all times your retainers, acne regimes, or any other medical routines you need to apply and of course your

prescription medications. Packing for your trip does not have to give you a headache. Try to pack in your suitcase only the things you really need so you can travel as light as possible and also keep space in your suitcase for shopping! Happy Travels!!!

Choosing the Right Cruise Line is Key to Successful Multi-Generational Vacations
By Mel Fabrikant
Cruise Holidays Reveals Top Tips for Organizing a Cruise for Families that Span Generations
RESPONDING TO THE GROWING DEMAND FOR MULTI-GENERATIONAL CRUISING, TRAVEL AGENTS FROM CRUISE HOLIDAYS INTERNATIONAL ARE SHARING THEIR TOP TIPS FOR PLANNING SUCH A CRUISE EXPERIENCE FOR EXTENDED FAMILIES – THE TIPS WERE GATHERED THROUGH THE 2014 CRUISE TRENDS SURVEY.*
The number one piece of advice is to select a cruise line that has something to delight and appeal to every family member of every age. Based on their expertise, Cruise Holidays travel agents routinely counsel their clients on the crucial nuances, not only among myriad cruise lines, but also among the specific ships within each individual fleet. Cruise Holidays’ survey data indicates that multi-generational cruising presents some unique challenges for consumers unless they use a travel agent. “Assuming there is at least one grandparent traveling with one grandchild – and often times many more family members are traveling together – the cruise ship needs to provide wide-ranging activities, entertainment and resources for passengers who could be as much as eight or nine decades apart,” said Kevin Weisner, Senior Vice President, Cruise Holidays International. “Tapping into the experience of a cruise professional to understand what a young child wants and needs on a cruise – as well as what an 85-year old great grandmother needs – is paramount.” Here are the Top Five Tips for multi-generational cruisers, according to Cruise Holidays International

travel agents: 1. Choose a cruise ship that has something for everyone: 30.0% Certain cruise lines have responded to the demand from multigenerational families by crafting experiences for all ages. On the right cruise ship, children and teens will be busy from morning until night with pools, water slides, complimentary kids clubs, character “meet and greets” with pop culture icons from the big and small screen, coloring and drawing contests, mini golf, and more. Plus, the cruise lines haven’t forgotten that parents need their space, too, with adults-only zones and quiet pool areas. “It’s important to note that even if the parents or grandparents have been loyal to one cruise line for their traditional ‘couples’ getaway, that cruise line may not be appropriate for the vast age differences presented by multigenerational travel. The proper, or improper, cruise line selection can make or break the vacation, which is why it’s important that consumers work with an expert from the very beginning,” said Weisner. “Several ships, which appeal to the entire family because of their wide variety of activities and entertainment options, are also fitted out with limited-access suite complexes; these provide the luxury, privacy and exclusivity that the seasoned cruisers in the family have come to expect. They are like a ‘ship-within-a-ship’ featuring private courtyards, pools, lounges, restaurants and even butlers.” 2. Plan ahead: 25%

RANK TIPS FOR CHOOSING A CRUISE

3. Secure staterooms as close as possible 4. Carefully plan dining options
5. (Tie) Aim for quality – the best your family can afford 5. (Tie) Communicate clearly with rest of family
There are several reasons agents made this recommendation – first and foremost to make sure that everyone in the family saves the dates on their calendars. Timing is also of utmost importance to ensure the group receives its top choice in staterooms, especially if they desire adjoining staterooms or a family suite, since these are generally the first to sell out on a cruise. Suites can include bathtubs for the little ones, privacy dividers, multiple bedrooms and other special features to make traveling as a group more enjoyable and convenient. Cruise Holidays agents keep a close eye on when new itineraries become available, and often secure their clients’ places on those cruises as soon as they are available – sometimes more than a year in advance. “That is one of the top reasons to have an existing relationship with a travel agent – when the time comes to jump on the perfect cruise ship and stateroom, they already know what you want and can ensure you don’t miss out,” said Weisner. “Plus, thanks to our longstanding relationships with cruise lines, we can offer provide even further value including possible cabin upgrades and other amenities.”

3. Secure staterooms as close as possible: 12% Some of the cruise ships that are most popular with families are also the largest at sea, holding well over 3,000 passengers. If the client is not reserving a family suite, it’s much easier for family members to gather together if their staterooms are in close proximity to one another. Also, adjoining staterooms are a great option, but again, because they represent a subset of total inventory, they sell out quickly and typically well before the ship is full. 4. Carefully plan dining options: 5% Most cruise lines offer early and a late dining options in the main dining room, to which passengers are assigned prior to cruising. The early dining option often fills up first. With that knowledge, Cruise Holidays’ agents recommend putting in a request for early dining as soon as possible, so that children can get to bed on time. Grandparents may also find the early dining option to be preferable. 5 (tie). Aim for quality – the best your family can afford: 3.8% Cruise Holidays agents advise that families are often pleasantly surprised to learn about the many things that are included in the base price of a cruise – meals, accommodations, entertainment and more. “The investment cruise lines are making in new ships is huge – a total capital investment of approximately $8 billion in 2014 and 2015 – so the demand is there and first-time cruiser satisfaction is off the charts. Cruisers can feel confident knowing that they will get the most value for their dollar,” said Weisner. 5 (tie). Communicate clearly with the entire family: 3.8% Before the trip, it may be helpful for one family member to serve as the liaison between those traveling and the travel agent. “While many family reunions often place a huge burden on the organizer to arrange activities, dining, and lodging, this is all provided for you on the cruise, so no one in the family gets stuck with all the hard work,” said Weisner. Onboard, communicate expectations for how much time you plan to spend together – and acknowledge it’s acceptable to spend some time apart. “Dinner together as a group can be a great way to share stories about everyone’s favorite moment of the day as well as plan for the next day.”

Self-Tanning VS the Real Sun By Stacy Broff
FAKE AND BAKE OR NOT TO FAKE AND BAKE? Whatever your personal preference is you should take
precautions either way. Americans are becoming more and more educated on the subject of basking in the real sun as oppose to finding the perfect self-tanner. In the beginning there were not a lot of choices. You went to the tanning salon; usually the ones with the beds or you grabbed a self-tanning lotion at your local drugstore. Today the options are endless. It seems like the obvious choice would be to shy away from the real sun because its UV rays can cause serious skin damage; whether it’s a bad burn, discoloration, and the biggest enemy, skin cancer! However you can enjoy the outdoors safely by using high-level sun-screens, zincs, wear a hat, rash guard, or take shade under an umbrella. What’s your pleasure? Sunning, au natural will definitely stockimages give you great color. If you’re a very fair skinned person, already have skin issues in general or have had skin cancer at an early age, hours in the real sun, even with the best protection is probably not the best idea. Self-tanning; it’s great, less time consuming and for the most part much safer verses the real sun. Although self-tanners are a dime a dozen it doesn’t mean they’re all good or safe. It’s important to research brand names, ingredients and reviews. In regards to tanning beds, “Recognizing exposure to the rays as an ‘insult,’ the skin acts in self-defense by producing more melanin, a pigment that darkens the skin. Over time, this damage will lead to prematurely aged skin and, in some cases, skin cancer.”(Sharon Miller, M.S.E.E., a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) scientist and international expert on UV radiation and tanning.) Sitting in a capsule like machine for 15-30 minutes can feel claustrophobic for many people. As much as it’d be nice to have an eco-friendly self -tanner, that’s impossible. There has to be some chemical substance to change the skin color. You want the best selftanner to give you a natural, healthy looking glow. Judging from the orange, drippy, wet look your friend has from her recent spray tan, you’re likely to rule that option out. Real or faux your tan should suit you as if you were picking out the appropriate foundation, or cover up. Another concern when it comes to sunless tanning is the smell. The “best of” self-tanners should have very little to no scent at all. They should last at least 5 days, require a simple application process (in J u l y 2 0 1 4 | 87

regards to a DIY product) and they shouldn’t stain your clothing or your sheets. It may take several products, and several tries but once you’ve done your research and explored your options and found the right product it’s all about following instructions to achieve the most even and perfect tan whether it’s a lotion, mousse, or spray. The best ones result in a more natural look, and shouldn’t have to be applied more than every 5-7 days. Small bottled tanning products: Brands like Neutrogena, Clarins, and St. Tropez Self-Tanning Essentials are some of the most common brands that offer a variety of lotions, mousses, and sprays. All are reasonably priced and will do the job. In Home DIY/Spa Like Tanners The Patented Tropic Spa Home Mist Tanning System is one of the easiest and most natural devices of its kind. It’s designed to build your personal color. You can’t over expose yourself. You mist every 5-7 days. There’s minimal to no over spray and in 12 seconds you’re done and within a few hours the color gradually appears. The Tropic Spa's mist solution contains a blend of DHA, skin moisturizers and conditioners. DHA [Dihydroxyacetone] is FDA approved for use in the cosmetics industry. These are just a few of its unique features. The unit comes complete with 10 tans and at $300 it’s a fabulous and safe alternative to the real sun. A 10 tan refill cost just $100.00. Other home spray systems may require a buddy’s help or be way out of your budget. Million Dollar Tan costs $799. No matter what route you choose, choose wisely, do your homework and always use SPF when outdoors.

The way aesthetic image changed HER life
By Elena Derzhavets
PEOPLE WITH VARIOUS PROBLEMS OFTEN COME TO OUR AGENCY. SOME WANT TO FIND A GOOD JOB OR SAVE THE
FAMILY, OTHERS JUST NEED TO IMPRESS THE PARTNER AT THE FIRST DATE. EACH TIME TO CHANGE ONE’S IMAGE WE START WITH CHANGING THEIR INNER ORIENTATION.
I will give the most interesting example from my point of view. Once a woman client came to our office, at first sight there was no way out in her unhappy life. A young woman aged thirty had neither family, nor a good job, nor a hobby. There were only inferiority complexes and no desire. Obviously, the main cause of HER problems was loss of self-connection. She needed guiding out of HER familiar inner life and senses she had had. To let HER see herself from another point of view we resorted to usual business practice - the SWOT analysis. Most companies use it to estimate and forecast their position in the market. We employed this method to create the way of HER personal development. But while we could describe strengths and weaknesses and threats in our analysis, we were at a loss to know HER future opportunities. She saw absolutely no prospects. Here we came to the aid of AESTHETICS -the branch of philosophy that deals with the nature and expression of beauty in the fine arts and life.

Aesthetic Image (Continued)
Your True Colours
Vol. 1 Issue 3
Aesthetic image is a model of future wishful life as an ideal or dream. And any dream possesses a high degree of tension, emotionality and brightness; it makes you move and change your life. All one’s efforts to achieve an aesthetic image launch the mechanism of its incarnation. The way to HER desire, when she felt the beauty of life, was not easy. Developing HER sense of beauty and zest for life we visited museums, turned to historical characters, watched films and read magazines about aristocracy, attended exhibitions and salons. She began to compare herself with various characters and try on different images. For there are plot, composition, dynamics, style and space- time framework in the aesthetic image. The most developed images may include knowledge concerned with images of the famous people, the plots of their lives, the events of different epochs, with customs and traditions that affect the choice of behavior and lifestyle. In a while she realized her wishes… Having an accounting diploma, she studied design and architecture. It turned out that she was good at creative work; she started to paint. We entirely changed HER clothes style and haircut. She received that cheerfully for the new style agreed completely with HER inner sense. HER walk and manner of speaking had changed. We saw a selfconfident woman that was not afraid of tomorrow. She opened her own bureau of landscape and interior design. Soon one of her well-to-do clients proposed to her. On the way to a perfect image it is necessary to find an inner starting point, determine your own desires, realize an ideal way of life and create a personal aesthetic image that would show the opportunities of aims achieving.

Start Up Financing and the Importance of Your Business Plan
By Carlos Gomez
FINANCING IS A MAJOR CONCERN FOR THOSE WHO ARE STARTING UP A SMALL BUSINESS, AND WITH GOOD REASON. Capital is a vital part of any new
business venture, and banks are tight fisted when it comes to small business loans. Many an entrepreneur finds themselves scraping for whatever startup funding they can find. Startup capital can be easier to acquire, however, by following a few simple steps. That having been said, don’t run out and quit your job today just because you have a great idea for business. And don’t let your startup distract you from doing your job so that you end up getting fired. There is definitely a lot of prep work that goes into any new business. Consider three things that you want to have in order first. Three Must Haves for Your Startup Credit: Before you can leave your present job and start a new business, it is really important to have your credit in order. Credit affects everything from the ability to get a loan to your ability to get the utilities turned on at an office. Good credit can mean lower insurance premiums and it can affect your ability to acquire a mobile contract for your company. What can you do if you have poor credit? First you will have to find out what is wrong with your credit. Then you need to fix it. Sometimes that can require a helping hand and that’s one of the things that we are here to help you do. Don’t worry if a takes a few months to turn your credit around. Once you have past credit issues squared away, you are far more likely to be able to acquire the capital your business needs. Debt: Don’t pile new business debts on top of old personal debts. Get those squared away first. Your debts won’t just disappear on their own. Not if you want to maintain your credit. Talk to your creditors and see if there is any way to pay them off. This is a part of why you can’t just quit a job to start up a new business. You need the steady income to take care of past debt. Investors and lenders will frown upon giving more money to someone who already owes money. The likelihood of a loan decreases to nil if you have no income on top of the debt. I can’t tell you how many clients want to borrow enough money to

start up their business and clear their olds debts. The problem is that no investor or lender is going to be willing to do that. Lenders: If you have impeccable credit, assets to be used as collateral, or real estate that can be refinanced, then you shouldn’t have a problem finding a lender. Lenders are a short term fix for business capital. Investors need to be your endgame. What will an investor be looking for in business? Most investors want to see a product that already has a following. There are still a few gamblers out there, but not many. That means getting money from a lender to get your business to the point where it will catch the eye of an investor. There are over 500 Billionaires in the US alone, so don’t worry that there is a shortage of people who can invest in your company. Just concentrate on building a business that gets recognition. The Best Laid Plans… This is where a business plan comes into play. A strong business plan can help convince a lender who is on the fence about providing a loan to give your startup a shot. A poor business plan, on the other hand, may cause a lender to withhold a loan, even to someone with strong credit. So how do you formulate the business plan? Is it about minutiae and the providing of every little detail? Is a general business plan the better option? Hopefully, your business plan will fall somewhere between the two extremes. No lender wants to see a 10 page paper on why they should support your business. First of all, they don’t have time to read it. Second of all, a long and detailed business plan stinks of a clever trick to try and con some capital for a business that may or may not pan out. If you can’t fit everything on 2 pages, you’re trying too hard. At the same time, don’t generalize. When you talk about the industry, provide a few specific statistics to show how lucrative the industry is. When commenting on the qualifications of staff or administration,

include relevant info about credentials such as schooling or work experience. When discussing how you foresee the business doing in the community, compare how similar businesses do in similar communities. Successfully Financing a Startup Keep in mind these simple steps, and it may not be as hard as you think to get your business going. Hang on to your job until the business is truly ready to go. Take care of your credit and any debts you have first. Use a business plan to attract lenders, and spend that capital well to create a company that will catch the attention of investors. Before long, you can have all of the capital that your growing business needs to thrive. From great lessons learned while creating with the best designers from within the finest silk mill of Como, Italy, a passion for perfection was borne. Under guidance from such a powerful artisan as Giancarlo Galvani, visions of Enrico Prini, and history lessons from Michele Palladino instilled in me, is the relentless search to explore, create, and discover. A wonder filled arena that never tires. I love when ideas come to fruition and I hear a retailer say, "WOW!" When Alexander Julian will comment and say, “Your colors are great, (learned much from Alex, also), I smile. When seasons come and go so fast, you cannot catch a breath! I am relentless in capturing the next idea, find the next quality, color the next group, create a new story; leaves me breathless. And with this my label, Cristalle Laurel, arrived in a market that is said to not need another necktie vendor. What a task to accomplish! Now, working with best retailers here in the US and Japan for quality neckwear, handmade in New York, along with luxury totes, mountain packs, and the finest quality scarves tells me to keep at it! Then growing into a new area with women scarves, which sold out in first debut! It all just makes me run faster, explore further, create better, work harder, and develop even more! All of this disproves that there is no need for another vendor. I believe in quality, original color trends and designs without mass production. For the unique in all of us. If you wear it, wear it well! Now I have hopes to conquer the European market with my BKLYN label of quality contemporary neckwear and accessories.... What a journey!

She has a degree in Music Business, and worked as an intern for Sony Music publishing, South Beach Studios and Destin Songs Publishing. She started by designing a half-cami with just the right amount of coverage. She knew she had a great idea, but what to call it? Looking for a name that women call their boobs, a friend casually threw out “cupcakes”. It worked! The business was born! Her cover-ups not only serve a needed purpose, but they are comfortable and tell the world that you can be stylish, beautiful and fashionable without showing off your “cupcakes”- telling young girls that it’s still cool to be modest. The brand has grown to include the half cap sleeve, the half 3/4 sleeve and Breast feeding cover-up. In an effort to connect with women and customers all over the world, Lily created her own YouTube channel at http://youtube.com/cupcakecovertops. She combines a variety of subjects and is successful in providing information and entertaining in her own sweet style.
