Dear Membership, What an exciting time to be a part of our club! Reviewing this edition of the Highlights is exciting (and simultaneously frightening) with all the new and exciting things happening around the club. With all the new events over the past month, innovative golf formats, unique dining options and exciting Junior activities the management team definitely has their work cut out for them. I am excited to share the success of our recent months’ new and traditional events. This year we saw over 600 members and their families over Easter Weekend. The Murder Mystery Dinner, Dance Class Series and Drive-In Movie were also great successes because they created memories for our membership that will last a lifetime. With these great successes behind us, the management team and I are excited to look ahead at the golf, swim and tennis season ahead! I challenged the management team this year to “think outside the box” and keep our club relevant in the community of Lincoln. That challenge was accepted differently in each department, but I feel like everyone is pushing hard moving forward to ensure they meet my challenge. Our summer staff of over 130 employees are being led by our amazing management team. Mike Brown and his team are working diligently on new events like the Straw-Hat Classic, Junior Member/Guest, and the Pro Member event. Sam Nelson is crushing it with his full calendar of junior and adult tennis developmental programs. Jeanette Keller and her amazing lifeguards are ready to take the City Championship again while having the most fun in town. Chef Jeremy, Kim Cotton, Dustin Fuhrman and Courtney Reeves are busy hiring and training our new staff to ensure we are ready to take care of your families and deliver a truly great dining and drinking experience all around the club. If you haven’t been out to the club recently to enjoy our amazing menu selections, please come visit us soon and taste the great food we are creating. Brian Hellbusch, “Dr. Dirt”, has been adding a level of attention to our course conditions that hasn’t been seen at our club in the past. We always have a respectable course but this year the Grounds and Greens crew is raising the bar! Becca Simley, the face of HCC’s social media is paving the way for our club to be recognized nationwide as a trend-setting club. This is truly an exciting time to be a member of Hillcrest Country Club! My team and I are happy to serve you and create those memorable stories for your families. We hope to see you around the club soon. Sincerely,

A Message from the General Manager Zach Tyson

FROM THE PRO’S PERSPECTIVE With the less than desirable weather in March and April, it is great to be golfing again at Hillcrest. Please come out to enjoy your golf course and its beauty. Hillcrest again will have an extensive calendar of fun golf events for our members this summer. There will be new event offerings, as well as the tried and true favorites. This addition of the Highlights will help you make some golfing plans. Please join us for great fun this summer! I would like to encourage our youth golfers and their parents to play the family short course tees while at Hillcrest this summer. Our permanent short course tees are a great way to enjoy the game from an appropriate distance with the whole family. This season we are offering the Family Tee Challenge. Junior golfers can return their scorecards to the golf shop and Sonya Freese will post and update the top ten best 9-hole scores for the front and back-nines. A scorecard will be available in the golf shop for all players wanting to participate in the Family Tee Challenge this summer. See if you can post a top score! Hillcrest is thrilled once again to be a local qualifying site for The National Drive Chip and Putt Championship on June 2nd. The finals will be contested at The Augusta National Golf Club in April of 2019. This is a great opportunity for local juniors as well as our very own Hillcrest junior golfers to compete in this fun and rewarding event. For more details or to register please visit www.drivechipandputt.com or visit the Hillcrest webpage to see the ad. The Nebraska PGA will be on-site operating the Drive Chip & Putt qualifier. The PGA have asked for volunteers from Hillcrest to help on the day of the competition. If you are interested in being a volunteer for this special day, please contact me at 402-489-8181 or Kyle Hershberger (DCP Committee Captain) at 402-499-3749. The Drive Chip and Putt competition will be using the driving range and large practice green. The golf course will still be available for member play. In closing, Jerad and I are looking forward to our members meeting and getting to know our new golf professional, Sonya Freese (pronounced “Fray-zee”). Sonya is an amazing person and PGA Professional. Her impact to our golf programs will be felt in many positive ways. I know she is excited to meet each of you. Help me welcome Sonya to Hillcrest! Sincerely, Mike Brown

OUR POLICIES SOCIAL MEMBER GOLF PRIVILEGE A Social Golf Membership affords a playing privilege a total of 6 times annually. These rounds are not transferrable and are considered redeemed if 9 or 18 holes have been played. A social member may rent the use of a riding cart. Reservations for play must be arranged by calling the Golf Shop at 402.489.8181.

GUEST PLAY A playing guest may be hosted for golf a total of 6 times annually, and is inconsequential of the member hosting. This includes Men's Stags, Men's Golf Breakfasts and Ladies' Guest Events. All guest rounds must be registered in the Golf Shop and guest fees settled before play.

MONDAY PLAY POLICY REMINDER The golf course and the practice facilities open at 12:00 PM on Mondays (when the club is not hosting an outside event). We do not allow golf or practice to begin before this time. The Board of Directors asks all members and their guests to observe this policy.

DRESS CODE • The dress code is in full effect May 1 through October 1. • The Board of Directors reminds all members and their families that the club does enforce a dress code for the golf course and all practice facilities. • All males must wear shirt with sleeves. Shirts without collars must be suitable country club style. • Males and females may wear shorts, as long as they are mid-thigh length. • Jeans are not acceptable attire from May 1 through October 1. Razor cuts or torn jeans are never appropriate. • Unacceptable dress includes tank tops, halter tops, tube tops, cutoff shorts, jogger shorts, gym shorts and swim trunks. • Oversized and sloppy attire are not appropriate for a country club atmosphere. • Everyone must wear shoes. Shoes with pronounced heels and cleated soles are prohibited on the golf course. • Please remember to apply the tenets of good taste.

Dear Hillcrest Golf Membership, The following letter will detail Hillcrest Country Club's golf handicap program. The golf committee would ask that you familiarize yourself with this important information concerning members and guest handicaps. In an ongoing effort to ensure that our member-only and member-plus guest events have strong participation the handicap committee will be conducting periodic handicap reviews. These reviews have been encouraged by the United States Golf Association in accordance with the USGA Handicap Manual. The main purpose behind the GHIN Handicap Service is to provide a fair Course Handicap for each player regardless of ability. Two basic premises underlie the USGA Handicap System: • Each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round regardless of where the round is played. • The player will post every acceptable round for peer review. Therefore, the golf committee is implementing an ongoing program of handicap peer review. All members who carry handicaps at Hillcrest will be subject to adjustments if their handicaps do not accurately reflect their potential playing ability. A course handicap must reflect a player's best potential, not an average. The Golf Committee expects all rounds played will be posted, with the following procedures to help members ensure they are accurately posting their scores: • Scores must be posted using Equitable Stroke Control (see the Golf Shop for procedure). • If a round is incomplete: 13 holes or fewer, the player must post an 18-hole score. If 7 to 12 holes are played, the player must post a 9-hole score. In either case, scores for unplayed holes must be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes the player is entitled to receive on the unplayed holes. • Post all scores from the tees played. • Scores MUST be posted as a "Tournament Score" if the event is so designated. • Scores should NOT be posted when playing alone for leisure or practice, as these rounds are not subject to peer review. Members bringing guests for events should make every effort to provide an accurate handicap for that guest. If guest scores do not reflect the handicap provided, the committee reserves the right to adjust the handicap at the completion of play. Hillcrest Country Club has enjoyed terrific participation in our various events. Many things go into a successful event experience: event promotion, staff preparation, course condition, and most importantly, member participation. If members do not feel they are competing on equal footing with other participants, event participation will erode. The Golf Committee once again asks you to uphold the honor of this very unique and incredible game by posting your scores accurately. Thank you for your cooperation, Hillcrest Golf Committee

HANDICAP INFORMATION USGA HANDICAP PROCEDURE 3-5 The Hillcrest Handicap Committee has adopted the following procedure for competing from different sets of tees during selected Hillcrest events. During our Men's events, with the exception of The Eliminator, a player 70 years of age and older has the option of competing from the Gold Tees. The player MUST designate when signing up for the event his wish to play and be handicapped for the Gold Tee. The player will have the difference of 2 strokes deducted from his White Tee handicap. The Committee will have the final decision on events where 3-5 will be available for players. Formula: White Course Index 71.8 - Gold Course Index 70.0 = 1.8 (rounded up = 2)

HANDICAP ALLOCATION CHANGE The Golf Committee with the approval of your Hillcrest Board of Directors has made the following changes to the course handicap allocation: • Hole #1 is now course handicap 9 • Hole #9 is now course handicap 5 These changes have been made to the scorecard and are in effect for all play and events.

Dear Members, The much anticipated summer swim season is almost here! The staff is excited to see everyone again and get things rolling! We are so fortunate to have many of our coaches returning, including: Jordan Brozek, Crew and Braly Keller, Molly Zuercher, Joseph Berrick, Maddie Tolly, Olivia Coffey, Jared Murray and Erin Mapson. Other returning staff members include Jacob Olson, Allison McElroy, Sydney Long and Tommy Ernst. We are also excited to have the following individuals joining our staff this year: Alexa Easley, Braydon Williams, Nick McElroy, Jordan Coffey and Claire Griffin. Our swim team will kick off the season with a relay meet this year on Monday, June 11th. The regular swim meet schedule had a minor change recently - the July 2nd meet was cancelled and moved to July 9th. Please note that the first week of swim practice will be in two sessions: 11 and overs will swim from 10:30 AM – 11:15 AM, and 10 and unders will practice from 11:15 AM – 12:00 PM. We will wear the same team suits this year (navy blue with our logo). These customized suits can only be purchased through Sylvia's Swimwear (in Washington). You can order them on their website (www.goswim.com; team code is Hillsum18). If you order by May 9th, you have the option to ship to the club, free of charge. If you would like to have your suit by the start of the season, you must order by Wednesday, May 9th. There will be a sizing kit at the club if you are unsure of your size. If you miss this first order deadline, there will be a second deadline, however, you will not receive your suit until mid-June. Those who register for swim/dive team by Tuesday, May 15th will receive their team t-shirt during the first week of practice. New swimmers are highly encouraged to attend our Pre-Season Clinic, on Saturday, May 26th. Anyone ages 6 – 18 who is interested in learning more about diving will have the unique opportunity to receive elite level instruction from Nebraska Diving Club head coach, Kris Hoffman, and University of Nebraska head coach, Natasha Chikina, during the Pre-Season Diving Clinic. Check out their bios at nebraskadivingclub.com. It is so awesome to see the progress that some participants can make in just four sessions. The Capital City Swimming League Championship Meet will be Monday, July 16th, at Bob Devaney. The Championship Dive Meet will be at Woods Pool on Thursday, July 19th.

If you missed our scuba experience in 2016, mark your calendars, for “Try Scuba” on Friday morning, July 20th. The friendly staff from Aqua Trec will be at the pool to introduce members to scuba diving! The class is open to both adults and children (ages 10 and over), but class size is limited to 8. Cost is $40 per person. Sign up with Jeanette by email (bk04745@windstream.net) or at the pool. We are planning to bring the logroll and stand-up paddleboard back several times over the summer too. Also, let the pool staff know if you are interested in morning lap swim. Drowning is the leading cause of accidental deaths for children ages five and under, so please watch your children around the water this summer and enroll them in swim lessons. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends swimming lessons for all children ages four and older. Please remember to sign in every time you come to the pool (whether you bring guests or not). See you soon! Jeanette Keller
