New Zacharypost.com Launches Today! Readers know that every week, the Zachary Post features individuals in our ‘Milestones’ section who have an important event in their lives that warrants recognition. Well, now the Post has its own Milestone to announce. Today, we are officially launching our new website – www.zacharypost.com – featuring a fresh, new look, updated content, and a contest to celebrate this achievement! The website will feature all of the news stories appearing in the printed publication as well as additional, time-sensitive information, announcements, photos, and events. Additional features are planned for the future including a smartphone app and a virtual publication which will allow you to read the Post online and print out pages from any archived issue. The site launch also coincides with an updated Facebook presence at facebook.com/ZacharyPostNews. The Post has staked its claim on
the World Wide Web and we want to celebrate by giving our loyal readers the opportunity to win a prize package which includes an iPod Touch among other valuable prizes! All you have to do to enter the contest is visit our website at www. zacharypost.com, fill out the contest form, and then “like” us on our revamped Facebook page: facebook. com / ZacharyPostNews. Don’t worry, we will not use this information to barrage you with annoying communications, nor will we monopolize your Facebook Wall with unwanted posts (no pun intended!). Only one entry per person; the entry deadline is June 8 at 5:00 p.m. The winner will be announced online and in the Post on June 12, 2012. Good luck and please be sure to wander around our new website and let us know what you think!

Lane Behavioral Health Opens New Location in Baker Lane Behavioral Health Services, an affiliate of Lane Regional Medical Center, now offers individuals needing their services a second, convenient location. The new center, located at 5550-A Thomas Road in Baker, celebrated a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 10 with refreshments and tours of the new group therapy and individual treatment rooms. The center offers patients short-term assistance that is more than just a ‘helping hand.’ Individuals learn practical ways to deal with the sometimes difficult and traumatic events in life such as job loss and relationship failure, with intensive outpatient treatment for adults
18 and older experiencing lifealtering emotional crises, such as depression, anxiety, panic, stress or fear. A referral is not required for evaluation and if accepted, the goal is to help those in the program to return to their lives as thriving community members. The Baker location currently has approximately 17 clients who participate in individual and group therapy sessions. Service areas include Pointe Coupee, New Roads, Jackson, West and East Feliciana, Zachary and Baker. For more information, call 225-658-6652 or visit www. Jerry Boudreaux Receives LRTA’s Name of Fame Award Baton Rouge, LA - Jerry Boudreaux, a retired educator from Zachary, was recently named recipient of the 2012 Name of Fame award by the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association (LRTA). Mr. Boudreaux was honored during LRTA’s statewide Spring Meeting held in Alexandria on April 25. Jerry Boudreaux hails from Grand Point, Louisiana in St. James Parish. He graduated with a degree in education from SLI—now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette—in 1956, where he was a fouryear letterman on the school’s football team. He received his masters degree in education from LSU in 1963, and his masters plus 30 from LSU in 1967. Jerry began his 40-year teaching and coaching career at Leon Goudchaux High School in Reserve, Louisiana in 1956. In the fall of 1960, Mr. Boudreaux accepted a teaching and coaching position with the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board at Baker High School. He was appointed the assistant principal of Baker Junior High School in 1967, and was appointed principal of Zachary High School in 1970, the position he held until his retirement in 1995. In 1978, Mr. Boudreaux was elected president of the Louisiana
Association of Educators. He also served as president of the Louisiana Association of Principals for three terms and was namted the East Baton Rouge Principal of the Year in 1988. Throughout his education career, Mr. Boudreaux was very involved with the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. He served on the LHSAA executive committee for 10 years, served as chairperson
of the LHSAA School Visitation Program from 1995 through 2010, and in 1991, Jerry was inducted into the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame. After retirement, Mr. Boudreaux championed the creation of the Zachary Community School System, serving as co-chairperson of the committee for the creation of the system. He later served as the superintendent of schools of the Zachary Community School System. Mr. Boudreaux has dedicated significant time and effort to advance the causes of LRTA. He was elected vice president of the Baton Rouge Area Retired Teachers Association in 2004 and 2005 and subsequently served as president from 2006 through 2008. Mr. Boudreaux just recently completed his 2010 through 2012 term of office as the LRTA District IV President. Mr. Boudreaux and his wife Cherry, also a retired principal and LRTA member, have five children. They reside in Zachary, Louisiana. The LRTA Name of Fame Award was created in 2002 to honor Louisiana’s retired teachers for their leadership, organizational achievements and community involvement. The Association congratulates Mr. Jerry Boudreaux on being named recipient of this prestigious award.

Shoppers lined up early for the grand opening of the new Goodwill Store last week. The 13,000 s.f. store is number four in EBR parish and hopes to become a part of the community and not just a shopping center. It is part of our mission
to expand training for these exceptional employees as well as expand their community involvement.” The Zachary Store is no exception and after a short message from Mr. Jessee, the ceremonial ribbon was cut and the doors were opened to anxious shoppers looking for a bargain. The store hours are Mon-Sat, 9 am-8 pm and on Sundays from noon to 6 pm. Donations can be made during regular store hours.

Fire Department Prepares for Rapid Interventions
On Tuesday, May 08, 2012, Zachary Fire Department conducted a RIC (Rapid Intervention Crew) Skills Refresher. Since the start of the RIC Response Program in 2010, all firefighters in East Baton Rouge Parish are mandated to complete this course. Rapid Intervention Crews are designed to respond as a crew to other fire departments during confirmed working fires to rescue their brother and sister firefighters in case they become lost, trapped or disoriented. While we hope these crews never have to be utilized, they are trained and ready to do the job if called upon. Training Officer Captain Bert Kirby (ZFD), with the help of Central Fire Department’s Captain Chad Craven, conducted the training for the course objectives.
Lunch and Learn to Address Depression and Anxiety May 23, 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Depression and anxiety might seem like opposites, but they often go together. More than half of the people diagnosed with depression also have anxiety. Either condition can be disabling on its own. Together, depression and anxiety can be especially hard to live with, hard to diagnose, and hard to treat. But people do recover. You just need to find the right treatment. Professionals from Lane Behavioral Health will discuss effective treatment for depression and anxiety during a Lunch and Learn session on Tuesday, May 23, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in the Staff Development Classroom at Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary. Advance reservations are required by calling 654-5263. The session is FREE and includes a light lunch.
