Dear Membership, Hopefully your 2020 has started as positively as mine! Personally, spending the post-holiday season with family is a special time that is cherished and I know my daughters enjoy. Also, with the good weather we received in early January, we were able to make great headway on the pool project. The pool is beginning to truly take shape! After months of demolition, excavation and permit nightmares, we have concrete poured, pipes underground and a basement that has been demolished and prepped for winter work. If you haven’t been out recently, please take some time and join us to see the great progress being made. The work being done in the backyard is only matched by the work being done on the amazing events our management team has planned for you this upcoming year. One thing I constantly am challenging our staff to do is come up with amazing events to excite our membership and assist us in continuing our vision statement. Some of the most notably exciting events we are working on are going to be events no member should miss. See the new edition of the Event Calendar and block your schedules now to save the dates for the events you anticipate most! As for events coming soon, the Adult Bingo and Sushi Night on February 7th will be a delicious and fun night for date night or friends getting together…and letting us take care of the kids. The Father Daughter Dance will always hold a sacred place in many members memories, but the new and exciting Father Daughter Activity Night on March 21st will be the newest event in which we hope to continue this tradition. Fathers will help their daughters build a craft that will be located at the club for the entire year so that instead of one night of memory-making, we will see an entire year of enjoyment. The Scotch and Stogies patio event on May 20th will be a highly anticipated and exciting event in which we are inviting Capital City Cigar Lounge to share their expertise with our membership while we enjoy our newly finished (fingers crossed) patio. Chef Joe and his team have come up with some amazing menu items recently, and keeping with the excitement of these fun menus we will be having Pop-Up Restaurants throughout the year. These will be extremely limited availability events located around the club grounds meant for those who enjoy great food, good camaraderie and a cocktail…or two. Again, as I always say, it’s a great time to be a member of our club and it’s so much fun to be a part of making it all come together. I couldn’t be prouder of our membership, Board of Directors and our management team for everything we are accomplishing. From helping our membership grow, being more profitable and tackling capital projects we thought to be “too big” only 3 years ago is an amazing feat. Let’s keep the momentum going in 2020 and spread the word about how great our club is. If you know anyone who is interested in being a part of our amazing club, please have them contact me at 402.489.7111. Sincerely,

Zach Tyson

FROM THE PRO’S PERSPECTIVE Happy New Year! 2020 is here, and we clearly see spring right around the corner. This edition of the Highlights in addition to the Events Calendar will provide you all the information for planning your year of fun at Hillcrest. With each new year there is inevitable change. This year is no exception. We have bittersweet news to share with our Hillcrest family. Jerad Palmer, our Head Professional, will be leaving us to return to his hometown of Alliance, Nebraska, to become the Head Golf Professional at Skyview Golf Course. This is a great move for Jerad and his family: his wife, Amity, and daughter, Leala. He grew up playing this course, and he is returning to lead its golf programming. Jerad’s family, including his parents and brothers, still live in the area. It means a lot to him to be close to them. He will do a terrific job for Skyview just as he has done for the past six years at Hillcrest. Our Junior Golf program grew steadily under Jerad’s direction with team golf and snag golf. Additionally, he is a fantastic instructor. Many of our members improved under his teaching. We wish him well and thank him for his friendship and service. Good luck, Jerad! Sonya Freese will head up our Junior Golf program in 2020. Junior instruction is a passion for her, and she has many great ideas to keep it thriving. There will be some new faces in the Pro Shop this season. Please stay tuned. As many of you are aware, I had the privilege to own the golf shop merchandise over the past six years. The excitement of running a small business was a great experience. I have really appreciated the support of our membership. Thank you. Hillcrest has taken over ownership beginning this year. Our staff will continue to provide our members with the finest golf merchandise in the business. Please reach out to us with any golf equipment and/or corporate business needs. Our staff is here to help you. Again, looking forward to spring arriving (hopefully) soon, and another great year on the golf course. Sincerely, Mike Brown

MEET THE BEST GOLF INSTRUCTORS IN TOWN!

MIKE BROWN

Director of Golf – Hillcrest Country Club PGA Teaching Professional

As a PGA Member, I have been teaching golfers of all abilities and ages since 1997. During this time, I have had the opportunity to work alongside some amazing teaching professionals who have given me the framework to develop my own method for golf instruction. My method is to communicate proper techniques of pre-swing and in-swing fundamentals, offer drills, teaching aids and video feedback so the student will have the ability to play precise, predictable shots over a lifetime of golf. The game of golf has had a profound effect on my life in so many ways; most meaningful is helping golfers to improve and have fun playing. If you are looking to enjoy golf with family and friends and play more often without frustration, then the golf professional staff a Hillcrest stands ready to help you with your game. Please contact any of us to schedule lesson.

SONYA FREESE Head Golf Professional

My greatest passion is teaching the game of golf to people of all ages and abilities. I have 20+ years of experience and became a PGA member in 2013 and I have learned from some the very best golf professionals along the way! I have assisted in two clinics with Top 100 Teachers in America: Mark Hackett and Jim Murphy. I had the opportunity to be a part of group clinic given by PGA Tour Professional Mark O’Meara. I’ve taught several individual and group lessons and instructed Junior Golf Camps, Team Golf and Ladies Clinics. I was the Girls Head Golf coach at Lincoln Lutheran High School for two years. My teaching is all about having FUN while learning important aspects of the game. Let’s improve that confidence and that swing! Golf has made a huge impact in my life and it can do the same for you if it hasn’t already. Tell your friends to come out to join you! Call the Golf Shop at 402.489.8181 for details on lessons, clinics, Junior Golf and Team Golf.
