WEEK 9 READING: TITLE OF READING

Question 1: What are Durer’s rules for perspectival projection? (Maximum 100 words)

The first rule is that all perpendiculars of “orthagonals” meet at the central vanishing point, which is on the line that is perpendicular drawn from eye to the plane of the picture. The second rule is that all parallels in any direction have a common vanishing point. The last rule is equal dimensions diminish progressively as they receded in space.

Question 2: Describe homogenous space? (Maximum 100 words)

The homogenous space is described as a place which all the elements it contains, the points for example, are just to determine their position. Without containing any content, the homogenous space is a in nite and rational place that is contructed by peopel’s imagination. It is a purely mathematical space and is never given space, but space produced by construction.

QUAD PERSPECTIVE 1 + 2 Annotation. The first perspective is the scene that Marco Polo firstly sees when he enter the city Laudomia (the old quad) as a new living Laudomia.

Annotation. The second perspective is the scene that Marco Polo look back towards the beginning of his journey when he is reaches the end of life of Laudomia.

PERSPECTIVE SCENE 1 + 2 The first perspective is saw when Marco Polo first enter the city, which is a perspective of future. As mentioned in the text, the living Laudomia are really curious about themselvies, but “the more they sharpen their eyes, the less they can discern a continuous line”. The second perspective is saw when Marco Polo finished a life journey in the eye of a Laudomia and look back to the beginning. These two perspectives represent the life of Laudomias from living to dead. The moods and atomesphere are different. I chose Sanna people to be the characters because they do not have faces, so that they could be anyone in the city. The characters in perspectives are matched, including a couple, a single man and woman, two children. Another important part of this triple city is the unborn citizens, which are symbolized by blastomere. It can live “on the walls, on every capital or plinth”, living in the whole city and in both perspectives. The materials used for decations in these two perspwctives also have meaning respectively. Marble is the only material mentioned in the text (“so you can contemplate in a marble vein all Laudomia of a hundred or a thousand years”), so it is used for the column. The color black and white show the mood transformation. Besides, the floor of perspective 2 is clouds, which represents unknow and mystery; the floor of perspective 1 is a river, which means life is only once and never goes back. Moreover, the backgrounds outside the old quad show the time from day(clouds) to night(starry sky).

WEEK 4 READING: TITLE OF READING

Question 1: IWhat is the difference between autographic and allographic practice? (Maximum 100 words)

Autograohic practice is a type of art, including sclupture and paiting, has direct contact with and is depedent on the author himself. Allographic practice that the artwork can be reproduced throughout the process, such as music, poetry and theatre. They can be produced without the direction intervention of the author and are capable of being reproduced at a distance from authors by means of notations.

Question 2: Why do architects need new representational techniques? (Maximum 100 words)

Architecture is either autograohic or allographic. Various representational techniques are very helpful for architects in many cases. With the development of modern technology, architects have many new ways for representing the idea of architecture. Using different representational techniques like autographic or allographic practices can be very simple. In order to sustain the relevance between architecture and real life, architects also needs to address the social and political implications of the shift from artifact to effect.

The isometric drawing of symbolized old quad shows the whole journey of Marco Polo in the city Laudomia, which is in a eye of Laudomia citizen. Instead of dividing the old quad into three parts to show the feature of triple city, I make the living, dead and unborn Laudomia together and overlapped with each other.
