handpasses back befo f re kicking the ball fo fo f rward. These teams both know how to employ the tactic — which can work out how best to restrict it? The Eagles have done everything right. They got better as the season went along, peaked at the pointy end, finished top, and won straight through to the grand final in convincing fa f shion. But I can’t go past the CMS Crows in this contest. Perhaps it’s having watched the Crows three times in as many weeks, but they have a seriously impressive side. They finally put it all together fo f r a full fo f ur quarters last week and it was hands down the best display of f oty I’ve seen all year.r.r I have absolutely no doubt fo the Eagles can take it right up to the Crows and defe f at them. They won convincingly the last time fe these sides played, but that was way back on July 6. A lot has changed since then — Edwards wasn’t playing fo f r the Crows that day fo f r one. Befo f re I sign off fo ff,f, thanks to everyone fo ff f r reading my column this year,r,r and who knows, I might be back again next season. Until then I present my final tip of 2019: At the fif nal siren... CMS Crows w by one point. ws

The Eagles will need to find an answer fo f r Babidge as he moves fo f rward. The Eagles pose similar problems. They also have a spearhead at full fo f rward who can tear any game apart. To T dd Button or maybe Josef Builder would be a possible match-up fo f r big Scott Mumfo f rd, although the in-fo fo f rm Liam Cocks has the fo best combination of size and strength to try to nullify f him. fy Through the middle, Nathan Allen will lead the Eagles as he has all year,r,r winning the hard ball, although Crows Josh Hoyle and Murphy Short are also in-and-under extractors. Nic Secaff f ien, Brad ff Robertson and Te T ej e ay Halkias are all damaging when they get their hands on the ball, and have put it down the throats of the Eagles’ fo f rwards all year long. Both teams have a rotating cast of talls who can ruck depending on what’s required and I expect this area to be level. Both have also been successful setting up around the ball, firing quick

Southern Eagles v CMS Crows It all comes down to this. Nine teams entered and only two remain, as the premiership shield is destined to travel south. The CMS Crows have taken the hard road to the grand final, defe f ating Wallaroo, Moonta and fe Paskeville in consecutive weeks. The Southern Eagles, on the other hand, required just one victory — also against Pasky — to reach the big game. There is no right or wrong way to head into a grand final. The Eagles have had time to rest weary bodies, whereas the Crows have been battle hardened. Both sides have been building momentum fo f r the whole second half of the season and are ready to reach peak perfo f rmance. fo Both have a couple of injury concerns, but none are fresh — the fe f w players in question have all been out fo f r a while now and their teams have continued to succeed. In the event any of them can return fo f r the final it will be a bonus, but make no
mistake, neither of these teams has a weakness that needs to be addressed. Perhaps the most exciting thing about these teams is just how many talented young locals are among their ranks. For the Crows, Max Litster has been unbelievable in the finals, playing like a veteran despite the fa f ct he won’t be old enough to buy beers on silly Sunday. y For the Eagles, Joel y. Tilbrook has kicked seven goals in his past three matches. In both cases, these are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to talented youths. No matter what happens at Wallaroo this Saturday, y y, these clubs have incredibly bright futures. Looking at the match-ups, there is intrigue right across the ground. Crows’ Ben Edwards has proven impossible to stop since moving to full fo f rward. Few if any defe f nders in the league can match his fe height and athleticism, but Matt Barlow might come the closest. The problem fo f r the Eagles is that would take Barlow out of his usual intercept marking role. If it’s not him, the responsibility will f ll on the shoulders of Daniel Redden who has fa stood tall all year.r.r To T m Babidge started in the

Crows v Moonta in the big game Report by b
“Straight Shooter” What a year,r,r it only fe f els like yesterday we started the season and now we find ourselves at grand final week. A big congratulations to all sides playing this Saturday, y what an absolute y, honour.r.r The A grade finals series has been an interesting one, the Crows won through y while Moonta and Kadina fo y, f ught it easily, out in Yo Y rketown and Moonta won by fo f ur goals to secure their grand final spot. It was a great contest, Moonta had control of the game early befo f re Kadina made fo a stunning comeback to close the gap to five goals at three-quarter time. But Moonta’s early lead was too much f r Kadina to overcome. fo Grace Chapman was Kadina’s best, working hard to get the ball to her goalies all day, y while fo y, f r Moonta goalie Ta T mara Lodge left f no opportunity fo ft f r rebounds. Crows and Moonta battled in the B grade and, while Crows won by seven goals, it was a great display of netball. The Crows have a team in every senior game on Saturday so there will be a sea of red, gold and navy in Wallaroo.
A GRA R DE RA CMS Cro r ws ro w v Moonta I want to say this will be a spectacular display of netball that will go goal fo f r goal but I am confident Crows have this game in the bag. Don’t get me wrong, Moonta is an elite side in its own right, but we are yet to see the Demons truly kick into a gear that is good enough to take on the undefe f ated fe top team. These sides are young and will run all day, y so reading the ball and causing errors y, that result in turnovers will be a priority. y y. YPNA best and fa f irest, Crows centre Felicity Kemp, will control the court fo f r her team against opponent Claudia Hatcher.r.r T mara Lodge and Alicia Moonta goalies Ta Cross will need to be accurate as the McSkimming sisters, Melissa and Lauren, will jump at the opportunity to rebound. This Crows team knows how to win a grand final and combat the pressure extremely well, which is what Moonta’s young side including Libby Adams and Lauren Pratt will need to do to settle into the game. Moonta’s experienced defe f nders Adele fe Keleher and Alex Prokopec will be all over goalies Sasha McSkimming and Bronwyn
Farrow, w who wiill need to be on theiir toes at w, all times. It is going to be a ripper game to watch whatever the outcome but my bet is Crows will go back to back aft f er a sensational ft undefe f ated season led by Amanda Pitt. fe At th t e fi f nal wh w is i tl t e... Cro r ws ro w by 15 goals l. ls B GRA R DE RA Ard r ro rd r ssan v CMS Cro r ws ro w It seems not having an A grade has well and truly paid off f fo ff f r the Roos as they enter their first B grade grand final in years. Every time these teams have met it has been a fierce and close contest with not much between them. This Crows team is experienced when it comes to finals which could be the upper hand they need to win. Ardrossan, the underdog, boasts key defe f nder Lizzie Cane who in fe many cases carries and guides the young side to victory. y Crows GK and YPNA B y. grade best and fa f irest Hannah Short will be all over Ardrossan goalie Madeline Kuhndt and will try to rattle her early as she rarely misses once she gets her eye in. Crows goalies Jacqui Baillie and Leah McDonnell will have to back themselves in this game. This will be the game of the day. y At th y. t e fi f nal wh w is i tl t e... I
O
am very proud of the way our team and club have performed this season. We have been able to develop new and younger players into our senior ranks and then also see some of our experienced players learn new strategies and continue to improve their game, it is what makes coaching at this club so rewarding. The fact we have gone through the season undefeated I don’t believe impacts on the grand final game. I’m proud of the way our team has performed throughout the season, but the outcomes of the previous games have no bearing on this week’s game. I will be asking the girls to continue their focus on our team values and processes we have worked hard on all season. It is so hard to focus on just a couple of players within the Moonta side, as they are strong and experienced across all positions. Obviously, their goal circle is elite with both Alicia Cross and Tamara Lodge, and our defensive unit will need to work together tirelessly to combat CMS Crows their speed and accuracy. Adele Keleher is playing amazing netball and we will need to be aware of her ability to come off and read the play. It would be a huge achievement for our club to go back to back. That sort of success doesn’t happen often in sport and if our team is able to achieve that Saturday I believe it will be due to the team and club pursuit to continually develop their game. Our key focus will be to stick to our team processes we have attempted to execute every week throughout the season.

ur season started a little slowly with a few early losses due to not having a full team of players. Those early losses impacted on our position coming into finals and we were placed third on the ladder. Making it into the grand final is something we have had to work hard on, not feeling overly confident we would make it. We will need to focus on playing a consistent, hard four quarters of netball and apply pressure right down the court. Crows are a very well-structured team and we have to make sure we have the correct match-up of positions down the entire court. We have a very good defensive line up with Alex Prokopec, Adele Keleher and Bella Congdon who have been consistent throughout the season. Our midcourt young guns Lucy Prior, Claudia Hatcher, Lauren Pratt and Libby Adams have shown their strength of improvement. Goalies Alicia Cross and Tamara Lodge have an enormous amount of experience, especially in finals — so we definitely have key players in each position. Moonta Crows’ key players include Felicity Kemp in the centre who moves down the court with speed and essentially controls the game. Defender Melissa McSkimming applies a vast amount of pressure on our attack and provides lots of speed down the court. Crows goalies Sasha McSkimming and Bronwyn Farrow are very consistent and accurate and their shooting percentage is second to none. We will have to play consistently good netball with a very low error rate, while also applying constant pressure on all Crows players, if we want the win.
