ZERO
There’s a light ground mist across the countryside. Two men in black suits are paying their last respects...
FRI 10 – SAT 11 OCT Written by Chris O’Connell Directed by Matt Aston Chaotic, fast, and furious, Zero is the new play from multi award-winning Theatre Absolute. Written by Chris O’Connell, the play is an explosive and anarchic stare at the ethics of torture, and the curse of censorship. Twenty years from now, in the face of a feast of unabated nihilism, hundreds of camps have been built to torture and gain information at any cost, from those who aim to blow apart the rich pickings of a world that is wealthy beyond its dreams. Alex, a translator at Camp Zero, seeks to tell the world of the brutal regime within the camps, and finds his life is suddenly on the line. Survival is paramount, death may be inevitable, but the truth has to be told. “This is theatre at its best. THE YEOMEN OF THE GUARD
WELCOME TO RAMALLAH
TUE 21 – SAT 25 OCT By Gilbert and Sullivan Directed by Pauline Chadwick Musical Director Alasdair Jamieson "The screw may twist and the rack may turn, And men may bleed and men may burn." The Yeomen of the Guard received its first performance in 1888 and was referred to, in later years, by both Gilbert and Sullivan as being their best work. Encouraged to write "more serious" opera by music critics, fashionable friends and even Queen Victoria, not only Sullivan was keen to embrace a slightly different style. Gilbert too was eager to move away from his usual realm of "topsyturvy" and write something that relied on genuine human interest.
Set in the fearsome Tower of London in Tudor England, The Yeomen of the Guard tells the stories of brave Colonel Fairfax, unjustly imprisoned and sentenced to death in the Tower, and two strolling players, Jack Point and Elsie Maynard, whose paths become inextricably intertwined with his.

Royal’s Dick Turpin the Panto. For 21 years one man has been heralded as the greatest villain in all of pantoland, that is until notorious highwayman Dick Turpin rides into York, and robs him of his title! Join Dame Betty Turpin, her nephew Dick, and his horse Black Mess in what promises to be the most hilarious historically incorrect pantomime you’re ever likely to see. Traditional, home-grown family pantomime doesn’t get any better than this – all the gags, slapstick and buckets of water you might dare to expect, with plenty of wonderful surprises. You’d better hoof it down to the Box Office now to make sure you don’t miss out on the adventure. For performance times and ticket prices please see diary on page 35
