Our athletes have achieved so much this year. On the following page please enjoy some comments from our Hillcrest Professionals and some highlights from their season.

Sincerely,

A MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER

Highlights of Hillcrest Country Club’s Summer Games Golf Mike Brown Director of Golf “It is great to see golf part of the games again. The last time golf was part of the Olympics was in 1904 in St. Louis, Missouri and they were known as the Games of the III Olympiad”.

Swimming Jeanette Keller Aquatics Director “The United States Swim Team really represented our country well. I had the honor of watching the US Olympic Swim Trials in Omaha, NE earlier this summer but the highlight for me was having Hillcrest’s very own Caroline Theil participate in the Trials… Wow, How Exciting watching a Former Waterbug!”

Tennis Sam Nelson Director of Tennis “It is hard to believe that Gold Medal Champion Jack Sock use to practice on our very own HCC Tennis Courts. After seeing Jack’s talents the first week of lessons at the age of 8 it was enough for me to let his mom know he was going to be special!”

18th Annual Dorothy Schwartzkopf

PINK RIBBON Golf Events Thanks for your support! It was a beautiful sunny day for the 18th Annual Hillcrest Country Club Dorothy Schwartzkopf Pink Ribbon Golf Scramble on Thursday, June 16. With a record number of teams again this year to support Susan G Komen Rally for the Cure, the event lived up to its history of being a fun-filled afternoon of golf, food, and winning. The overall winning team of Vena Alesio, Jana Turner, Jamie Waterford, and Katie Wilson posted an awesome score of 9 under, 63! The highlight of the dinner was our featured celebrity, Dorothy Schwartkopf, thanking all of the golfers and guests for participating in the event. Karen Daneu, Executive Director for Susan G Komen Nebraska, was able to join us and share a very inspirational message on the cutting-edge progress that our donations are possible through the dollars that are being contributed to research. In conjunction with the Men’s Rally for the Cure held on June 15, we raised over $8,500….75% of our event proceeds will stay in Nebraska and the other 25% will help to fund national research. Committee Co-Chairs Deb Griffith and Tammie Burns want to thank all of the participants, many who have golfed in this event annually, for supporting Rally for the Cure. We also want to thank Southeast Cancer Center for their $500 donation, the Hillcrest Ladies Golf Association, and our numerous hole sponsors, flight prize and raffle prize donors for making this a very successful event. We’d also like to recognize our committee members Sharon Votava and Laura Runge, Hillcrest Country Club Director of Golf Mike Brown and staff, Photographer Christina Sorenson, and event day volunteers Cheryl Ober, Nick Vuko Sr, Scott Barnhill, Rex Schultze, and Charlie Bohner.

The 2016 Championship Weekend at Hillcrest was like Deja vu. Congratulations to Chris Ober for defending his Men’s Club Championship title. Ober was in control over the weekend. In the final match against Mike Peterson, Ober birdied hole #17 to close the match out. Ober and Peterson showed why they made the finals. We had great matches throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all of our flight winners. Kelsey Marshall also defends as Ladies Club Champion with steady play and scores of 84 – 84 for a 168 total. It did take a thrilling 4 hole playoff to clinch the victory from runner up KC Bunting who fired rounds of 86 – 82 to force the playoff. Saranne Renaud won her first Net Masters Division title with scores of net 79-73. Congratulations to our Champions! Please see the full results from Championship Weekend in this addition of the Highlights. The Husband-Wife teams displayed great play and unbelievable scoring in July’s Husband & Wife Tournament. Randy and Pattie Daehling won the tournament with a -10 (62) net best ball score to edge out Mark and Karen Ogle who shot 65. Thanks to all the couples for a great tournament. See the full recap of scores in this addition of the Highlights. The Junior Program wrapped up in August with the skills competition and awards luncheon. Many of our juniors showed great improvement with their golf swings and short game skills. 100 plus juniors participated in many golf opportunities during the summer. Hunter Hall broke through this summer and claimed his first 18 hole Junior Club Championship. Congratulation to Issac Carpenter for winning the boy’s nine-hole divisions and Kaitlyn Dumler is our 9- hole girl’s division winner. Congratulations to The Parent-Youth Tournament winners Connor & Cory Vandewege. The Hillcrest Hornets Junior Golf Team lead by Coach Jerad Palmer and assistant Coach Charlie Borner made great strides this summer. The team competed in 6 tournaments winning at Mahoney GC and coming in second at Hi Mark GC. They finished the season by making it to the field of 16 team out of 69 for The Team Golf State Tournament at Fremont GC. The Hornets finished just outside the top 4 in the tournament. With many great golfing months remaining this season, please consider some of the fun membership events scheduled for September and October. Best in Golf,

Dear Members, It has been another great summer at the pool. Personal highlights include: bringing the Nebraska Diving Club Coaches “on board” to help at our pre-season diving clinic; seeing some of our members learn and perform synchronized swimming from a certified synchro coach; having one of our former Waterbugs, Caroline Theil, compete with the country’s best swimmers at the Olympic Trials in Omaha; watching several young members experience scuba diving – right here at Hillcrest; and of course, the Waterbugs bringing home their seventh straight league championship title! We were so fortunate to be able to compete at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Pool for our league championship swim meet this year (thanks in large part to Zach Tyson, Nick Buresh, and our Swim Committee). Our swimmers competed well, winning 42 of 78 events, and setting 6 of the 7 new meet records. A big thank you to our senior swimmers: Regan Monhollon and Jacob Bunz - you’ve been great role models for our team and we will miss you next year! Please mark July 17th on your calendars for 2017 – next year’s championship meet date! If you missed the banquet, please pick up your awards in the pool office.

The 9-10 year old girls went 1-2-3 at their League City Championship Dive Meet at Woods Pool, to cap a successful season for the Dive Team. (Unfortunately team scores were not available.) Thank you to our awesome swim and dive team parents for all of your dedication and support of our program! There is a group of morning lap swimmers, that swim on weekday mornings, so if you are interested, please join us! (Call 489-1840, or email bk04745@windstream.net, if interested.) Please check Lost and Found in Teencrest for anything you may have left at the pool this summer! Let’s hope for some good weather so that we can all enjoy the pool for a few more weeks!

See you at the pool!

What a fantastic summer!

The Following are the Highlights of the Hillcrest tennis season 2016: May

We had good numbers for our pre-session camps, that got us ready and helped us to place certain players accurately into there respective level groups.

June

The rain kept conflicting, but we figured out ways to still have fun and learn, with practices later in the day, indoor tennis or moving to later in the week. Our tennis team was just over 115 junior players strong participating in private lessons, group lessons and team play. The number of new members participating in our tennis program was at an all time high.

July

Our numbers and participation was just as good as June, maybe even better with the weather cooperating a little more. Team Tennis was a joy this year , having a great mix of kids and a very large upcoming senior class (I will miss this class!!) I am proud of how hard they worked and how they all competed to make each other better! Varsity team tennis finished 4-2 respectively.

Late July/August

Day camps and High school prep camps occupy this two week stretch. Players and coaches seem to enjoy the change of scheduling which allows certain players to play everyday and really figure out there tennis games, but also a longer period of time playing everyday for those not already doing so.

1st annual Hillcrest Adult Tournament Had over 40 tennis players ranging in levels as well some just playing doubles to make out just enough right with the rain delays we had both days. Please consider this non USTA sanctioned tournament next year. July 28-29, 2017.

Hillcrest Junior Tournament This seems to be a good climax following the last week of morning camps and High school prep camps, since moving the date a week later this year due to other Nebraska wide tournaments. We had the weather threaten us yet again, but subsided just in time for once, to have a great tournament weekend!
