This is the story of a group of youth in Taiwan who wanted to make Taiwan a better place. What started as a crazy idea, became a dream come true 3 years later in August 2014 as we reached our goal through our unwavering passion and beliefs. We strongly believe that what we created has left a strong impression on the delegates, as the congress itself united under all the power and essence of Taiwan which hatched its fascinating cultural theme. Nonetheless, it has shown our foreign friends the Taiwanese spirit, which is the daringness to take up challenges and to never give up. These are the pieces that made AIESEC International Congress 2014 happen, which we truly believe has given lifelong memories to the delegates. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to every individual that helped to make this congress happen. Thanks to the Taiwan goverment's support throughout the process of bidding and execution of the congress. Thanks to all of the congress partners who had contributed financially. Thanks to all the members and alumni of AIESEC in Taiwan for giving their full support constantly throughout the congress. By making the AIESEC international Congress 2014 happen, we have proven that Taiwan is an island that dares to take challenges, vows never to give up, and unites as one.

Sincerely Yours, Congress Committee of AIESEC International Congress 2014

AIESEC AIESEC On behalf of the Board of Directors of AIESEC in Taiwan, I would like to congratulate the Congress Committee for achieving the impossible and achieving our goal of making this International Congress a most memorable event. I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all of the public and private sponsors, the many Taiwanese companies and AIESEC International for your generous support and assistance to the International Congress Congress Committee, and most importantly I want to thank all the delegates that have traveled different distances to attend this 2014 AIESEC International Congress in Taiwan. Fifty years ago, Dr. Wu established AIESEC in Taiwan. Thirty-two years ago, I attended International Congress in Coventry, United Kingdom with my classmate Cindy Yen, and that was a life changing experience for both of us. Since then, AIESEC has flourished and remains to be a strong organization in many campuses in Taiwan. As we celebrate AIESEC in Taiwan’s 50th anniversary, we are very happy to have all of you join us here to spread the AIESEC spirit. And the AIESEC spirit will always be with us, even now in my work when I go around the world representing TAIPEI 101, the world’s tallest green building. One and a half years ago, it was confirmed that the 2014 International Congress will be held in Taiwan. All AIESEC members and alumni were mobilized to raise funds and prepare for the biggest AIESEC event ever held here. Van Tsai and his team worked day and night hoping to create the best International Congress for all of the delegates. We hope you have enjoyed the meetings, the venue, the friendship, and above all, we hope you have enjoyed Taiwan’s beauty and Taiwan people’s hospitality. Taiwan is a small island with big dreams. We dream to be the world’s Silicon Island, we dream to be Asia’s Creativity Center, and we dream to be Friends with the whole world. Having this International Congress in Taiwan is kind of a dream come true. Maybe this is your first contact with Taiwan, but we hope the experience has made it the beginning of a life time friendship. I wish to see you again in Taiwan or somewhere in another great AIESEC event. Congratulations again for the success International Congress, the best birthday gift to AIESEC in Taiwan.

Taiwan It is a great honor that AIESEC in Taiwan is hosting this year's International Congress. This year is also the 50th anniversary of the formation of AIESEC in Taiwan. So we invite delegates from around the world to share our celebration of this milestone. In 1962, Mr. Bernd M. Thomas of Germany introduced Taiwan to AIESEC for the first time. Then in 1963 a Japanese student, Mr. Wakiya Toshio, helped Taiwan commence AIESEC activities here while working as a trainee at Taiwan Cement Corp. At that time I was a graduate student at National Taiwan University and was responsible for preparing AIESEC's formal establishment. In March 1965 I represented AIESEC in Taiwan at the International Congress in Helsinki, Finland. We applied for membership there and the proposal was passed. In the last 50 years, thanks to the hard work of our fellow AIESEC members, the number of participating students and schools has increased constantly. Today there are 16 local committees under AIESEC in Taiwan and more than 1,000 exchange students a year. AIESEC became Taiwan's largest, most vibrant autonomous student organization. To have served as its founder fills me with honor and pride. Since the formation of AIESEC in Taiwan, many outstanding young leaders have been cultivated. They have not only been active in business in Taiwan, but have also made a strong impression overseas. In preparing this year's AIESEC International Congress, AIESEC in Taiwan has not only received the support of government, but also the enthusiastic sponsorship of the corporate world. I would like to take this opportunity to especially thank Taiwan's government, university and business community for their support and assistance. Finally, I want to congraduate success of the 2014 AIESEC International Congress and wish that AIESEC in Taiwan will continue to evolve in the future.

In 2011, AIESEC in Taiwan started a crazy idea, to bid for the biggest annual event in AIESEC--International Congress, in order to let Taiwan be seen by the world, to connect Taiwan to the world, and most importantly, to show that the youth can make Taiwan a better place. The process was not smooth though. We spent 2 years to win the hosting right. We climbed back from a less than 20% support of the member committees to the final decision of over two-thirds. Through the entire process full of difficulties and grievances, we proved to the network the Taiwanese spirit of never giving up and persisting to the end. However, more challenges came right after winning the hosting right. We not only had to ensure that the congress will take place, but that it will be a successful one under limited time and resources. We faced a lot of difficulties and obstacles. For example: to search for a venue that can accommodate 1000 people for over 10 days during the peak season of summer, to form a congree committee team that consists of 80 people from different universities across Taiwan, to raise sponsorships upwards of 20 million NTD in a single year. At the start, many of these challenges we envisioned were insurmountable. Nevertheless, during and at the end of the congress, we saw and heard many of the delegates showing their most sincere appreciation to the congress committee team for the things we had done for them and for the congress. They thanked us for working this hard to let Taiwan, this worthy-to-be-seen island, be seen by the world. Rural area elementary school students appreciated us for creating the event and opportunity for them to touch the world for the very first time. Taiwanese youth showed their gratitude to us for bringing the world to Taiwan to provide to them an international environment right at home. When this all came true, we realized that we pulled off a significant event for taiwan, and that all the challenges and tough moments during the preparation were all worth it in the end. I need to sincerely thank all of the people who contributed to the success of this congress. Hosting AIESEC International Congress 2014 in Taiwan brough the biggest challenges and potential risks to AIESEC in Taiwan. But it also brought hope, confidence, and lots of miracles throughout the year. Thanks go out to Taiwan's government for supporting us through the process of bidding and execution of the congress. Thanks to all of the congress partners who had contributed financially. Thanks to all the members and alumni of AIESEC in Taiwan for giving their full support constantly throughout the congress. Thanks to Taiwan for being an island that cultivated a unique culture and society so that we could proudly present this place named Taiwan and the local Taiwanese people during the ten days of congress. 3

AIESEC International Congress (IC) is the biggest international conference in AIESEC that leads youth leaders from around the world to participate in one a year. Every entity representative here not only has clear purposes and dreams of their own, but more importantly have the shared value to equip the global youth with entrepreneurial leadership and competitiveness to make a better world by the actions we conduct in AIESEC. In this gigantic and diverse global network, I was curious about how the people from other countries think about Taiwan. "Taiwanese are modest but with great passion. Furthermore, I think you guys are so diligent and manage details finely to make things perfect." Shared by one of the entity representatives. "Do you think Taiwan's youth are competitive enough internationally in the future?" I asked. "For sure, based on my observation in this congress, you guys really impressed me a lot. I believe that this generation of Taiwanese youth can definitely be a very competitive group if only their English ability can be a bit more refined." They again replied. The 2014 International Congress of AIESEC was comprised of over 700 delegates from more than 124 countries and territories. We made every youth leader from around the world fall in love with Taiwan, and impressed them with the genuinity of the Taiwanese people. This proved that there is infinite posibbility for the youth in this generation to create a better future. With the 50th anniversary this year, we gathered the support from all the members (whose average age is less than 22 years old), alumni, partners, and oranizers, to make this seemingly impossible congress happen. We have successfully brought Taiwan to the world through the AIESEC International Congress 2014.

AIESEC Youth Leadership, Spark the world

10

AIESEC cultivates youth leadership through its global network, to achieve the organization's vision of "Peace and Fulfillment of Humankind's Potential." Therefore, the 2014 congress slogan was "Youth Leadership, Spark the World!" We hope that we can create awareness for youth leadership cultivation during the 10-day congress and its series of events while simulatenously cultivating more youth to demonstrate leadership. Youth leadership currently entails a lot of issues. The three sub-themes of the 2014 AIESEC International Congress that were focused on were: "self-fulfillment", "innovation and integration" and "social responsibility," These three sub-themes were present around the International Congress and its series of events with the goal for participants to reach the congress objectives.

Beautiful country with very nice sceneries. It allowed me to start cherishing the nature more and to see the beauty in it! People: Sincere, hardworking, striving to be better, very very helpful and patient. Hotel food wasn’t great... But I love night marketd and street food! The traditional dinner and gala dinner had too much delicious food. I had to be cautious of not eating too much on each dish because I caught myself getting full halways before all the dishes were served. Delicious food makes me happy, but what I was most impressed with about Taiwan was the People. Before I joined AIESEC, whenever I travelled to Taiwan it was the attractions, food, and shopping that I liked. But after joining AIESEC, I got to know more about the Taiwanese people and I fell in love with this island because of the people. the people are so sincere with their feelings and emotions. The Taiwanese always touched my heart. I can feel that AIESEC in Taiwan united under 1 purpose and that was to bring Taiwan to the world and the world to Taiwan. Each and every Taiwanese AIESEC member that I met is so passionate about this purpose and it shows in their actions and words. I am so happy to see that AIESEC in Taiwan can influence more and more youth to united under this purpose to make Taiwan better. I also witnessed this through the volunteers that were engaged. I also think that because of this same purpose, the Alumnus in Taiwan were so willing to contribute to developing the younger generations! It is something that I envy a lot. Taiwan taught me to be emotional. And that means a great deal for someone coming from a country that is a lot less emotional. 9

When I first heard "Taiwan will touch your heart" I didn't believe that could be possible...after 9 days have elapses and 5 more to go on this amazing island, I can say that it has TOTALLY touched my heart and will continue to do so. There are some opportunities in life that you can snatch it up or let it pass, and I am so happy that I took the opportunity to become one of the 700 delegates that can feel how amazing the human race is. Every member of AIESEC International, Congress Committee, and volunteers make me feel special at every single minute, like I was the most important person in that room. For me, International Congress in Taiwan was one of the BEST experiences of my life. It really challenged me, made me laugh, cry, feel ,connect, dream, fall in love, discover, and much much more. But most importantly, it made me feel alive with the hope that I can change the world. I can only say, GRACIAS, THANK YOU, XIÉXIE

Nan Nuttida Tangsophonphong 22 years old from Thailand

My first internation with Taiwan was in Kaohsiung. I was really impressed with the scenary of the city, especially the lotus pond and all the temples around the area. The stone pillar sculpture and decoration in the architect was so neat and it showed me how much effort and passion the Taiwanese craftsmen put into their work. The people in taiwan are extremely friendly. even through I had a language barrier, they still try to sort things out by using gestures or ask others who can speak English to talk to me instead of simply walking away. Moreover, I had the chance to visit the Taiwanese night market which is incredibly exotic! I loved the rice hot dog, papaya milk, Xiao Long Bao, stinky tofu, pork blood, among many other things. I feel in love with Taiwanese food and will go back to Taiwan again for sure, but next time with better Mandarin! The thing that I will never ever forget about Taiwan is the spirit of the youth in this country. I saw how much effort and passion they devoted to show the best of their country. They were amazing hosts by welcoming the guests from every corner of the world to their homeland. They actually "touched my heart" and created one of the most significant memories and moments in my during during my stay in Taiwan. 10

We gather business leaders in Taiwan to witness the official commencement of our series events. We shared our motivation and story of bidding the congress. By the support of the media, we were able to share the excitement of hosting all these events to every Taiwanese.

19

Nowadays, the rapidly changing environment has created the interlocking yet competitive development trend in all parts of the world. With such trend, Taiwan has established a strong foundation and hardware development of its communities in different parts of the world with its entrepreneurial and dynamic spirit. However, as the heart of Asia Pacific region, Taiwan is facing challenges and standing in front of the opportunity to integrate with the fast developing world. Key objectives of Global Youth Leadership Summit: - to nurture youth global awareness, to promote youth action and to develop the bilateral learning between youth and the world - to connect Taiwan and integrate with the world to showcase the unleashed potentials in both software and hardware industries With above objectives, we hope that this very first time AIESEC International Congress being held in Taiwan, series of intellectual conversations, idea exchanging spaces will be carry out among the young leaders from different countries and territories. This Summit will be the international platform which young leaders can exchange their unique experience, can co-create the ideal future and to be the role model that brings motivation to move Taiwan forward. We hope to see changes in the society after the Summit, as to show to Taiwan and the world that youth who take up challenges and responsibilities are trying to make the world a better place.

20

Global Youth Leadership Summit is one of the public events that will happen before the AIESEC International Congress. It would be one of the largest international for youth event in Taiwan in recent. The summit does not only includes the 7th AIESEC in Taiwan Youth Impact Forum, and also will provide the chance to exchange ideas with young leaders from different background. The Summit spirit "For Youth, By Youth," hoping that shared leadership experience could bring positive impact and progressing energy to the Taiwan society.

Review of the event A. Representative of Volunteer : Josephine Wenn

A.

If you think that volunteers take part in the Global Youth Leadership Summit (GYLS) is only for the certificate or to have something to add on the resume, then you are wrong. During GYLS, I was a part of the tea break team, I helped with delegates during the break time. As a volunteer, I thought that if I do exactly what the others told me to do, then I will have fulfilled my duty. However, I realized that things will not get better unless you do something better than you expecting. By the time I have finished the first day duty, my team and I found out that a number of delegates stopped by our table depending on how much we smile at them! If we smile to every delegate that passed by, most of them will smile back to us and grab a snack from our table. Some delegates even took photos with us at the tea break table. Seeing the smiles on their faces might be the best achievement throughout the session. I think being a volunteer is not about doing things we are good at, it is about doing things with a passion, this is also what we should do in life as well! Volunteered with AIESEC means a lot to me, I have gained a life-time experience through it. Thank you AIESEC!

B.

Sunny You

B. Delegate: Sunny You The gas explosion and flood happened in Kaohsiung has made me reconsidering to participate in the summit. However, after talking to the Organizing Committee President, June, she assured that GYLS team has took all the precarious and safety measurements for the summit, there is nothing to worry about, then I decided to sign up for this unique event. The organizing team has been preparing this event for over a year, everything I see during the summit was outstanding, including the visual design, sound system, etc. One of my favourite speech was delivered by Troy Malone. He highlighted that the organizers have made a huge effort on inviting him from the United States to Taiwan to talk on the stage. By addressing this on the stage was a sign of appreciation to the organizing team. Troy's speech was well-designed as the content was customized according to the diverseness of the audience. That was one of the things I like about his talk. Day 2 and 3 were about breakthroughs of Taiwan youth who had Asian education, it required us to think out of the box. Taiwanese youth found challenging during the discussion part but it was a perfect opportunity for us to realize that what we have been doing wrong. Thank again to the organizing team of AIESEC who wanted to give youth a great learning opportunity.

Speaker: General Manager of Evernote at ASIA PACIFICTroy Malone People here believe they can change the world, and this organization I would like to know more and get involved. For this organization and organization of such activities I am stunning, does not think it is just a general Summit experience, actually I have been involved in countless speeches. But I wouldn't say it's just a Youth Summit, but by a group of young leaders started with ideas. Through JUNE (organizing committee of president of summit) for up to six months of letters inviting, I was impressed by this hardworking and never give up. See organizing committee team to use Evernote as a tool for preparation and was great to see so many young people are willing to give it a chance. 24

AIESEC The Opening Ceremony is the first public event of the International Congress. This is the session which congress delegates will set their expectation towards the next 10 days at the congress. As well through this event, AIESEC members can officially share the event to the public to celebrate the opening of the International Congress. We had performance of Diabolo Dance Theatre as the theme for the event.

AIESEC Taiwan

Alumni

AIESEC The Opening Ceremony has not only invited the Government to give the speech and also International Congress partners to experience the AIESEC culture. Moreover, Congress Committee members can share this significant moments with their family and friends. AIESEC Alumi who have been supporting AIESEC in Taiwan will be there to share the joy as well. Diabolo Dance Theatre divided their performance "Heart of the Ocean" into 3 parts, and perform during the speeches. The last performance "Force Power of Taiwan" represents AIESEC to continue moving on with the values we believe.

Taiwan touch you heart 3D 10 I feel fortunate that I got this chance to join this opening ceremony after recommendation of my friend. I still remember about the video that was showed during opening ceremony. It showcased about beautiful scenery of Taiwan, our delicious food and not forgetting the hospitality that Taiwanese are always proud of it. Eventhough the video is not long, but it touched my heart, becase I then realized that there are many good things that have yet to be discover in Taiwan. Apart from that, I am amazed about the performances from the diablo team that combined gymnastics and 3D images. I didn't know that diablo can be played with so many different ways. This opening ceremony is a great event because of the arrangement of interesting performances and speeches.

, At the beginning, I thought being a volunteer was going to be troublesome because I would need to commute between Taoyuan airport and the congress venue. However, now I feel so blessed and thankful to AIESEC for selecting me as a volunteer. During my work of helping the delegates, I developed friendships with young people from around the world and gained hands-on teamwork skills. When I have finished my volunteer work and gone home, these moments feel like an amazing dream that is kept in my head. I remember when Van, the Congress Committee President gave the speech during the Opening Ceremony, I was really touched by the vision of bringing all these foreigners to Taiwan for this congress. Thank you AIESEC in Taiwan for all the efforts to let more people know about Taiwan and let us, the Taiwanese youth to know more about the world.

Delegates Sharing

AIESEC 30 This is my first time participating in an international event that is fully prepared by students. I got this chance all thanks to one of my family member who is also in the volunteer team. The route that has assigned to me was places at the second floor at the hall for opening ceremony. I think there might have many VIPs being placed at first floor in the hall, hence there are more manpower allocated for first floor. Eventhough second floor route is a bit far and complicated, but we still manage to help delegates and guests to get their seats and wait for the opening ceremony. I am not an AIESECer hence I do not really know the people who went on stage to deliver speeches. But I remember everyone being very passionate, and the great performances left a great impression in my mind. I am grateful that I have this chance to be involved in this event, it is a very successful event and we are able to showcase to foreigners about Taiwan, about Taiwanese that aims to accomplish task perfectly. Through this experience I am able to understand and believe that students are able to achieve big things too!

Generation Y are usually dubbed as lack of global mindset and escaping realities. Here in Global Village, we provide a platform for youths from around the world to not just learn each others culture, but to understand and discuss the social issues existing around the globe due to differences in cultures and norms. It is our duty to learn about the world and do something about it. And we sincerely hope that this change will last through generations.

Delegates Sharing Jocelyn Hsu 20 years old Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages This is my first time to join Global Village activity, where gonna participate people from 124 countries and territories. I am very grateful to all AIESECers to let me join this Global Village. I really expect to interact and communicate with foreigners. Once I steped in venue I could fell how exotic it is. Every country and territory prepares their own sharing and stand very well. They not only prepare foods, but also clothes, typical country items, and so on. The most impressive is Japan. Because I like Japanese culture very much, I cannot wait to see what they have prepared to present their culture. I greet to Japanese with my bad Japanese and English. But They greet me very warmly above my expectations. Their greet really over my original image. I like AIESEC dances and cultural sharing very much. Hence, those are not normal dances, as each AIESEC dance show different culture style from different country. Songs and dance types are very diverse. And sometimes, all people enjoy dancing together. This activity leaves me with the feeling that “Globe is a big family." I loved to participate in this Global Village and I enjoyed all activities. I could also see that AIESEC in Taiwan prepared those activities withh all hheir hearts to let the Globe come and see how beautiful is Taiwan.

Dean Chung 22 years old National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology Thomas Friedman describes his experience in (The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century) and what he said is that no one cannot escape globalization. Globalizations is not only about knowing the economical impact, but also about understading different cultures. This activity is a good chance to touch the world. In this activity, they prepare showcase of their culture, ready to share to everybody happily. I enjoyed peaceful and respectful atmosphere in Global Village.

Madam Chang: ”Global village is definitely a great experience for the kids. This chance enables them to expose towards foreigners by themselves (although there's also help from the translator) , get to taste different food and also get to know the food culture of different countries. The existence of translator is very important for this event because of the language barrier, I felt a bit wasted for not able to bring the kids to experience some other booths when we can't find any volunteers at certain booths.” Madam Lin: “This event is lively. it's all very memoriable experience for our students that can experience cultural differences, get to interact with foreigners and taste different food. When I was leading the students in participating the event, there's also a concert on going. The music is too loud hence able to create the lively atmosphere, but it affected a little on physical conversation with foreigners because we can hardly hear what we speak to each other.” Bo-Wei: “It seems very difficult to learn the languages because every language sound different from one another. The one that I remember the most is French bread, although when first bite it is a bit dry, but the taste is sweet. A delicious food I would say.” Yuan-Kai: “I love korean tattoo sticket the most, it's very beautiful. There's also peanut butter that tasted delicious but I forgot its from which country. And is also precious that I can take picture with foreigners.” Huei-Chiao: “I received a gift from a sister. The sister told me that in the box, there's a cute small people and I can put it under my pillow. I can tell all my worries to the small people and the next day all my worries will be gone.” Wen-Chi: “I love the most about Portugal painting! They can even draw it on our faces, very beautiful!” Yen-Chi: “I like one of the country's canned fish. Although it looks oily, but it tasted sweet. And not forgetting special sausage too, it is different from what I taste normally.” Yuan-Yu: “The big sister from Cambodia is very enthusiastic. Their fried cricket tasted nice , and it tasted like our salted fried chicken."

AP To mention it, actually this is my second time joining in the Youth-to-Business Forum of an international conference in AIESEC after participating Asia Pacific Conference. But this time, instead of pure business sharing, this time the topics that have been discussed on the forum have more connection to the whole world. With invited lecturers from around the world, those discussed issues seems to be even more deep and wide than before. During the session in the afternoon, I took part in the discussion regarding to Sustainable Development. Because of I myself being in charge of those Incoming Exchange of Global Community Development Programs in AIESEC, so I have an interest in researching for the sustainable development and the balance from generation to generation. Each of us has been told to make a definition of “Sustainability”at the beginning, and then through the sharing from everyone, I came to realize that the “real sustainability” constructs its foundation on the basis of doing what this generation is pursuing without influencing to the next generation. If everyone can take the next generation into their accounts, then the world shall be more fair and unselfish. From the Y2B event, I discovered that there are still many youths willing to respond those Global Issues and then take actions that belongs to a youth. As youths in Taiwan, we should engage ourselves more into such an atmosphere of pursuing knowledge from a global level and to leave Taiwan, the island we live, or even AP Zone, to echo for the issues and problems happening at every corner around the globe!

If someone asks me, "What do you think of Taiwan?" The experience that I had in 2014 AIESEC International Congress will definitely appear in my mind. It's unbelievable to think that it was only Taiwanese youths who ran this world event. I'm glad that I was volunteer for this event as I got to showcase the Taiwanese spirit and culture to foreigners. We often have less confidence and are afraid to speak our minds. However, to hear from delegates that this is the best IC that they have ever been to and that they'll come to Taiwan again, I know that we should finally be proud what we have! Thanks AIESEC in Taiwan for hosting this large event and thanks for all of the touching stories from this experience. 41

This was my first time being an AIESEC volunteer. I can't imagine that I joined on a whim just from having glanced at their promotional poster. Though the processes took time, I learned and experienced a lot, which made my summer holiday impactful and fun. At first, I was given the task to guide AIESECers to the correct spot. When they passed, they showed their appreciation with a thumbs up, a bow, and some even gave me passionate hugs. Besides exchanging lottery tickets and explaining the rules and processes of the mission, I had the chance to go up on stage and be the assistant for the lucky draw. This gave me a chance to see what was happening behind the scenes on stage. I really appreciate working with excellent team members, meeting so many oustanding people, and most importantly, making lots of friends.

AIESEC AIESEC International Congress was hosted in Taiwan for the very first time since AIESEC in Taiwan was founded 50 years ago, striving for the vision of ‘Peace and Fulfilment of Humankind Potential’. The fact that they created a new era to this meaningful entity is something exciting and admirable. In Taiwan Night, we brought youths together to experience and explore Taiwan - and we, Kaohsiung Shadow Play Troupe, are proud to be a part of it. It has been our honor to share our local art and culture to the world. Throughout the congress, we have witnessed the proactiveness and detail-mindedness of their planning and execution and it is hard the believe that it was started from scratch not long ago. Each and every congress committee member I met was very energized and we would like to thank especially Hsieh Sheng-Yu, our key contact person for the Cultural Exhibition in Taiwan Night for spending so much effort in making sure everything goes well. These youths deserve compliments and appreciations. I wish them great futures ahead and the impact of the AIESEC International Congress shall sustain and continue to spread positive impact to our society.

Gala Dinner

Hosted on the last night of every AIESEC International Congress, the Gala Dinner plays a significant role in AIESEC. Besides awarding the annual excellence award to the outstanding member committes, it also represents the transition of the congress to the next hosting entity. Each transition moves AIESEC one step closer towards the future and sets the expectation for the next year. The Gala Dinner includes the transition, the annual awards, and the performances, all of which improve the atmosphere and enable delegates to have the ultimate experience. The perpetual goal of the congress is to have the spirit persist throughout. The Gala Dinner is not merely an evening part, but rather, it sets the future expectations and ignites the fire for the next AIESEC International Congress.

Transition Gala Dinner

AIESEC The most important part of the Gala Dinner is the "Transition" when the hosting entity passes on the spirit of the CC Team and IC to the next hosting entity. This is done not only for encouragement, but also to wish them the best of luck. The Gala Dinner is a venue for people to appreciate the effort, devotion and sacrifice of everyone, and AI will choose the best country in each function and announce them with honours. 43

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of AIESEC in Taiwan, an exhibition was set up to showcase the AIESEC values that the Alumni wanted to demonstrate. The exhibition's concept was to transition the values to the delegates and invite the world to celebrate AIESEC Taiwan's 50th Anniversary with us. With the involvement of the ALumni, the exhibition connected together the 50 years of history in AIESEC in Taiwan and the influence that the organization had on society as a whole.

GALA Dinner & 2014 AIESEC Gala Dinner

…… … AIESEC This is a rare chance and experience for me to be able to join Gala Dinner and also AIESEC International Congress 2014. Although I was a bit upset that I have to dress only my uniform for Gala Dinner, while the delegates all dressed up very nice, just like an Oscar dinner. But I am happy to be able to be part of this amazing congress. Eventhough I faced many technical difficulties while working on my job in Gala Dinner, but many thanks to the design team who co-operated with me in such a short time to made changes. The committee team did a good job too, as I understand to prepare for such a big congress, it requires many hardwork and effort. Thanks to everyone of you because you gave me a chance to involve in this congress. From this experience that I see many foreigners are here carrying their dream, meet up and then leave back to their country with a bigger dream to be the change maker of this world. This also made me recall back those days when I was still full with my dreams, wanted to bring positive change to the society etc..., but I don't know since when I have become like those people who just work and days just passes like this. But because of you all, my enthusiasm is back, although the way to achieve my dream is still far and difficult, but I will never give up again until I achieve it. Thank you AIESEC.

Gala Dinner 2014 AIESEC Van 2014 AIESEC ……

2014 AIESEC Eventhough we have been through many amazing nights, but this night is still very special, Gala Dinner on 24th August 2014. I still remember the excitement I have when I put up my suit, I still remember the firmness from every orator, I still remember bits and pieces from performances during opening ceremony, and of course I remember that night is the last night for International Congress in Taiwan. When the next Congress Committee President of International Congress in India was delivering his speech on the stage, I was thinking that Van must have did the same thing too when he was in Egypt last year. And our one year journey has started since then. There's an ending after the start of everything. Although we will miss it because it's really beautiful, but we still have to face it. We can capture all these beautiful moments and keep it as our precious memory. Anyhow, I believe that night is a great ending for International Congress in Taiwan. I also believe that for people who are there, this will be the energizer for us to move towards our next destination

Nan Nuttida / Thailand / Delegates Ni Hao! My name is Nan Nuttida Tangsophonphong and I am from Thailand! Participating in this sharing event, I had the chance to engage with local Taiwanese people and share my experiences and perspectives with them. I was asked to come up with three words to describe Taiwan. Those three words were passion, heart-touching and unique. From this sharing event, I got the chance to listen to the organizers of the in-depth-tour in Taiwan. They shared their motivations on showing the tribal culture of Taiwan and traveling along the railway. One of the most memorable answer was, "I want people to understand Taiwan by understanding and experiencing the origin of Taiwan. It is our duty to protect our homes and all of us are born with this duty." These people inspired me with their passion and efforts. Additionally, I am impressed by the friendiness of the people and their eagerness to interact with and get to know more about other cultures. I can say that by being here in Taiwan, experiencing this beautiful island, and interacting with all of these passionate people has brought me my most unique and heart-touching experience of my life. I love Taiwan!

“The International Congress is a very unique event for AIESEC, since it is the only moment that 700 top leaders of the organization are together at the same place deciding how to make AIESEC even better. It is an event full of personal realizations for the delegates and celebration of the amazing impact we are delivering to the world. During this IC 2014 in Taiwan we had not only those points, but also an amazing synergy between all the stakeholders present who made it such an outstanding IC. I call it outstanding because for the ones present in that congress it was really noticeable that what happened there was the needed thing for our current organizational context and that those 700 leaders were really the ones to make the transformation that AIESEC needs actually happen. I can proudly say that IC in Taiwan was the place where the movement of AIESECers in the final sprint of 2015 took place and the organization was able to reconnect to its relevance to the world today and be faithful that a better AIESEC is needed for a better world in the future. We all know that the journey to make those changes happen is not an easy one, but after feeling the heart-touching energy in that plenary in Taiwan I was totally sure that the needed support is already there in our network. And what makes me even happier is that all of the inspiration brought during this event already started to be translated into actions, what for me is even more important because this is when we are actually changing the world. I would personally like to thank every single individual who contributed for this IC to be as amazing as it was, specially the AIESEC International team, chairs, project managers, the congress committee and the partners of the conference. It was because of you that such an event was possible and I have a big trust that what we started there is really going to change our organization. Last but not the least, there is one last group of people extremely important for this conference: AIESEC in Taiwan. If it was not because of you guys having the dream to host International Congress and making it happen extremely well, I would not be here writing this letter with such a pride that I feel. Thank you for making AIESEC have one purpose and brave actions again!”

It started from a crazy idea originally, to let Taiwan to be seen by the world, to connect Taiwan to the world, and most importantly, to show that youth can make Taiwan a better place. But then I found out it's not easy at all. I still couldn't believe we turned those challenges into reality. To review from the bidding to the congress that has happened, it is just like witnessing a dream happen from a seed to a blooming flower. You need to work very very hard along the processes. Besides, you also need to be dare enough to take up challenges and be persistence till the end. Meanwhile, you might be questioned by externals or judged by others. But somehow you'll overcome these difficulties that you never thought you could. You will also learn about responsibility, pressure manangement, trust your peers and showcase Taiwan. Thanks to everyone who achieve this dream together, thanks to all my teammates. Thank you for the chance to be able to witness Taiwan is a place that can make miracles happened.

In these 500 days, we were often questioned by the society and I even doubted about myself. I did many mistakes and experienced many nervous moments. I wanted to achieve what I had today hence I devoted myself fully in it and strived to the end. Looking back at now, there are still many imperfections, but I do not regret about it. This is because we proved that Taiwanese yong people are able to hold this conferece, and I believe that the influnece from this would sprout slowly and thanks for the endless support from seniors.

In this one and a half year adventure, although the road is full of setbacks, but all for the same goal, is to let the world to see Taiwan, and also to prove that young people are capable to bring change in a positive way. We have overcome all these obstavles. I always believe in the existence of frustration is just to prove yourself on your eagerness to achieve the goal. Our passion help us overcome these setbacks. Besides, we also learned how to use more efficient and practical way to reach the goals. In the process of preparation, we made friends from all over the world. The supports from all the partners and seniors made us able to complete the adventuruous journey together, and this gave the most special memories to ourselves.

While the congress committee was giving our final closing presentation, I can deeply feel the sense of accomplishment and fulfilling. In these years, the goal we strive for and the impact we envisioned to create have all finally happened. The power of this fulfillment comes from the convinced belief we have and the contribution of Taiwanese society. We have not only bring the impact for the participants from all over the world, but also touch the heart of delegates with the most authentic and passionate Taiwanese culture. At the same time, it broadens our global horizon, and enables us to be proud and be confident of ourselves. Now is the time for us to enjoy the moment of glory and share it with every of you. We really appreciate all of you for co-creating this amazing congress with us.

The behind of the brightness of a dream is usually piled up with countless heartbreaks... but it is right that these obstacles that smashed the dream will make the mind of a human being become flexible and stronger, and it is right that the deepest self-doubt makes the growth of this year even more valuable and precious. It is always a happy and blessed thing for me to be endowed in such great responsibility and mission to host 2014 AIESEC International Congress before leaving the place that has cultivated me for four years. Even if I have seen much insignificance of myself during this year, I am sincerely thankful for the support and accompany of my families, the devotion and assistance from AIESEC Alumni and the trust and opportunities given by all the external partners. In the end, I would like to thank the EB team, it is because of our persistence and dedication that drives us to be here today. Thank you to my beloved ER team for willing to invest your time and effort and to hold a belief here. It is because of each one of you, that made me realize what has taught me the most in AIESEC is always something about leadership.

We prepare the congress for one and a half year in order to showcase the beauty of Taiwan to the world and also to enhance the confidence of society towards Taiwan. Several public relation events, around 800 delegates, over NTD four billion dollars budget..., the process of preparation is not smooth at all. Human resources, logisitc and sponsorship were the huge challenges we faced. At the closing, there were a round of applause and cheers from the audience from different countries, with different languages and cultures, but all were amazed by the quality and spirit of Taiwan. Thanks to all the teammates and people who helped us. We really made it, a heart-touching international congress. 54

Taking part in International Congress is truly a marvelous experience which brought me a group of new amazing friends, opened up my horizons, and let me learn a lot in volunteer work. It is my pleasure to be part of 2014 International Congress in Taiwan. In 10 days of medical volunteer work, I accompanied delegates to hospital, helped the cashier who doesn't speak good English in the convenience store, together with my teammate brought a delegate who is allergic to shrimp to purchase his prescription. Sometimes I freaked out when facing some emergency cases, but it reminded me that how much I need to improve myself as this is my field of study, this was a huge training for me, and I truly grow up. Thanks to all the Congress Committees’ efforts that brought such a fabulous event to Taiwan. Thanks to the medical volunteer work which allows me to see these historical moments happening right in front of my eye. Thanks to my mighty partners who formed the strongest backup... Once in a life time, an event, a group of special people, and a bunch of challenging cases would always shine as a sparkling star in my memory of late August in 2014.

The landscape in Ma-Yuan tribe is amazingly beautiful. However, the most beautiful part in the tribe is the people and their sincere hospitality. This is my second time to be in the tribe. People there welcome us kindly, just like the first time I was there. And it makes me feel that I am part of the family, the sense of warmth and relaxation. This time, having foreign delegates in the trip made the experience a lot different. The moment that touched my heart was when all of us, regardless skin color, nationality, nor background, in the forest sat around the fire, sang and listened to songs from different countries. This would be the most beautiful and precious moment in the world, and I was very lucky to be able to see this moment, on August 26-27. 2014, at Ma-Yuan tribe, Hualien.

This was a heart-touching event. The more I realized the purpose and background about it, the more energy and passion I have for it. It was a nice experience to meet the people from all over the world, in the result I got a lot of new friends. I would cherish this lifelong friendships and everlasting memory I made from the event. At the same time, I have told a lot of my friends about this event. When I see my friends' facial expression, I can tell that they are enjoying themselves in this event very much. They told me although their English is limited, but they had a lot of fun learning different cultures and trying exotic food. I was worried about my English at the beginning, especially when there was a group of foreigners walking towards me. However, in the end, I found out that through sincere smile and warm reminders will allow the delegates to immerse themselves into the atmosphere of the event. And from that moment, I am not afraid to communicate in English anymore. Last but not the least, eventhough the congress already end, I wish I can help with the continuation of the congress's goal, which is to allow the youth leadership sparks the world.

AIESEC 21 2014 When people celebrated the success in bidding 2014 Internationals Congress; the dream hadn’t come true yet, but started to realize from that moment. Unity is always our biggest strength. Because of IC, all the alumni connected for this significant milestone regardless of ages and roles. We built up the council, raised the alumni fund and encouraged more people to join us. As one of BoA group, I was responsible for the progress review and provided strategic suggestions for corporate sponsorship. We spent time with executive time, excited about good news and faced the bottlenecks together. It’s not simply how we appreciated and returned for AIESEC, and to once again live the good old days. We are proud of this group of young people, made IC come to reality amazingly. They are thoughtful, hospitable, innovative, cultured and have strong leadership, All these qualities completely inspired the world and made all our guests fall in love to this island. What they did for the society are undoubtedly role models for youth in Taiwan. Some people were against the decision of bidding at that time, yet we told to ourselves: If not now, when? At 2014 International Congress in Taiwan, we presented the greatness of 50 years, and this story is going to bring more hopes and drives to the future generations.
