THE REMAINS OF THE DAY Based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro Adapted by Barney Norris

1930s England. Darlington Hall runs like clockwork under one of the last truly great butlers. Reserved and dutiful like his father before him, and with the funny and forthright housekeeper Kenton by his side, Stevens faithfully serves his employer. Twenty years later, Stevens travels to find an old friend, remembering choices made and not made, journeying to one last chance at happiness. 2017 Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel, which became a beloved Merchant Ivory film, and now transformed into an exquisite stage play by one of Britain’s most exciting writers, Barney Norris, is a story for anyone who has ever been afraid to follow their heart. HEART OF DARKNESS

AGE

14+ GUIDE

Adapted and directed by Andrew Quick and Pete Brooks

The hilarious and touching new comedy about gender, sexuality and being a long way from home.

Digital theatre makers imitating the dog turn their attention to Joseph Conrad’s extraordinarily influential novel, Heart of Darkness. The story of brutal greed and the dark heart which beats within us all is retold in a long-forsaken Europe, in a world which echoes Apocalypse Now.

It’s New Year in Rotterdam, and Alice has finally plucked up the courage to email her parents and tell them she’s gay. But before she can hit send, her girlfriend Fiona reveals that he has always identified as a man and now wants to start living as one named Adrian.

This bold re-telling is a visually rich, multi-layered work which fuses live performance with cinema, soundscape and graphic novel.

Produced by Dermot McLaughlin Productions in association with The Mercury Theatre Colchester, Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and Exeter Northcott Theatre

MAIN HOUSE | 21 MAY - 01 JUN

Starring Janet Dibley and Maggie McCarthy “I don’t save or shield them. It’s as bad as I feared – they’re lost.” 1840. A young governess agrees to look after two orphaned children in Bly, a seemingly idyllic country house. But shortly after her arrival, she realises that they are not alone. There are others – the ghosts of Bly’s troubled past. The Governess will risk everything to keep the children safe, even if it means giving herself up to The Others. Years later, confronted by the past she is compelled to account for what actually happened to her and the innocents under her protection. This new adaptation of Henry James’ iconic tale, which was the original inspiration for Susan Hill’s The Woman in Black, is a masterclass in stage-craft, with captivating performances, deliciously atmospheric set and lighting design and an evocative soundtrack, starring Janet Dibley (Doctors, EastEnders, The Two of Us) and Maggie McCarthy (Dancing on the Edge, Call the Midwife). Wildcard Theatre’s multi award-winning gig theatre show combines spoken word and original music, performed by six multiinstrumentalists, ranging from ‘blasts of sound to lyrical sweetness’ (***** The Scotsman). We follow Jessie through gigs, parties, city streets and warehouses, journeying from Leeds to London, on a quest to find her mother.

This Tony Award-winning show, presented by York Light Operatic Company is the perfect introduction to the master of musical theatre Sondheim. Featuring songs from Company, Follies and West Side Story, this is music that captures the emotions and will have you laugh, cry and fall in love. 29
