e're nursing a slight obsession with Cornwall this month. Anywhere coastal in fact, but particularly Cornwall, after our recent visit. British beaches seem to have improved significantly since I was a child, though I'm aware that this sounds unrealistic. It used to always be raining and the ice cream shop was never open, but these days there's lots of fresh seafood, surfing lessons, white sand and natural beauty, whether in Cornwall or Kent or Scilly. The Scilly Isles are another obsession, for their sheer remoteness and stunning landscapes, as well as for their amazing flora and fauna. And while we're looking beyond London, there's also Ascot this month, so we're looking at the annual style guides for inspiration. The magazine also has the usual mix of local events, shops and property – we hope you enjoy it.

iffords Circus celebrates the 250th anniversary of circus with a UK premiere tour of their new show, My Beautiful Circus. The show will open on Friday 4 May at Fennels Farm, Stroud and comes to Chiswick House & Gardens on 28 June. In 1768 near Westminster Bridge, equestrian rider Philip Astley drew out a 42-foot circle and filled it with jugglers, acrobats, clowns, strong men and bareback horse riders. This spectacle was the world’s very first circus. My Beautiful Circus will feature some of the classical acts such as: death-defying acrobatics, enchanting domestic animals and fan-favourite of Giffords Circus comedic genius, Tweedy the clown. Circus-goers can enjoy dining at Giffords exclusive rustic restaurant, Circus Sauce that tours with them. Circus Sauce serves a set three -course menu that changes weekly, using seasonal produce from the surrounding area.

“Death-defying acrobatics, enchanting animals and Tweedy the clown” Founder, and producer Nell Gifford has said: “We are so thrilled to be taking part of the celebration of the 250th year of circus. Show director Cal McCrystal and I have been asking ourselves: What makes the circus so magnetic? What is conjured up by the word circus? Why do we want to run away with the circus? What would the most beautiful circus look like? I hope that next year’s show will answer all those questions and more.” giffordscircus.com A B S O L U T E LY. L O N D O N

t's a beautiful set, all tassled lampshades and soft furnishings, a detailed and naturalistic recreation of a Soho dive in the 1940s. This is La Vie en Rose, where a crowd of drinkers spanning struggling writers, American soldiers, elderly ladies, young socialites and damaged souls of varying ages and states of mind gather nightly to 'escape reality'. Outside the club, the war may be over but memories of the 'horror camps' are raw and there's a sense of unsettlement about an upcoming election, illustrated by a

Labour Party office taking residence opposite the club as a permanent onstage presence. Last performed at the National in 1995, with Judi Dench, the play is hugely entertaining as a patchwork of small stories and scenes, without having much by way of actual unified plot. The cast is vast – about 30 people on stage at once for much of the duration – and their complex, alcohol-fuelled relationships with each other drive the show bringing lots of comedy as well as a serious look at the realities of Soho's sleazy nightlife. A lone prostitute Memorable performances come

from Charles Edwards as Hugh Marriner, a failing and increasingly desperate writer, bumblingly English and comically awkward as well as Eileen Walsh, who gets the most laughs as shouty religious loon Madge, appearing at intervals to insist loudly that Jesus's actual birth happened on Boxing Day. Patricia England is a delightfully confused woman who gets the wrong end of the stick about Siegfried Sassoon early on and keeps going with it, while Lizzie Clachan's dark, rose-tinted set is visually rich and interesting right up until the building collapses, signifying the end of an era. Eveybody likes to watch other people behaving badly, and this is what we're doing, with an ultimate sense of doom. Characters are grotesque, lecherous, debauched and simply drunk, while the stylish set and elegant period costumes make it a visually rich performance. At just over three hours with two breaks, it's certainly lengthy – but the pace is entertaining and it's never dull. Ultimately, it's a winning show.

A magical outdoor tale for all the family

Life is suddenly turned upside down and everything becomes curiouser and curiouser… This summer, join Alice on her amazing journey through Wonderland and experience an adventure like no other. Lewis Carroll’s classic story is cleverly lifted from the page and beautifully brought to life in Glenn Elston’s highly acclaimed production. Life is suddenly turned upside down for Alice, so join her as she tumbles down the rabbit hole and lands in the magical world of “Wonderland”. It’s a roller-coaster of a story as she bravely bounces from one unexpected and amazing situation to the next. There’s a wildly curious assortment of characters. Bump into the skittish, constantly late White Rabbit, sing along with the Dodo and other birds in the Caucaus race and meet the pepper obsessed Duchess and her extremely crazy cook. The Cheshire Cat will leave you with a grin and you can’t fail to miss Humpty Dumpty on his way to meet Tweedledum and Tweedledee as they tell the tale of the Walrus and the Carpenter. What might seem slightly silly then becomes downright absurd as the Mad Hatter arrives with the March Hare and the Dormouse to have a grand old time with Alice at the tea party. As a magnificent finale, join the Queen of Hearts and her parade of cards. This is where everyone, both young and a perhaps a little bit older, can be part of the fun. Presented in a bright performance style, with colourful costumes, interactive games and catchy songs this is a perfect way to go on a wonderful Wonderland adventure with the entire family.

TRAVEL • ROMANCE

Perfect MATCH We caught up with Tally Dating founder Miranda Page to get the low down on the latest matchmaking app hitting our screens

Q: When did Tally Dating launch? A: Tally launched to the App Store in October last year, and we plan to launch on Android later this year, so watch this space.

Q: Are there any negatives of Tally? A: Of course, I would be naive to think otherwise. Given we have recently launched, it is fair to say there are limited users in some areas of the UK. However, this will grow with time due to word of mouth, social media and raising awareness.

Q: What makes Tally different? A: Tally has no fake or cat-fishing profiles, this is the Tally Promise. Tally also prides itself in not uploading 101 fake users to create an ‘instant’ user base and has, from day one, been growing the user base organically. Q: Is it good value for money? A: Unlike similar dating apps, such as Match, Elite Singles and eHarmony, there is no monthly subscription. The one-off membership fee is what really sets Tally Dating apart from the others. Tally doesn’t see why users should be tied into a contract. Whether you use the app for one month or one year, it shouldn’t make a difference or cost you the earth. To celebrate the launch we are currently offering an introductory price too. Q: Who is Tally designed for? A: Tally is aimed at those who are decent, honest and genuinely looking to date. Tally currently has users of all age groups, sexual orientations and from all professions. Q: Where does Tally sit amongst other dating apps on the market? A: Tally Dating bridges the gap between the likes of Tinder or Bumble and Match or eHarmony. Tally is the best of both ends of the dating app spectrum, with the emphasis on serious dating mixed with the ‘swipe’ and ‘mutual like’ elements to initiate and allow message communication.

Tally is about connecting people long-term Q: Who wouldn’t benefit from Tally? A: The jokers, the time-wasters and the fraudsters. Tally does not see dating as a game, and if ‘maximum return for minimal effort’ is your thing, then Tally is definitely not for you. Equally Tally does not believe in lengthy bizarre compatibility tests or being bombarded with messages from all types of users. Q: What are the positives of Tally? A: Real people, real pictures and real results. All users are manually verified and for every one profile we approve, we also reject one, meaning the quality of our users and the core values that Tally stands for are consistently maintained.

Q: What have been Tally’s high points over the last six months? A: We had a campaign on the London Underground in February and March, and Tally has also been featured in the Metro Newspaper across the UK. From a personal perspective, I love receiving feedback from users and reading all the great reviews via the app store. It means all the long days and nights have been worthwhile. Q: What do you want most out of Tally over the next six months? A: Without a doubt direct feedback from anyone using the app! Constructive criticism will help me to tweak the app to suit its users and ensure the app is doing its job. For me, Tally is all about its users and connecting people long-term. Q: So what does the future hold for Tally? A: I think exciting times are ahead, especially with the launch of Tally to Android later this year. Tally has achieved so much in a very short space of time and provided people continue to download the app, we will continue to grow and evolve in a way that has our users best interests at heart. gotallydating.com A B S O L U T E LY. he quest for the perfect colour is ongoing. Highlights can leave you with the dreaded stripey look, while an all-over tint can look unnatural and flat. The hair desired by most people who think they want highlights is sunkissed and healthy. Sam Burnett, founder of Hare & Bone salon, has the solution. His invention is stretchlights, a combination of babylights and balayage that he calls “a great compromise between having natural depth and being blonde.” Before my appointment, the salon requests a picture of my hair to make sure that the treatment will work for me, and happily I am accepted. It’s a freehand method, with three colours painted painstakingly through tiny pieces of hair towards the root. The focus is on framing the face and creating a shadowed root effect with a soft overal=l feel. The result is impressive – subtle, healthy and glowy, and a world away from the brash, overhighlighted casualty that often arises. Even three weeks on, my hair looks bright and summery. Thank you Hare & Bone. HARE & BONE 69 Great Titchfield Street, W1

here is nothing quite like the refreshing scent of Eau de Cologne. It is uplifting, cleansing and helps one feel perky. Eau de Cologne dates back to 1709, when the first fragrance bearing this title was created – not by a German perfumer, but by an Italian. Giovanni Maria Farina was born in Italy in 1685 and settled in Cologne, founding what is now the oldest working perfume factory. He created his fragrance masterpiece in 1709 and named it 'Eau de Cologne' in gratitude at having been granted citizenship by his adopted home. His inspiration for the fragrance appears in a letter to his brother. "My fragrance is reminiscent of a spring morning in Italy after the rain; of oranges, lemons, grapefruit, bergamot, cedrat and the blooms and herbs of my home.” Farina's Eau de Cologne become an international sensation almost overnight. In a world without proper sanitation this light, refreshing scent was spritzed onto a handkerchief and held under the nose to ward off unpleasant odours. The aristocracy embraced it as the very last word in refinement and Farina's fortunes were assured. This fragrance is still made in the same place, by the same family who have not tampered with the original formula. Almost 100 years later, in 1794, what is perhaps the most famous Eau de Cologne of all was created

“It is refreshing, uplifting and cleansing”

- '4711'. Named after the address of its maker Wilhelm Mülhens, this 'miracle water' was actually intended as a remedy tonic to be ingested undiluted or mixed with wine. When Napoleon Bonaparte decreed in 1810 that all recipes used for medication must publicly list their ingredients, Muhlens, unwilling to divulge the secret of his formula, marketed 4711 as fragrance instead. It became extremely fashionable in the early 20th century, rivalling Chanel No 5 in popularity. The combination of bergamot, lemon, and orange is revitalising, while calming heart notes of lavender and rosemary offer a herbal bite. Neroli is used at the base, its bitter effervescence driving the scent forward. The term Eau de Cologne has lost its meaning over the centuries. Is it the strength of the fragrance (traditionally under 5% concentration) or a combination of certain ingredients? Now it has become that a blanket term to describe a summery scent, usually containing citrus, lavender and herbal notes. Agua de Colonnia Concentrada from Alvarez Gomez in Madrid dates to 1912, another recipe that has been protected by generations of the same family. This is a lemon fragrance like no other, while Hierbas de Ibiza, inspired by the scents of the beautiful island, uses natural essences of orange and lemon peel, thyme, lavender, sage, verbena, jasmine and orange blossom. And finally, a new and exciting collection of colognes, the La Veritable Collection from Parfums Cadentia, comprises five modern masterpieces that combine traditional concepts with a thoroughly modern approach. Apply liberally on a warm evening's commute. Stay fragrant. A B S O L U T E LY. L O N D O N

Wine recommendations for the month By BERRY BROS. & RUDD

2016 Craven Firs, Syrah, Stellenbosch, South Africa £21.50 This wine is grown in vineyards warmerthan-usual for Stellenbosch with dark, iron-rich soils. Savoury notes of iodine and graphite temper the ripe blackberry fruit, creating a refined palate. The finish is long, fresh and defined.

2015 Berry Bros. & Rudd Mosel Riesling Kabinett by Selbach-Oster £10.25 This is a bright, light and fresh Riesling with delicate citrus aromas. The palate is crisp and vibrant, its ripe fruit layered with a core of fine minerality which typifies the quality of the sensational 2015 vintage

2016 Domaine Lyrarakis, Okto, White Crete, Greece £11.50 This is a fabulous blend of indigenous varietals, Muscat of Spina, Vilana and Vidiano – and Sauvignon Blanc. The nose is complex and inviting: floral aromas characteristic of the Muscat family combine to great effect with Vilana’s spice.

BERRY BROS. & RUDD Berry Bros. & Rudd is Britain's oldest wine and spirit merchant, having traded from the same shop since 1698. Today the company also has offices in Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong, a Wine School and an exclusive fine wine and dining venue in St James's.

TASTE OF

LONDON REGENT’S PARK

13~17 JUNE

Taste of London is returning this June to showcase the capital's best, most innovative restaurants, chefs, and food brands. Set to attract to 55,000 people, cuisines from all corners of the world will be meeting for a flavour explosion in the heart of Regent's Park. Here's a pick of our favourite foodie experiences to look forward to:

FREAK SCENE

TASTE JAPAN AKIRA

Japan House London is the much anticipated taste of the Orient that will bring Japanese art, design, technology and most importantly, food to Kensington High Street. Chef Akira Shimizu will be bringing his authentic 'trinity of cooking' approach (food, tableware and presentation) to the capital, and promises a diverse range of cuisine, from Wagyu beef over a flame grill to traditional drinks. 101-111 Kensington High Street, W8; japanhouselondon.uk

This Pan-Asian restaurant started as a pop-up in Clerkenwell, went from strength to strength and is now fully established in Soho. Previously Head Chef at Nobu, creator Scott Hallsworth will be serving up Chili crab and avocado wonton 'Bombs', and Salmon sashimi salad.

ICONIC VIEWS SAVAGE GARDEN

Forget the London Eye, if you want 360 degree views over the capital, Savage Garden is the bar for you. Take in iconic London landmarks like The Shard, The Tower of London, the Gherkin and St. Paul's Cathedral - all whilst sipping and snacking on delicious cocktails and a wide selection of small plates. 7 Pepys Street, EC3N;

BAR DOURO

Bringing a taste of Portugal to London, Bar Douro was masterminded by Max Graham, who spent his childhood in Porto. It will be serving traditional Portuguese dishes such as salt cod hash and milk-fed lamb roll.

EL PASTOR

Known all over London for their outstanding Tacos, El Pastor's stall at Taste will be serving the best of Mexico with Tinga Tostadas and special short ribs.

VEGAN DREAM T H E V U R G E R C O.

BEE HAPPY B L AC K B E E H O N E Y

The British honey bee has had a tough time, but, after near extinction from over farming, they're back on the rise. Black Bee Honey is dedicated to the preservation of honey bees. After finding the best honey, they ensure that the bees are left well alone, as nature intended, and the result is single-origin, happy tasting honey. All the humans do is coarsely filter out any impurities. Available to buy at various locations; blackbeehoney.co

Vegans are on the rise, and the Vurger Co. are taking full advantage, revolutionising “bland” vegan food in favour of flavoursome bean and chargrilled pepper patties, vegan cheese, and house mayo so good even meat eaters will be jealous. Avant Garde Building, E1;

ell-established in Notting Hill, the Parisian-born friends who brought rotisserie to west London are trying their luck in the east of the capital. Not without competition, they’ve set up their second branch of Cocotte in the heart of Hoxton Square. Luckily for them - and us - they know what they’re doing. They seem to be off to a strong start. When we arrive the front terrace is already teeming with people, and customers continue to arrive during the course of our, quite frankly, gargantuan meal.

We start with a couple of cocktails - mine a pleasant Bellini-type Cocotte Spritz, my companion’s a downright dangerous concoction of Mezcal Union, pear liquor and Marie Brizard. Aperitifs served, we go for crudités and honey mustard chicken wings, which are perfectly nice. Out of the two accompanying dips, I’d recommend the ‘green sauce’, a lovely blend of eight herbs, pine nuts and feta. Then comes the main course. Truffle mac and cheese, mashed potato, gepetto salad (burritina, roasted tomato and fresh basil), a fig salad made up of cashews, blue

cheese and honey, ratatouille, half a rotisserie chicken and seven sauces. Never one to order a side of vegetables when cheese and carbs will do me very well, the ratatouille is delicious, and a fresh accompaniment to an otherwise rich meal. The chicken is good - the leg and thigh immensely so, while the mac and cheese is utter heaven. The range of homemade sauces caters for every palate imaginable. The gravy is tasty, the truffle mayo deliciously decadent, while the spicy sauce hot enough to sate any culinary thrill seekers. This is washed down with a crisp and fruity Sauvignon Blanc, which complemented the chicken perfectly. Then comes the cheese course. A strong mix of nutty and blue cheeses, I do my best to get through the lot before rolling all the way home. These guys know what they’re doing. The ambience is just right, the staff friendly without being over attentive, and with a range of healthy and more indulgent sides available, it’s up to you how much you treat yourself to. Something I am clearly still trying to teach myself. ● COCOTTE 8 Hoxton Square, N1 mycocotte.uk A B S O L U T E LY. L O N D O N

arcelona-based Little Creative Factory is that rare thing: a clothing brand that appears to be genuinely animated by the forms, fantasies and phenomena of the outside world – and able to translate that energy into clothes that are at once simple and utterly distinctive. Too often, brands come up with a collection to which they retrospectively peg inspirations. But Little Creative Factory’s ideas and enthusiasms are stitched into every seam of its products. The latest collection, Dancers, offers a playful reimagining of ballet skirts, jazz bodysuits and tap dresses; the soft baby hoodies wouldn’t look out of place in the New York dance milieu of Frances Ha while little bodysuits and apron skirts look like they’ve been snipped out of a Degas. In fact, the painter is an important reference point throughout: there’s a dress named for him, and the entire collection is suff used with the pale, dreamy hues found in his work. littlecreativefactory.com

EDUCATION • FOCUS To take the example of brain development, we know that singing requires interaction between parts of the brain dedicated to aspects of music (such as pitch and rhythm), language (lyrics), fine motor behaviour, visual imagery and emotion. Research also suggests that singing with someone else is not the same as singing alone because it involves neurological areas related to social interaction and coordination. The ability to perform with poise is also critical for academic and future success. The opportunity to practise with self-discipline, perform, make mistakes and overcome nerves is equally as important as writing an essay or mastering a sum. For this reason, we provide a wealth of

The number of arts teachers in schools has fallen by 11% since 2010. In a society where schools are judged largely by their place in the league tables, and the government decide what is counted in those league tables, the arts have suffered. I feel incredibly fortunate to lead a school unconstrained by the whims of government policy on EBacc and funding cuts. At Blackheath High School, we take immense pleasure in cultivating and celebrating the arts. During our annual STEAM week, the

arts sit proudly alongside science, technology, engineering and maths as we challenge our girls with STEAM themed activities. This includes science-based Harry Potter potions classes to motorcycle maintenance or constructing large scale linear thread structures inspired by the artist Adrian Esparza. As a school for 3-18 year olds, we are able to embed a love of creative and performing arts from the start. Last year, our Junior School choir won the GDST Young Choir of the Year competition at the prestigious Cadogan Hall. Performing in magnificent surroundings and working as a team to be crowned winners of this high standard competition was an unforgettable experience for our girls, not to mention the benefit accrued from hours of singing practice.

“Girls use creativity to defy gender stereotypes”

Return of the

performance opportunities for our girls from concerts to a musical production in a professional theatre. Having the courage and intellectual flexibility required to succeed is invaluable for personal development and can be achieved through the arts. In our design technology classes, girls use creativity to find solutions to problems and defy gender stereotypes by engaging in activities like construction and welding. In art, our girls learn dedication, imagination, attention to detail and courage. In a recent collaboration with Farrow & Ball, our art scholars developed stunning pieces in response to the theme ‘SE3: Surfaces and Structures’ using Farrow & Ball paints and materials. They were pushed out of their comfort zone, worked to a deadline and prepared for a professional exhibition. In The Guardian, playwright James Graham recently observed “how dangerous it would be for education if you turn it into a factgathering exercise, with no space for children to make emotional or creative sense of their lives”. As parents and teachers, we should resist this evisceration of our children’s education with all the energy we can muster. A B S O L U T E LY. L O N D O N

rtists have always been drawn to the Scilly Isles, the archipelago that lies 28 miles from the Cornish coast. The light, the improbably beautiful beaches with their Caribbean-white sand and Disney-like aquamarine water, the exotic fauna, the microclimate and the generally otherworldly feel to the region all make it special. Because you’ve really got to want to come here. It might be in England but time-wise it’s definitely Long Haul – the journey time from London is similar to the Caribbean’s. It’s an endless drive from London to Land’s End, especially accompanied by rain that ranges from pouring to torrential with grey skies, terrible visibility and pockets of flooding. But there’s a glimmer

Everything seems miniature and oldfashioned apart from the fauna, which is bizarre of blue sky in the distance as soon as we arrive at Land’s End airport, and from here the travelling gets more interesting. A 16-seater Skybus – too small even for hand luggage – takes about 15 minutes to reach St Mary’s, the only island with an airport (from the passenger windows it seems that the landing strip is obscured by rocks, which makes for an exciting descent) and from here it’s a car to the port, followed by a boat to Tresco, the privately-owned island where we are headed. With a population of just 170, Tresco is a privately owned island run mainly as a timeshare business. Leased from the Duchy of Cornwall it the early 19th century, it is still run by the same family. There are no cars; everything seems miniature and old-fashioned apart from the fauna which is bizarre and exotic, all sprawling succulents and tropical palms. Think Postman Pat on the Galapagos. On Tresco, there’s a single pub, a church, a primary school, a shop, a spa, two restaurants and an art gallery, plus a ruined castle and the Abbey and that’s really it. At less than two miles long and with no street lighting, this is a calm and quiet place where you’re never far from an improbably beautiful beach and an impressive view. Our cottage, one of the Flying Boat terraces, is named Fearless and from its sitting room it has an impressive view of the A B S O L U T E LY. L O N D O N

beach and the sea; at low tide a sandbank appears and creates a walkable route to Bryher, the next island, which is even smaller and has a population of only about 80 people (though it does have a fantastic hotel, Hell Bay). The main highlight of Tresco is the Abbey Garden, often described as a perennial Kew without the glasshouse. Dating back to the 19th century, this subtropical garden is home to more than 20,000 species of plants from at least 80 countries and even in the depths of winter there are exotic plants in flower. Many of them that wouldn’t survive on the mainland just 30 miles away are able to thrive here thanks to the sheltered location and peculiar microclimate. These gardens were established by the 19th century proprietor of the islands, Augustus Smith, originally as a private garden within the grounds of the home that he designed and built on a site hosting the remains of a Benedictine Abbey. There were hardly any trees on the island and the gorse did not provide enough protection so

Augustus planted ‘shelterbelts’. The first were mainly deciduous trees such as, elm, sycamore, oak, and poplar, and later he planted Monterey cypress and Monterey pine which are fast growing and suited to coastal conditions. By building tall windbreaks, Smith channelled the weather up and over the network of walled enclosures. He also carved three terraces from the rocky, south facing slope looking towards St Mary’s. The hotter, drier terraces at the top of the garden suit South African and Australian plants; those lower down provide the humidity that favours flora from New Zealand and South America. Not only is the island home to a diversity of fauna but its wildlife is also remarkable. This is one of the few places where the red squirrel still thrives, not having been bullied into extinction by its fiercer grey cousin. There are no badgers, foxes or hedgehogs on Tresco and therefore the gentle red squirrel has no predators. Sure, an island of this diminutive size lacks facilities. There is one shop and a bike

Among the Scilly Isles’ many loyal fans is artist Hugo Dalton. His latest range of wallpapers for The Paint and Paper Library (pictured above) is named after Tresco and features beautiful visualisations of the island’s landscapes and landmarks. He said: “The Isles of Scilly archipelago and Tresco in particular has been a place of joy and inspiration throughout my career. The clarity and calm of the Island has guided the creation of each individual wallpaper.” paintandpaperlibrary.com hire place, a post office (a very efficient one – our postcard arrived in London the next day) plus a pub, a brasserie, a restaurant and a spa – as well as, of course, an art gallery. The New Inn pub’s walls feature a potted history of the island with portraits of past residents and families as well as significant boats. In all, this is an otherworldly spot with a strong sense of history and a wildly beautiful landscape. No wonder people keep returning after their first visit. We will too. tre s c o.c o.u k A B S O L U T E LY. L O N D O N

f Cornwall’s north coast is all about surf, the south coast is all about beauty. The insanely pretty village of Veryan on the Roseland peninsula, near beautiful St Mawes, is green and lush with exotic-looking fauna. The Nare is brilliantly located directly on Carne Beach, a vast expanse of sand and sea that’s picture-book perfect. s well as the beach, there are indoor and outdoor pools and a tennis court too. Resident artist Jeanni is on hand with art classes for all levels – we spent a happy morning learning to paint seascapes in acrylic and came away with new-found skills. But the best activity here is the espionage adventure. Toby Ashworth’s enthusiasm for an elaborate scheme that invites guests to follow a series of clues – including a trip to St Mawes castle in his boat, the Alice Rose – is infectious and we spend a happy afternoon deciphering codes and hunting for information, all of it leading to the discovery of a Russian mole on the hotel staff.

VIBRANT ROYAL DOCKS Royal Docks – Regeneration epicenter offering thousands of jobs and new homes!

I

f you are planning to live and work in one of the most vibrant places in London, then the choice has to be the ever-changing Royal Docks, which is fast evolving into a business hub offering the best of the facilities. Easily one of the most exciting regeneration projects in Europe, the area is poised for growth offering thousands of new job opportunities and homes of all categories to an expanding demographic profile. . The stakeholders of the Royal Docks area are unlocking the incredible opportunities in this eastern part of London. In 2011, the Mayor of London, Mayor of Newham, Greater London Authority and London Borough of Newham set out their vision to make the Royal Docks a vital piece of London’s 21st century economy. Their determination is yielding results now as Royal Docks is undergoing a major transformation. Just two years ago, a diverse, unique and experienced collection of private sector partners complemented the efforts of the stakeholders by delivering this vision for Royal Docks through multiple

initiatives to provide a distinctive look to the city and foster economic growth. The private sector in the coming years is expected to invest over £6bn into the Royal Docks creating 10 million sq ft of commercial space attracting the world’s most exciting companies of sorts and sizes and providing thousands of new jobs – not just a redefined place once at the edge of London, but a place with its own identity. To support the businesses, more than 15,000 new homes are being developed in phases. In fact, the transformation of the Royal Docks builds on the success of ExCeL, the Siemens Crystal and University of East London, and the connections of London City Airport, which serve 4.5 million passengers on over 40 routes to European destinations. The Crossrail, which commences operations partially in 2018, connects to Canary Wharf in 3 minutes, the City of London in 12 minutes, and the West End in 18 minutes. There are 14 DLR stations, the Emirates AirLine connects to the O2 and Greenwich Peninsula, and proposals for new Thames River Crossings and Thames

Clipper services are being considered.. London-based Strawberry Star Group, an international property company, specialising in Capital, Development, Acquisitions, Sales, Asset Management and Letting & Management of London property to local and international investors, is also playing an integral role in the comprehensive growth of the Royal Docks area by contributing to the local housing stock. Hoola London E16, a unique residential building by Strawberry Star, is a gateway to the Royal Docks. It consists of 360 aesthetically designed homes commanding 360-degree views over the Thames, O2 Arena, the Olympic Park, the skyline vista of Canary Wharf and the City of London. Designed by internationally renowned architects CZWG, working alongside interior specialists Johnson Naylor, gardens are work of Churchman Landscape Architects. Hoola is set within the heart of the Royal Docks regeneration vision close to the forthcoming Asian Business Park, Silvertown Quays, and Crossrail station and within proximity to The Excel and London City Airport. Minutes’ walk to Royal Victoria (DLR Line) and new Crossrail Interchange and a short walk from Canning Town Station on the Jubilee Line provide easy access to Canary Wharf, The City and West End. Owning a home at Hoola now is crucial because Royal Docks regeneration is in full swing. The area is already witnessing a steady growth in capital values of properties and an increase in rental income. Once regeneration is completed, the growth is expected to be higher with demand further picking pace.
