Hello Africa! Good-day Nigeria. This is our special post-Easter edition.. Generally, it is a known tradition to expect a boom in sales or a bumper harvest in the month of February - courtesy of Valentine's Day celebration. Everyone in the hair industry usually look forward to Valentine season's sales. It is the boost that uplifts the Hair industry after the null or sluggish sales period which follows Christmas & New year heavy sales. Entered 2019 Nigeria's general election. Unlike other festive periods that boost hair sales, general elections lead to or begets poor sales. Consumers often hold back on spending, and they put the art-of-looking good on hold. The most recent general elections in Nigeria caused sales in the Hair industry to drop or fall by about 55%. The economic value of Valentine season in 2019 was lost or disappeared. Industry watchers were forced to hinge their hopes on 2019 Easter to provide succour; big or small, local or international dealers, including the Chinese distributors and Manufacturers - all are still languishing in the pool of poor-sales. There is a consolation. Beauty business is good business It never remains in dire situation for too long. After the swearing-in of our re-elected President, and all other Political OfďŹ ce Holders, we expect the "dead bones" to rise again. We expect boom for the Beauty Economy, and the Hair Industry shall be much better for it.

Industry News Not too long after the world and the hair industry in particular ushered in the new year 2019, precisely - Fire gutted a factory owned by Godrej, makers of Darling Hair products located at Oba Akran Rd in Ikeja. The damage was severe and extensive. Initial report had it that, the fire started at the driver's unit in the factory, where women's hair extensions and cosmetics are manufactured. Commendation was given to the Ikeja Fire service unit and many others who came to the aid of the factory by way of putting out the fire. But for the support rendered the damage would have been far more catastrophic.

PREMARITAL SEX AND ITS PREVALENCE IN THE AFRICAN SOCIETY

H

uman culture in the 21st century has been transformed by a revolution in sexual values. Promiscuity is regarded by many as a virtue to pursue. Children who do not engage in premarital sex are perceived by their peers as stupid, boring and unsophisticated, with that the result is that children are trying sex at earlier ages than ever before. Premarital sex is sexual intercourse engaged in by a person or persons who are not yet married. It is generally used in reference to young people who are presumed to be of marriageable age, or will one day be married, but who are engaging in sexual practices prior to their being sanctioned within a marriage. Adolescence is a stage which human beings face once throughout a lifetime. This stage serves as a threshold for biological, physical, psychological and social developments which are accompanied by either positive or negative behaviours depending on the environment that the child is brought-up

In virtually all African society ,the sacredness of the female being a virgin on her wedding night was a thing of pride and joy. The giddiness of giving the most beautiful female out for marriage was eclipsed by the confirmation by the groom's family that the daughter that just joined the family stained the bed sheets on her first night of marriage. The intactness of the bride not made her family trust worthy and respected but it also guaranteed that any female from that family will command a high bride price and will also have a good chance of getting married to a reputable family in future. It was as if the family of the bride were specialist is producing qualitative brides who have never been stained. This practice of the upholding of the virtues of not having premarital sex has however gradually been eroded in the African setting as each decade surpasses another decade and the juggernaut called the Earth continues to achieve globalization status. The emphasis on pre marital sex has diminished in a world where transgender, Lesbianism, gayness and bi sexualism have come to be accepted as a norm. What is one female who has had multiple sexual partners got to hold up against a two male priest getting married in the church by an ordained female priest? The honest truth or put more succinctly reality is that the emphasis on premarital sex as a taboo in the African environment has been

greatly diminished in recent years due to the effect of globalization, neo colonization and the cultivation theory. Just like the Romans changed the various innovations of the Greeks when they became the world super power , the foreign ways of life has permeated the African society to such an extent that any individual that tries to uphold the typical African tradition is seen backward, illiterate, uneducated and to an extreme downright stupid.

We now live in a society where it is "local" to speak the traditional African language but hip to learn foreign languages. Having sex before marriage is seen as an experience that must be explored through multiple avenues before settling on one person who will be the life partner. The mentality has also changed drastically that we are left to wonder where we went wrong. Young men do not look forward to marrying virgins as wives anymore as they see the process of trying to inculcate in the virgin the various practices in the art of sex as cumbersome and time wasting. They would prefer someone who is not a virgin but knows the intricacies of love making. The women do not want to be virgins on their wedding night because they have to know and they have to have explored the various sex styles available before marriage. They see it as living their life to the fullest before the they enter the prison called marriage. This of course is a far cry from the old days where there was a sense of pride in a man meeting his woman as a virgin and a woman seeing herself stain the bed sheet on her first night of sexual action. The African society has been cultivated to an extent that imitation of the American and European way of life is the only logical and acceptable thing. This can be seen in African movie making where sex is now being shown and promoted. In Nollywood in the 70s,80s,90s and the early part of the 21st century, there were virtually no sex scenes in movies but the cultivation effect has taken place in the African media where there is now an imitation of the American and European ways of movie making where sex scenes are shot. African movie never showed even kissing, now they show nudity and it is the norm. The media focuses more and more upon the sensual. African youth are exposed to sex and related matters through the medium of newspapers, television, pornographic videos, Internet, radio and various magazines. Explicit sex videos and DVDs are the most popular sellers on the market. They also receive mixed messages from the media. In any given week, they are

likely to hear contradictory messages such as 'No sex until you're married', 'No sex until you are older', 'No sex unless you're protected' or 'No sex unless you're in love'. These messages are very much confusing. All good things have their bad side and the internet is not exempted from this. Prior to the data revolution in Nigeria for example, the consumption of pornography was well below 5% as people didn't have access to the internet as it was expensive. Fast forward to the present were a thousand naira can get at least a gigabyte of data, the consumption of pornography has skyrocketed to 250% to such an extent that just it is just one google search away. The consumption of pornography has taken away the sacredness of sex as everyone now has seen it and want to try it. Fashion in clothing is also another contributing to the pervasive emphasis on sex amongst the youths. These days it is difficult to find clothes for teenage girls that are not revealing or tightfitting. This makes girls more willing to flaunt their bodies and makes them vulnerable to sexual predators that are willing to buy them expensive clothes in exchange for sexual favours. There is a high correlation between alcohol and sexual experiences. A number of African youngsters, especially those coming from rural areas, tend to become involved in drugs and alcohol abuse immediately after they enter tertiary education institutions. It is very difficult for these youth to control their sexual drives when they are under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The bottom line is that African tradition which condemns the need of premarital sex was never going to win against the juggernaut of globalization and foreign influence. This is a war that will see the tradition of not having sex smothered out or else it can adapt. African parents now have to realise that emphasis on premarital sex as being bad will not work but rather there should be an adaptation process where African children are enlightened about premarital sex and what can be done if it ever want to occur so as to avoid pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases. The main problem is that sex is not spoken about publicly in the traditional African society which is why HIV/AIDS gained such traction in the first place. We must not shy away from the discussion of sex or premarital sex in Africa, the only way to deal with this menace is to talk about it with African children.

LET ME TEACH YOU HOW TO SHOW LOVE TO YOUR GUY. Dear ladies, Let me teach you how to show love to your guy. Some of you ladies do not know how to show love to the guy you are dating. some ladies think that the only way to show a guy love is by having sex with him; that is why some ladies do not have anything to offer a guy except sex. When guys sometimes buy gift for their girlfriends then they will say’’ "I will pay you back this night by giving you a hot sex." . Its very funny. Sex is not a prove of love. Don't use sex to prove that you love a guy. As a lady, you can prove that you love a guy in the following ways: . BUY GIFTS FOR HIM: You can give him gifts of T-shirts, shoes, undies, singlets or even a phone if you have the money. Take him out for lunch and pay his bills at least once in 2 months. It is not bad at all. Send him some love text messages occasionally. Give him phone calls daily at least once daily, ask him how he is doing and tell him that you love him. Occasionally you can cook a delicious meal for him, maybe once in a week or once in two weeks, but not everyday like a housewife. You can also help him financially when he is broke. Take him out for shopping at least once in a year, you will not die.

Celebrate his Birthday with him or for him before announcing yours to him

Pray for him Advise him Help him to build a bright future. I know some ladies will crucify me because of this post, but this is the ideal thing to do for your guy, not sex, sex sex. . Guys, Did I make sense?

Learn to forgive him when he strays

HOW TO BOND WITH YOUR NEW BORN BABY Parent-child Bond Is A Phenomenon That Has Been In Existence For Ages. It’s Irreplaceable. It Starts When You See The First Sonogram Picture Of Your Child At Times. Other Times, It Happens When You Hold Your Baby For The Very First Time. There Are However, A Few Instances Where It Takes A While To Have This Special Bond With Your Infant, And This Is Not Much Of A Problem. In Fact, Statistics Have It That At Least 20% Of New Parents Don’t Form This Bond Immediately. Nevertheless, This Bond Can Be Created In Different Ways.we’ll Get To Know These Ways As We Continue With This Article. Let’s Examine Some Of These Ways. 1. THE POWER OF TOUCH Skin contact is the best way to develop a bond with your baby. You are advised to take your baby in your arms whenever you can or hold your baby’s hands when you play with him/her. Keeping them close to your chest by hugging regularly. The warmth from such skin-skin contact helps create a bond. 2. GET TO KNOW YOUR BABY How can you get to know your baby? The only way to do this is to give your baby as much attention as you can. Make sure you always always keep an eye on them pay close attention to their facial expressions. Spend as much time as you can with him/her. This way, you will know your child’s every move and pick up cues to when he/she is hungry, sleepy or uncomfortable. 3. WORDS There is something all parents must do to bond with their baby and that is Talk! Sound has an extremely strong effect. Babies can even develop a bond with their parents before they are given birth to just by hearing the voices of their parents. So, talk to your baby, even if what you’re saying does not make sense. Read them a book even if they won’t understand the language, your voice is enough to comfort them. 4. SING TO YOUR BABY Sing some nursery rhymes or even your favourite song if you wish. Babies love it when you sing for them… even if you are the worst of singers. So entertain your babies with your voice no matter how bad it is. 5. BUILD A SPECIAL ROUTINE Create a special, unique way of comforting them. It could be patting him/her rhythmically on the back or rocking their cradle in a certain way. They will recognize this routine and know it’s you. Make up words for eating or sleeping, as your baby will start recognizing these words and understand what you’re saying. 6. BODY MASSAGE Babies love massages and this is a great way to develop a bond with them. Studies has shown that massaging your baby goes a long way in bonding with them and reduces premature stress. 7. KEEP THEM CLOSE Close proximity of a parent makes the baby feel secure. Ensure you stay close to them and keep their cradle next to your bed. If he/she is playing on a mat, make sure you’re there next to her.

Should these tips not help and you still don’t have that emotional attachment with your baby, contact your gynecologist and tell him/her how you feel. They will be able to check if it’s a psychological problem or a medical issue and will direct you to the help you need.

Recently, a group of highly dedicated Nigerians came together, in conjunction with other colleagues, from several West African countries, to form a body called COWAB, known as the Confederation of West African Beautician. A heculian task, getting this association to its present level was not an easy task. To the glory of God, the body held one of its meetings recently in Lagos, which included representatives from Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Republic of Benin, Togo, to name a few. This is an Association, headed by Chief Mrs. Limeade is one to watch.

West Africa The Least Trade Integrated Region In The World — Report The Economic Community of West Africa States, ECOWAS, is the least integrated region in the world in terms of cross border trade, a report by the Borderless Alliance group has said.

“In international trade, there are no restrictions but standards must be met, the same best practices on transit that are applicable in East Africa must be applicable in West Africa.

According to the report, the non- application of ECOWAS directives relating to free movement of goods and people, ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme, ETLS, and the Common External Tariff, CET, are some of the factors responsible for the low level of trade integration in the region.

“Burkina and Togo are inter-connected, Burkina- Cote Ivoire is also inter- connected and this has reduced the cost of trade between these countries.”

Other factors militating against trade in the region include the high cost of transport & logistics, Long delays at ports and borders, harassment along transit corridors, mainly from uniformed services and corruption. Speaking at a one day workshop on dissemination and launch of the ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme handbook, Mr Justin Bayili, Executive Secretary, Borderless Alliance said that while Europe recorded 71 per cent in intra-regional trade, Asia recorded 53 per cent, South America 48 per cent against 12 per cent recorded by the ECOWAS region. Bayili disclosed that East Africa is more integrated than its West African counterpart citing Customs interconnectivity for the success so far recorded in East Africa. Trade Fair traders protest over FG’s move to sell complex He said, “We want to make West Africa a borderless border, East Africa is more integrated than West Africa.

He explained that lack of professionalism amongst operators in the ECOWAS trade corridor has also been identified as a problem. Bayili also noted that some of the issues affecting the ETLS are national issues adding that they must be addressed by national administrations. Earlier in his opening remark, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, Mr Hassan Bello, said that barriers to trade increase the cost of trade and Africa has the highest cost of transporting goods between origin and destination across all modes of transportation. ECOWAS calls for barrier elimination He stated: “We must work assiduously to reduce these unnecessary costs by eliminating all the barriers to trade and make our products more competitive in the international market. “Removing obstacles to intra-regional integration in the ECOWAS sub-region would be particularly beneficial to the small scale traders that conduct cross border commerce within the sub-region. “The potential benefits include food security, job creation, poverty reduction, increased tax revenues for authorities and long term development outcomes.”

HOW TO MAKE MONEY RUNNING A FOOTBALL VIEWING CENTER IN NIGERIA (SIMPLE GUIDE)

A

lot of people wonder, why some football viewing centers are always filled with people, is it that they cannot afford to buy a cable TV and watch in the comfort of their homes? The answer is that over 60% can watch those live matches live inside their living room but prefer to watch it at a viewing center because it is much more fun and enjoyable.

Infact when it comes to watching live football match, some Nigerians are ready to spend their last cash. During the weekends, there are always a lot of matches, there are also midweek matches, although not every week. The cost of viewing a match in most places in Nigeria is low, most times its N100. Imagine if you start this business and your viewing centre is sufficiently spacious enough to accommodate 100 people, you will stand to make roughly N10, 000 per match. In situations where there are matches at various time, say; Arsenal vs. Chelsea 1 pm, Man united vs. Liverpool 4 pm, Barcelona vs. Real Madrid 9 pm. That will mean a sum of N10, 000 multiply by 3 = N 30,000 on a single day. Isn’t that a good small scale business?

STARTING A FOOTBALL VIEWING CENTER How do you go about Starting a football viewing center in Nigeria? It is simple, we have compiled some practical steps and tips to follow. Here are they 1. FIND A SUITABLE LOCATION The talk about getting a good location is basically no news when starting a business. Because it’s a must for most business if not all. Get a decent and well-spaced area for your viewing centre .It could be a shop or a eld. If it’s an open space like a football eld, you may have to get a carpenter to make a shed by making use of zinc and ensure that the structure is wide enough to contain a good number of people (say 100 to 500 sitting capacity). Note: Capacity is a key success factor in the football viewing center business. The more people you viewing center can accommodate the more money you will make

2. CONSTRUCT OR GO FOR CONFORTABLE CHAIRS If you have a low start-up capital, what you need to do is to get wooden seats. This will minimize start-up cost and will be able to accommodate a signicantly large number of individuals. But if you have enough capital, you can opt for single plastic chairs as they are more comfortable..

3. MAKE PROVISION FOR PROPER VENTILATION You must ensure that your viewing center is properly ventilated; so as to make your customers feel comfortable. If they don’t feel comfortable watching football matches in your viewing center, then there’s a high chance they will patronize your competitors. I guess you don’t want that.

You should provide fans (standing or ceiling) to enable a cooler atmosphere. 4. PURCHASE A GOOD TELEVISION SETS I would recommend two or three – big – at screen – coloured televisions with good graphics (HD). A new television with good sound and graphics makes the match more enjoyable. But if you’re working on a tighter budget, you can actually get fairly used televisions with the above qualities. Multiple TVs enable you to give viewers the opportunity to watch any match of their choice when there are different matches going on at the same time. 5. PURCHASE DSTV DECODERS DSTV decoder is the best to purchase as they have right to cover most popular matches all over the world. 6. GET APPROPRIATE SUBSCRIPTION PLAN(S) DSTV has the right to cover directly the majority of football competitions such as: 1. UEFA champions league 2. Spanish La Liga 3. English Premiership 4. Italian Seria A 5. French Ligue 1 and so on. To be able to watch all these competitions, you need to subscribe to the premium DSTV plan.

7. PURCHASE A STANDBY GENERATOR Because of the epileptic power supply in Nigeria, you must have a standby generator in other to smoothly run this business. Football matches are always interesting that viewers are glued to their TV sets during the 90 minutes of the match. As a result, viewers would always be attracted to a viewing center that guarantees them uninterrupted power supply especially within the 90 minutes of the match. This can only be achieved by having a standby generator. 8. UPS This is used to keep the decoder running in case of power outage. That way, you can easily switch to generator or

public power without having to reboot the decoder all over again. 9. GET A WRITING BOARD Writing boards publicize your viewing center and this will enable you to notify customers of the date and time of coming matches. 10. PRINT TICKETS Get a printed ticket to identifying paying customers. The ticket is a small piece of receipt to certify that a certain customer has paid for the service to be rendered.

HOW TO EARN EXTRA INCOME FROM YOUR FOOTBALL VIEWING CENTER

1. SALE OF FOOD AND DRINKS Another way to earn from this business is to sell food, snacks, drinks, etc. As people watch their favourite team play, they love to wash it down with snacks and cold drink. Most individuals usually come with a friend, girlfriend or relative. Not selling most of these is like hindering the full potential of your business.

2. BETTING One of the reason why most people watch football is to know whether the game they played entered or not, that’s is, whether they won or lose. You can set up an account with betting companies like Bet9ja, Bet360, NairaBet etc. so that people can come and buck for games.

3. INCORPORATE GAMES CENTER Matches do not go on every day. They go on at regular during Local Leagues, World cup, Nations Cups and European Football Leagues. Whenever there’s no match, the center can be converted to a gaming center where game fanatics can come and compete with each other, most especially PES. This will earn you additional revenue. 4. SALE OF RECHARGE CARDS

CONCLUSION Football viewing center is a very lucrative business that can fetch you lots of money if properly managed. This is a business you can run either full-time or on a part-time basis. It doesn’t require much capital to begin and it’s very easy to run. One of the important thing you must do is make sure you treat all your customers nicely to keep them coming.

oung people should not always be glued to their mobile phones, the 82-year-old Pope Francis said on Saturday as he met a group of Italian teenagers.

“Free yourselves from mobile phone addiction, please, “ Francis said during a Vatican audience with pupils from Visconti, a renowned state high school in central Rome. “You’ve certainly heard about the tragedy of addictions, but the one with mobile phones is very subtle, very subtle,’’ the pontiff said, according to an official transcript.

Free yourselves from mobile phone addiction, Pope Francis urges teens

“Mobile phones are a great help, a great progress. They should be used, it’s good that everybody knows how to use them. But when you become a slave to your mobile phone, you lose your freedom,’’ he said. Francis urged his audience to “not be afraid of silence, of being on your own, not always, no, because that’s not good for you but take some time to be on your own.’’ Back in 2017, the pope complained about the use of mobile phones during Mass, saying it made him “very sad’’ to see people holding them up during religious services, including “many priests and bishops.’’ “Please! Mass is not a show!’’ he said at the time, recalling that the priest who celebrates Catholic Mass “says ‘Lift up your hearts,’ and does not say ‘Lift up your mobiles to take a picture.’’
