Hello Africa, Good day Nigeria. Welcome to the first of our "ember" edition. A season of good and not so good. Just when many thought that the Hair industry was on a recovery mode in the month of July 2019, the month of August 2019 witnessed the closure of our borders, Nigeria's borders. That meant restricted movement of goods, services and humans. Aside from the unsolicited opinion, tantrums and complaints, one thing remain certain. This singular act has revealed the potential, power, and the hidden strength of the once "sleeping giant". Perhaps, more than any other single decision, the closure of Nigeria's borders will affect the prices of most imported products, inflation rates and paralysis of some businesses For the purpose of the flow of commerce, we argue on the side or in favour of opening the borders; naturally with effective monitoring. If the borders are remain closed till Christmas, Nigeria's earning for this year's end of year sales is bound to drop. Observation - Most African countries that have experienced Military rule tend to apply military approach to solutions that affect their citizens negatively, even in democratic government. “The Punch newspaper of October 15, 2019 reported: Many travellers were struck by the reality of the situation on August 22, 2019 when they found themselves stranded, following the sudden closure of the busy Seme and Idiroko borders, which separated Nigeria and neighbouring Republic of Benin. Initially the Nigeria Customs Service had denied the Federal Government’s involvement in the closure of the borders, but it owned up to the truth later and described the development as a joint security exercise ordered by the government and tagged, ‘Operation Ex-Swift Response’. It was not until President Muhammadu Buhari explained to his Beninnoise counterpart, Mr Patrice Talon, that Nigeria shut the border to prevent smugglers from bringing rice into the country that the narrative changed and every Nigerian knew what was going on"

Industry News The Hair Industry was greeted with the news of the glorious exit of Madam Universal's Mother, who also is the mother of Defendis, Koya Beauty Essence, Deosen Beauty Limited and Jamiu Int’l, Deaconess Mrs. Yemisi Abigail Oseni (nee Ukannah) (Iya Ijo) of Igarra, Akoko-Edo, Edo State. She was 86 years old. After a painstaking plan and co-ordination, the burial ceremony which took place in 3 States - Edo State, Ogun and Lagos State. The ceremonies were well attended , by a mixture of people from all works of life. The events came to a ďŹ nal conclusion on September 28, 2019 with much fanfare.

TIPS FOR DOING PROM MAKEUP www.makeupbysussan.com

Whether you are planning to do your own makeup or head to your favorite salon, remember these prom makeup tips: Ÿ Make sure to clean your skin properly before

applying makeup. Use a facial cleanser to remove dirt, dead skin, blackheads, and oils.

Ÿ You can guarantee that your eyes will stand out by

following these tips. First, apply an eye shadow primer or a base. Next, apply a light shadow that suits your skin on your eyelid up till your brow. After this, blend well a darker shade on your lids again up to your crease. Lastly, lightly dab a shimmer shadow. Be careful not to apply too much or there’s a huge chance it will spread on your face.

Ÿ Before applying any makeup, you can apply a base

to your skin such as a moisturizer with an SPF. In case you are worried that it is too sticky keep in mind that foundations require a smooth base for it to blend well. Ÿ Ÿ After this, you can apply foundation. You can

choose between applying just a thin layer or thick in case you need to cover blemishes. If you feel your foundation is too heavy you can mix it with a small amount of moisturizer to lighten it up. Ÿ Do you want your makeup to last long? The secret

to this is makeup primers! Applying a small amount of mattifying primer not only improves your features but also lessens the need for touchups as well.

Ÿ To give your skin a flushed look, apply powder

blush. Remember when putting blush powder, start by smiling then apply first on the apples of your cheeks. Next, apply to go to the direction of your ears than to your jawline. Ÿ For your eyebrows, you can enhance it by applying

translucent powder then follow with an eyebrow pencil on the upper area. This will uplift your face Ÿ And finally, to make your lip color last longer, after applying your chosen lip shade place a tissue on your mouth. Next, sprinkle a little powder on your lip to achieve that full rich color that highlights your overall look.

ENCOURAGING THE ENCOURAGER I

remember brother J today. Everyone knew him in the church we attended many years ago. He was an encourager. If he knew of someone with a need, he wouldn't rest until he met it or until he got someone who could. He wasn't a pastor, but most people thought he was. He visited. He counseled. He prayed for people. No one could miss church two weeks in a row without having brother J visit him. He was one smiling, energetic brother who was always smiling and available. He didn't seem to have a care in the world. As busy as he always was in helping people, I never heard him complain about anyone. I had seen him respond to the most abrasive insults with good natured jokes and sweet laughter. I returned from a trip and noticed that brother J wasn't in church. I asked some of his 'friends' why, and they couldn't give me a definite answer. One said maybe he had travelled to see his family. Another said maybe he was busy doing something important. All I got was maybes, and more maybes from his ‘besties.' I asked some guys who had been helped by brother J, and they couldn't tell me anything useful. Even those in leadership couldn't tell me anything important. During the week, I decided to look for brother J. It took me two days to find his house. I was terribly shocked. This gracious brother was living in the most inhospitable condition. A boy showed me his room, the room he used to live in. Brother J had died four months earlier. None of his brethren was aware. Not even those he helped. This gracious brother had fallen on hard times in the past eighteen months and had lost so much. This made him to move to this terrible neighborhood of

gangs, living in unsanitary conditions. He had been asthmatic, but his trials and living conditions seemed to aggravate his ill health. Brother J was sick, and was in his room for a week. He died in that room. The boy that took me to his room told me brother J sent him to one of the brothers in his church group at the height of his sicknes. That one said he would tell the others. My investigation revealed that he told a couple of people and they all agreed to visit him sometime. They never did.

giving up on life... when you are neck deep in financial or marital challenges, who leave everything to spend hours with you on the phone, pray with you, visit you and nurse your battered confidence back to health... Your mother, father, brother or pastor may be the strongest person you have ever known. What they have shielded you from hit them hard, and left some marks on them. You don't know about these because they chose not to tell you.

His neighbors took his body to the morgue and did what they could to find his extended family members.

Sometimes the little errors they commit are due to the pressures on them. You sometimes judge them too harshly because you haven't been where they have been.

Brother J had been quietly forgotten by the people he loved.

I call on you today to encourage your encouragers.

I cried.

Call them and thank them. Tell them how much you appreciate them. Tell them you have not taken them for granted, and then pray for them.

Brethren, don't ever think that the people around you who seem to be very strong don't need encouragement. The brethren who neglected brother J were probably good people who took his strength for granted. You know that smooth presumption that makes you think, "I know it's too late and daddy should be home by now, but I am sure he can take care of himself. Let's go to sleep." They believed brother J was usually fine, and would be fine this time, too. Encouragers need encouragement. To encourage you, they sometimes have to ignore their own troubles, which may be much bigger than yours. You may think they are very rich, but they may have issues in their lives that money cannot handle. You may think they are always happy, but they are only smiling for you. They may be trying to lift you up while they are down. Those who are strong for others sometimes need someone to be strong for them. The people you go to when you feel like

Some of us are alive today because of those who left their challenges to attend to our troubles. Do not abandon your brother J. He is probably battling a giant right now that a word from you can help him defeat. Letting him know you care for him may be all he or she needs to hear. Don't be offended if he seems to have withdrawn from you. He is probably hiding his challenges from you, not wanting to burden you with his

troubles. E N C O U R A G E Y O U R ENCOURAGER!

THE SICK TEACHER Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. John 5: 5 The sick man that was at the pool called Bethesda has lessons for us today. That a man is sick does not mean he should give up on life. Many who do not know this die by worrying about their sicknesses. They die before the sicknesses even attempt to kill them. For 38 whole years this guy held on and kept making attempts to be healed. He did not lose his mind. He was not depressed. He did not attempt suicide. He kept hoping that a man would one day help him into the pool. He even had the faith that if a man helped him into that pool, he would be healed. The ‘healing pool’ that man hoped to contact showed up in the form of a man. The help you seek is wrapped up in men. Don’t say you do not need men. When God shows up to answer your prayers, He most times comes through men. This is why there is no physical description of Jesus in the Bible. He can show up looking like anyone. Angels also show up as ordinary men. A wonderful brother was born with a hole in his heart. Because his parents were not educated, they often complained that he was a weak person. He did all he could to be strong and later the hospital revealed his problem. He had a surgery and even though doctors told him he might not live for too long, he made it to a very old age. This was because he refused to accept that he would die early. When next you meet a sick person, remind him that a man who was sick for 38 years (really sick he could not stand up) later got his healing. When the Lord shows up, all sicknesses bow. This is one of the lessons from the sick teacher at Bethesda. Prayer Guide 1. Thank the Lord for His healing power. 2. Pray that He will help you not to miss help when it comes. 3. Ask Him to send people of influence into your life. 4. Pray for the sick. 5. Give thanks. Inspiring Quote As our Lord asked the sick man whether he wished to be healed, so, without our consent, He will not save us; and sinners are without excuse for not consenting to the will of the Lord and their own salvation. - Cardinal Bonaventura The Bible from cover to cover: Micah 3 & Matthew 8.
