WEEK 3 READING: LEGER, LE CORBUSIER AND PURISM. KRAUSS, ROSALIND 1972.

Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? (Maximum 100 words)

According to Le Corbusier, pictorial space is that which cannot be entered or circulated through; it is irremediably space viewed from a distance, and is therefore eternally resigned to frontality.

Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against?(Maximum 100 words)

The constellation of objects wedges which the Purists called “Marrige de contour” as well as the color and texture, which are handled in a manner called attention to the inherent superficiality of these “secondary qualities” lead to the flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting. These two properties are pitted against the cesura between objects, which alludes to a sense of depth.

MARIO’S WORLD

1ST MARIO’S WORLD

The first image of hand drawing of Mario World. I followed the instructions on LMS and set up the mounting board and the original 2D Mario World at specific angle (45 degrees).

COMBINED MARIO’S WORLD

Scan image of hand drawing of Mario World. I drew two elevations separately and then tracing them on a same piece paper. After scanned it, I used Photoshop to adjust it to make the background white and the lines clear.

WEEK 4 READING: AXONOMETRIC PROJECTION: NEW GEOMETRIES AND OLD ORIGINS. ALLEN, STAN. Question 1: Explain the difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection? (Maximum 100 words)

The main difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection is the vanish point. Perspective drawings do not portray true dimensions of the object, but axonometic drawings portray actural measurements of the object. Perspective drawings focuses more on how we visualise the image from a point, while axonometic drawings focuses on the technical details involved in measurement.

Question 2: Where did Axonometric projection first arise, and why? (Maximum 100 words)

The earliest Axonometric drawings were first used for military purpose, which was originally used to chart three dimensional trajectories of artillery projectiles. Axonometric drawing was taught in engineering school and it becme closer to mechanization and industrialization in 18th ang 19th centuries. And later it was used in archirecture .

ILLUSTRATED MARIO’S NEW WORLD

This is my Mario World. The lines are all accurate, continuous and parallel. I made a different level and added small charactor inside to show the diversity of the world. I tried to use different colors at the cut section to show the live of grass. One thing is not good enough is that the colors of objects in this world do not make them stereoscopic enough.
