Antiques at the Factory welcomed fifteen hundred visitors to our Christmas open house on December 3. Everyone enjoyed a smorgasbord of holiday foods and beverages, and fifty door prizes were awarded in drawings conducted by Santa Claus (a.k.a. Chuck Gordon). YOUR Sponsored Event The Arthritis Foundation sponsored their 3rd annual Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk in downtown Franklin, ushering in the holiday season. Santa hopped on his razor to start the children’s race which was the prelude for the annual 5K run. Participants were dressed in some truly original festive holiday attire Danny, Cooper, Ainsley & Erin Saurers
for the event, with jingle bells jingling as they ran through the streets. It was a wonderful turnout on a beautiful December morning to raise money and awareness for the Arthritis Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

he 26th Dickens of a Christmas festival was staged along Main Street and around Franklin’s square with Charles Dickens characters strolling through the crowds, graciously smiling for every photo request. Talented musicians played on every corner filling the air with the merry sounds of the holiday season. Artists brought unique
treasures to be admired and purchased for that someone special’s Christmas surprise. Food vendors tempted the crowds with the smells of turkey legs, roasted chestnuts and hot cider. Dickens of a Christmas is a favorite event of the holiday season. You just have to experience it to understand why so many make it an annual holiday affair.

Y( )UR featured event A Vintage Affair hosts its Fifth annual “A Fashion Affair” on January 28th at in Jamison Hall in The Factory at Franklin– featuring 2006 EMMY® award winning fashion designer Randall Christensen and his dance-wear couture as seen on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars seasons 2-12. A Fashion Affair 2012 is presented by CIGNA Healthcare. This event is a runway show and wine event raising funds for women’s and children’s charities in Williamson County. A Fashion Affair begins at 6:30pm with cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres, provided by local restaurants, and an informal trunk show. There will be a special musical performance during the evening, as well. The runway show begins at 8pm, featuring DAN Talent Group models, and will showcase the dance clothing that was performed in on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. VIP Runway Tables of eight and individual seats are $1000 per table or $100 per seat (VIP seats and table hosts will receive goody bags). General Admission is $75 per seat. The crowds gathered from Jim Warren Park through the streets of downtown Franklin to see the annual Christmas Parade. There were high school marching bands, beauty queens, mini trucks and Santa Claus to put everyone in
the Christmas spirit. Country music star, Jo Dee Messina served as the 2012 Grand Marshall. The theme of this year’s parade was A Christmas Wish and is put on every year by the cool Springs Kiwanis Club.

Slow Growth . . . For Whom? By Joseph G. Budd, Managing Partner, CFP®, ChFC®
December 1, 2011 I recently read an article about the savings rate in the Unites States rising to 6%. Remember when we as consumers were spending more than we earned for about a decade? Recently, a regional bank economist was fretting over the fact that Americans are saving and that 6% in savings will “hurt our economy”, which he predicts will cause usto limp along for years with slow growth (also known as Gross Domestic Product or GDP). Simply stated; in theory every dollar saved is a dollar NOT being spent on goods and services. Economically, this point may be debatable, but I believe he is underestimating one critical point . . . the earnings growth of American companies that do business all over the world. I hate be the bearer of good news but it looks like the companies in the S & P 500 index will have a 10th consecutive quarter of earnings increases and that the dollar value per share in earnings for the S & P 500 Index for 2011 will hit an all time high dollar value according to PIMCO. This means not equaling a past high but a new high for our 500 largest companies. Thank goodness they do business overseas. You may ask, how did this happen? Well it seems those companies raised cash and reduced debt after the financial crisis of 2008 and didn’t want to rely on either the banks or the government for help (that sounds like a good idea). So, even as the savings rate has increased in the U.S. (not good for GDP but good for individuals) the global reach of those same companies
has allowed them to capitalize on the spending habits of a new emerging middle class . . . worldwide. The point of this is that our shrinking middle class we keep hearing about must be overshadowed by the growing middle class in emerging market countries. We are a mere 300 million people compared to the massive populations of the emerging middle classes of the emerging countries such as: China, India, Brazil, Russia, and South Korea. Just imagine the industrial revolution of our country multiplied by ten or twenty. That sounds like a lot of opportunity for consumer goods companies that we take for granted. I believe those companies that capitalize on this expansion can enable us as investors to grow our wealth over the next thirty years. However, even with the increase of personal savings, most people are behind with respect to their saving for retirement. According to the Employee Research Benefits Institute 2011 survey, most people are putting away one fourth of what they need to save for retirement. So it is here that I disagree with the economists wringing their hands over American saving more. That 6% in saving isn’t going to get us to where we need to be but sometimes you have to drive off the road to hit the guardrail to realize your were asleep while you were driving. Viva la savings! Greg & Kelly September 24, 2011
Greg and Kelly found each other while working at the same restaurant, Joe’s Crab Shack, in Cool Springs. Greg and Kelly began dating the summer of 2002 when Kelly was going into her senior year at Brentwood High School and Greg was in his second year at Columbia State Community College. After Kelly’s graduation in 2003, the two attended college at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where their relationship blossomed. Greg and Kelly graduated from UTC in 2007 and moved back to the Nashville area. When the time was right, Greg proposed to Kelly in 2009 while on vacation in Park City, UT as they made snow angels in the falling snow. After a two year engagement, their wedding was held on September 24th, 2011 at the beautiful and historic Riverwood Mansion in Nashville, TN. The ceremony took place in the outdoor garden where the entrance was adorned with an ivy covered archway. The aisle was lined with honeysuckle wrapped shepherd hooks and lanterns which led to the arched altar wrapped with more honeysuckle and exquisite flowers. In keeping with a long-time Duke family tradition, the ceremony was performed
by Pastor Bernard Ansorge. Pastor Ansorge has presided over several Duke marriages including Greg’s parents, his older sister, and several others in his extended family. The bride, escorted by her father, walked down the isle to Canon in D performed by a solo aucoustic guitar. With the exchanging of vows and presentation of the couple, Greg and Kelly’s love story began a new chapter. The reception was also held at Riverwood Mansion. Greg and Kelly were introduced to the reception with “Two Step” by The Dave Matthews Band, the couple’s favroite band. They danced their first dance to Ben Harper’s “Forever” which was followed by toats offerred by the father of the Bride, Dr. Anthony Urbanek, father of the Groom, Greg Duke Sr., Maid of Honor, Lauren Brantley, and Best Man, Stephen Tew. A fun night of dinner, dancing, cake cutting, bouquet tossing and garter throwing was concluded by an elegant exit in a classic 1962 Jaguar. Melanie McConnell and Tony Boyles were united in marriage on June 2, 2011 in a late afternoon ceremony at The Preserve Resort in Pigeon Forge, TN. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick McConnell of Johnson City, TN. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Boyles of Hendersonville, TN. Tony and Melanie were joined by 75 of their closest friends and family for an evening of celebration. The ceremony was held in the Smokey Mountain Chapel, where Tony and Melanie exchanged vows. The bouquets and floral arrangements of white hydrangeas, roses, and tulips were arranged by a close family friend of the McConnell family. The bride’s sister, Stephanie McConnell was maid of honor. The groom’s brother, Patrick Boyles served as best man. Following the ceremony, a homemade buffet dinner, dancing and celebration were held at the resort overlooking the Smoky Mountains. Tony is a graduate of Antioch High School. Melanie is a graduate of Franklin High and Radford University, VA. After an adventure filled honeymoon in Gatlinburg, TN, the couple now resides in Nashville, TN.

A BRIDE’S GUIDE TO GETTING CRAFTY

Tissue Pomanders All you need to make your own tissue pomanders are a few Styrofoam balls, tissue paper in whatever color you choose, and some mid-weight jewellery wire. Cut the tissue paper into 5”7” rectangles. Stack four and fan fold them. Tie the wire around the middle and leave 2-3 inches of wire on the end depending on the size of the ball. Holding the wire, gently pull up the tissue paper, one at a time to make a flower. Once you’ve pulled up all of the pieces of tissue paper stick the wire into the Styrofoam ball. Continue until the ball is full. Use them to line the aisle or hang them from a white tent to add a pop of color. Check out these Amanda made over at ruffledblog.com!

For a simple, natural looking centerpiece plant a flower in a small pot and place one in the center of each table. If you don’t like the terracotta look, paint them to match your decor or use a metal planter. Use them to hold your table numbers or to get extra creative, plant a different kind of flower in each pot and identify each table by its flower. Guests can take the flowers home with them or you can plant them later.

Cupcake Liner Garland This garland is super easy and so easily customizable. You will need cupcake liners in colors that correspond with your wedding, thick string, and a large enough needle to thread your chosen twine. We also love the addition of tulle cut into similar sized circles as the cupcake liners. Simply tie a knot at one end of your string, flatten out the cupcake liners a little, and begin stringing them on in no particular order, adding in tulle every once in awhile until you have a whole garland! Make multiples and string them from the ceiling or around entry ways. These are perfect to hang over buffet tables at a reception or even over the alter.

Alicon Lee & Matthew Rogers wanted a wedding that reflected the priorities and goals for their life spent together; Modest, meaningful and authentic along with their love of laughter, music and family. They were married on February 11th, 2012 surrounded by their closest friends and family in the home of Matthew’s parents and grandparents: Captain Mark & Damon Rogers and Jimmy & Pug Akin. It was two years after their first date, which took weeks for Alicon to agree to go on with a very persistent Matt. Since 11 is such an important number to both of them, they each wrote five unique vows to each other with one mutual vow shared at the end. The 15 minute ceremony was officiated by Chief Justice Connie Clark, Tennessee Supreme Court with Ryely Rogers as the flower girl. Matt had seven groomsmen with Alicon’s seven bridesmaids. Forty guests attended the intimate wedding ceremony that was a celebration of love and lasting friendship that started with a toast from the father of the groom and a shot of their favorite Nigiri sake that quickly led to a music and dance party down the street at The Red House. With over 150 guests at the wedding reception and decorations & design by Kelly Spalding at Perfectly Placed, the evening was filled with dance circles, kindred spirits, camaraderie and mutual support on how to build a sustainable marriage. Since their very first encounter, Alicon and Matthew have been surrounded by music, friends, laughter and a passionate connection with the world around them. Their dream to travel the world, absorb new cultures and meet new friends led them to Costa Rica for their honeymoon where they hope to retire someday.

Our models, Leslie and Jason Henke, are newlyweds and were married in Williamson County in October. Jason is wearing a classic and timeless tuxedo, available at Street Tuxedo of Franklin. Leslie shows two wedding gown styles, one being a strapless ball gown by Vera Wang with a true romantic look with a floating multi-layered lace, soft tucked skirt and swirling pleated organza. The other gown is shows off the form more with an asymmetrically draped strapless, mermaid fit with a full skirt with ladder technique, and is also by Vera Wang. The gorgeous wedding gowns can be found at b. Hughes Bridal of Nashville. Leslie wears some fabulous jewelry, with a diamond “bow” necklace and vintage diamond earrings from Walton’s Antique Jewelry of Franklin. The beautiful flower bouquet was created by Always in Bloom of Franklin and consists of white roses and call lilies. YOUR fashion stylist and makeup artist, heyleeB., did the makeup for our beautiful bride. When choosing the makeup look for this bride, heyleeB. went for a beautiful and natural look. Leslie is wearing a light mineral foundation and loose powder to keep her beautiful glow. She kept her eyes light and natural, but with a black long-wear eyeliner to define them. The black on most occasions works best for pictures, unless you are very very fair skinned, and the long wear will help her keep her lasting through the last dance instead of smearing on her face. She did a pink cheek to brighten up her face and a perfect pinky nude lip to finish off her flawless look. All cosmetics used were “brianne” by heyleeB. The bride’s hair was styled by Korie Bernard, and shows off a modern yet timeless look of long loose curls and body with the hair down. The beautiful setting for our Bridal Fashion was CJ’s off the Square, located in Downtown Franklin. Divine appointment, friends, family and music brought Jason and Leslie together. Jason, a Nebraska native, and Leslie, from Louisiana, songwriters working in the music business, first met at Which Wich in Franklin on a Sunday afternoon following church. A mutual friend, Jessica, introduced the two and suggested they write a song together. What began as a co-write turned into a rare friendship. As months passed, Jason and Leslie realized their love was very special and that they were meant to be together. When the two road-tripped to Asheville, North Carolina, in February 2011, Leslie had no idea the weekend would be extra special. After a relaxing dinner, they returned to their bed and breakfast room filled with lit candles. Jason asked Leslie to dance and played their favorite songs. He told her what she meant to him, and the two prayed together. That night, February 26, he proposed! Jason Henke married Leslie Martin on October 8, 2011 at historic Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in downtown Franklin. Music composed by the bride and groom welcomed guests and Dr. Michael Easley opened with an inviting message. The bride, daughter of Ronald and Barbara Martin of Columbia, wore a diamond white organza and tulle wedding gown with floral rhinestone detail. The groom, son of James and Judy Henke of Fairview, sported a black tux with white and silver tie. The bride’s sisters, Star Killebrew and Brooke Martin, and groom’s sister, Jodi Reiter, were among the bridesmaids who wore deep royal blue dresses. Following photos by Ace Photography, the newlyweds headed off to the reception at The Factory At Franklin’s Liberty Hall in a classic cherry red Cadillac convertible. Chandeliers and Italian string lights lended a sense of coziness to The Factory’s cool industrial architecture. Burning Las Vegas amped up the crowd with their cool Motown style channeling a Tina Turner vibe. The bride and groom’s first dance was to Keith Urban’s “Only You Can Love Me This Way.” To the groom’s surprise, the bride wore a Nebraska Cornhuskers garter (Jason’s alma mater). Friends say the moment that garter was tossed, the Husker football team began making its biggest comeback in school history. Southern cuisine from Stoveworks Restaurant enticed guests and made the Louisiana bride feel at home. A midnight blue cake with pearlized accents served as a fitting centerpiece, and a cherry sunburst Gibson Hummingbird guitar groom’s cake by Sweetface Cakes showcased their love for music. The couple further personalized their day with a music video (a duet sung by the two) by Awaken Films, a decorative message tree, and guitar pick favors. The newlyweds headed to Union Station Hotel for the night before honeymooning for a week in Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii. Love for music originally drew Jason and Leslie to Nashville, but in the process, they found love for each other.

Stephen & Ashley October 29, 2011
Stephen and Ashley met on December 16th, 2008 after a mutual friend suggested that they meet up for dinner and a movie. Dinner was full of great conversation where the couple quickly realized that they had a lot in common. After a few weeks of dinner and hockey games the couple quickly became inseparable. On December 16th 2010 Stephen proposed to Ashley at their home in front of the Christmas tree. The couple planned for a fall wedding which would take place in Lebanon Tennessee at the Brides family’s church, and consist of 150 of their closest friends and family members. On October 29th after the guests were seated the lights grew dim as the back doors of the church opened up and the bride walked down an aisle lined with candles and 12,000 rose petals. It was a very intimate moment as the couple exchanged vows and their commitments to one another. Shortly after the
ceremony ended the guests lined up outside of the church to see the couple off with a bubble escape. The reception was held in Baird Chapel on the campus of Cumberland University. As the guests made their way into the reception they were greeted with an intimate setting. The tables were dressed with black linens that had hurricane globes, votives and gorgeous gerbera daisy flower arrangements as centerpieces. The guests enjoyed great food, music and dancing. The couple treated their guests to a candy buffet as a wedding favor. After three hours of celebrating their marriage, a black limousine pulled up to the chapel where once again the guests lined up to see the new couple off. Stephen and Ashley spent their first night as a married couple at Opryland Hotel where they will spend many more anniversaries to come!

David Robert DeFatta and Laura Rebecca Gentry were married on June 11, 2011. They were married by Rev. John Patton at West Franklin Baptist Church and celebrated with a reception at the bride’s family farm, Gentry Farm. The bride is the daughter of John Scott and Melanie Gentry of Franklin. The groom is the son of Joe and Jodi DeFatta of Franklin. The bride attended highschool at Brentwood Academy while the groom attended Franklin High School. David and Laura began dating at the end of high school. From that point forward they knew that it was all in God’s plans for them to be together and the rest is history! The two attended Middle Tennessee State University together. David graduated in 2009 with a degree in Construction Management and currently serves at his family’s custom homebuilding company, DAC Homebuilders. Laura graduated in 2010 with a degree in Elementary and Special Education and teaches second grade at Grace Christian Academy. David proposed to Laura on Thanksgiving Day, November 25th, 2010 at the future site of their home to be on the Gentry family farm. The bride’s dress was designed by Oleg Cassini and she wore an antique diamond necklace given to
her by the groom on the day of their wedding, from local Walton’s Antique Jewelry. The photgraphy was done by Laurel Pankratz, of Eilas Photography. The couple were blessed to have various friends and family to make their wedding a true fairytale. A special thanks to both Christina Martin and Sara Grossholz for creating a breathtaking ceremony and reception. In honor of the brides late grandmother, Rebecca Gentry, the couple used her antique china and silver as part of decor centerpieces at the farm reception. The bride is of the eighth generation to live on the farm and the couple spends much time out at this special place, therefore it was the most ideal location to honor their marriage. It was an incredibly special day to celebrate the beginning of both David and Laura’s lives together with dear family and friends on a perfect June afternoon! Dustin & Stephanie September 10, 2011
Dustin Carpenter and Stephanie Nee were married in the afternoon at the Scarritt Bennett Center in Nashville on September 10, 2011. They had been planning the wedding for a little over a year and were very excited when the day finally came. Their colors were black, white, and red. They wanted a very classic and regal yet unique style to the wedding. Stephanie wore a dress from The White Room with a black birdcage veil that was designed for her by a designer she found on Etsy. Dustin and his groomsmen wore fitted all black English Laundry suits. They both loved the high ceilings, stone walls, and stained glass that Scarritt had to offer and fell in love with the space right away. They are both music lovers so Dustin and Stephanie thought that the Cannery Ballroom would be the perfect place to host the reception. They had attended shows there and Dustin had played drums in his band there. The reception was a hot air balloon theme.All of the centerpieces were hot air ballons and as the couple left, everyone released red balloons. Stephanie’s dad
was at the Cannery helping blow up balloons and put together the centerpieces hours before the wedding. He also made their fingerprint guestbook tree that was set up in the front room of the Cannery. Dustin and Stephanie had the most magical day of their lives and danced the night away with all of their friends and family. After the reception they took a party bus downtown with the wedding party and friends to continue the celebration. It truly was a perfect day. The photographs were taken by Ace Photography and the flowers were from Flower Express in Hendersonville. Stephanie’s hair was done at Lucy Pop in Nashville by Nichole. The bridesmaid’s dresses were from Davids Bridal, the cake was from Publix in Fieldstone Farms, and the caterer was Flavor. Their dj was Elite Signature Djs, and they used Matchless Limousines for their vintage jaguar get away car from the church to the reception.

Even if a couple starts out worlds apart, there are more looks and options to choose from today than ever before, and plenty of opportunity to find common ground and create their dream home.

Newlyweds receive lots of advice about marriage. But, they are usually not offered advice on the intricacies of designing a new home together. Picture the newlyweds, as the moving van pulls away, standing among the stacks of his and hers boxes in their new, shared residence - and each wondering how they’re going to pull it all together. To ensure that their happy new home doesn’t become a post-wedding house divided, here are a few decorating tips married couples can follow.
RELAX.
GET INSPIRED.
Don’t worry about what goes with what: Mix, don’t match. A new home, like a new relationship, is about the couple. Follow decorating instincts with pieces that suit both his and her interests and activities.
Research the possibilities as a couple. Get together on the couch and scan newspapers, magazines, and TV shows. Discuss friends’ homes. Find design inspiration and common ground. If she likes Cottage Style and he prefers Modern, both should rejoice upon discovering they prefer lighter wood tones and color schemes.
R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Beware of underlying emotions. She’ll trample his feelings if she trashes his well-worn recliner - a hand-me-down from Dad. Instead, both need to get creative and compromise: Give it a corner in the bedroom if it’s a “no” for the living room.
PRIORITIZE. Blending pieces from the past is one thing but shopping for new furniture is another, and larger, undertaking. List what’s needed most. While he may want a sleek new media center for the television, does it make sense if the couple is left to sit on a dorm-room futon?
COLLABORATE. Many couples include one décor-conscious person and one “it’s just a chair” person. While one partner may be driving most decisions, for the long-term good of the relationship, involve the other. Don’t forget - it’s his/her home, too. Couples can remove much of the pressure by viewing the experience as an opportunity to share what they love about each other. They should focus not only on the beautiful outcome of creating a new décor together, but the bigger picture as well - starting a new life together.
BUDGET. Be realistic in setting spending limits and work within them. Ask when shopping: Will this be a “forever” dining room or is it just a temporary solution until a future move into a larger place? Saving money now for a better selection down the road is an option, too.

Crowds gathered in the village with great anticipation for the Annual Christmas Parade. Jake, author Robert Hick’s “world famous” dog shared the honor of Grand Marshal with musician Larry Carlton. Vintage vehicles, animals and floats throwing out lots of candy, brought smiles to everyone along the route. Santa was at the gazebo listening carefully to the little
ones as they reminded him of that special something on their Christmas list. This parade is so entertaining you really do not know what to expect next! One thing we can count on in Leiper’s Fork is they are taking care of their neighbors; whether 2 legged or 4 as they collected donations during the parade,to help make others holiday bright.

The initial volunteer who made them had left, and Gwen Pullen, then-Volunteer Program coordinator, hoped someone else would be able to fill her shoes. Fourteen years ago, Nancy Wright volunteered to carry on a young tradition at Williamson Medical Center that provided comfort to families following the loss of a loved one. Wright was that someone. Having been volunteering for little over a year, she instantly found it in her heart to prolong the anonymous gesture of love. More than 3,500 angels later, Wright can’t see herself doing anything less. Four types of angels are made for patients: adult angels, little blue and pink angels for all discharged newborns and little yellow angels for parents mourning the loss of a baby. In recent years another volunteer, Barbara Feaster, has helped piece together the little pink cherubs, but Wright continues to produce the majority of the angels. On the adult angels reads a saying, “Guardian Angels are always at your side to watch, protect ... forever be your guide. The handmade angels are a “sweet touch” on top of everything else the volunteers do for patients and their families, says Angie Birkemeyer-Jones, who began overseeing the Volunteer Program in 2007. REALTORS(r) Play Santa for Graceworks Ministries The Williamson County Association of Realtors collected hundreds of toys for the Graceworks Ministries Manger. Toys, books, games and donations for all ages were collected throughout Williamson County Realtor Offices. The WCAR Young Professionals Network, led by Realtor® Kevin Pellatiro, coordinated the effort with the support of several Williamson County businesses. Waste Management, Reliant Bank and Signs First of Franklin all played a huge part in the success of the toy drive. Graceworks Ministries is a nonprofit ministry funded by individuals, businesses, civic groups, churches and the Graceworks Thrift Store. Since its founding in1995, Graceworks has helped families in Williamson County with food, rent, utilities and other aid, regardless of their personal faith. The Lotz House welcomes home another Matilda Lotz painting The historic Lotz House museum in Franklin Tenn. has been gifted another painting by the late artist, Matilda Lotz, who grew up in the historic home. This is the fifth painting acquired in the house collection in only three years of being open. According to Lotz House Executive Director J.T. Thompson, this is the second Matilda Lotz painting donated by Nora King and her family. King is a direct descendant of Johann Albert Lotz, the man who built the historic Franklin home. Joan Anderson, an Executive Assistant at the non-profit, nominated Charron and has experienced first hand the benefits of Jim’s service. She spoke of Jim’s willingness and “offering his gifts and talents generously” in her nomination. In addition to voluntarily supervising various construction and renovation projects over the years, he has personally helped tile floors, repair windows, remodel kitchens, install drainage systems, and much more. In 2010 he oversaw extensive repairs to a school following the flood and tornado damage that year. Its no surprise around the schools of Project Reflect Jim is known as “St. Jim.” As a part of being a Darrell Waltrip Automotive Hometown Hero, a $500 donation will be made to Project Reflect. The organization fosters an Elementary and Middle School, as well after school programs to help provide education for children at high risk of school failure. CAMERA ready The Brentwood/Cool Springs office of Bob Parks Realty held their holiday party on December 10th. The historic Sayer House in the Taramore subdivision was the perfect venue for this festive occasion.
