MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT
How to measure a Croissant? Firstly, get a Crossiant, take photos and scan it. Then, complete the top view, elevation and sections drawings based on the photos. Use pencils and fineline pen to do the shading and hatching to show depth. In this module, I learned how to measure a Croissant and construct orthographic projection drawings by hand, as well as some techniques of hatching and shading.

NEW MARIO WORLD
The making of new Mario world. In this module, I created a new Mario world. The basic structure was according to the 2D screenshots given by our tutor. Besides, I add some characters such as the cherry, mushrooms and Mario in the world to make it become diverse. In the hidden area, I added a river which winded through hills in the world and formed two waterfalls. Moreover, I lowered the ground on the front side, which let the river dropped down to show different levels.

Some Equipment. 30cm Ruler, pencil, Liner, T-Square, Form Board and the printed picture.
The two Sections. These two axonometric drawings were done on two separate A4 tracing paper, because it was easier to adjust the position of each element. Another A3 drawing was finished based on these two drawings.

The in-class feedback. In the studio, students pined up the drawings, looked at each others’ work and gave comments and suggestions to each other.
PAPER LANDSCAPE
The making of new landscape The original surface was pitched according to the diagonal line. So I designed the arrangement of 3D pattern and 2D pattern to be symmetry along the diagonal line. The three 3D models was created with different size of open surface on the top. Then I used command ptPanel3DCustomVariable to create a panel with 3D pattern in different heights and open sizes, so that the lowest part of the surface has the highest 3D model, and with the surface went higher, the 3D models gradually became shorter.

The Original Panel. Go to Paneling Tools, and create paneling grid, setting the surface domain number as 10*10.
The Grid Panel. Group these points.
The 3D objects. Create 3D object witch will be used as used as a custom panel.
The back side of the model
The Final Panel. Use Rhino panelling tools to make 3D models on the surface (here is the point attractor). Then delete part of 3D model based on the design.

INVISIBLE CITY
The isometric drawing of symbolized old quad shows the whole journey of Marco Polo in the city Laudomia, which is in a eye of Laudomia citizen. Instead of dividing the old quad into three parts to show the feature of triple city, I make the living, dead and unborn Laudomia together and overlapped with each other.
Cities & the DeaD 5: LauDomia
The following two perspectives represent the life of Laudomias from living to dead. The moods and atomesphere are different. I chose Sanna people to be the characters because they do not have faces, so that they could be anyone in the city. The characters in perspectives are matched, including a couple, a single man and woman, two children. Another important part of this triple city is the unborn citizens, which are symbolized by blastomere. It can live “on the walls, on every capital or plinth”, living in the whole city and in both perspectives. The materials used for decations in these two perspwc- tives also have meaning respectively. Marble is the only material mentioned in the text (“so you can contemplate in a marble vein all Laudomia of a hundred or a thousand years”), so it is used for the column. The color black and white show the mood transformation. Besides, the floor of perspective 2 is smoke, which represents unknow and mystery; the floor of perspective 1 is a river, which means life is only once and never goes back. Moreover, the backgrounds outside the old quad show the time from day(clouds) to night(starry sky).

The first perspective is saw when Marco Polo first enter the city, which is a perspective of future. As mentioned in the text, the living Laudomia are really curious about themsel- vies, but “the more they sharpen their eyes, the less they can discern a continuous line.

The second perspective is saw when Marco Polo nished a life journey in the eye of a Laudomia and look back to the beginning.

REFLECTION
In module 1, I learnt how to measure a Croissant and construct orthographic projection drawings by hand. I also get a sense of how to use drawing equipment, such as T-square and tracing paper, appropriately and techniques of hatching and shading. In module 2, it is my first time to use softwares do the drawings. I learnt how to use Adobe InDesign, Illustrators and Photoshop. Besides, I felt the differences between ‘subjective’ and ‘objective’ points of view, and that thought helped to define 2d and 3d spatial constructions, which have impacts on the perception. As for module 3, I learnt much about Rhinoceros 5, and paneling tools, as well as use digital tools to convert ideas and produce a physical model. The last module was analysing a piece of the novel The Invisible Cities and creating two scenes. My sense of how representation works thrived, and I learnt some new techniques in Adobe Photoshop. Furthermore, in module 2 and 4, we got chances to discussing and exchanging our ideas in the studios, which contribute to developing a better understanding of the projects. From my point of view, Module 3 is the most unsuccessful one among four modules. It is because I am not familiar with the operation in adobe softwares (i.e. Illustrator). In addition, I have not gotten the skill of manage time properly under the pressure of part-time job and lots of assignments, which were due in the same period, at the beginning of university.
