Dry’s Pharmacy: Treating Every Customer with Personalized Service

By James Ronald Skains

John Dry has been dispensing pharmacy prescriptions in Zachary for the past 23 years, the last four as the owner of Dry’s Pharmacy located at 4344 Church Street in downtown Zachary. “That is our mission at Dry’s Pharmacy, to treat every customer as if he or she was our only customer,” John related to the Zachary Post. “Any of our customer that want it, I give them my personal cell number which I always answer so they can call me 24/7 if they have any questions related to their medication.’’ John is a 1982 graduate of Rayville High School about 30 miles east of Monroe. Rayville is known as the “White Gold” (Cotton) Capitol of Louisiana. He grew up on a farm and formed an affection for animals at early age, which influenced John to enroll at LSU in pre-veterinary medicine. During a summer vacation back in Rayville, a friend that was a Dentist, suggested to John that he consider becoming a Pharmacist since most of his college course credits would fulfill the science requirements to enter Pharmacy School. John followed his friend’s advice and eventually graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe

with a degree in Pharmacy in 1989. “My time at LSU was very special to me,’’ John told the Post. “I met my wife to be, Trish, on a blind date. Ironically, Trish was from Bastrop which is only 35 miles from my home town.’’ John and Trish now have three daughters. Shelby, 19 has followed in her mother’s career interest by pursuing a Theater and English curriculum at Samford University in Birmingham. Emma, the second daughter of John and Trish is in high school at Zachary. Grace, the youngest is in the seventh grade. Naturally, John and Trish are big Bronco supporters. “I’m really proud of my wife who just recently finished her degree in Theater Arts at LSU and now teaches in the Zachary school system,’’ John added. “We really enjoy living in Zachary and being a part of the community.’’ “After attending LSU, I knew that I wanted to live in South Louisiana somewhere close to Baton Rouge but in a small town atmosphere,’’ John pointed out. “We could not ask for a better place to live than Zachary.’’ “I want all our customers to know the staff very well, and have confidence that when they walk through the door to our pharmacy that they

will receive special attention to their needs,’’ John noted. “I continuously emphasize the importance of really caring for our customers to our staff, because when someone comes into our pharmacy, we know that they have either just been to a doctor, need a refill or have questions about their medicine.’’ “I was pleased to hear of an incident that happen in a class at LSU on the importance of how businesses should treat their customers,’’ John recalled. “One of the young men in the class told the class if they wanted to see a real example of customer care and service, they should visit Dry’s Pharmacy in Zachary.’’ John is an active member of the Zachary Chamber of Commerce and the Zachary Rotary Club. He and Trish and their three children are active members of the First Baptist

Church of Zachary. Typically, Dry’s Pharmacy has a staff of eight to take care of your needs any day you stop by. Reporter’s Note: This writer looked at a public website on which were posted a couple of reviews about Dry Pharmacy Services that indicate that John is on his way to achieving his goal in customer service. Jennifer D. of Zachary said, “Relatively new business in Zachary, but John has been a staple Pharmacist for over 20 years to Zachary. Dry’s still offers that small town, friendly personalized service that people remember and miss from Zachary years ago.’’ Erica D., also of Zachary wrote: “Love the down home friendly feel to this place. They attempt to remember your name – Service is quick – something that other pharmacies lack these days.’’
