ZHS Track State Champions
The Zachary Girls Track Team won the State Championship during the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Indoor Track at LSU’s Carl Maddox Field House last weekend. The Boys squad was the State Champion runner-up. The Lady Broncos won the meet’s final event, the 4x400-meter relay, to win their third Division I indoors title in four years with 66 points, ahead of 2017 champion Lafayette High (56). While the boys squad finished with 43 points. Notable runs included Zachary sophomore Sean Burrell set a mark in winning the 400 meters in 48.29 seconds. The Zachary girls had a double-winner in Orsciana Beard, who won the triple jump in 37-11 and the 60-meter hurdles in 9.35. Indya Jackson (400) and Kristian Jackson (shot put) were other winners for the ZHS girls. 2018 Pack the Pantry Gumbo Fundraiser
On Thursday, March 15, friends of the Zachary Food Pantry will once again host their chicken and sausage gumbo fundraiser benefitting the Zachary Food Pantry. The gumbo will be cooked on-site at the City of Zachary Parking Lot, located at 4650 Main Street by Paul Mier of Chris’s Specialty Meats and Cajun Catch, along with his volunteer team. Sales will be held from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. for $5 per take out order. Upon request, orders of 20 or more pre-sale gumbo lunches can be delivered at your designated time. Deliveries must be within the city limits of Zachary. Tickets can be bought in advance at the City of Zachary Utility Payment Office, located at 4650 Main Street. The Zachary Food Pantry volun-

All households who receive meals must properly qualify annually according to income criteria and must reside in the Zachary Community School District boundaries. Bronco Wrestling Team Finishes Strong Season
These five young men led the team to a record-breaking year for Bronco wrestling. The team set a school record in Division 1 for team points scored (124.5), highest team finish (8th), and most state placers (5). They beat their team placement from last year by eight spots and beat their previous year’s team score by 71.5 points. Junior Wes Brady became the first Zachary state finalist in Division 1 since 1987. He lost in overtime to returning state champion Perry Ganci of Jesuit in a great match. Sophomore Kenyon Martin beat his seed by two spots in upsetting the 3 and 4 seeds to take 3rd at 182. Junior Caleb Jackson met his seed and created a lot of excitement along the way. Caleb placed 4th after only having wrestled for 6 months when considering time away for football. Junior Caleb Mickelson beat his seed by two spots as he upset the 5th seed to place 5th at 170. This is Caleb’s first year of varsity competition in Louisiana after transferring from Oklahoma over the summer. And last but certainly not least, senior Chris Hart beat his seed by 1 spot after upsetting the 5 seed for 5th place at 195. None of these young men had ever placed in a state tournament before. Four other wrestlers won 3 matches at the state tournament in juniors Chance Jackson (132), Joe Elbert (145), Austin Landry (152), and Travis Hale (160). Chance Jackson has only wrestled for 2 months. The ceiling for improvement is high for this team. We will call this season “The Ground Breaking” for the future of the Broncos.

Lane Regional Medical Center Names Troy David Employee of the Year
Troy David was named Lane Regional Medical Center’s 2017 Employee of the Year. David is a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. David was recognized for his dedication and outstanding work. He was named Employee of the Month in November 2017 and was selected Employee of the Year from the 12 monthly honorees of 2017. David has worked at Lane for six years. He is a graduate of Florida State College and a member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. David served 10 years in the United States Navy. “I am honored and grateful to be chosen as employee of the year,” said David. “Congratulations to all the nominees and to my exceptional teammates in the Intensive Care Unit. This is a team award and I am excited and proud of our accomplishments.”

Cheyenne Procell Crowned “Worlds Jr. Teen Miss Louisiana 2018” Cheyenne Procell, a resident of Clinton, has recently been named Worlds Jr. Teen Miss Louisiana 2018. Bank of Zachary Encourages Americans to Save During America Saves Week February 26-March 3
The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) and Bank of Zachary are joining thousands of organizations, which are encouraging Americans to take action during America Saves Week, Feb. 26 - March 3. “Community banks are trusted financial advisors,” said ICBA President and CEO Camden R. Fine. “Consumers should look to community banks as a resource for reaching their short- and long-term savings goals as they work toward building wealth and achieving financial stability.” The Bank of Zachary offers the following tips to help consumers boost their savings: • Pay yourself first. Many employers offer automatic payroll deduction, which is one of the best ways to start and keep saving. Use those funds to contribute to a nest egg for your retirement. • Create a spending plan. Unlike a strict budget, a spending plan is a guide to help you take better control of your finances by tracking where your money goes to help prioritize your spending. • Start small. Setting aside just $2.75 a day (average cost of a cup of a tall latte) for one year can garner you a $1,000 towards that unexpected car repair. • Build an emergency fund. Plan to save six to nine months of living expenses. • Put your tax dollars to work. The recent tax bill expands 529 savings plans to include expenses for elementary and secondary education. The annual gift tax exclusion has increased as well.
It is also important to consider these factors in choosing where to place your savings: • Access to funds. Community banks use the latest technology so that customers can access their money when and where they need it. • Safety of funds. The FDIC insures deposits up to $250,000 per depositor and $250,000 for certain retirement accounts. No one has ever lost a penny of FDIC-insured funds. • Earning potential.
