FRI 17 FEB – SAT 3 MAR Anne Frank's world famous diary charts two years of her life from 1942 to 1944. This extraordinary personal account of hope, courage and survival has united and touched people world wide.
Whilst hidden from the German Nazis, with her Jewish family, in a secret annex in Amsterdam, Anne documented her hopes, frustrations and day to day experiences in confinement. Anne’s wry observations of herself and her companions have been dramatised in this stunning play, evoking all the original sentiments of a young girl’s dramatic and heartbreaking diary, written in the most hostile of environments. From the same partnership that produced last spring’s sell out production of To Kill a Mockingbird comes another classic text. THE DEBT COLLECTORS TUE 13 – SAT 17 SEP Written & directed by John Godber A new comedy from one of the nation’s favourite playwrights, author of international hits Bouncers, Up Up’ N’ Under and Teechers.
your case! Demanding money has never been as funny; they may be in the wrong job, but they are the best in the business.
The Debt Collectors mixes money and love with the love of money, as two out of work actors fall into the world of debt recovery. It’s a role they despise but a job they were made for, and they are desperate for cash. But all is not what it seems in this hilarious comedy of unpaid bills, offers of sex and boozy bailiffs! WE ARE THREE SISTERS A new play by Blake Morrison
TUE 22 – SAT 26 NOV
Against the backdrop of a dark, remote northern town, three remarkable young women live their lives brightly. Haworth1840s; in a gloomy parsonage where there are neither curtains nor comforts, Charlotte, Anne and Emily Brontë light up their world with outspoken wit, aspirations, dreams and ideas. And throughout their confined lives intensely lived…. they write.

With exquisitely drawn characterisations, a nod to Chekhov and a touch of poetic licence, We Are Three Sisters is a pearl of a play which evokes with piercing clarity the life and distinct personalities of these three spirited individuals.
Anyone who has read a Brontë novel cannot fail to be stirred by their overwhelming humanity, charged emotion and brooding, prescient unease with the status quo.

Mind the Gap is an awardwinning theatre company that works with learning disabled and non-disabled actors as equals.
The two actors conjure storms and apparitions, lay bare treasons and counterplot, and finally transport you to a brave new world of love and reconciliation. Adapted and directed by Geoff Bullen, with a specially commissioned score by the internationally renowned composer Tot Taylor including contributions from Stacey Kent, Alan Barnes, and Simon Warner.
This Pulitzer prize-winning play is a powerful drama, set in a Catholic school. It tells the story of Sister Aloysius who takes matters into her own hands when she suspects a charismatic priest of sexually abusing a student. Faced with the prospect of charging the priest with unproven allegations which could destroy his career as well as her own, Sister Aloysius tries to enlist help from the boy's mother and from an idealistic young nun who finds her faith severely challenged. ’A gripping mystery...‘ Time Out Directed by Gareth Jenkins

Written by Jim Cartwright
by Alan Ayckbourn
In Jim Cartwright’s extraordinary play about sleep, insomnia and growing old, eight elderly characters relive their lives and evoke their dreams. Old Bomb, the theatre company behind recent productions of Pinteresque, Cigarettes and Chocolate and Waiting for Godot, bring you another intimate and atmospheric show, complete with specially composed music and a very large mattress.
Life in your teens, as Tammy discovers, can be unfair and even cruel. School is a disaster and at home she can do nothing right. Then something really terrible happens. When she gets the chance to undo the tragedy, she grabs the opportunity. But is it possible to change the world around you without changing yourself?
Bring your pyjamas, join in the fun and get ready for bed!
This serious comedy is a rare chance to see one of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays for young people and families. The issues it explores, its sense of fun and its gripping plot will appeal to people of all ages.
‘The sheer exuberance and beauty of the writing and the piece’s urgent theatricality are difficult to describe… Cartwright (Two, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice) is a true original.’ City Limits.

2- 27 AUG 2012 York Museum Gardens The medieval cycle of YORK MYSTERY PLAYS has been performed by the people of York across the centuries and is a world-famous part of the city’s cultural heritage. From Creation to the Last Judgement, these plays form one of the greatest stories ever told. In summer 2012, the story of God, of man and woman and of the cosmic struggle between good and evil will be presented on an epic scale against the magnificent backdrop of St Mary's Abbey.
For the first time since 1988 in a production of this size, the Plays will return to York Museum Gardens, where a 1400 coveredseat theatre will be constructed within the ancient walls of the Abbey. Taking place in the same year that London hosts the Olympic Games, this international event will also be a major part of York’s 800th anniversary celebrations of the granting of its Civic Charter. An exciting festival atmosphere will be created both in the Gardens and throughout the city, with entertaining fringe events and a celebration of the best of Yorkshire food and drink.
Presented by York Theatre Royal, Riding Lights Theatre Company and York Museums Trust and supported by City of York Council, this bold, accessible adaptation of the Plays is by York writer Mike Kenny, who also adapted E. Nesbitt’s The Railway Children for the Olivier award-winning production by York Theatre Royal and the National Railway Museum. Over 1,000 people from the local community will join with a team of professional artists and technicians to create this spectacular production. For more information visit www.yorkmysteryplays2012.com
