Fittingly scheduled for February 14, Valentine’s Day, Mayor David Amrhein judged the 15 contestants entered into the City’s American Heart Month door decorating contest.
The contest, meant to bring attention to the cause of heart health as well as raise funds for the American Heart Association, began on February 1 when city employees and residents were encouraged to wear red as part of “Go Red” day, which specifically focuses on women’s heart health education. Winners of the contest were announced last week. First place went to Keller Williams Realty Red Stick Plus, Most Inspirational Door went to The Ruby Salon and Honorable Mention went to Merle Nor-

The 12 other contestants were the Bank of Zachary, Oakwood Village Assisted Living Facility, John Hendry Insurance Agency, Lane RMC, St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Superior Ford, Delta Financial Services, Rhonda E. Horton has been an outstanding resident of The City of Zachary for over 55 years, an educator for 27 years in the Zachary School System, and a devoted community leader, having served as a Zachary City Council-
man for 28 ½ years, and presently serving as Deacon and Treasurer of his Church, Union Baptist; and Whereas: David is married to Louise Stewart Horton and has one son, Stewart David Horton; and Whereas: David Horton taught Social Studies at Northwestern High and Northwestern Middle School when it opened, and saw its students through 1978; and Whereas: David Horton is a dedicated member of many civic and social clubs, including the Zachary Men’s Club, whose mission is to assist citizens of the Zachary Community who are in need, providing

Reaches for First
ZHS senior golfer Peyton McCulloch played in the Tuerlings Mardi Gras golf tournament and swept the field, shooting a -1 under par (71). The tournament was held on Monday, February 11 at Farm De Allie Golf Club in Carencro, La. The tournament field consisted of many Louisiana high school golf teams, including Tuerlings Catholic High, Barbe, Catholic, Sulphur and Sam Houston. Although the ZHS golf team was invited to attend and declined, McCulloch decided to enter as an individual player in the tournament. The non-stop rain resulted in a two hour delay in teeing off. The deluge continued for the entire tournament, making low scores almost impossible. McCulloch battled all 18 holes, firing a -1 par score of 71 to take the win and overall first place medalist. He won the tournament by eight strokes, making it “one of the largest wins in a high school tournament in years,” according to the tournament director. Peyton said, “I wanted this win for Zachary and for my friends on the baseball team.”
