THE WHITE MAGNOLIA BRIDAL COLLECTION

In 2010, Kerrie Hileman, a newly engaged accountant, found herself frustrated with the lack of wedding gown options in her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. No privacy or personal touches made wedding dress shopping more like a chore than the unique experience she hoped for. And in that moment, an idea was born – Kerrie decided to start her own bridal boutique.

Several months later, The White Magnolia opened its doors for the first time in Jacksonville. Within a few years, the store experienced tremendous growth and opened its second Florida location in Tampa. On a girl’s weekend in 2014, Kerrie met fellow accountant Mallory Thorburn through mutual friends. After detailing her own disappointing experiences shopping for a wedding dress, the two joined forces. Mallory and Kerrie became official co-owners of the business and, in the same year, opened The White Magnolia in Atlanta.

With Mallory by her side and a third store in the fold, Kerrie felt ready to grow The White Magnolia even more, confident she had the formula, tools, and experience to branch out into additional markets. The Greenville store opened in 2016, followed by Palm Beach and Savannah in 2019. Though each store has a similar overall aesthetic, they are not simple carbon copies of each other. Mallory oversees each store’s design and overall feel and strives to make each store unique to its market. Inventory is similar between stores but not identical, as Kerrie and Mallory adjust gowns and designers based on exclusivity and market research. In October 2021, the seventh White Magnolia boutique opened its doors in Franklin.

Located in historic downtown, The White Magnolia has become one of Franklin’s favorite neighbors. A cozy cottage feel with bright, open spaces invite you to experience a sentimental moment with loved ones. The sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere allows brides to feel at home in a private suite just for them to enjoy. A unique element to each store is the ninety minute bridal appointment: a personal one-onone shopping experience with a dedicated bridal stylist. The

light and airy gown room is where all bridal dreams come true, housing top designer names like Made With Love, Martina Liana, Kelly Faetanini, and so many more.

In 2023, Kerrie and Mallory launched The First Look Collection, an exclusive line of wedding gowns only available at White Magnolia boutiques. When a bride chooses The White Magnolia, they can expect not only a curated gown collection of unique silhouettes and styles but also an experience not found anywhere else.

What advice do you have for couples who are struggling to pick a photography style?

KT: Great question. I believe it’s easy to get wrapped up in the details in photographs that leave couples swooning over gowns, shoes and venue. They get visually entertained by the things versus the style of the photography. With that observation, I would recommend couples look for a style that they aren’t only attracted to now but will feel proud to have as their final product in five or ten years. With editing and style trends in photography changing monthly, it’s easy for couples to get wrapped up in the now and forget their wedding photography should, in my opinion, be as timeless as their marriage.

What advice do you have for couples on their wedding day regarding photography?

KT: Your connection with your photography team is as important as the images they will create for you. I recommend finding someone you trust, feel confident having with you during intimate moments, and, most importantly, a photographer who takes the time to understand your wedding vision.

What questions should couples ask their potential wedding photographers?

KT: I believe the questions you should ask your photographer will vary greatly based on the level of talent you choose to hire for your wedding. A great rule of thumb is to adjust expectations based on the investment you are making for the person responsible for documenting all the details, emotions, portraits, chaos, and intimate moments that make up your day. If you plan to make a small investment in photography, you may have to adjust your expectations. A few things that may be important to ask are: How many team members will they bring on the day of? Does the photographer cover welcome parties, rehearsal dinners and other wedding activities? What is the expected post-processing turnaround time to receive your full wedding gallery? Is the photographer insured? What plan does your photographer have to ensure exceptional indoor

and outdoor images, and most importantly, do they have a rain plan? How do they plan to manage the day to document all moments and formalities? When selecting a wedding venue, what aspects should brides consider to ensure it complements their photography preferences? If you have more than one photographer, do they plan to split up during the wedding to cover all activities?

How important is the location when choosing a wedding venue for photography?

KT: The most important aspect of the location is your desired wedding photography style and whether your photography team can execute that style in the venue you select. Also, ensure there is space on the property to photograph large wedding parties, family groupings, and newlywed photos that fit your needs. Considering photography style: If you desire dark and moody, light and airy, modern and editorial, that will be greatly affected by the location, venue, and style of photography in that environment. Booking a natural light photographer at a ballroom or church wedding may not yield the desired results you wish.

Are there specific or underrated moments during the wedding day that couples should make sure their photographer captures?

KT: Weddings are unique to every couple; sharing your wedding vision with your photographer will help them be better prepared to document small moments that tell the story of your celebration while also photographing the formal events. One mistake I often find couples make is planning their ceremony time before considering whether they want newlywed and family photos during daylight hours or at night. Another thing to consider for outdoor ceremonies is how the sunlight affects the light on the couple and wedding guests, as this can alter the outcome of images significantly if the sunlight is harsh on certain parts or people during the ceremony.

What are some common mistakes couples make when it comes to wedding photography, and how can they avoid them?

KT: Not properly planning your photography timeline to fulfill all the moments the couple wants documented. Failing to have a candid conversation on how much time photography will take during the wedding day. Not having planned out family group photos and sharing those combinations with your photographer. Trusting your photographer on the decisions they make for the day to ensure you have extraordinary photos. Photographers must take into consideration lighting, background, time to move spaces, and so much more. Trust them!

How can couples incorporate their personal style and preferences into the overall theme of their wedding photography?

KT: By hiring a photographer that fits their style. If you desire dark and moody, research photographers who produce this type of editing. Couples who want candid shots only and want the photographer to be behind the scenes the entire time are a particular niche photography style, so finding someone who does documentary style well would fulfill their needs. My clients hire me for my editorial, candid imagery with my modern style of editing. They want clean images that are dynamic and reflect the colors and emotions of the day in their purest form.

Is there any other advice you’d like to give based on your experience?

KT: TRUST your photographer! You will have your images forever; this will be the only time you are documenting your love story with all your loved one’s present.

THE ART OF CHOOSING AN ANTIQUE DIAMOND RING

Georgian era (17141837) silver-topped

14k yellow gold

2.00ct Old Mine

Cut Diamond Ring

$25,100

While modern diamond guides focus on the 4Cs (color, clarity, cut and carat weight), these guidelines didn’t exist a century ago— the minimum age for a piece to be considered antique. In the realm of antique gems and jewels, where each piece whispers tales of bygone eras, the rules of modern diamond selection take a delightful departure.

Unlike today’s guidelines, turn-of-the-century jewelers relied on a keen eye and a trained hand. Before the Industrial Revolution and the advances it brought along in stone cutting and metal smithing, each gem was shaped and set by hand to optimize its play of light. Two cuts, in particular, were exceptionally common for diamonds of the time: Old Mine and Old European.

Before the invention of modern gemological tools and using little more than a magnifying lens, descriptions of gemstone clarity and color were broad. A diamond might be considered “eye clean,” while a ruby could be described as having “feathery” inclusions. These generalizations were often used when describing gemstone color as well with no formal colorgrading scale existing at the time.

Old Mine cut diamonds, most commonly faceted during the Georgian and Victorian periods (1700s to 1800s), feature a distinct cushion shape, while Old European cut diamonds, faceted between 1880 and 1930, became more symmetrically round—and cutters were no longer limited by the octahedral shape of the rough diamond.

While the international carat was introduced in the 1870s and many stones would have been measured in the same weight standard they would be today, there’s a bit of a challenge...

Once the gemstones are set into jewelry, it takes an expert to give an accurate estimate, which is one of the many reasons why working with a trained jewelry professional such as a GIA Graduate Gemologist is so important when buying antique jewelry.

What other factors are important when selecting antique jewelry?

Jewelry is so much more than simply something you wear. It is precious adornment, and in the case of an antique engagement ring, it’s an embodiment of history’s romance and celebration of love’s endurance.

It seems only natural then, that such a personal article would require significant consideration of the persons involved in acquiring any newto-you jewelry.

1. Lifestyle

Consider how the engagement ring fits into your everyday life. While a high-profile setting may be perfect for a bling-loving bride, the same design may not work for someone with an active lifestyle. A low-profile setting can offer comfort without sacrificing sparkle.

2. Personal style

A quick peek into your partner’s jewelry box may be all that you need to guide this decision. Traditional white diamonds or a pop of color? More recently, many couples have decided to shop for a ring together which many see as both romantic and practical.

3. Budget

Finances aren’t the most glamorous part of the ring shopping experience but are a necessary factor nonetheless. You can explore online collections to get a sense of which pieces align with your budget. And remember to reach out to a professional with questions (we love questions!).

Antique and modern diamonds may come with GIA reports, but there is so much that can be learned from seeing a diamond glitter in the sunlight and feeling the platinum embrace on your finger that simple cannot be captured in a printed list of specifications.

Walton’s Jewelry, with a 50-year legacy in the heart of Downtown Franklin, GIA-educated experts and an extraordinary selection of antique and contemporary engagement rings, invites you to discover the perfect ring.

SAY ‘I DO’ IN THE HEART OF ITALY

LEIGH BAWCOM OF LEIGH BAWCOM EVENTS AND HEATHER CORNETT OF SONDER TOURS HAVE TEAMED UP TO PLAN AUTHENTIC ITALIAN WEDDINGS AND HONEYMOONS WITH A TENNESSEE TOUCH

PHOTOGRAPHY BY VANESSA ILLI

here are moments in life when two people serendipitously cross paths. That description illustrates the connection between Leigh Bawcom of Leigh Bawcom Events and Heather Cornett of Sonder Tours Italy. The two met in Franklin in 2022 and quickly became friends. On a warm summer evening, Leigh and Heather were enjoying a dinner in Italy when the sounds of a wedding reception drifted toward their table. A seed was planted, and the friends decided to combine their talents and fields of expertise, which has blossomed into a collaboration between their two businesses.

With over ten years of experience as a wedding and event planner in middle Tennessee, Leigh has worked with countless brides to plan their special day. “People often think that a destination wedding, especially one in Europe, is financially out of reach and a lot to coordinate logistically. If a couple is planning to spend $30,000 to $50,000 on a Nashville area wedding, they could have a more intimate event in Italy for a similar price.” says Leigh. “Heather and I can provide a carefully curated experience that reflects the personalities of the couple, anticipates the needs of the bridal party and guests, and creates memories that everyone in attendance will carry with them for a lifetime.”

Heather launched Sonder Tours in 2021, rooted in a

background of leading group trips to Europe and a lifelong love of Italy. She is passionate about designing distinctive itineraries for her travelers. “I love working with guests to build trips that speak to their soul,” says Heather. “To have the opportunity to be a part of something that brings families and friends together for such a special moment is a privilege.”

Through their joint venture, Leigh and Heather are now accepting bookings for 2025 destination weddings and honeymoons in Italy, for which they have developed a portfolio of unique locations and venues. Leigh will act as the stateside planner and will travel with the bridal party, remaining by their side for the duration of the experience. Heather will handle the travel logistics in Italy, from accommodations to group outings. She will also offer travel planning services for couples who want to honeymoon in Italy.

From vineyard ceremonies to hot air balloon rides over the Italian countryside, Leigh and Heather have partnered to turn your dream of an authentic Italian wedding with a Tennessee touch into a blissful reality.

Bridal Trends

WITH DIAMOND CELLAR

TRUST THE EXPERTS:

Our staff of experienced jewelry professionals are here to guide you through the engagement ring buying process – educating you at every step of the way.

Here we highlight some of 2024’s most popular engagement ring trends with insight from our very own in-house expert, Gabe Truxall.

OVALS EVERYWHERE

We are seeing a large increase in demand for oval shaped diamonds. Its elongated shape has more coverage on the finger making the diamond appear bigger than a round diamond of equal carat weight.

Ovals have taken celebrity engagements by storm including Kourtney Kardashian, Hailey Bieber, and Blake Lively – just to name a few.

“Couples are embracing ovals – not just because they are on trend”, Says Gabe. “It’s a highly functional cut. Not only do they look bigger, but they are less prone to chips when compared to other fancy shape stones.”

LAB GROWN DIAMONDS — THE MODERN APPROACH

We have seen a recent explosion in popularity of lab-grown diamonds –especially for engagement rings. Lab-grown diamonds are created above ground using advanced technological processes that simulate the same conditions under which mined diamonds develop beneath the earth’s crust.

A lab-grown diamond costs up to 70% less than a mined diamond making it a far better value with no compromise in quality.

Lab-grown diamonds are physically, chemically, and optically identical to a diamond mined from the ground. It’s not a diamond alternative like moissanite or cubic zirconia – it is a true diamond – the only difference is its origin.

YELLOW GOLD RENAISSANCE — A CLASSIC RETURNS

Yellow gold is back and bigger than ever. While platinum and white gold rings continue to be in high demand, we are seeing more and more couples choose yellow gold as the perfect companion for their diamond.

Engagement rings crafted in yellow gold were widely popular in the 1980s until they were overtaken by the boom of white gold and platinum in the decades to follow. We are seeing the next generation of couples cycle back to the timeless look of yellow gold.

“I love engagement rings in yellow gold. It will always be a sophisticated look.” says Gabe. “…and a great way to make that beautiful diamond stand out.”

THREE STONES ARE BETTER THAN ONE

Three-stone engagement rings are a popular option with couples looking for a traditional look. The three stones represent the past, present, and future – a fitting way to honor a lifetime of love.

Whether it’s three classically matched diamonds of a similar size or a large center stone flanked by smaller accents – there is a three-stone ring for everyone’s preference.

J. JACKSON: MOBILE MIXOLOGIST

n the dynamic world of event planning where every detail counts, J. Jackson: Mobile Mixologist stands out as an authentic master of the craft. It all started when founder Josh Jackson attended a wedding and found himself frustrated and disappointed that the reception’s bartender-for-hire couldn’t tell the difference between tequila and vodka--and certainly did not have any creativity or expertise to offer the wedding guests. This inspired the start of J. Jackson: Mobile Mixologist, a concierge bartending service with an enthusiastic approach to the art of cocktails and focused dedication to delivering best-in-class service within the event services space. Following a remarkably successful twelve years of experience at the top of the event services industry, J. Jackson has become synonymous with high-value yet affordable event bartending that adds a touch of sophistication to every occasion.

What sets J. Jackson apart is their commitment to providing more than just a drink. They craft exceptional experiences that will capture the imagination of your guests and create lifelong memories. The team of skilled mixologists possess a passion for hospitality that goes beyond the basics. They have perfected the art of blending creativity with practical expertise, offering curated menus that reflect both innovation and a deep understanding of the clients’ unique preferences. They accomplish this all while being quick and efficient behind the bar. No long lines, folks!

J. Jackson: Mobile Mixologist take pride in their ability to transform any event into a true celebration. Whether it’s a corporate gathering, a wedding, or a milestone birthday, they tailor the services to suit the vibe and theme of your occasion.

The J. Jackson specialty is not just pouring beverages; it’s creating an atmosphere of elevated hospitality in which everyone is welcome to raise a glass and enjoy the party.

Their goal is to deliver the highest value at a reasonable price. They use the same innovative approach behind the cocktail design to create personalized event packages to serve a variety of event sizes and scopes. J. Jackson: Mobile Mixologist seeks to redefine the industry by making high-quality mixology services an integral part of any celebration.

J. Jackson’s original cocktails are custom-designed with the client in mind. They work with the hosts to tell their story, share their favorite flavors and styles, and express their individuality through their signature drinks. The custom creations allow the bride and groom to blend the unique flavors of their heritage (or the University where they met, or their dog!) to share with friends and family at a wedding reception, let the boss introduce her new favorite

holiday punch to her employees at happy hour, or give your neighborhood pitmaster a perfect pairing for his birthday barbeque. They always say that if it’s worth celebrating, celebrate well. Their skilled, passionate team of bartenders are here to help you do just that.

Every event is an opportunity to create lasting memories, and J. Jackson: Mobile Mixologist is the perfect partner to make your vision a reality. They bring a unique blend of experience, knowledge, affordability, and creativity together to elevate your celebrations to an extraordinary level. Trust them to turn your next gathering into an unforgettable experience, one perfectly crafted cocktail at a time. Cheers to your next best event!
