Dear Membership, With all the activities going on around our incredible club, I wanted to update everyone on our progress. We have three major projects happening, and with them evolving daily, I feel it is necessary to update you on all the recent developments. The Irrigation Project This has been a whirlwind of activity with our amazing partners, Landscapes Unlimited. I am happy to announce that we have added a total of 1,200 irrigation heads pumping nearly 1,000 gallons per minute. Previously, our course was irrigated with only 600 heads pumping about 800 gallons per minute. We are already seeing the benefits of having better water coverage around the course and experiencing healthier greens, fairways and tees despite only operating at 60% capacity. The north well has a new motor and is operating at full capacity. However, the well located at the bottom of #18 fairway is still under reconstruction and is scheduled to be finished at the end of September. This project is nearly complete and with it coming in on budget at just under $2M, I’m excited to put focus on the other projects around the club. The Pool and Backyard Renovation Our pool was originally installed in 1932 and has been the hub for creating memories for our families for the last 87 years. This pool has been the source of happiness, relaxation and family connection for so many families, and very few clubs can say they have such a special place as this. Our future plans create a modern, fun, family-friendly environment to continue this tradition. On Sunday, August 11th we said goodbye to this amazing part of our club in our classic fashion with an epic poolside party! At this party, we had over 600 people in attendance enjoying live music, games, food and friendship. Demolition of the backyard and pool area has begun and with a bit of good weather we expect our pool will be up and operational by Memorial Day Weekend 2020. A side project that is coinciding with the pool renovation is the beautification of the front entry. Over the coming months you will notice new landscaping, fresh paint, new sod, and a fresh clean look developing around the front entrance of the club and Pro Shop. The A Street Entrance and Sewer Connection Heritage Builders is beginning to install their sewer and water connection to our property line. At the same time, the city is working on getting Heritage connected to their water and sewer extension project. This will not be ready for us to connect to until the spring of 2020. Therefore, we are still utilizing our current system. With all this work being done around our A Street entrance, we are now beginning the phase of construction during which this entrance will be closed for intermittent times over the course of the coming months. With the help of Nick Cusick, we are working on getting a sign located on the corner of 84th and A to indicate whether the entrance is open or closed daily. However, until that time, please plan accordingly and continue using the O Street entrance as the main entrance to the club. The city has contacted me and

indicated that they will begin their phase of the A Street construction beginning in the spring of 2020. As this project develops, we will keep you updated, as we fully understand it affects many of the activities around the club. The Annexation The city has annexed the Clubhouse, Grounds & Greens building and our parking lots. As for the rest of our property, the East O Board, the Hillcrest Board and the city are in discussion for when we will be moving forward with full annexation. However, we are years off from this happening. Membership The Visionary Preview Program has again been a great program and given more families an opportunity to preview everything our club has to offer as well as give our membership credits to enjoy around the club. Going into the final months of the Visionary Preview Program, our membership is in a healthy state with 524 families (354 Golf and 170 Social). Please share with your friends and family that this great opportunity is in its final stage. In 2020 we will have arguably the best course in town, the newest and best pool in Lincoln and the greatest backyard space that offers friendly service, fun activities and a relaxing environment. The Visionary Preview Program again offers a half-priced Initiation Fee in addition to monthly credits for the joining member as well as the referring member. Please contact me at 402.533.4823 for more information.

• Our membership should be proud of everything our club is doing to ensure that we continue to be the preferred club for creating extraordinary experiences and memorable stories for our families. We have an exceptional membership, management team and Board of Directors. If you would like any more information on any of the projects or programs please stop by my office, call or email me. Sincerely,

A Message from the General Manager

Zach Tyson

FROM THE PRO’S PERSPECTIVE Thank you to all our members for your support and patience during the club’s irrigation project this summer. I think we all can agree the project was done most professionally and with as little disruption as possible. The course is showing nicely and will be especially beautiful this fall. Members' enthusiastic participation makes Hillcrest a special club in the Lincoln community. There have been great stories this summer on the course. Here are some highlights… The Men’s & Women’s Club Championships were contested in May and there was fine play in both tournaments. Spencer Hilsabeck defeated Matt Peppmuller to win another club championship. K.C. Bunting won her first club championship this spring in a dominating performance. Congratulations to both our Club Champions. Bunny Richards Memorial Member/Member was another strong field and the scoring was competitive. Eight flight winning teams made the horserace to determine our champion. Pat McCashland & Jeff Keller won the horserace to claim the victory, defeating flight winners: D'Amico/Ober, Ogle/Tschirren, Lucchino/Sims, Shirk/Lien, Hamer/M. Lyman, Westphalen/Schlueter and Zaborowski/Lonowski. The Women’s Solheim Cup (Member-Member) was contested in the heat of July. The scoring was even “hotter” during Sunday’s final round. With a 68 on Saturday, Julie Robinson & Cheryl Ober needed to hold off charges by the teams of Lori Peterson/Shari Barnhill and Jerolyn Juedes/Kristi Reins after both teams carded 66. However, Robinson and Ober had it on cruise control and finished with a round of 67 to secure the championship. The Husband/Wife teams displayed great play and unbelievable scoring in July’s Husband & Wife Tournament. Doug and Denise Larsen won the tournament with an -11 (61) net best ball score to edge out the couples teams of Reins, Shirks, Rees and Barnhills who all shot 63. Nick and Cindy Buresh won the Diamond Flight with a 65. Thanks to all the couples for a great tournament. Thomas Casady won his first Junior Club Championship during our August tournament. We had a beautiful day and fine play by all the junior golfers. Casady, (a junior on the Pius X golf team) played steady, shooting 82 and edging out East High teammates Caleb Shirk (84) and Cooper Green (84). Kaitlyn Dumler (East High) played well shooting 87 to win the Girls 18-Hole Championship. Congratulations to Max Moss for winning the 9-hole boys division, and Addison Shirk for winning the 9-hole girl’s division. It was another great summer of tournament golf at Hillcrest. Thank you to all of our competitors. Best in Golf, Mike Brown

Dear Members, What a summer it has been! We’ve sure made a lot of great memories – early morning water aerobics started in June, poolside movie day was a big hit, and we closed out the season with several mornings of sunrise yoga, a diving class and a mini session of preschool swim lessons. The Log Roll was back for a few days too – congratulations to Henry Korsmo, the new club champion with a time of 3 minutes and 56 seconds! The swim and dive teams closed out this chapter of Hillcrest swimming history in style. Our swimmers won their tenth consecutive league championship title and the divers won the Parks and Recreation City League Championship meet for the first time in recent years. There is definitely power in our numbers – we had 21 swimmers, ages 13 and over, compete for us in the championship meet. It is so fun to see these swimmers, who have been in the program for quite a few years, come back to lead and inspire our team! A heartfelt thank you to our 15 –18 year old swimmers: Maddie Hesse, Abby Lewis, Mallory Schmidt, Hattie Vyhlidal, Louis Antinoro, Luke Bryant, Jake Buresh and Eli Vyhidal. Thank you to the parents, as well, for all of your dedication and support! Please mark your calendars for the 2020 League Championship Swim Meet – Monday, July 13th! (The Championship Dive Meet is typically the Thursday after the swim meet, but the date is not made final until early next year.) Congratulations to our 2019 “Waterbug Award” recipients: Jessica Vieyra, Peter Bryant, Samantha Dearking, Matthew Vieyra, Tatum Lewis, Samuel Huck, Maddie Hesse, Jude Bryant, Karmi Munford, Owen Lewis - Thanks for your dedication to the team and winning attitudes! It was wonderful to see so many families out enjoying the pool for our final pool party. We had some old friends out to help us celebrate. I was impressed when several people recalled a former Hillcrest Pool Manager, Mike “Bubba” McCann, breaking the Guinness World Record for treading water (approximately 30 hours), in our pool, around 1973. Although it is a little bittersweet to say goodbye to our 87 year old pool, I do feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to share such a historical pool with you! I’m looking forward to sharing the excitement of opening a brand new pool next year, which will offer many more years of enjoyment to come! Sincerely, Jeanette Keller

Past President

Dear Members, I would like to use this publication to review the summer we had and acknowledge certain participants. In May, we started off with having our Team Tennis Warm-Up Clinic, which was a good way to place Varsity and Junior Varsity players while also helping us get acclimated with our new early start team tennis schedule. We also offered a first-time Pre-Summer Tennis Camp that went over really well and helped some players get a jump-start into the summer. Varsity Team Tennis had a great season. With having one of our best all-around teams in recent years, it made for some very challenging/fun practices. Junior Varsity had a lot new first-time team tennis players, but it had its share of experienced ones as well that were good team leaders. The coaches and I were impressed on how much they improved over June and July. It was a fun team to coach, especially when you see the improvement curve rise rapidly not only physically, but mentally. The 4th of July Junior/Adult Mixed Tournament had a fun mix of teams and the following weekend was the 4th Annual Hillcrest Adult Open. Please see pictures for our winners. The Travel Team went to Fremont on July 12, and five out of the eight finished. This was even a few players' first USTA Tennis Tournament! In addition, at the Cornhusker games we had eleven players partake and five received a medal in singles or doubles. After Session 2 ended, we started the ever-popular morning camps, which coaches get to see the rapid improvement due to having participants for a large period of time over many consecutive days. This is a lot of the coaches' favorite camp! We enjoy getting to know everyone better during these weeks. High School Prep Camps went on in the afternoons after Session 2 as well, and had a great turnout with players that varied in skill levels from Varsity to just hoping to make the reserve team. Players worked hard and had fun (except for maybe the run to "O" St.) with having players from Southwest, Pius X, Waverly and East participating. We finished the really busy two weeks by having our annual Junior Open (please see pictures for the results). Session awards are voted on by coaches from all of our groups and hope they help motivate players in the program: Session 1 Most improved: Chris Woerth Footwork: Tatum Lewis Sportsmanship: Kason Cade

Session 2 Most improved: Piper Lyons Footwork: Gabe Whiston Sportsmanship: Emma Miller

Week 1 Camp Footwork: Jt Reid Sportsmanship: Tatum Lewis Ball Pickup: Beth Bryant

Week 2 Camp Footwork: Braylon Mueller Sportsmanship: Anna Beth Schupbach Ball Pick-up: Sam Huck

All in all it was a very productive and eventful summer! A special thanks to our tennis staff for being professional as well as giving a fun/safe environment for our players to train. Thank you also to Hillcrest employees and chefs for making our theme events go over so well! Hope to see you out this fall for Junior Clinics or the Brews, Blues & BBQ Adult Mixed Doubles event on September 13th, and/or at Genesis Racquet Club this winter. Best regards, Sam Nelson
