John Carpenter is known for his lowbudget horror movies, such as Halloween and The Fog. To synthesize the essence of this filmmaker, my main approach was an experiment with typography through distortions and shadows to create the eerie feeling experienced by the audience while watching those movies.

Born on January 16, 1948, in Carthage, New York, John Carpenter developed an interest in film and music early on. At the University of Southern California, he had his first success with a short student film. While he enjoyed his biggest hit with 1978’s Halloween, Carpenter continues to thrill and disturb audiences with such films as The Ward.

This project theme is the Victoria Amazonica, a water plant that grows in the Amazon and is famous for its huge size. My approach was to develop visual elements that illustrate botanical books paired with typefaces that emphasize the plant’s features. In addition, the navigation of the book was carefully designed to represent the plant’s amusing proportions.

The topic chosen is “wall” which is divided in three representations: wall as an element that separates, encourages creativity or decorates; inspired respectively by the Berlin wall and Israel–Gaza barrier, the graffiti on walls and decorative glass walls. For the posters, I opted to show a continuous wall to represent the similarities and contrasts of its contexts and purposes.

My approach was to develop an app that assists the user to find typefaces for projects, identify existing typefaces on printed materials and pair typefaces, which is the primary feature. The objective of this app is to create a practical tool that gathers features from great apps in one place so they can be easily accessed by designers.

During the 90’s, Radioshack was a leading retailer of electronic goods. However, in the following decades, it failed to compete in various sectors which led to bitter decay and ultimately bankruptcy. For that reason, my approach was propose to re-brand Radioshack as a company that provides access to technology in order to stimulate innovation.

The chosen topic is pareidolia, an illusion caused by a vague stimulus that tricks the observer to perceive it as obvious and clear, such as faces in objects or intelligible words in white noise. My approach was to utilize humor to emphasize the playfulness of the topic and employ images to demonstrate the existence of such phenomena, as well as to entertain and amuse the reader.

Thank you to all the instructors who were part of my journey in graduate school. I appreciate all the time, support and knowledge you dedicated to contribute to my growth as a graphic designer. Thanks to: Hunter Wimmer, Mary Scott, Phil Hamlett, Kathrin Blatter, Michael Taylor, David Hake, Zack Shubkagel, Anthony Jagoda, Ariel Grey, Bob Slote, Sandra Isla, Andrew Loesel, Scott Rankin, Michael Kilgore. I also would like to thank all my friends who were always present to support me. And lastly, I would like to express all my love and gratitude towards my family. You were an essential piece for me to pursue my dreams and come to San Francisco. Thank you for the encouragement, support and love.
