Dear Member, Get ready for an exciting end of summer season! The management team has been working hard to make sure we end our 90th golf season with some spectacular activities. Mike Brown and the Pro Shop staff are excited to bring some fantastic events your way. The Men’s Stag Finale: “Stogies, Bogies & Brews” on October 17 is the first time our golfers will split their focus evenly between golf, local craft beers and great food. If our men can make it through, then this is sure to be an annual event. The 90th Weekend Friday Stag with the Party on the Patio following on Friday, September 21st is going to be a great time to show off the club in all it’s historical glory, so be sure to invite your friends to make a fun day and night out of this event. With the trends of golf leaning toward fun and leisure, we still need to recognize some of our true golfers who respect and appreciate the challenge involved with the game of golf. This is the exact reason for the first ever Pro/Member Invitational at Hillcrest Country Club on October 5th. If you haven’t already expressed your interest in participating in this exciting and challenging event be sure to contact the Pro Shop soon. In the last 90 days at the club, Chef Joe Andersen has put together a fantastic menu with exciting new items like the Southwest Chop Salad and the Memphis Chicken Sandwich. He has also been assembling an amazing culinary team that is sure to execute the needs of our club on a regular basis. My main challenge to him and his team is to improve the integrity of our restaurant and ensure that he puts out a product we can all be proud of. So please be sure to make a reservation and join us soon to try some of this great food our kitchen is producing. Make your reservation online or by calling the club at 402.489.7111. Finally, I would like to discuss our club’s fall promotion. With the success of the Visionary Preview Program, the board has decided to run another exciting fall promotion. New members joining in September & October will receive reduced initiation fees as well as membership credits. I’m also extending the referral credits to current members as well. Please contact me to discuss full terms or tell your friends and family to setup a tour soon by calling me at 402.533.4823. As always, it has been a great summer and the management team is excited to have a successful fall season. Enjoy your Husker Football, homecoming parties and fall festivities outside of Hillcrest, but be sure to stop in and enjoy everything your amazing club has to offer in the coming weeks. Sincerely,

A Message from the General Manager Zach Tyson

HILLCREST HAPPENINGS Do you have marriages, births, anniversaries, retirements, celebrations, messages of thanks, etc. to announce to the Hillcrest community? If you would like to include your news in the next edition of the Hillcrest Highlights, please email your submission to Becca at bsimley@hillcrestcountryclub.com by Friday, October 19.

THANKS, KAITLYN, BREANNA & GRACE! We wish to take a moment to thank these Hillcrest ladies who were the brains behind our first annual Junior Member/Guest Invitational. This event was one to remember from the summer and we can't wait for next year! These three girls (from left), Kaitlyn Dumler, Breanna Kirby and Grace Lonowski, came up with the idea and helped see it through. Thanks, ladies, and good work!

A MESSAGE FROM MAKE-A-WISH NEBRASKA What a successful fundraiser the Hillcrest Fox in the Hen House was! Your event helped raise $2,929 for Make-A-Wish® Nebraska. Your support helps us continue to grant wishes to children in Nebraska with critical illnesses. Wishes make a life-changing impact on a child's life. And you all help make them possible! After dealing with all the symptoms and side-effects of treatment for leukemia, 5-year-old Gage desperately needed something special to lift his spirits and give him the strength to keep fighting. When asked what his wish would be, he knew he wanted to go to Florida to visit the theme parks. He specifically wanted to ride the Lightning Bolt McQueen and Frozen rides and to meet Mickey Mouse and Princess Elsa. So, Make-A-Wish — and generous people like you — stepped in to make that dream a reality. Gage is the youngest of 3 boys and is sometimes overwhelmed by his older brothers. But this was his time to shine! He got to make all the decisions on this trip — which rides to ride, what sites to see and what food to eat! The whole family had a great time, starting the minute they stepped into the limo for the ride to the airport, to the airplane trip, to staying at Give Kids the World, a resort which is specifically set up for wish families. Then it was on to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios and their trip ended with Gage sound asleep on the limo ride home, exhausted but happy! Every wish is designed especially for a child. The wish experience enriches the life of the child and their entire family. For the family it is a time to create cherished memories that sometimes may have to last forever. Because of your involvement, more children will be able to experience the power of a wish. Thank you for helping us transform lives, one wish at a time! Sincerely, Melissa Davis-Schmit Regional Director

CONGRATS, NOAH!

Congratulations to Noah McCashland, who just earned a walk on spot as a place kicker for the Huskers Football Team! Noah is the son of Pat & Courtney McCashland.

CONGRATS, TENNIS PLAYERS!

Help us congratulate these Hillcrest members who won the following Lincoln Tennis Association Awards: Aaron Ogden (Adult Player of the Year); Nancy Johnson (Adult Rec Player of the Year); and Dave Stoupa (Community Service). Page 8

From the Pro’s Perspective Our best golfing weather of the year is right around the corner and with many great golfing months remaining this season, please consider some of the fun membership events scheduled for September and October. See the following pages for more details. Members' enthusiastic participation makes Hillcrest a uniquely special club in the Lincoln community. We have had great stories this summer on the course. Here are some highlights… Congratulations to new Hillcrest member, Cliff McDow, on winning his first Club Championship title. Cliff defeated Chris Ober in the final match of the weekend on #17. Both players won their spot in Sunday’s final by dispatching Mike Peterson and Dale Roehrs during Saturday’s semi-final. This was not an easy task as both Roehrs and Peterson are past champions. Karen Ogle added to her impressive list of championships winning the Women’s Club Champion with a one-shot victory over past champ, Vena Alesio. Vena was also the low player in the Master’s Division and won her first Net Master’s Division title. Congratulations to our champions! The Husband/Wife teams displayed great play and unbelievable scoring in July’s Husband & Wife Tournament. Gary and Deb Dulgar won the tournament with an -11 (61) net best ball score to edge out Derek and Jen Lyman who shot 63. Thanks to all the couples for a great tournament. Hunter Hall won his second Junior Club Championship during the August Tournament. The 18-hole event was rescheduled due rain, however, that didn’t dampen the fine play by all the junior golfers. Hunter needed a playoff to defeat fellow East High teammate, Jack Christiansen. Congratulation to Miles Elgert and Max Moss who tied for the boy’s 9-hole division and Isabella Elgert for winning the 9-hole girl’s division. Our very popular Junior Golf Summer Program had a fun and productive year while developing our future golfers. Jerad Palmer, along with assistant coaches Sonya Freese and Charlie Borner, lead the Hammerhead Golf Team into competition this past spring and into the late summer. The Hammerheads are young and talented after losing some veteran players from last year. Let’s just say, the future is BRIGHT at Hillcrest. Best in Golf, Mike

Past President

Dear Members, Another summer has flown by, but it is so nice to be able to extend the pool season beyond Labor Day. We’ve really had some great experiences at the pool in July and August. The Try Scuba Class was enjoyed by those who attended – and what a beautiful morning for it! We had a blast sharpening our log rolling and stand up paddleboarding skills. Congratulations to Collin Carnie, who holds the new club record for Log Rolling – 3 minutes, 16 seconds! The two Sunrise Yoga sessions in August were wonderful; Preschool group swim lessons are going strong; the Back to School Party was so much fun (special thanks to Kason Cade for providing the awesome music!); and it’s great to see the morning lap swimmers extending the season! This is a perfect time to squeeze in some private swim lessons for both adults and children – take advantage of the quiet, less busy pool! I’d thank to thank all of the swim team families for another great season! We had nearly 100 swimmers participate in the League Championship Meet at Bob Devaney. I loved all of the dedication and commitment shown by both the swimmers and parents! The coaches always strive to produce swimmers who use proper technique, compete well in the more challenging events, and understand the importance of working as a team. Out of the seven teams in our league, Hillcrest swimmers accounted for nearly half of the entrants in the two hardest events (Butterfly and the Individual Medley). They also broke 10 of the 11 new meet records. Congratulations to the following new record holders: the 13-14 boys Medley Relay (Luke Bryant, Eli Vyhlidal, Louis Antinoro, Jackson Bartling); Emily Artz (Backstroke and I.M.); Eli Vyhlidal (Breaststroke and I.M.); Ellie Buresh (Breaststroke); Sydney Moore (Butterfly and Freestyle); and Chip Roberts (Butterfly and I.M.) This was the ninth year in a row that the team has won the League Championship Meet. I really think it is largely due to the number of 13 and older swimmers we have on the team – it is so wonderful to see these swimmers grow up, as they come back to swim for the team each summer. They are great leaders, very fun to watch, and really make our team strong, year after year. Please mark your calendars – the 2019 League Championship Swim Meet will be Monday, July 15th! The Diving Team also did very well at the Parks and Recreation League Championship Meet, at Woods Pool, placing second out of seven teams. Four of our ten divers won their age divisions! If you missed our awards banquet, remember to pick up your awards in the pool office. There is a group of morning lap swimmers, that swim on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, so if you are interested, please join us! (cell: 402-450-8660, or email: bk04745@windstream.net) Please check Lost and Found in Teencrest for anything you may have left at the pool this summer! Hope to see everyone at our Labor Day End of Summer Bash! Jeanette Keller
