YOUTH THEATRE
York Theatre Royal Youth Theatre comprises of 370 young people who take part in weekly sessions within 14 youth theatre groups, two taster groups (where young people from our waiting list have a term’s participation in youth theatre sessions) and one outreach group, Access All Areas (referral only). We produce at least 14 youth theatre productions each year, at the theatre and various site specific locations. In 2015–16 our 16+ groups are producing two short films that will be screened in the new theatre foyer and our 11–14s are taking a production and supporting workshop out on tour to local primary schools. TakeOver is a festival run entirely by a dedicated team of young people aged 12 to 26, who work together on programming, producing and managing a festival from scratch. Storytelling activity 2016: Rites of Passage THURSDAY 7 – FRIDAY 8 APRIL Spend two days with storyteller Cath Heinemeyer working and playing with myths of coming-ofage from different cultures – from the New Zealand Maori tradition to the Welsh Mabinogion. We will plunder them for ideas and inspiration! The group will develop a performance for the festival and symposium of youth storytelling, ‘Storyknowing’, on Fri 22 April (69pm), organised with York St John University. Mud Pie Arts are bringing their play sessions back to YTR. The café will be open to make the activity even sweeter with sticky treats and great coffee. So if you have a preschooler, come and join in the fun. Each week we explore a wonderful picture book through craft and multi-sensory play. We make, stick, sprinkle, dress up, hide, seek, dance, sing, invent and pretend! At the end of the session the book is revealed and shared. Membership costs £48 per year. You can pay in one go or in £4 instalments per month. As a member we’ll also give you the option of making a £2 per month donation to the theatre which we can then Gift Aid.
1744 Club
By joining our 1744 Club you’ll enable York Theatre Royal to continue the great work we do on and off our stages. From £20 per month, your donation could provide Youth Theatre membership to a disadvantaged child, offer an up-and-coming director a placement on one of our productions, or fund a script development workshop for a new play.
