Dear Members, There is so much excitement and anticipation in the air this year! It is going to be so awesome to have a new pool to enjoy, and the Olympic Trials will be back in Omaha this summer! It will be especially fun to watch former Waterbug, Caroline Theil, compete in that meet! I hope everyone is having a good school year and that those who are swimming competitively, whether it be club swimming or competing for their high school/college team, are having a successful season. Now is the time to get your younger children into swim lessons so they will be a little safer around the water. The recommended age to start swim team is 6 years old (and swimmers need to be able to swim 25 meters to join the team). Our swim team season is short, so enrolling young competitive swimmers in a pre-season conditioning program or swim lessons will help give your swimmers an early start. Summer is such a busy time with vacations, camps and various opportunities, we always appreciate how our swim and dive team families try to plan to be in town for our Championship Meet. It is a very fun team experience that I hope everyone can enjoy. If your swimmer/diver competes in one regular season meet they are eligible to participate in the Championship Meet. Registration for summer programs will kick off on May 2nd at the Hillcrest Expo & Meet the Pros. We really appreciate everyone who attends registration, and your swimmers will enjoy seeing some of their teachers and coaches there too! Members who sign up for programs on that day will receive two free pool guest passes. Our team suits will be the same as last summer. Please check your team suits and see if you’ll be needing to order a new one for this season. There will be a swimsuit sizing kit available at registration. The order deadline is Sunday, May 10th to ensure that you will have them in time for the first meet. Hope to see you May 2nd! Jeanette Keller

SPRING HAS SPRUNG! As I write this message, the weather in late February is feeling like golf temps are here to stay...let’s hope so. I’m sure you are as eager as we are to get out on the golf course and enjoy everything Hillcrest has to offer. In early March our new fleet of Club Car Tempo model golf carts will be delivered. We are excited for you to enjoy the new features that include custom seats, updated body style, and convenient driver's-side duel sand bottles with passenger side coolers. The popular USB port and windshield will also be standard on these new models. Get ready, these new seats are AWESOME! Remember the annual cart lease is a convenient and affordable way to enhance your golfing experience. Your golf staff will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the cart lease program. New golf merchandise is arriving daily, and we are proud to offer golf’s finest products and equipment. In April we have scheduled Callaway, Mizuno and Ping fitting days for those who wish to be custom fit for clubs. Please see the scheduled dates in this edition of the Highlights and call the golf shop for your appointment. If you cannot attend a fitting day, not to worry...our popular all-vendor Demo Day will held Sunday, May 3rd from 2PM to 6PM. Also, your PGA golf professionals are certified fitters and will be available by appointment for all your custom equipment needs. Please give Mike or Sonya call. As a friendly reminder to our members, Hillcrest can be your “one stop shop” for corporate gifts orders. Please contact Sonya Freese and she will be happy to assist you in ordering that perfect gift, such as logo golf balls, logo caps, polos or those unique gift ideas. We offer competitive pricing and access to a wide variety of custom gift options. Hillcrest would love to earn your corporate business. With the event season approaching, please take time to review our Hillcrest Event Calendar to plan your summer of fun at Hillcrest. To sign up for events, members may call the Pro Shop and we will be happy assist you or use the Golf Genius System for added convenience. Finally, I want to extend a very special congratulations to Sonya Freese, who has been promoted to Head PGA Golf Professional. Sonya displays her joy for this business and love of Hillcrest everyday I’m around her. She will do a fantastic job in her new role and I feel fortunate to have her on the golf staff at Hillcrest. Congratulations, Sonya! Sincerely, Mike Brown

About the Cover Photo... "Lee and Anne Hendry joined Hillcrest in the mid to late 1950s (my parents, my two older sisters and I enjoyed the swimming pool and golf course so much)! I learned to swim and golf at Hillcrest when I was in grade school. I still remember the 'famous' Bunny Richards telling me during my first golf lesson that he wanted me to golf right-handed (despite being left-handed). He explained that it would help having a stronger left arm because that is where your power comes from...plus right-handed clubs were more available at that time. So, I did learn to play right-handed...not sure that I ever lived up to Bunny’s goals for me since I always preferred to swim with my friends rather than golf...haha! When Jim and I started dating, he too spent time at Hillcrest with my family and we even had our wedding reception at Hillcrest in November of 1971. We remember fondly attending many couples’ golfing events back in the '70s and '80s followed by a dinner/dance with a live band...those were the days! The golf clubs that are pictured were my Dad’s (Lee Hendry) clubs from the early 1950s that we discovered in a closet in his garage...complete with Gary Player golf balls, clubs with wooden shafts, leather suede club covers, old score cards and Bunny Richards Hillcrest tags. Jim was so pleased with the 'find' that he had to take them out one day (in honor of Dad) to show them off and try to play with them. Jim learned quickly that his 'new' clubs worked much better than Dad’s 'old' clubs but it was definitely worth a trip down memory lane!" - Janie (Hendry) Dobler
