Editor-in-Chief NITISH SHAH nitish@youthincmag.com
After the success of our last MBA Rankings we are back again this year with our third Top 100 Global B-School Ranking. Through months of research and gathering surveys from universities, students and recruiters across the worlds these results have been compiled to help students make an informed career decision. This ranking exclusive covers top universities for executive, online, management, fiance and marketing MBAs. When making such life decisions students can often feel bogged down specially those working along with their studies. We agree, there are moments when it might all seem a little too overwhelming, but avoiding stress is not as impossible as it seems. A little organising and prioritising goes a long way. We present tips to managing stress at work for those currently working or those who will venture into the work space in the near future. “You can change your wife, your politics, your religion, but never, never can you change your favourite football team.”- Eric Cantona More often than not football as a sport in India is not given the credit it deserves. While the country has a huge football fan base with Manchester Soccer School visiting to train young football enthusiasts year after year, and the craze witnessed every four years a la the FIFA World Cup, the sport still doesn’t get the traction it mandates. To bridge this gap, the Indian Super League (ISL) was launched earlier this month. Football fans that we at Youth Inc are, we thought it a must to cover this new football league. Get to know the team members, owners, coaches in our round up of the league and let's together watch the league unfold in the coming months. With talk of music festivals brewing at every corner, we thought a round-up of music festivals would be ideal. We looked at 10 international music festivals across 10 countries for the music festival junkie. Set out on a global musical journey making this anthology your guide. Having attended a few, I personally recommend you visit and have your share of fun. Happy Children’s Day, to India's Gen-Y!

GIVE YOUR CAREER A FLYING START IN A RECESSION PROOF SECTOR!
Market doldrums! Sensex Heart attacks! Is there anything FOOLPROOF?!?! Do you think such an industry can exist in our land?! The Luxury Industry is not something that gets affected by the everyday humdrum of commercial squabbles. Despite the global economic slowdown, Luxury is one industry, which has been recession proof!! In India, it is no different where it has grown constantly @ 20% per annum for past several years and is today estimated to be at almost 12 billion USD. Projections estimate the size to soon touch $15 billion . Unlike popular perception, luxury today is not just limited to fashion, but has penetrated almost every sphere of lifestyle. Be it fine dining, automobiles, aviation, branded residences, travel, tourism, health & fitness, watches, jewellery, spa’s or even medical, banking, concierge services, luxury is visible everywhere. Luxury needs a typical employee
who has a fine eye for detail and is essentially service oriented. To be able to handle the needs of the affluent consumer, a special training and education is required. AT Kearney & KPMG -research figures show that the Luxury industry faces an acute shortage of skilled talent. It is also estimated that the industry would need some 1.7 m people by 2022. To meet this rising demand Luxury Connect Business School (LCBS),
India’s first and only luxury B-School has joined hands with International University of Monaco (IUM), the world leader in Luxury Education to launch Diploma Programs in Luxury Management. The two programs, Post Graduate Diploma in Luxury Management and Executive Diploma in Luxury Management are designed in a manner that the student spends 30% of his academic time at the IUM campus. Here, the student gets an opportunity to be at the hub of luxury. Additionally, LCBS is the only institute to provide specialized Post graduate diploma & certificate programs in the field of Luxury, Fashion & Retail. The USP of LCBS revolves around ‘by the Industry - for the industry - delivered by the industry’. All programs will be delivered by industry experts and stalwarts where in the students have an opportunity to learn from real time experience. If that isn’t enough to convince a student, the programs cost less than half of what a comparative program abroad would cost! Founded by Abhay Gupta, an industry veteran, all the programs at LCBS are officially endorsed by fondazionealtagamma, the head of all luxury brands! National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), a Govt of India accreditation is in process and expected any time soon.
Come be a part of this growing, exciting & glamorous space. For details check: www.lcbs.edu.in call +91 9811103268.

HOBBY CAREER
All the world’s a STAGE Centuries ago, when there was no cinema, passionate actors still existed. But where did these actors go to feed their artsy souls? To the theatre, of course. Pankhuri Shukla explores a career in the glamour and talented filled world of theatre
A
ground where acting talent is nurtured and enriched, theatre is a career that most aspiring actors dabble with before they make debut into the movie world. Hugh Jackman, Andrew Garfield, Gwyneth Paltrow and closer to home – Kangana Ranaut, Shahrukh Khan, Naseeruddin Shah began their colourful acting careers with theatre.
What is Theatre?
Theatre is a form of fine art that involves performances by actors by means of various combinations of speech, gestures, dance and music.
Theatre may also be referred to as the place where theatre acting is being conducted. It is also often referred to as ‘drama’. Theatre does not just include a bunch of wannabe actors prancing about the stage delivering their dialogues. It is in fact, much more than that. It is one of the most important forms of performing arts that has generations of talent to its credit. Plays, musicals, stand-up comedy etc are some forms of theatre.
more holistic in its approach. With no ‘take ones’ and ‘take twos’, it requires a whole lot more from a person in terms of talent and commitment. Ashok Singh, a businessman, who has been pursuing acting as a hobby for the past four years says, “The best part about being a theatre actor is the reality of it all. A theatre actor literally gets into the skin of the character because of the months of rehearsals he goes through as there is no such thing as a second take.”
What Does It Require?
Should I Still Go To College?
Acting on stage requires much more than just confidence and memory; it is
Of course ,you should still go to
18 Youth Incorporated NOVEMBER 2014

college even if your true calling is theatre. There is no mandatory list of degrees or qualifications that can educate one enough to be a theatre actor. It comes with recurrent practice and of course, love for the art as opposed to a certain number of years spent in an educational institute or university. Although, there are various acting schools like The National School of Drama, Film and Television Institute of India and many more that do help in acquiring a professional education and edge for those looking at theatre acting as a career, the best way to perfect theatre as a profession is to join a theatre group and to surround yourself with talented young enthusiasts.
Bollywood and Theatre
A majority of the Indian population believes in the common misconception that theatre is the stepping stone to Bollywood and that it leads to subsequent fame. While many theatre actors have found solace in acting for Bollywood movies, there are many who struggle to find any kind of recognition or their niche. At times, theatre actors may not be accepted by society or the film fraternity because of the struggle they go through to fit into this new mould. For a person just starting off as a theatre actor, it might not be a lucrative career aspect, which is why many choose to pursue theatre along with a day job. While it is not as well-paying as Bollywood acting, theatre brings with it a different kind of thrill that surpasses the desire for fame and money.
Theatre Acting As a Career in India
Like any other career in the field
FRÉDÉRIC RASPAIL, WIKIMEDIA COMMONS

of arts, theatre acting has its own bar of uncertainty that dooms it an unpopular choice of career. In all honesty, it probably isn’t an economic safe haven. But that is also a reason why theatre acting is not for any Tom, Dick or Harry. Theatre is not for the faint-hearted. So those looking for instant monetary satisfaction and glamour, a career in theatre might not be your cuppa. However, contrary to popular belief, the importance of theatre in the Indian subcontinent has grown recently and is apparent in the number of people who regularly watch plays.
The Rocky Road Ahead
Admittedly, theatre is progressing but at a slow pace compared to the rest of the world. India still has a long way to go before its youth are confident enough to choose the unconventional path of theatre as opposed to medicine, engineering and MBA. Theatre needs a strong governmental support in the form of good quality theatres which can be made available to theatre groups at a reasonable cost. Also, steps can be taken to make it a part of the curriculum for most of the schools and colleges as it helps in developing one’s personality, increases self-confidence and also hone an individual’s acting skills at an early age. That being said, there is also a need for the Indian audience to look at acting as something that goes beyond just Friday releases. yi NOVEMBER 2014 Youth Incorporated 19

eadlines, appointments, meetings and targets are more than enough to get anyone’s head whirling. In the corporate world, office stress is a rule more than an exception. While a moderate level of stress is known to boost productivity, too much can be the opposite of helpful. Unnecessary stress can cloud your judgement and prevent you from seeing things clearly. From the most basic to the most creative, here are a few things you can do to manage stress at work.
THE BASIC
Do one thing at a time
No, you aren’t super human and no matter how hard you try you will never be able to do all those six tasks simultaneously. In fact, juggling multiple tasks at a time will lead to them all being half baked. Instead, do one thing at a time and focus on doing it well. You’ll get more stuff done that way.
Manage your time well
Prioritise your tasks. The most common mistake people make is trying to do everything by themselves. Analyse what you need to do on your own and what you can delegate. Breaking huge tasks down into a series of smaller tasks spread over a longer period of time is a sure shot way to cut down on stress.
Keep your to-do lists very short
Super long to-do lists end up leaving you overwhelmed and make you focus on what remains rather than what is done. Restrict your to-do list to three to five most important tasks that need to be accomplished in the day. It works really well.
THE BETTER
Grab some chocolate
Dark chocolate is known to contain flavonoids which help blood vessels relax and calm overall stress. So keep a bar of chocolate in your desk, it might just come handy the next time the stress monster strikes!
Maintain a stress diary Keeping a stress diary for a few weeks is an excellent stress management tool as it can help you to keep track of the situations that trigger stress. “I maintained my stress diary very diligently. I would jot down the date, time and place of each stressful episode, what I was doing and with whom and how I felt at that point in time. I’d even rate them on a scale of 1-10. It helped me understand my stress and cope with it.” Says Shetal Kinjra, who worked in the client servicing department of All In Events.
Learn to say NO
Shreya Shetty, an accounting student who has done multiple internships, says, “Most of my stress had its roots in the fact that I could not turn people down. I’d agree to do whatever I was asked and ultimately end up with more on my plate than I could handle. I learnt in due course of time that a simple ‘I’d love to do it but I’m in the middle of something right now’ never hurt anyone. My stress levels have declined drastically ever since.”
THE BRILLIANT Rub your Hoku
The skin on your palm that connects your pointer finger to your thumb, also known as your hoku, is an acupressure point related to upper body tension. The scientists at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University have found that squeezing it can reduce stress up to 39%.
Restrict your to-do list to three to five most important tasks that need to be accomplished in the day. Listen to some calming music
Several people consider music to be the ultimate escape. There is no reason why it cannot be an escape from stress as well. Listening to some soothing music can not only induce a dip in your levels of stress, but also bring peace to your restless mind.
Pop some bubble wrap
“My internship came with a very heavy workload. When things got out of hand, there was one thing that would always make me feel better – bubble wrap! I mean seriously, if bubble wrap can’t make you feel better nothing can!” Exclaims Drishty Patel, a former intern at Imarticus Learning. And if you don’t have any bubble wrap at hand, check out www. virtual-bubblewrap.com to pop some virtually.
Take it easy
There are several ways of dealing with stress and each technique works differently for different people. Find something that works for you and stick to it, limiting your stress to healthy levels will ensure that you are happier and healthier in the long run. On a concluding note, find time out to dis-engage from work and re-engage with those to who matter. Don’t let those crazy work hours take a toll on your relationships. Schedule some time to be with your loved ones and just relax, talk and laugh! Keep that cell phone away and make sure that there are people in your life who give you enough happiness to counter all that office stress. yi

Don’t just spend your time abroad studying – travel, engage, make friends and learn the language. Nimi Jayachandran shares tips on maximising an international study abroad experience
tudying abroad can be a rich and fulfilling experience when you know how to get the most of your stay. Whether required as part of your course requirements, or a decision taken out of interest – spending a semester abroad will definitely expand your horizons and introduce you to whole new world. BEFORE YOU MOVE Accommodation, travel and money Make sure you do plenty of research with regards to the lifestyle you will be living. Familiarise yourself with the weather of the country you are moving

Student Identity Card (ISIC) before you leave can help you save money on accommodations, transport and entertainment. Acquaint yourself with the currency and exchange rate to make things easier for you on arrival. If you are planning to use a credit card during your travels, be aware of the international fees. ON ARRIVAL Brace yourself for the culture shock Regardless of how much you may have prepared mentally, expect to experience some culture shock and homesickness. Your homesickness will go away once you immerse yourself in day to day activities and involve yourself in getting to know new things around you. However, be prepared to face some prejudice. You are in a new place and sometimes that becomes more obvious than it should. Come what may, take it all in your stride.
to and pack clothes accordingly. With regards to housing, you will need to find out whether accommodation will be provided as part of the programme or if alternate arrangements at hostels or apartment complexes will have to be made. For your journey, travels and stay, make sure to find out what official documentation will be needed. Also ensure your passport is updated and you’ve applied for your visa well in advance. Look into not just tuition and scholarships, but also daily living expenses. Getting an International
ON FOREIGN SHORES Explore The sudden change in environment and lifestyle may make you want to run to the first familiar setting and stay there your entire course of stay; however that defeats the purpose of studying abroad in the first place! Grab a map of the locale and explore what the place has to offer you. Try the native cuisine or listen to a local band play. Read the local newspaper and try to find new activities that are available for you to do. If you’re a fan of sports, you can explore the sports scene of the area. Travel around to different parts of the city and explore the locality; make friends with the locals and try something you normally wouldn’t. Embrace traditions Be respectful of the native culture and practices. Be open-minded and allow yourself to experience the local traditions. You don’t want to be missing out on the opportunity to learn something new about a different culture. Act with respect and courtesy. Keep in mind there may be a certain set of rules you will be
expected to prescribe to. Furthermore, there is a high chance you will get the chance to attend a local holiday celebration. International students in the US and Canada may have the chance to experience Thanksgiving, while students going to Italy could get the chance to be a part of the EuroChocolate festival. Learn the language Krista Abrams went to Paris for a semester during her 10th grade and gives the following advice regarding the local language, “try to learn a few basic phrases before leaving; you’ll find that when you attempt to speak to the locals to the best of your abilities, they will encourage your efforts and respond in a positive manner.” Some places offer an exchange tutoring programme as well. “When I was studying in Korea, I was a volunteer at a programme through which I had to help another student with their English, who in exchanged helped me with learning Korean,” says Andrew Cheng. Take on extra-curricular activities Finding things to do in your new home country will make your stay more fruitful. Within the first week of most programmes, you will be introduced to various extra-curricular activities, such as the campus sports teams, volunteer organisations, nature clubs and much more. Keep your eyes peeled for such activities. Get a job Many students take the opportunity abroad to work part time. It gives an exposure to the culture, a chance to practice/learn the language, as well as make some money on the side. If you do choose to take up a part time job, be sure to not let it conflict with your academic schedule. CONCLUSION Studying abroad for a semester can be a very rewarding experience if you open yourself up to the new country and play it safe. Keep all the points above in mind, go out there and prepare yourself to have an amazing time. yi NOVEMBER 2014 Youth Incorporated 23

Racecar driver Advait Deodhar talks to Youth Inc’s Aayush Ailawadi about his need for speed, career goals and the future of motorsport in India
“Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real”
T
hese profound words were once uttered by the legendary rapper Tupac Shakur and even today, they continue to influence an entire generation of youngsters the world over. There are some of us though, who manage to transform our childhood dreams into reality with courage, patience and determination. 24-year old Advait Deodhar is one such dreamer who dreamed of becoming a race car driver ever since he was a toddler and stopped at nothing less. When I went to school with Advait, I noticed how he stood out from the herd. One could perhaps attribute that to the fact that he was the tallest kid in school, but I was certain that he’d do something extraordinary with his life. Little did I know that this towering lad of 6 feet 4 inches, hailing from Mumbai would go onto to become India’s foremost hope in the world of motorsport. 24 Youth Incorporated NOVEMBER 2014

How did your parents react to such a novel career choice? I've wanted to be a race car driver since I was three years old. But, the opportunity came pretty late in life. As for my parents, they weren't surprised when I told them I want to give it a real shot. However, they made it very clear that they would get me going, after which I had to get myself funded in the expensive world of motorsport on my own. What was it like moving to Italy as a teenager to study Automobile Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Turin? 18-22 are the most formidable years in my opinion. If I could go back, I wouldn't change a thing. Growing up in Italy made me the independent, motivated and driven person that I am today. Studying Automobile Design definitely had an impact on my decision to pursue racing. Being exposed to the automotive industry was one thing. But, the main thing was the frustration that built up in me when I was designing cars (not that I didn't enjoy it). I decided to race instead of sitting in front of a screen designing cars. Be it sailing as a youngster or skiing in Italy or racing professionally – you seem to be living in the fast lane – Has speed always fascinated you? Undoubtedly! Speed has always fascinated me. As my parents constantly joke about it, ‘fast’ is the only word I really understood as a kid. Apparently, I used to say it with a big fat lisp. I've also been sailing since the age of nine and I was also awarded Youth National Sailing champion. I absolutely love sailing, but never ever looked at it as a career option. In terms of motorsport, I am completely selftaught. I literally jumped into the deep end in 2012 and started competing. Having said that, I did have a driver coach last year for a couple of rounds, but he only helped refine my driving. As the legendary Mario Andretti once said, “Not everyone can be a racing driver. Either you have it or you don't.”

A season in Motorsport can be exorbitant. How have you managed to fund yourself so far? I have been putting in my 110% to get myself fully funded since 2013. I have also been devoting a tremendous amount of time and energy into getting a great sponsor on board. This is my passion and the fact that I want this more than anything else has kept me going and still continues to drive me every day. However, this is just the start of a long and steep uphill journey. Millions of dollars need to be raised before I start earning millions! In 2012, you started your career off with the Formula 4 National Championship in India and have progressed quite rapidly. What are your future plans? I'm glad to say that my progression has been really good. I have worked extremely hard for this and the results have shown. It is now time for me to compete at an international level. I am looking at a range of options. Be it Europe in the German Formula 3 Championship or Asia in the Formula Masters China Series – I need to see which one makes most sense and for which I can raise funds for. What is your message to aspiring race car drivers in India? I think there is tremendous scope for the sport in our country. But I feel that the companies, the government and the general population need to understand the sport and how it has so many different angles to it. It’s more than just cars going around in circles. I’d like to be frank with budding race car drivers – be very clear about what you expect from the sport. When it comes to funding, if you don’t have a wealthy family backing you, then be prepared to experience heartbreak on a daily basis. You could be the most promising talent in the world but sadly, without financial support, you cannot race. Motorsport requires wholehearted commitment to the sport. You will always need to be on top of your game, physically and mentally. So, one must look at racing in a professional way and always aim for the stars. At the end of the day, if you’re passionate about racing, there's nothing else that will make you happier! yi NOVEMBER 2014 Youth Incorporated 25

YOUTH INC LISTS THE WORLD’S BEST BUSINESS SCHOOLS IN ORDER OF THEIR RANK
W
elcome to the Youth Incorporated, Education Times and Rediff.com Global Business School Rankings 2014. Following up to our yearly business school rankings, we present to you this year’s rankings – based on responses received from the institutes themselves, current students enrolled in the institutes, alumni and feedback from recruiters. 1,400 institutes were considered and contacted for the purpose of the survey. All the answers were ranked and tabulated based on several criteria including recruiter perception, student diversity, diversity of faculty, innovation of programmes and value for money, among other things. The ranking covers the top 100 institutes in the world to pursue a full-time MBA programme. We also provided a top 10 ranking based on geographical distribution, a top 50 ranking each for finance, management and marketing specialisation courses as well as top 50 rankings each for online MBA courses and executive MBA courses. Lastly, an institute’s ranking for 2014 has been compared to their respective rankings from previous years to determine the performance of the institute over the years. We hope our in depth survey will guide MBA aspirants in making the right choice.

WHAT’S DIFFERENT SINCE 2013? Harvard University, Stanford University and University of Pennsylvania had consecutively secured the top three spots in 2012 and 2013. 2014 however, has seen a change – Stanford University gave way to the University of Pennsylvania at number two. Standing tall at number one is Harvard University with a perfect score of 100; University of Pennsylvania came in second with an almost perfect score of 99.8 followed by Stanford University with 99.7. A significant change was seen in the rankings of universities launched recently and also universities who have been in lower ranking spots. Brigham Young University went from its 89th rank in 2013 to 100 this year. University of St Gallen jumped from 99 last year to 89 this year. The top 20 spots however, continue to be governed by universities in the USA, UK, China, France, Spain and India.

WHERE INDIA STANDS? In 2013, IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta dropped from their 2012 positions at number 10 and 11 to 20 and 21 respectively. Although, this year, we expected a resurrection of sorts, there has been no change in their ranks. That being said, SP Jain Institute of Management has been seeing a rise in rank in each consecutive year. From its 2012 rank of 77, it went to 61 in 2013. And from 61, it has risen to 59 this year. Indian School of Business went from its rank of 16 in 2012 to 23 in 2013. This year however, its rank remained unchanged. While four of India’s top Institutes – IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta, Indian School of Business and SP Jain Institute of Management have been making appearances year after year, there has been no new Indian entrant in the list so far.

WHAT IS AN EXECUTIVE MBA? An executive MBA or EMBA, is a programme developed to meet the educational needs of managers and executives, allowing students to earn an MBA while working fulltime. Students remain employed while completing the degree, as the programme aims to complement their real-world experiences. AN EMBA VS MBA MBA and EMBA are both business degrees. But, the primary difference is in the kind of students they teach, the teaching methods and their duration. •While most MBA and EMBA courses require graduates, work experience is highly recommended for an MBA, but is compulsory for an EMBA. Some EMBA courses ask for a minimum of five years work experience and others are meant only for those in specific managerial posts. •If one was to pursue an MBA degree, then it would generally be taught full-time. The EMBA, on the other hand, holds classes on weekends and weeknights in order to accommodate the schedules of executives. Some EMBAs may also be conducted online. •Typically, an MBA degree can be completed in two years (one year in EU). An EMBA might take less than two years to finish. This, however, varies from institute to institute. •Often, employers fund an EMBA for their employees. Generally,
32 Youth Incorporated NOVEMBER 2014
26 Cover story.indd 32
29-10-2014 19:53:45
CUTIVE MBA employees with high potential and leadership skills are sponsored to do an EMBA programme. •Programme content modules taught in an EMBA course are similar to those taught in an MBA programme. These include business economics, business laws, marketing, finance and accounting, operations management, strategic management, human resources.
CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY Candidates accepted into an EMBA programme are usually in the midstage of their career or at a higher-level. As with an MBA, the EMBA also accepts graduates in any field. It is not just businessmen and executives who study for an EMBA, even doctors and lawyers are known to have completed EMBAs. THE PROS •Acceptance rates for EMBA programmes are higher than those of traditional MBA programmes •EMBAs accommodate the busy schedules of working executives, enabling them to manage work and their education at the same time •EMBA aspirants need not take a GMAT test. THE CONS •Loss of free time as work, commute and study clog up schedules •Fewer EMBA programmes than MBA programmes, so less choice for aspiring students •EMBAs are viewed by some recruiters as inferior to MBAs due to their part-time nature CONCLUSION An MBA degree and an EMBA degree have been designed keeping two very different types of students in mind. An MBA student is usually someone who has graduated from college in the last three to five years. For him, the

degree is more intensive owing to lack of extensive experience. On the other hand, an EMBA student is someone who has been working in his field for at least ten years and while he might be out of touch with classroom learning, he makes up for it with ample experience. However, both courses are rigorous and challenging in their own ways. An MBA graduate and an EMBA graduate usually cater to different job markets as they are both at different
stages of their career; thus, it is not common for an EMBA graduate and an MBA graduate to be pitted against one another for the same position. So, if you’ve just started working and are keen on gaining a competitive edge, then an MBA is for you. But, if you’re already at an advanced stage in your career and are aspiring to take on a senior position, while holding onto that day job, then an EMBA would be a more feasible option. WHAT IS AN ONLINE MBA? As opposed to a full-time MBA, an online MBA is one that a student can pursue while keeping his fulltime job. A popular choice amongst a number of students, this MBA allows for both education and employment simultaneously. WHY DO PEOPLE OPT FOR IT? People opt for online MBAs mainly for the flexibility that they offer. A student interested in pursuing a higher qualification need not quit his job as an online MBA allows one to study and work. FULL-TIME VS ONLINE A number of students cringe at the thought of an online MBA. The reason, it doesn’t hold much weightage in comparison to a full-time MBA. While this is true, an online MBA must be chosen keeping in mind the expected outcome. It works well for those looking to get promoted or to add-on to their already acquired knowledge.

TYPES OF ONLINE MBA Online programmes: Online MBA programmes do not require the student to visit a university or an institution. All education activities and course material are made available online. Combination programmes: Combination programmes are a mix of both distance learning and online teaching methods. Classes are conducted online as well as in physical classrooms. THE PROS • Convenient • Flexible • Admission policy is not rigid • All a student needs is an internet connection and the yearning to learn THE CONS • Not as significant as a full-time MBA • Lack of interaction with industry professionals • Lack of classroom learning, discussions, debates etc NOVEMBER 2014 Youth Incorporated 35

FACTORS CONSIDERED 1. Recruiter Perception – Identical surveys were sent to recruiters worldwide. The recruiters were asked to rate the institutes that they were most likely to recruit from. The recruiters were also asked to rate the students they have recruited from specific business schools on several criteria including leadership potential and strategic thinking. 2. Diversity of Students – The institutes were asked to report the total number of students on campus and what percentage of the students were international and speak two or more languages. Gender diversity of the students was also considered. 3. Diversity of Faculty – The institutes were asked to report the total number of faculty on campus and what percentage of the faculty was international, hold a doctorate degree and accredited with their own publishing material. Gender diversity of faculty was also considered. 4. Innovation of Programmes – We considered the different ways to construct degree programmes as well as the choice students have in terms of selecting electives. 5. Innovation in Teaching Methodologies – Institutes were asked to select different teaching methodologies that we considered innovative. Some of these included company visits, dual or multiple majors and course collaborations between different departments at the institute. Our list was selected after
surveying students across different campuses worldwide. 6. Value for Money – We considered students and alumni opinions on whether a particular institute was perceived as ‘value for money’. We also asked institutes to state the percentage of students who received some sort of funding from the institutes in terms of scholarships etc. 7. Campus Support – We asked the institutes, current students and alumni to select the different types of assistance provided by the student office or a similar body on campus. Our list was selected after surveying students across different campuses worldwide. 8. Career Service – We asked the institutes, current students and alumni about the availability and functioning of a career service cell and how active such a service was for the students. We also considered what percentage of students were actually placed through the institute’s career service cell, how long it look for such placements and what the average starting salaries were. 9. Exchange Programmes – Institutes were asked to report the percentage of students that opted for exchange programmes. We also considered the exchange students present on the institute’s campus. 10. Student Satisfaction – Current students and alumni were asked to rate their institutes on various factors including career services, attitude of staff and professors, location, and course content.

ACTUAL METHODOLOGY
We sent invitations to 1,400 institutes. Institutes were provided a password using which they could send us their completed survey online. They were asked to answer questions relating to full time faculty, career service, student and programme information and all the factors listed above. We also contacted current students and alumni of the institutes and asked them to rate specific statements which were pertaining to the factors we considered in this ranking. All the institutes preferred to send the survey links to their students and alumni directly. Over 14,000 recruiters were sent emails with a survey. The recruiter list was prepared from the responses of the institutes and also included internationally well known recruiters. The recruiters were asked to enlist institutes that they were likely to recruit from. Below is a summary of the factors and the weight-age given to each factor when we ranked the institutes Each factor was made up of a set of questions. The total percentage attributed to that factor was based on the average score of the responses multiplied by the assigned weightage. We then totalled the score from all factors and sorted the scores from highest to lowest. The institute with the highest score was ranked first.

SWITZERLAND Q: I would like to know about the medium of instruction in the various universities in Switzerland. Hamid The Universities of Fribourg, Neuchâtel, Geneva and Lausanne, as well as the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, are in the Frenchspeaking part of Switzerland. Fribourg is officially a bilingual university with courses offered both in French and German, while Italian is the teaching language at the Università della Svizzera Italiana, located in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. The universities of Basel, Bern, Lucerne, St.Gallen, Zurich and the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich are located in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. An increasing number of study programmes at Master's level are offered in English, thus a solid knowledge of English language is advisable for all prospective students.
You may look for jobs in marketing, sales, customer services, banking, retail, advertising, journalism, and public relations, etc. depending upon your own interests and abilities. By appearing for competitive examinations by the UPSC (e.g. Civil Services Examination, Combined Defence Services Examination or the Staff Selection Commission exams for graduates, or the IBPS Common Written Examination or other such exams you may take up government service or join public sector organizations. For career options as a sociologist, you have to complete your postgraduation in sociology. Further education after BA Sociology could be in law, journalism, business administration, social work, public relations, etc. Examples are indicative.

Without opting for maths and physics, rule out the option of science for plus two. However, if you can score in maths even without liking it, you could take up arts with economics, geography, sociology, psychology, literature, philosophyetc. Higher studies in Economics wouldn’t be advisable without studying maths till class 12th. In the commerce discipline too, having maths works advantageously. However, if you really cannot pursue maths, you can still choose arts or commerce. Professional courses like hotel management, law, company secretary, design, etc offered after class 12 do not demand the study of maths after class 10. Examples are indicative
SOCIOLOGY Q: What are the career options after BA honours sociology? Anuradha
GERMANY Q: What are the entry level qualifications for pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Germany? Are any English language proficiency tests required? Mohnish In Germany, every university is autonomous, so every study programme has its own set of criteria for admitting students. Hence, check the university website and specifically the programme you are interested in to find out the exact admission requirements. The database of study programmes with English as the sole or primary medium of instruction, called International Degree Programmes (IDPs) is available at https://www.daad.de/deutschland/studienangebote/ international-programs/en/. “G
ame after game after game, I realise now what’s most important in my life: Football. Show me something more thrilling than a perfect volley; tell me you’ve never dreamed of the immaculate strike and that passionate moment when an entire nation holds it breath. Tell me that football is not our one common language when the world stops for 90 minutes to be witness to that one special moment. You could tell me I’m wrong; some may say it’s just a game, but this is about heroes and tribes, loyalties and devotion; it’s our battle and our belief, our commitment and our passion; this is our faith.” Any football junkie would recognise that these are the opening lines from the classic FIFA 2006 gaming franchise. Personally, I don’t think there are any other words that can so succinctly describe how a football fan feels about this beautiful game. Heroes, tribes, loyalties, devotion, commitment and passion. These factors can take years to develop among fans and frankly, are much easier said than done. The real question is that in a nation of over a billion people who revere cricket, can Indian league football evoke a similar response? Could we possibly witness the birth of Indian football’s very own Sachin Tendulkar during the course of the ISL? After the initial launch of the ISL, multiple questions were raised with regards to the financial viability, player sustainability and the long term reach of the ISL. Will the ISL really deliver what it promises? That’s one verdict that will have me glued to the idiot box until the last whistle.
THE LOWDOWN
The Indian Super League is a first of its kind football championship that brings together the love for football from across oceans and hemispheres alike. Enabling Indian and globally renowned footballers to play together in league style games, consisting of eight different teams named after Indian cities (à la IPL for the newbies). The teams are: Atletico de Kolkata, Chennayin FC, Delhi Dynamos FC, FC Goa, FC Pune City, Kerala Blasters FC, Mumbai City FC and Northeast United FC. The
"I know that the people there watch the Premier League and I'm convinced that with such a huge population, it will take off" Arsene Wenger, Arsenal FC teams are named after cities based on the popularity of the sport in cities across India. The ISL is committed to two major initiatives: first, to promote the love for football with a world class domestic championship and second, to pledge organic growth to a 'grassroots development programme' in order to engage the Indian populace to pursue football in its true spirit and glory whilst ushering in a platform to unearth indigenous football talent. The ISL will have the eight different teams battle it out in a league format each day
until the 10 December 2014, after which four semi-finalist teams will play to bag the final two spots in the finale. The ISL boasts of a whopping 15 crore rupees in cash prizes, with eight crores, four crores and three crores allocated to the winner, runners up and the two semifinalists respectively.
WILL ISL GO THE IPL WAY?
India is a country where two religions co-exist, cricket and Bollywood. When these two heady religions combined they created a manic concoction of something that falls nothing short of extravagant, addictive and something that can keep a nation glued to their television screens for hours at a stretch – it created the Indian Premier League in 2008. Whether the IPL changed the way cricket is played is debatable, but what remains indisputable is that it changed the way stakeholders, players and the audience perceived a sport. One might argue that the ISL will revolutionise Indian football, just like the IPL did for cricket. The involvement of A-list celebrities like Ranbir Kapoor, John Abraham, Salman Khan and Varun Dhawan seems like another rabbit out of the IPL’s hat. Against that back story comes another sporting championship built on a similar formula with a slight twist: this time around, is it football that the nation will thump and roar for? Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for the Indian Super League.

The widespread impact of mass communication and broadcasting has transformed the Indian lifestyle. From the acceptance of western apparel to the consumption of the English Premier League and La Liga, football viewership has come a long way to carving its niche in India. According to a latest report, a historic 170 million Indian TV viewers tuned in to the ISL during opening week. On day one, the ISL was viewed by approximately 75 million people – 12 times that of the opening day of the FIFA 2014 World Cup. These aren’t just figures that startle, these are figures that give one a direct insight into the untapped potential of football in a nation brimming with talent. The ISL clearly has a substantial role if not a vital one – to demystify the workings of Indian football and boost the growth of football clubs and training activities in India. Grooming talent fit for play at the national and international levels could become a harbinger of growth for the ISL. The ISL player mix ensures that every team features seven foreign players, one marquee player and four players from the local city (out of the 14 spots reserved in each squad for Indian players). This augurs well for Indian football as having international talent present can improve the quality of the game at the local level.
ISL – THE AIM
The ISL envisions to make India a ‘global football power and qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup’, along with refurbishing sports administration and marketing, inviting investments towards the development of the game and create a talent pool of skilled players that can represent India at various national and international tournaments. ISL – THE WAY AHEAD
The ISL makes it mandatory for team owners to invest in a grassroots development programme in the city of the team that they own. Under this programme, all the team owners have been asked to pool in `2 crore, along with the assigning of development managers who would be responsible for grooming and headhunting talent from the millions of potential football superstars that the workshop aims to reach. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) aims to raise the sports profiling standards in India by harnessing the impact of this workshop. Training and theory sessions in the workshop encompass the basic skills of football along with a solid dose of team spirit and motivation.

Tendulkar, “ISL will change the face of Indian football”, surely, with the inclusion of international football superstars such as Luis Garcia, David Trezeguet, Freddie Ljungberg, Nicolas Anelka, Alessandro Del Piero and Robert Pires, a helping hand seems to be in play for our Indian footballers. To illustrate, Del Piero, an absolute legend of the game holds more than 19 years of competitive football experience under his belt and will certainly prove to be a vital asset for the Delhi Dynamos FC.

PITCH-SIDE VIEWS
esai Mayur D Football expert, Celebrity Manager and an ardent Manchester United fan Whether the ISL will provide the much needed impetus to football and put India on the global football map is yet to be seen. Mayur Desai a football expert, relays his opinion: “The overall packaging of the league has been top notch. There is already enough consumption of European
leagues by audiences in India and the ISL will bridge the gap between Indian and world football. It has already generated enough noise and people have taken notice. From a marketing/PR standpoint, it is quite a success. Surely, the world has its eye on India and sees tremendous potential here. In the short term, it will give the Indian players some valuable exposure of playing with top professionals, a new level of preparedness for games whereas towards mid- term and long term, more children will consider football as a profession. That's where I feel ISL will play a valuable role. If this doesn't lift the game in India, I don't know what will?!” On the stark similarities between the ISL and IPL business models he says, “I’d say the IPL derived a lot more from football than the other way around. The spectator value of the sport also counts, if it's
We asked Mayur if he thinks that the ISLs grassroots initiative will actually take flight or never get off the ground. He quips, “The ISL has made it mandatory for all teams to invest at the grassroots level, so that's a positive. The franchises will then become epicentres of developing talent in their respective catchment areas and that will eventually add to the community feel of every club. Imagine having a Mumbai lad playing a crucial role for Mumbai City FC and then going on to score a winning goal for the national team - that would be something.”
WOULD YOU RATHER WATCH AN ISL MATCH OR AN EPL/ LA LIGA MATCH?
Football junkie, Rylan Rodrigues is a 19-yearold football fan who was a 2010 import at Manchester United Soccer School, UK. Football as a game has found a strong fan following amongst the youth today who swear by the sport and pursue it in all its glory. We ask Rylan Rodrigues if the ISL would serve as an encouragement for younger players. He replies, “It will definitely encourage young players as they have only seen marquee players of the likes of Del Piero, Anelka on TV, but now, thanks to the ISL, players will be given
a good sport to play but not to watch, then that’s a problem. As for the celebrity involvement, I don't see it as a negative at all, if they can pull crowds to the stadium then it’s only a plus; I'm confident the beautiful game will do the rest.”

the chance to play with these internationally recognised players.” He adds excitedly, “Mumbai City FC will be a treat to watch because of the slew of amazing players that are part of the team.”
Yes, I would prefer an EPL match over ISL. As, there is a huge difference in the quality of football and players, ISL will take many years to compete with EPL. RELATIONSHIPS
Befriending your partner’s buddies is the key to a good relationship. Razi Sheikh scours the truth behind this statement
Friends forever or never?
Y
ou're out for an evening with your partner in tow but unlike the romantic dates that set off your relationship, this one isn't going to be all that intimate. You walk into the restaurant, you spot them and you head over to the family size table. The only problem, you don’t see your family or your friends, you see a group of strangers all staring at you with eager eyes – turns out, these strangers are your partner’s friends. If relationships are about acceptance and adjustments, then extended socialisation has to be a part of it. It's not something most of us would welcome but if done right, it can do wonders for your relationship. But if messed up, it can cost you a headache you’d rather avoid. 54 Youth Incorporated NOVEMBER 2014
54 Relationships.indd 54
10/29/2014 10:33:04 PM
Here's a lowdown on socialising with your partner’s friends:
HOW SOCIAL ARE YOU?
If you're not the social kind or someone not likely to be seen hanging around talking to people you barely know – this mandatory meetingyour-partner’s-friends thing is going to be tough for you. But if you're an extrovert, you'll get around quite easily, at least the first time. However,
if these meetings go from just the weekends to every single day of the week, it can get a little challenging especially if you consider them to be obligations. In such situations it is best to keep an open mind and take each day as it comes. You will soon learn to take your partner’s friends as your own.
socially incompatible. The only way out of such a situation would be to discuss it with your partner. Share with them your qualms; you will feel much better and you might also get a chance to clear out any kind of negativity or misunderstandings, if there might be any.
MIX AND MINGLE
Dealing with your partner’s friends is an issue big enough to jeopardise both your emotional health and your relationship with your partner. Before delving into that area ask yourself if you’re genuinely trying or if it is just a social obligation. Mokshda Kaul says, "Personally, I think befriending your partner’s friends is a good thing. But there is a need to set some ground rules between you and your partner. As long as it is not interfering with the quality time that you two are supposed to spend with them, it's alright. More than an obligation it might end up helping you get to know your partner better. Sometimes it even helps your partner; they might feel secure knowing that their significant other and his best buds get along and are close." In a normal scenario, that's how it should be. But there can always be a downside to it. She further adds, "However, it shouldn't be eating away from the precious time between you and your partner. That would just be unfair." yi
If I may, unlike relationships, friendships are known to last significantly longer. Your partner has known them for long; they've even been together way before you came along. If your partner is serious about you, chances are they will introduce you to their friends. There, you could take that as a sign of (maybe) a longterm relationship. Keeping that in mind, try your best to make their friends your friends. As much as you might dislike it, let’s just say this will do your relationship some real good.
BACK SHELF JUDGEMENTS
Friends being great and all aside, what if your partner's tribe of friends are a coterie of douchebags? Of course, you cannot and should not divulge feelings like these to your partner as it might create problems in your relationship. Wait on it for a few weeks; it's possible that you're being judgemental and biased towards them. But there's also a genuine case of you and them being

Marry or
Live In? Nisha JamVwal dispels the myths surrounding live in relationships
to walk out and look for another partner in a pique, exasperated with some minor problems of the moment or phase. The issues and their magnanimity pass and you find you could have worked it out but you’ve moved on in the heat of those angry weeks. In a marriage it would have entailed sorting it out.
S
o, Angela Jolie and Brad Pitt took ages before deciding to get married? With half a dozen kids and six years of living in I’d say better late than never? Quite a feat looking at the long list of live in relationships ending in break ups where the two people who were once inseparable going their own (bitter) ways. And this brings me to the classic premise about live in relationships – should one get into a live in relationship or stick to the conventional path?
The insecurities of being secure
My personal opinion is that if you’re looking for marriage and commitment then it’s not an idea that might lead to a long term union. There is no such thing as a ‘trial marriage’. You can live together, have sex, put your dirty clothes in the same washing machine and share the same room but that does not a marriage make. It’s not even a preparation for marriage. I think it’s a convenience of sorts without the attendant responsibilities. The live in couple seldom feels secure in the relationship and the desire to create palatable solutions to work towards a future together is absent. I’ve often seen couples that live together seldom work out their problems. It is easier
Friends, lovers or…
Lovers, especially in the initial phase, that live together most often vehemently insist that a piece of paper is of no consequence especially in a day and age when divorces are available ‘nearly overnight’. They revel in their companionship and passion when the going is good. However, when they hit a rough patch they adopt cursory efforts to patch it up, most often lacking the tenacity to battle the problems to create a lasting intimacy. Recently, I was on the panel of a television news show where a heated discussion ensued on this topic. To my stance opposing participants pointed out that the stability marriage offers especially in the Indian context, is more on a functional basis. The raison d’être of all enduring ‘arranged’ marriages that seems to surprise the west is monetary. Whereas, a live in relationship they vehemently argue is largely derived from an urgent and driving need for emotional and physical togetherness and intimacy. Most single people know that on the surface, marriage looks like something that will give us happiness, save us from loneliness, is something to strive to have some day, and something that will be a major mile-marker in our lives but that may not always be the case, they argue! If you've been lucky enough to
POINT OF VIEW see the full spectrum of marriage by association to family and friends, by now you know that it is not a gift that one must take for granted. If you are married, then you have a deeper understanding of marriage from your personal experience. Not only do you know about happiness and sadness, but you have also felt it at a gut level and have grappled with working at it and working out things together.
Wise men say only fools rush in
I’ve thought long and hard and been party to perennial debates on the subject and while I agree that a lot can be said for live in relationships, my personal take is that I might still prefer the enhanced quality that life renders to the title ‘wife’. However, it has to be said that human relationships especially the man-woman realm, has always defied fixed formulas. It’s about what works best for the two people involved in the relationship. However in the dizzy throes of a relationship, serious considerations may not be taken into account in the euphoria and delusionary cloud that a heady romance leads you into. The decision should not be frivolous or transitory and important considerations like family, future, monetary security need to be ensured. These days marriages fall apart like clichéd nine pins, with the ripples of pain extending to the offspring. This is why both situations should be entered into after much thought, commitment, responsibility and oodles of ability to care, give and understand the need for individuality to ensure any degree of success and happiness. However, as I mentioned in my column some months ago, marriage is an eventuality you can look at after making life work for you. It is a major responsibility and I’d strongly recommend that it can wait. Thirty is the new twenty, isn’t it? yi Nisha JamVwal Tweet Nisha at @nishjamvwal Blog address nishajamvwal.blogspot.in Email her at nishajamvwal@gmail.com NOVEMBER 2014 Youth Incorporated 61

WAKE ME UP!
Rise and shine with these fun alarm apps
MONTH
ALARMY (SLEEP IF U CAN) Free on Android
Alarmy is the innovative solution for those who just can’t seem to get up on time, even with an alarm clock. This app has been cleverly designed to force you to get out of bed. You set it up by registering a photo of an area or room in your house. Then once the alarm is set, the ONLY way to make it stop ringing is to get out of bed and go take a photo of the registered area. It’s been awarded as the World's Most Annoying Alarm App by various websites.
ALARM CLOCK FREE
WALK ME UP! Platforms: iOS, Android
Free: Android and iOS
Walk Me Up unlike any other alarm app, stops ringing only when you have walked a certain number of steps. That’s right, it 'walks' you up! And this app also has intelligent algorithms to detect shaking. So, if you try to cheat, the app wouldn't hesitate to punish. All those sleepy heads out there who find it difficult to get out of bed, this is the perfect alarm for you.
Alarm Clock Free turns your phone into a beautiful digital clock and alarm clock for free! It even displays live, local weather conditions and temperature that makes you know about the weather immediately when you wake up. It’s a beautiful traditional alarm clock that showcases its simplicity with its 'shake to snooze' feature.
ALARM CLOCK XTREME Free: Android
Another great example is Alarm Clock Xtreme, a service which first started to capture attention thanks to their math-based wake-up techniques. This app will only deactivate alarms if the user solves a couple of simple mathematical questions to prove he is awake. Other features allow users to set a random song from the playlist as the alarm and various snoozing options.
SLEEPBOT - SLEEP CYCLE ALARM Free: Android, iOS
SleepBot is an intuitive smart alarm and beautiful sleep cycle tracker that lets you record movements and sounds throughout the night along with performing tasks of waking you up. Customise how you want to sleep and wake up gently each morning during your lightest sleep phase. Listen to soothing ambient soundtracks as you fall asleep or when you get up. Use SleepBot to see what disturbances are causing you to wake up at night, or to help you fall asleep. Share your sleep stats for fun online, or even for diagnostics with doctors. IS IT SAFE TO BUY THE CHINESE BRAND, XIAOMI PHONES? Chinese brand Xiaomi and its smart phone series has been creating waves in the gadget market for some time now. Reason: latest features retailing for an extremely affordable price. So, is it safe to invest in a technologically advanced phone irrespective of the Chinese market it is manufactured in?
Xiaomi has been in the news recently for all the wrong reasons. The Indian Air Force has warned its officers and their family members against using Xiaomi smartphones citing security concerns. The IAF suggested that Xiaomi devices send data to the Chinese establishment. Despite these security concerns, as a civilian, I'd still say it's safe to buy Xiaomi phones. It might be a Chinese brand, but they have not compromised on the quality of their devices. Chinese apps like WeChat and UC Browser made their impact on the Indian market a while ago. However, when it came to phones, Chinese products were dismissed as being cheap or fake. In China, Xiaomi is a smartphone company which has always been compared to the likes of Apple. It's China's third largest smartphone maker and has transformed Xiaomi into a company that doesn’t operate like a typical smartphone vendor, but is still successful enough to become one of China’s top tech firms. Its business model is the 'Xiaomi' model which sells phones in predefined lots online only. This is one of the reasons why the company is able to avoid 20% to 30% costs on distribution and logistics. It also has a very minimal profit margin over the cost. Unlike other rivals, neither does Xiaomi spend money on traditional advertisements nor does it
have a major network of its own physical stores that it needs to maintain. Instead, it has done away with those costs selling its phones directly to consumers through e-commerce. Another notable detail, some of the senior most executives at Xiaomi have worked with Microsoft, Motorola, Yahoo and Google's Android team. Hence they know the OS inside out. Qualcomm is also an investor in the company, so it is able to procure components easily and probably also optimise the OS properly for Qualcomm chipsets. Their phones offer the best possible hardware at that
particular price point. Xiaomi prides itself in the fact that it offers what some call a 'living OS', which gets updated on a weekly basis improving the hardware experience over the products' lifecycle. Although the software and hardware are great, the availability and after-sale services have proved to be a big challenge for Xiaomi. However, the bright side is that Xiaomi has set up 36 service centres in India including two exclusive Mi centres in Delhi and Mumbai. Indeed, it is a Chinese brand, but they don't sell typically Chinese phones.

BEYOND THE SCREEN
Actors often channel their creativity by starring in TV shows about subjects that they are passionate about. But some take it a step forward and create them. Here are six such shows actors have created and stared in MINDY KALING: THE MINDY PROJECT We fell in love with Mindy Kaling when she played the lovable but dorky Kelly Kapoor on The Office. So when we found that she was creating and starring in her own show The Mindy Project, we were immediately on board. From the first episode itself we became immersed in Mindy’s tumultuous personal and professional life. Here are some more shows that actors have not only created, but also starred in:
AMY POEHLER: PARKS AND RECREATION
One of the writers who created Parks and Recreation, Amy Poehler also stars in the hugely popular show. The show has through its run seen several movie stars make guest appearances and has won top honours including several Emmy and Golden Globe awards. Poehler herself won a Golden Globe for best actress in a TV series for her role in Parks and Recreation.
JERRY SEINFELD: SEINFELD
Seinfeld was one of the most popular sitcoms in the 90s which is still broadcast on TV today. It chronicled the lives of 4 eccentric friends living in Manhattan. The main cast were friends of Seinfeld in real life so the on-screen chemistry was quick and effortless. Seinfeld’s clever scripts, character interaction accompanied by witty humour made the show a cult phenomenon.
TINA FEY: 30 ROCK
Feminist icon, popular comedian and general badass Tina Fey’s onscreen alterego is just as endearing as her true self. 30 Rock is the story of a 30-something woman who is careerdriven, struggling with romantic relationships and forced to work with quite a unique set of staff. The comic timing of Alec Baldwin and Fey keeps the audience enthralled.
LENA DUNHAM- GIRLS
When Lena Dunham is not breaking traditional stereotypes and inspiring young women to accept themselves, she writes for Girls. The show came under immense scrutiny for its misrepresentation of women, portrayal of people suffering through STDs and displaying life in New York in a negative light. But Dunham’s logical justifications were enough to repress critics.
MARK GATISS- SHERLOCK
Staying true to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original vision while also keeping the show adept with modern times is not easy. However, Mark Gatiss not only managed to include both these factors in Sherlock, but he also took the risk of acting in it as Sherlock Holmes’ brother. Gatiss kept the original sharp interaction between characters intact and used effective editing to tell old stories in a new light.

PINK FLOYD
Pink Floyd’s last album The Division Bell released in 1994 was the seed for their latest album. Releasing on 7 November, The Endless River includes 20 hours worth of unreleased material all written by the band. What a treat!
Popular songs: Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here, Time Why we’re waiting: In 1980, ‘The Wall’ spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard. We expect their next album to break more such records.
RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS
Not exactly a comeback but after releasing a critically acclaimed album in 2011, the wait seems too long. RHCP has kept producing upbeat music impressing the changing tastes of their fans and constantly remaining one of the top names in rock.
QUEEN
Freddie Mercury’s over-the-top vocals and soulful lyrics made Queen a pioneer of the rock movement. On 10 November 2014 their new compilation album Queen Forever which includes original tracks and vocals by late lead singer Mercury will be due for release.
Popular songs: Snow, Under the bridge and Californication Why we’re waiting: For 30 years RHCP has stayed committed to their funk rock roots but have still succeeded in re-inventing their music. We can’t wait to see them make some more magic.
Popular songs: We are the champions, We will rock you, Bohemian Rhapsody Why we’re waiting: Even after decades their top hits are played regularly at radio stations.
GUNS AND ROSES
After releasing Chinese Democracy, the band had already finished recording a follow-up and a remix album. After the departure of their main guitarist Slash, fans are waiting to hear the band’s latest creations.
Popular songs: Sweet Child O’ Mine, November Rain, Paradise City Why we’re waiting: The band’s new guitarist, Daren Jay Ashba claims that Guns and Roses’ newest production reflects their music from the 80s.
AC/DC
You must’ve heard Highway to Hell in countless movies and TV shows; AC/DC was the band behind this timeless classic. Their upcoming album Rock or Bust is only 35 minutes long and was made without founder and rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young.
Popular songs: Back in Black, For those about to Rock Why we’re waiting: After Young’s retirement due to health reasons, we are curious to see how the band copes with his absence. NOVEMBER 2014 Youth Incorporated 69

INSPIRATIONAL CHILDREN IN MOVIES
As children we often learn more from the wide lens of a film camera than the four walls of a classroom. This children’s day, we look at some of the most admirable little ones in movies
GAVROCHE – LES MISERABLES
Gavroche starts off as a pick-pocketer on the streets of poverty-struck Paris struggling to find his next meal. But with his courage, presence of mind and maturity he starts off a revolution against a despotic regime. Did we mention the awesome singing chops? Why he is inspirational: When Gavroche sacrificed his life for his revolutionary friends he taught us that children too are capable of doing heroic acts.
MATILDA WORMWOODMATILDA
NEVILLE LONGBOTTOMHARRY POTTER
Living with neglectful parents and dealing with angry teachers makes five year old Matilda frustrated. Feeling lonely, she begins to find solace in books. But soon she develops telekinetic powers and embarks on a mission to teach berating adults and her obnoxious teacher – Trunchbull a lesson. Why she’s inspirational: Matilda sees the world through her innocent eyes while letting her imagination wander. She taught us to keep the curious child in us alive.
Neville’s life was doomed before it even started – his parents were tortured so badly by death eaters that they had no memory of him. As a child Neville was neglected by his teachers and often ridiculed by bullies. But he showed his mettle when he destroyed the last horcrux and proved that he was a true Gryffindor. Why he is inspirational: Neville taught us that we should never underestimate anyone, even ourselves.
BRUNO- THE BOY IN THE STRIPPED PAJAMAS
A tragic story of the holocaust, told from the innocent view of a little boyThe Boy in the Stripped Pajamas is an unforgettable tale about loyal friendship in the face of adversity. Why he is inspirational: Bruno taught us that when we make a mistake, we should apologise and rectify it. Losing a fight is better than losing a friend.
FOREST GUMP- FOREST GUMP
Forest Gump is an epic romantic drama about a slow-witted and naive child who grows up to be a soldier and a phenomenal tennis player, keeping his noble heart intact in spite of facing cruelty every day. Why he is inspirational: Forest’s journey taught us that with dedication and hard-work, anything can be achieved.
HUSHPUPPY- BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD
Nine year old Quvenzhane Wallis’ mind-blowing performance won her an Academy Award nomination – the youngest actress to ever receive an Oscar nomination. Playing the role of Hushpuppy, the film tells a story about a tumultuous relationship between a feisty child and an arrogant father. Why she is inspirational: Even when a storm is threatening her little community, Hushpuppy remains positive about the future. She taught us that no matter what atrocities we face, we should remain optimistic.

ANCIENT ALIENS AND MODERN MANIACS Misquita’s sophomore book, a mystery thriller, hypnotizes you from the very first page. Linguistics Inc launched by capitalist Mark Steinberg makes a breakthrough in communication. Journalists, multinationals and businessmen wrestle to gain its control making written and spoken word history. But Steinberg’s motives are sinister; he is fighting to gain a ‘Book of Thot’ which contains ancient secrets of language. Under the facade of scientific development, he intends to usher an age of global mind control. Their only obstacle is
Lance Michener who is racing against the odds to prevent permanent damage. The pace remains fast as the setting changes dramatically from one location to another and the characters are described in necessary detail. Misquita reveals information gradually keeping the reader starving for answers till the last page. But his biggest achievement is the action scenes which are breathtakingly written. With a thrilling plot, convincing characters, cutting-edge technology and detailed action, ‘Secret of the scribe’ is an adrenaline junkie’s dream. - Purva Indulkar
QUICK FIRE WITH DOUGLAS MISQUITA 1. You dedicated ‘Secret of the scribe’ to your Father. What influence has he had on you over the years? With reference to the book dedication, my Dad would take me to the movies right from when I was little. At an impressionable age, I learnt what it felt to be fascinated and drawn into another world for two hours or so… and that has a great influence on how I wish to enthrall readers through my books. 2. What inspired you to write the book? The proliferation of communication technology and devices, their ease of access and the velocity with which they are integrated into our lives. I thought to myself, what if a technology giant invented something so fantastic that it was bought by almost everyone, and then that technology was used to insidiously control people. It’s evident in how much data our mobiles collect about us. 3. What kind of research did you undertake to ensure historical and scientific accuracy? The Internet has made research easier – but one must be careful of misinformation. I researched Egyptian mythology from various sites, based my locations and geography on Google Earth maps, and used real-life experiences and archeological sites from my visit to Egypt for most of the third part of the book. CUISINE- Asian, Chinese FOOD AND DRINK- Buzzing with patrons of all age groups, Five Fat Monks draws customers for its scrumptious food and casual vibe. Along with its food, it has quite a unique idea behind its service; positioning itself as a quick-service restaurant, the food here is served in plastic, throw-away containers that take ‘casual dining’ to a new level. A patron is handed over a menu card comprising different sauces, ingredients, proteins (chicken, lamb, veggies etc), and options for rice and noodles. Depending on a person’s tastes and mood, he can customise a dish from start to finish. Going home byAlthough Vikas Bahl starring Alia Bhatt we are in full support of causes which promote
safety of women, Bahl’s short film for creating awareness didn’t strike a chord with us. The heavy breathing and heart beats in the background score added another level of fear but the lack of dialogue makes the film’s message ambiguous. Although everyone on the internet is going gaga over the video (it’s Alia Bhatt, duh!), the video itself is could have put the point across better.

Robin in Zack Synder’s ‘Batman VS Superman’ to be a woman!
Rumour has it that Jena Malone, who played the fiesty Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire might be playing Batman’s sidekick in ‘Batman VS Superman’. We are excited to see Zack Synder’s efforts to bring the justice league together after the first film Man of Steel.
