A musical fable of Broadway Based on the story and characters of Damon Runyon Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser Book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows Directed by Martyn Knight

Guys and Dolls is an oddball musical romantic comedy involving the unlikeliest of Manhattan pairings: a high-rolling gambler and a puritanical missionary, a showgirl dreaming of the straight-and-narrow and a crap game manager who is anything but. The story takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City, through a wonderful score by Frank Loesser, but eventually everyone ends up right where they belong. Songs include the iconic: A Bushel and a Peck; Guys and Dolls; Take Back Your Mink; Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat; Marry the Man Today; and of course, Luck Be a Lady. SOLDIER ON By Jonathan Lewis

What happens when a company of ex-soldiers becomes a company of actors? A theatrical band of brothers. Although it’s not a cure all, the bonding, the humour, the theatre of war helps to put them back together again - as a company of veterans and actors rehearse a play about a company of veterans and actors. Although worlds apart they begin to realise there are more similarities between military life and the theatre than they bargained for, building a powerful new world of their own. This is a heart warming story about surviving the forces and PTSD, and what happens when you leave the military ‘family’. 20

‘Mansfield delivers the famous songs superbly’ The Guardian

In a Manhattan hotel room in New York, Edith Piaf rehearses for her last US concert. Eight years earlier in the same hotel she had telephoned her lover, boxer Marcel Cerdan, begging him to overcome his fear of flying and leave France to be with her. Hours later she heard the terrible news that his plane had crashed. Marcel was dead. Past, present and future merge in this thrilling performance by Olivier Award-nominated actress Elizabeth Mansfield. An extraordinary musical homage to Piaf, Hymn to Love explores love, loss and longing with 13 of Piaf’s songs, each given fresh meaning in vibrant new translations. WOKE

‘I am that mixed raced kid, like 50/50, on the fence, lukewarm, in-between maybe. Trust me, around here I’m about as black as it goes…’

The twin juggernauts of hip-hop and feminism are on a collision course. And Testament reckons he’s the guy to sort it out.

A partly autobiographical dark comedy about finding your voice. Written and performed by Alfred Fagon Award shortlisted writer Natasha Marshall.

A rapper and World Record Holding Beatboxer, he thinks he’s a right-on kind of guy. Then his daughter is born and suddenly he’s not so sure.

26

What will he discover as he starts to unpick his own prejudices? With a dose of wit, a knack for self-deprecation and a truck-load of honesty, Testament is ready to find out.

York Theatre Royal and Mercury Theatre present the world première of

How much is that A* worth? How far would you go to get your child that coveted A*? What happens to a family when privilege is abused and trust vanishes... when cheating becomes a code to live by and deception a justified means to an end? They have it all – the perfect family life the perfect future. Or so it seems. High achieving, successful, loving parents, they only want the very best for their son. That’s what everyone wants after all... but who’s it really for? When desire allows you to lose sight of what is morally right, when manipulation takes over, the consequences can be devastating. What is the true price of success? A contempoary story of a family torn apart by a hunger for success and fear of failure.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR BORDER CROSSING Written and performed by Daniel Bye

A twelve-year-old girl sneaks across the border into her own country. Her parents watch her on a computer screen. The works of a half-forgotten performance artist seem to hold the key to bringing down a brutal system operating on our behalf and under our noses. Do you join in? Or do you look the other way?

Monogamy means sharing your life with one person, but what if you shared your kitchen with 5.6 million? Caroline Mortimer, the nation’s favourite TV cook, has it all - a sparkling career, a big house in Highgate, a (golf) loving husband, smart kids and the best kitchen money can buy.

Instructions for Border Crossing is the exposed gearbox of a political thriller. Blending Daniel’s trademark storytelling with a series of live interventions from the audience, the show itself is as unstable as the world it describes.

But beneath the immaculate furnishings, studio lighting and away from the glare of the everpresent cameras - Caroline must face the looming collision of living a private life in the public eye.

PUCCINI: IL TABARRO & GIANNI SCHICCHI

Directed by James Conway (Il tabarro), Liam Steel (Gianni Schicchi) Conducted by Michael Rosewell

Puccini’s one-act operas Il tabarro and Gianni Schicchi could hardly be more different: one is a moody romance ending in a grotesque murder on a barge in Paris, and the other is a sparkling comedy about a family inheritance in Florence. First performed in 2011 to great critical acclaim, this double bill shows Puccini at his finest as a master of theatre that speaks to the heart. Sung in Italian with English surtitles.
