HILE certain aspects of Christmas in Kadina celebrations have changed, the majority is the same. This year’s event will begin with a parade along Graves, Day and Taylor Streets before ending at Victoria Square on Monday, December 18. “They’ll start wending their way through at 6.15pm with carols set to start at 6.45pm,” Christmas in Kadina committee chairperson Neil Sawley said. “We’ve had to modify the bed push a little this year due to CBD works, so we are calling it the hospital bed challenge. “It’ll be a more stationary event but still a relaytype challenge with all funds going to support the Wallaroo Hospital.” Local talent will be on stage to lead the carols and Father Christmas will be on hand for photos and so children can pass on their last-minute Christmas wishes. “We’re holding our Christmas lights competition again this year, with the best judged house win-

While there will be traditional carols on the green they’ll be starting when it gets a darker at 7.45pm,” Pastor Darren Braund said. “Pre-show entertainment including local musicians will kick off 5.30pm on the main stage, and of course Father Christmas will be making his entry sometime during the evening.” This year’s community focus aims to involve the whole Yorke Peninsula through the Sizzle for CFS. “We wanted to encourage people
to help raise funds for this worthy group of volunteers by hosting a barbecue,” Darren said. “Each donation is forwarded to the special account set up with the Police Credit Union and passed on to their nominated CFS station. “As well as celebrating and promoting the CFS at Carols by the Sea we hope to be able to present a symbolic big cheque to CFS representatives.” Food and coffee will be available, giving everyone a chance to relax and have some fun while waiting for the main event. At the end of the evening as the last carol is sung, fireworks will light up the night sky.

Carols held in the Square at Ardrossan I T wouldn’t be Christmas without carols, and what better way to hear them and join in than to come along to the 2017 Carols in the Square at Ardrossan, on Sunday, December 17? “The emphasis is again on making this a joyful family occasion with lots of input from the younger generations,” spokesperson Mike Osborne said. “There will be an opportunity to sing along to your favourite carols, interspersed with a wide range of items from our local young people.
“Dean Errington will be emcee, and he’s sure to put a smile on people’s faces, plus there will be some surprises from others too. “Leanne Cane is directing the show, so lots of practise is going on in the next few weeks.” The evening will start at 6pm with as a sausage sizzle, while the concert kicks off at 7.30pm, finishing about 9pm with a candlelit finale. “Whilst there will be a collection taken, there’s a new way in which the
audience can help,” Mr Osborne said. “Bring along socks and jocks for men, and these will be donated to the Hutt Street Men’s Mission in Adelaide. “For your own comfort best bring a chair and a blanket, but if the weather is inclement the hall is booked. “The event is organised by members of our four local church denominations and generously supported by the Ardrossan Progress Association, and we look forward to seeing you there.”

Festive tidings at Moonta

RGANISERS of this year’s Christmas in Moonta are hoping for another well-supported community event. The annual street parade will begin from the community activity centre on Military Road at 5.30pm, on Sunday, December 17. “They’ll make their way down to Queen’s Square, where children’s entertainment will begin at 6.30pm and carols at 7.30pm,” Moonta and District Progress Association
chairperson Peter Murray said. “The Christmas markets, which were really well attended last year, will be held in the square from 3pm until 7pm. “We’re expecting good numbers again with a large variety of stalls.” Community groups are busy getting their floats ready as members of the men’s shed are working on refurbishing some of the existing displays. Father Christmas will, of course, be in attendance for
the parade. “Santa’s Cave, complete with backdrops from John Martin’s, will open from 10am to noon from Monday, December 18 until Saturday, December 23,” Mr Murray said. “The community participation in the pageant and in the streets is what makes Christmas at Moonta special. “There’s always kids on the side of the street, drawing away with chalk, it’s got a wonderful feeling.”

Curry lighting up again

URRAMULKA has built a reputation for having Yorke Peninsula’s premier town-wide Christmas light display. Curramulka will again light up this year as displays are switched on during the annual light up night on Saturday, December 6. Festivities start with the street parade at 6.30pm. All welcome to participate. “Wear your best Christmas costume, bling up your bike or scooter, or make a creative Christmas float,” organiser Sarah Harris said. “Last year we had Nipper and Nimble the rocking horses on trailers with Christmas fairies riding them. “Assemble opposite the pub at 6.15pm to join in or, for your viewing pleasure, stake a place along the main street as the parade makes its way to the oval.”
Many favourite attractions will be back, with some exciting additions planned. “This year we’ll have a miniature steam train which will provide free rides for the children,” Sarah said. “We have a lot more market stalls this year which is the perfect opportunity to buy some Christmas presents. “There will be baked goods, homemade cards and crafts, candles, jewellery and lollies.” The bubble tent, a hit with the little ones last year, will be back. “The giant inflatable slide is a definite (unless it is too windy); one flat fee lets you ride all night,” Sarah said. The popular Curry Cave is having a revamp — $4 will get you into the cave, an instant polaroid photo with Father Christmas and a lolly bag. Children will also keep
busy in the colouring in and craft tent. There will be fairy floss, glow products, face painting, canteen and bar facilities and a yiros stand. Music will be provided by the YP Schools Concert Band and SYP Junior Concert Band, followed by local Curramulka musicians. The town light display will commence from 8.45pm; these lights can be viewed until the New Year. The event is a fundraiser for Curramulka Community Club, with different sporting clubs running stalls and all money going back into the community. Minlaton’s merry Christmas celebration

INLATON will again celebrate Christmas with carols, a parade and a visit from Father Christmas. Organiser Janet King said it’s a fun family night with something for everyone. The main street will be closed off just after 5pm on Friday, December 22. “The kids get to do the Red Devil Runaway which starts at 5.30pm,” she said. “We have 10 businesses on
board which the kids can collect freebies from. We had quite a lot of kids even from other towns do that last year.” Carol singing will commence in front of the Uniting Church at 6pm. Minlaton Progress will have attendees well fed with its gourmet barbecue at the rest centre from 6.30pm. The Minlaton Business Group raffle will be drawn at 7pm, followed by children’s parade judging behind
the catholic church at 7.10pm. The street parade will be at 7.30pm. “We have four more floats on board for the night,” Janet said. Kids can visit Father Christmas in the median strip at 7.45pm. “The Combined Churches of Christ program will start at 8pm and they will be performing Christmas carols,” Janet said. “Come and join in with the Christmas carols!”

ORT Clinton is ready for its annual Christmas concert, to be held at the Port Clinton Community Hall on Sunday, December 3. The evening starts with a twilight barbecue at 6pm, followed by the concert with comedic, poetic and musical entertainment provided by local and visiting artists. Port Clinton Progress Association is hoping for another good turnout this year. “Last year’s Christmas concert had local guest artists prepared to entertain us,” progress member Pam Headon said. “Margaret Halford sympathised with a distraught Doris Tapscott, while Roz Brown entertained us with an Elvis song, using different words to Are You Lonesome Tonight. “Helen Croser recited some poetry while her husband David played his guitar and sang; a sister and brother from out of town, Leah and Nathan Rowe played the saxophone and trombone for us as well.” Guests will be able to join in the music too, with carols sung at 7pm before a visit from Santa
for the children at 7.30pm. “Although we may not have as many entertainers, the Port Clinton Progress Association is hoping we have a good turn up for the twilight barbecue, with the entertainment and carol singing following,” Pam said. Attendees can pay $5 for food and a show, or just $2 for the carols and concert, with all proceeds going to support the Port Clinton CFS. Port Clinton may be a small town, but its Christmas cheer is large, with many residents putting the town on the map with their large displays of Christmas lights. “A lot of locals love putting up Christmas lights,” Pam said. “Pam Wolfenden has changed location — but not spirit — she has put hers up including her reindeer out the front and now the neighbours have started too. “We’ve had another great display on Yarraroo Drive and also a few around the corner at Kulpara Street as well.” To take a look at Christmas lights, or just for a pleasant night of entertainment for a good cause, head to Port Clinton this Sunday.
Port Broughton celebrates Christmas

ORT Broughton will come alive during the festive season. The Port Broughton Progress Association will have something for everyone starting with a community Christmas carol service in the town hall from 7pm to 8.15pm on Sunday,
December 3. The Port Broughton Area School choir, Music Variety Club and Combined Churches Choir will be onboard to entertain the crowd. There will also be a special children’s story presented by school leader Steve Stokes. The fun will continue with
a Christmas tree display in the town hall open from 10am4pm Friday, December 8; 2pm-9pm Saturday, December 9; and 10am-2pm Sunday, December 10. The main event, the Port Broughton Christmas Street Party is from 4pm to 9pm on Saturday, December 9.
There will be a jumping castle, kids’ rides, music by the Kadina Wallaroo Moonta Band and Makin’ Tracks, and various stalls. The annual Christmas pageant starts at 6pm followed by the opening of Santa’s Cave at 7pm and an open-air movie at 8.30pm.

Maitland’s Santa Trail is a great activity for locals and visitors with maps available from the Maitland Information Centre for $2. “It’s a great way to fill in some time in the school holidays,” Maitland Information Centre’s Kelly Dyett said. be held at Central Yorke Football Clubrooms with food, bar facilities and a visit from Santa at 7pm on Friday, December 22. “The Apex Christmas party is great for all ages, and lots of fun for the kids,” Kelly said. “There will be face painting, two jumping castles, Mr Whippy ice cream van, putt putt golf and water balloon fights.” For those after some carolling, the town carols will be held at Central Yorke School with a barbecue dinner kicking off proceedings before singing starts at 7pm on Tuesday, December 19.

AROOKA’S Christmas Eve pageant just keeps getting bigger and better, even after 53 years. It is the town’s night to shine as the main street comes alive with family groups, neighbours and visitors lining the pageant route waiting to see what’s in the convoy. “It’s a great family night and a chance for the community as a whole to spend some time together to celebrating the festive season,” a spokesperson said. “The town’s rotunda and lawn area becomes the focal point after the parade has worked its way around town.” Pageant entrants are asked to meet at the Warooka Bowling Club at 7pm, with the pageant leaving the oval’s gates at 7.30pm.

ORKETOWN’S main street precinct will become a child-friendly zone for the annual Christmas Goodie Trail on Saturday, December 16. More than 100 children collected goodie bags before hitting the streets as part of the Yorketown Progress Association event last year. “Once again volunteers will be stationed in the Courthouse gardens handing out the goodie bags, with treats available from about a dozen stops along the main street,” progress president Jenny Voigt said. Santa will also be in residence as part of the trail, providing an all-important stop for children who want to give him any lastminute wishes or delivery instructions! “We are also hoping to organise someone to do face painting, and of course we’ll make sure no one goes hungry with our cooks firing up the barbecue for a sausage sizzle plus bacon and egg sandwiches throughout the morning,” Jenny said. The Goodie Trail will start at 9am and finish at noon.

overseas countries, to be packed and sent,” Cheryl said. “Offering from the night will be donated to the organisation to help cover the costs of the distribution of the shoeboxes.” A light supper will be available after the final carol thanks to the generosity of the Lutheran and Uniting Church guilds. The committee asks intending patrons to bring their family and friends, and their voices for what promises to be a wonderful introduction to the Christmas season.
