The killing fields of Vhembe... MK veteran shot seven times at home The family of a woman who was killed last Tuesday evening at Mavhunga village in Nzhelele have described the incident as the worst nightmare that has ever happened to them. Ms Ntshavheni Sharon Masithulela (48) was shot seven times at her home in what the family is convinced was a planned murder. Masithulela was a member of the MK veterans (MKVA) in Limpopo and a member of the ANC. Her son, Khangwelo, described the incident as “the worst traumatising experience” of his life. He said he was on his way home on the day of the incident. He told Limpopo Mirror last Thursday that he heard a gunshot at his home. Upon his arrival, he saw a man leaving his home. The unknown man was driving a white Volkswagen Golf 6 and left the scene swiftly. According to reports, a man who was drinking alcohol at a local tavern that afternoon allegedly asked for directions to the deceased’s home. The deceased’s nephew, Mr Mashudu Masithulela, said they could not rule out that it was a planned death. Continued on p2.

Businessman gunned down in Thohoyandou The violent death of Thohoyandou businessman Imtiyaz Faruk Motala has sent shockwaves through the closely knit Indian community. Motala (35) of Thohoyandou Block F, who traded in furniture at several shops, was killed when armed robbers ambushed him at the gate of his home on Monday evening around 21:00. According to a report, Motala had been home with his family when his manager arrived to deliver cash. Upon receiving the money parcel from his manager, he was allegedly confronted by two men who ambushed him and shot him. He died at the scene. It is also alleged that accomplices of the robbers were waiting for the others in a white BMW close to Mr Motala’s home.

Some of them then abducted the manager and forced him to lie on the floor of his car, a Toyota Venture. They then drove to Tswinga, where the manager was forced to hide in the bushes with the instruction not to come out until the robbers were gone. The men also allegedly told him that they were going to Gauteng. Motala’s death and the armed robbery is one of numerous incidents reported against the Indian community in the Thohoyandou area. Indian community leader Mr Ayub Madina said violent armed robberies had reached alarming proportions in the area, with at least 10 cases of armed robbery reported in the area. “We are living in fear. On the other hand, we have people masquerading as police robbing us

at our homes and those who lay in ambush at our homes. On Monday evening, one of our brothers was killed and more than R200 000 was taken away during the shooting. We are now at the mercy of thugs,” he said. Thohoyandou police spokesperson Const Avhafarei Tshiovhe confirmed the shooting and the subsequent robbery. “We can confirm the incident and have opened murder and armed robbery cases. As of now, no one has been arrested in connection with the incident and investigations are ongoing,” she said. * Mr Bhavesh Desai (43), of Wylliespoort Trading Store (Desai Cash and Carry), was shot by unknown gunmen near his shop in Wylliespoort. Both the businessmen were buried in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) on Tuesday afternoon.

Well-known traditional leader Thovhele Kennedy Tshivhase recently decided to donate a house to a disadvantaged family in the Thulamela municipal area. According to Cllr Matodzi Netshifhefhe of Thulamela Municipality, this is history because it is the first time that a traditional leader has assisted a struggling family in such a way. “Most of the time here in our municipality, houses are donated either by businesses, churches or non-government organizations.” Netshifhefhe was addressing villagers at Muhotoni village, near Mbahela, during the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of

the four-roomed house for the Phaswana family at the weekend. The village falls under the leadership of Musanda Vho-Lavhelesani Rantsana, a renowned pastor and academic. Tshivhase added that he had learnt with sadness that the beneficiary of the house, Mr Albert Phaswana, is blind and is staying in a below-standard two-roomed house with his wife and four children. “His makeshift kitchen, made of old corrugated iron and tree trunks, made my heart bleed with pain. I then decided to help the family to acquire a good place to stay, so that they can also enjoy the fruits of freedom.” Much to the delight of the villagers, Tshivhase added that he was going to spend R100

We will soon start delivering bricks and all construction material. Because there is a serious shortage of water here, I will make sure that when the house is completed, I also provide a borehole for this family.” He jokingly said: “Traditional leaders must leave a mark in this land. People must not just say muhali vho bebiwa, vha rwelwa tari, vha dzama (the traditional leader was born, inaugurated and passed on). It is my duty as a traditional leader to make sure that all my subjects are living decent lives after the 20 years of democracy.” The village headman, Vho-Lavhelesani Rantsana, said that it was a dream come true and that he would continue to engage other leaders in developing this village. “Everyone is happy with the progress of this village and we receive applications from people who want to stay here on a daily basis.” The blind beneficiary, Albert Phaswana (62), could only said that it was the happiest day of his life. “No words can express my happiness and gratitude. Nzhelele’s Vulture to fight in Gauteng Paul ‘Cruel Vulture’ Masindi (31), a well-known boxer from the Nzhelele valley, will participate in a professional boxing tournament in Gauteng tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon. He will fight against Ronald Malindi in the bantamweight division in a tournament that will take place in the Orlando community hall. The tournament is hosted by Golden Gloves Promotions and it is expected that Supersport 7 will broadcast

the event from 14:00. Masindi, who aims to become the IBF champion in future, believes that he will still get the opportunity to reach his goal. He started his boxing career in 1999 and became professional in 2012. He said during those days that turning professional was extremely difficult, considering the testing procedure. “No matter how brilliant you may be, back then if you could not do the skipping rope for 30 minutes, you would not be promoted,” he said. Despite his initial lurching career, Masindi never gave up. He trained very hard to turn professional. In 2002, when his boxing career was Paul "Cruel Vulture" Masindi is ready for struggling to take off, he tomorrow's fight in Orlando.

enrolled at Univen for a BCom degree. Apart from his degree at Univen, he also acquired his BTech in labour relations from Unisa. Although he received academic qualifications, Masindi said that boxing runs in his veins. "I believe that this is my year and I will achieve so many accolades,” he said. Tomorrow will be his third professional fight. Currently, he trains at the Gym4U boxing academy in Thohoyandou. He recently won a fight in Cape Town, when he knocked out his opponent in the first round. Financial difficulties are a dire challenge in his career. He is often confronted by transport problems. “Most of us (boxers) face transport problems during tournaments that are far from the province,” he said. He was pleading with any person who was willing to provide sponsorship to phone him on 072 265 7536 or 074 604 0497. Mr Kevin Marubini has promised to sponsor him when he returns from Gauteng province.

Senior policeman nabbed by the Hawks A senior member of the SAPS attached to the Vuwani Police appeared in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court, following his arrest a fortnight ago on charges of corruption and extortion. Det W/O Tshidaho Moses Mashishi (50) of Tshimbupfe was not asked to plead when he appeared in court on Monday, 29 September. The case was postponed to last Friday (3 October) for his bail application to be heard. He was given bail of R3 000 and the case was postponed to

27 November. According to information made available, a woman laid a charge of rape against a man. Instead of arresting the suspect, Mashishi allegedly phoned the suspect and demanded money, with promises to make the case disappear. The man apparently phoned the Hawks’ special investigating unit, who helped set a trap for the suspect. The incident happened at the Vuwani Complex and Mashishi allegedly asked for R6 000. When Mashishi appeared in

court last week, members of the community packed the small court room. Mashishi is a wellknown policeman, who has been in the service for more than 20 years. The bail application was handled by a magistrate and prosecutor from outside Limpopo. Police spokesperson Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi confirmed Mashishi’s arrest. “He was arrested, following allegations that he thad taken money in order to make a rape case disappear,” he said.

Angry Mbilwi residents on the rampage Despite the fact that the police have made available a reward of R100 000 for information that could lead to the arrest of the killer or killers of Ms Nyelisani Mphaphuli of Mbilwi, no one has been arrested so far in connection with her murder. Mphaphuli (60) of Mbilwi outside Thohoyandou was gruesomely murdered in May this year and some of her body parts were found to be missing. After the murder, angry residents have indicated on a number of occassions they are not happy with the way police are handling the case. Sporadic incidents of violence have occurred in the village, with

properties of people suspected to be connected to her murder being set alight. About 10 days ago, the case took another turn when items belonging to the murdered woman were allegedly found at the house of one of the people suspected in the case. Items found are said to be beer cans the victim was drinking, her snuff and some of her underwear. It is alleged that the police were called to come and take the items, but they did not do so. This is said to have angered the residents, who burnt the house of the suspected killer in the area. Last Thursday evening, the angry mob burnt another house in the area. The 13-roomed house belongs

to another resident suspected to have taken part in the ritual murder. The man lost everything as nothing was saved from the house. He also lost two vehicles and tavern stock worth hundreds of thousands of rands. Community leader Alson Nndanganeni said the members of the community were still very angry and felt that the police were not doing enough to crack this case. “We had a meeting of all community structures, the municipality, the police and the traditional leadership in the area. The police have indicated that there could be a breakthrough within two weeks, but our people do not seem happy about that.”

A structure to assist various municipalities in Vhembe to address the challenges they encounter in service delivery was launched in Thohoyandou last Tuesday. The Vhembe District Research Forum vows to make Vhembe a better place to live in, said the acting executive mayor, Cllr Dorcus Mmboyi. The forum is supported by representatives from the research unit in the Office of the Premier as well as from Univen. “Through the forum, the district will identify a research agenda and will also establish an ethics committee, whose task is to deal with ethical issues. We don’t want irrelevant services delivery going to our communities, but they must rather advise us what their priority projects are,” said Mmboyi. “Real men do not disturb others’ peace” “Today we have men who are merely wearing the gender title of being males, while in reality they are not 'men'. Stop being those men!” Those were the words of Munna Ndi Nnyi's director, Bardwell Mufunwaini, to the prisoners at the Makhado Correctional Centre during the domestic violence awareness campaign last Thursday. “Morals are gone,” he said. “We used to sleep outdoors in the open in summer, but we can't enjoy doing that kind of thing today. Hu na mavemu (There are criminals)! Men must stop pretending to be real men. Real men do not disturb other people's peace.” He said that there were men who would assault their wives because she had come back home late. “But when you do the same, nobody beats you,” he said. He then gave a painful example of a man who had consumed mpesu (aphrodisiac concoction) and hid in the dark, so that he could attack any woman and rape her. Indeed, a woman came to pass by where he had hidden himself. “He kicked her in the chest and she fell down,” he said frankly. “The moment he started tearing off her clothes and unzipping his crotch, the woman spoke: 'Oh my son – how can you do this

ugly act to me, your own mother!' He left her and ran away. Whose mother did he want to abuse?” He then urged all prisoners to start behaving like men. “Stop behaving like boys. A real man never lays his hand on a woman; only cowards do that,” he said. At least 85 inmates are part of rehabilitational programmes, such as family and marriage care, life skills, and substance abuse. Social worker Ms Refiloe Thovhakale said that some offenders were in correctional facilities because they committed different types of crime. "Working with offenders is not easy. I understand human behaviour, though,” said Refiloe. She warned that people must go to school, they must do away with peer pressure, and they must not be involved in crime. An inmate, Madumi Thavhana, who received a marriage family certificate through the programme, said he was a better person now than before he was incarcerated. “Prison is not good,” he said. “All children must listen to their parents, go to school and Munna Ndi Nnyi's do away with substance director, Mr Bardwell Mufunwaini. abuse.”

Monthly stargazing evening The Soutpansberg Astronomy Club in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) will hold their next monthly stargazing evening on Saturday, 18 October, from sunset onwards. This will coincide with the passage of comet C/2013 A1 (Siding Spring) past the planet Mars the following evening. Calculations show that on 19 October the comet will pass as close as 0.00088 AU's, (132 000 km) from the centre point of Mars.

For comparison, Mars's outer moon Deimos orbits at 24 000 km from the planet, while our moon orbits the earth at an average distance of 384 400 km. It will pass Mars at a relative velocity of 56 km/s, reaching an apparent magnitude of -6 as seen from Mars. Eye awareness campaign for residents of Nzhelele Residents from the greater Nzhelele area, especially the elderly, flocked to the Ha-Matidza grounds last Thursday for an eye-awareness campaign. During the campaign, their eyes were examined by specialists from the Vhembe Department of Health. The department’s manager in Vhembe, Mr Robert Sirwali, mentioned that the major causes of childhood blindness were vitamin A deficiency, measles and disease

transmission through the birth canal. “The preventive measures include the distribution of vitamin A tablets, immunization and prenatal as well as perinatal care,” Sirwari said. He urged people to visit a specialist for a check-up if ever they experience cataract and other eye problems. Cllr Maria Mamedzi from Vhembe District Municipality said the various eye diseases did not discriminate between people on the basis of their financial status or social standing. She said it was important that such awareness campaigns be held, as eyesight problems had become a major challenge in the community. Certain population groups are at particular risk of experiencing avoidable vision loss, including older people, people with a family history of eye disease, people with diabetes, and marginalised and disadvantaged people. Cllr Mamedzi said that An elderly person receives attention from one the department had chosen the area because a of the nurses.

One of the three suspects who allegedly went on a rampant criminal spree in Nzhelele last month is still at large. The police have not yet gathered the details about the suspect, but rumours are rife in the Nzhelele communities that he is lingering around. It has also surfaced in the community that the suspect apparently went to Zimbabwe to seek muti. Members of the community believe that the muti is apparently helping him to avoid arrest. Maduwa returned to his home at Donkerhoek in Tshitale on Friday night, only to find his room in disorder. Oh, they’ve killed me!” Maduwa’s property included, among others, a computer, music system, cameras, car battery charger and a video camera. “I raised funds to buy photographic equipment by selling some sweets in local schools and in the streets of Makhado,” he said. “I wanted to use the equipment to raise funds for my tuition at an FET, as it’s my wish to study there.” He added that he also used his photography skills and equipment to raise money for good things that he needed in life. Maduwa said his ancestors and God were very angry with what had happened to his property. “Whoever took my property must return it,” he warned. “Whoever took my equipment will pay dearly. He or she will have to face the wrath of my ancestors and God. Don’t say I didn’t send out a warning,” he warned. Maduwa said that he was not an evil person. “In a situation like this, one is forced to retaliate,” he said. “I am only giving the thief or thieves two weeks to return my things. If they fail to do so, I will be praying a bad prayer for that person to get an accident which will leave him or her with one leg and one arm. This is not a joke.” He said he was that kind of youth who had always wanted to succeed and achieve more things in life. “I don’t even wish to steal,” he said. “Now I missed a photography deal which could have earned me R4 000 in Polokwane.” He added: “My heart is bleeding at the thought that Bafana Bafana is coming to Polokwane on 15 October, where the business will also be good for photographers. Learning at the rural Tshivhulani Primary School in Sibasa received a major boost when a local resident donated sanitary pads to the girls at the school. Mr Pandelani Reckson Mathoho, a resident at Tshivhulani and also a house father at the New Life After Prison halfway house, visited the school and arrived with a load of sanitary pads last Thursday. Together with the principal, Mr

Thomas Raliphaswa, and SGB member Mulalo Ndou, he gave the pads to all the girls. “I stay in this community and I know the difficulties the families are going through as many parents are not working. Sanitary pads are a luxury that many girls and parents cannot afford and it is a necessity for the girls. Some go to the extent of staying away from school as they feel embarrassed,” he said. Ms Ndou praised the gesture

and said the community needed people who were aware of the needs of their community and did something about them. Principal Raliphaswa commended Mathoho for the good work. “We are one of the poorest schools in the area as most of the parents of the pupils are not working. Some of the pupils are from child-headed families. The pads will redeem the poor girls’ self-esteem and improve learning at school,” he said.

Album bears testimony to her faith Sixth gospel album for Mabasa Kaizer Nengovhela

Since her second album, Athiathumuvhona, was released, Marubini Rahulani has become a highly rated gospel artist in Limpopo. She started her music career in 1992 as a member of the choir of the Apostolic Faith Mission church choir in Vuwani. She felt,

however, that her talent was not being recognized. Her first album, Jordan, was released in 2005, with hit praise songs like Vhuhwavho haundivhuhulu and Jevo Jaira. The favourites songs on her new album are Linamaanda, Riaurenda Murena and Vuwa uloshe. “I have been wandering around and saw many things in life, but there was one thing that I was missing in life, and that was God. Now that I have found the Lord, everything has changed and my life has to bear testimony that I have changed. That is where this album came into being,” Rahulani said. She said people could have everything they could wish for in life but without God they would never enjoy life to the fullest. “We are all created in the image of God and we should pay back by praising Him, and in my case, it is through music. I am very grateful to my spiritual father, Thomas Liremi of Madombidzha Apostolic Faith Mission

Church, and the whole congregation who saw potential in me and made this project a reality,” she added. Rahulani said that she was concerned to see that there were young people who were consuming liquor and some were using drugs. She said with God in a person’s life it was not necessary to use artificial sources like drugs to become happy. She also stated that, even though she had not gone far in terms of education, she had come to realize the importance of education and always encouraged the young ones to put education first. She said the music industry was dying because of piracy. “There are no more music shops in town, because they cannot compete with these ruthless thieves who sell our music at next to nothing. Many in this industry have lost their jobs and artists are now at the receiving end as their albums are found on pavements and sold for as little as R10, with the money going to the pirates,” she said.

Lawrence Mabasa makes comeback with his sixth gospel album Frank Mavhungu After a break of about two years, well-known local gospel artist Lawrence Mabasa has made a comeback with his sixth album. He released his fifth album, Nthange Phanda, in October 2012. Mabasa, or “Lolo” as he is widely known, is one of the local musicians whose music is growing with time. According to him, it became clear to everyone around him that he was a talented singer when he was still a junior primary and Sunday school child. In 2003, he felt that he was mature enough to try his luck at the recording studio and he recorded his debut album, Lead me to Calvary. Although it was his debut album, its performance on the market was by far above Mabasa’s expectation. Two years down the line, Mabasa was at the recording studio again where he recorded his

second album, Think of me. In 2007, he released his third album, Sape isizwe, and in 2009 he surprised the gospel fraternity with When peace like a river. Although When peace like a river is more than five years old now, it is still in demand. The new release, Blessed Assurance, was recently recorded at his family’s recording studio, MB Records, and released on 25 August. Just like all the previous albums, this one will also be self-marketed and -distributed. Asked how his previous album were affected by piracy, Mabasa said that piracy was one of the reasons why he was still a poor man, despite the fact that he has already released five albums. He revealed that he will be perfor ming at various ceremonies, including weddings,

“Do not wait for government hand-outs” Recipients of diplomas and certificates during the diploma ceremony of the Professional Technical College were told not to sit down and lament while waiting for the government to give them jobs, but to start creating jobs themselves. This was the advice given by the principal of Sambandou Primary School, Ms Mashudu Sumbana. She addressed students and parents during a ceremony where 140 students were awarded qualifications in different faculties. The event was at-

tended by top-flight academics, among them Dr Booi Mbedzi, the acting chanchellor of the college. It took place at the Thohoyandou Arts and Culture Centre last Friday. “You are now educated in different fields, and now that you have the keys to open closed doors, do not sit down and lament, waiting for handouts. You can now start your own projects, using the skills you acquired and also empower others in your communities,” said Sumbana. Ms Virginia Chauke (23) of Malamulele, who received a diploma in Human

Resource Management, said she was proud to have acquired skills, as they would stand her in good stead in the competitive job market. College principal Mr Fhatuwani Mphephu said the college would continue to offer quality training in different fields and to produce graduates who would go out and make a difference in their communities. “We offer skills that are job orientated and we pride ourselves on producing graduates who are occupying responsible positions in the private sector and in Government,” he said.

Cobra Stars and Rockers in 1-1 draw The MMK Funeral Services League rookies, Cobra Stars, rose to the occasion and held Rockers FC to a 1-1 draw in their MMK Funeral Services League match at the Makwarela Stadium on Sunday. The absence of Tsumbedzo “Zoo” Manamela in the Rockers' defence was evident from the onset as the Stars were doing as they pleased within the territory of Rockers. Cobra Stars threatened to score in the 14th minute. Their left winger, Asiashu Nemavhola, went loose from the left corner and unleashed from close range. The ball hit the side netting and landed outside the field of play for a goal kick. Ntsieni Nengovhela of Rockers was booked for a late tackle on Mukovhe Maphangwa in the 19th minute. Cobra Stars were the first to introduce a new face to their starting line-up. They replaced Khuthadzo Mashau with Ndamulelo Ravhura in the 27th minute. No goal was seen during the first 45 minutes, despite numerous attempts by both sides. Rockers effected the first change to their starting 11 three minutes into the last half. They introduced Dakalo Tshisikule and sacrificed Hulisani Thanyani, who was looking weary from the start. Thanyani’s introduction was not good enough to stop Cobra Stars from taking the lead in the 64th minute. Ndamulelo Ravhura hooked in the ball after a scramble within the box. Mukondeleli Tshivhula of Rockers was also reprimanded with a card for a continued argument with the referee. Rockers found the equalizer in the 74th minute. Rotondwa Kutame finished off a square pass from Unarine Kudzingana. Tshifhiwa Ramaphosa of Rockers and Ntsieni Muvhango of Cobra Stars were given their marching orders for exchanging blows on the playing field. The game came to a halt for about ten minutes after the fans of Rockers started to throw different objects onto the pitch. The situation later calmed down and the game continued as if nothing had happened.

New boxing sensation promises fireworks

“Mother love is the closest parallel to pure love or compassion that an ordinary person can understand. By meditating on the kindness of mothers, we may start to have some understanding of what genuine, selfless love is all about. Kindness of the mother extends from conception until death.” These were the words of Rev Mulalo Nedzamba, one of the main speakers during an event in honour of Granny Sarah Thina Phaswana at Makhado (Biaba) a week ago. “Love is a word that people often speak, sing or write about, but it is not always an easy word to define or an easy thing to apply in daily life,” said Dr Ntavhanyeni Phaswana (eldest son of Granny Sarah). According to him, the Thanksgiving Party would not have reached its magnitude if it was not attended by granny Sarah’s fellow congregants from Gauteng, Vhembe District and Zimbabwe. One of the spiritual leaders of the Apostolic Faith Mission of Africa, Mutshumaili Vho-Philemon Mpfuni, together with the dean of Devhula Lebowa Circuit, the Very Reverend Dean Alunamutwe Randitsheni, were very impressed that such a big function was held for a retired senior citizen when she was still alive. According to Mutshumaili Vho Mpfuni, the function came at the right time as the country was celebrating its heritage. Mrs Angie’tjie Phaswana concluded that it is imperative for our nation to care for and love elderly people. In our photo are, from left to right, Dr Ntavhanyeni Phaswana, Dean Alunamutwe Randitsheni, Mrs Sarah Phaswana, Rev Mulalo Nedzamba and Mrs Angie’tjie Phaswana. Photo supplied.

Arson suspects free Five suspects, who were charged with arson for allegedly setting alight a rondavel of the Tshabalala family at Kuruleni outside Mashamba area earlier this year, were acquitted last Thursday. The trial was finalised at the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court. The five accused are Messrs Samuel Riveli, Brian Riveli, William Pataka, Edward Gija and Ms Nomsa Chauke. Mr Brian Riveli said the community was calm and they welcomed the court ruling. He added that since the family of Charles Tshabalala (28) was evicted from the village by the community, the situation was calm. “There is no crime here anymore,” he said. Tshabalala is in custody, facing charges of rape, housebreaking, assault and robbery. His family had been staying at the Levubu police station since they were evicted from the village early last month. “We did not mean to hurt anyone” After remaining tightlipped about the matter future of Connor, Thidiela said that “we will see for two solid weeks, the chairman of Black that when he comes back”. The Irishman joined Leopards, Mr David Thidiela, has finally cleared Leopards early this season, but could not sit on the air by revealing their position regarding the team’s technical bench as a result of problems the future of the team’s head coach, Mr Sean relating to his work permit. Connor, and his assistants, Mr Solly Luvhengo and Ashwin Sutton, at the club. According to Thidiela, the team’s poor performance in their first four matches was not only a worrying factor to the management, but it was also a thorn in the flesh of the players as well. He stated that after their 0-2 defeat at the hands of Witbank Spurs in Witbank three weeks ago, the players requested the management to relieve the two assistant coaches for one match and give them a chance to be on their own in the match against Baroka FC. He said that he had to succumb to the players’ request as the results were not positive. With one of the players, Mongezi Bobe, giving instructions from the technical bench, Leopards Joel Masutha. Mongezi Bobe. managed to beat Baroka 2-0 at the Thohoyandou Stadium two weeks ago. Thidiela said that tempted him to believe that there was something wrong with Luvhengo and Sutton’s coaching technique, as the team registered the first victory in their absence. He reiterated the fact that it then prompted him to ask the two assistant coaches to relinquish power last week. According to him, the whole move was not meant to hurt anyone, but only to save the situation. He said the team was on the brink of a catastrophe under their guidance. “Unfortunately, some people had to lose their jobs while we were trying to save the situation, but the move was not meant to hurt anyone,” he said. Luvhengo confirmed to Limpopo Mirror that he and Black Leopards had parted ways harmoniously, but we couldn’t get any reaction from Sutton. His phone is always on voicemail and he didn’t The two former assitant coaches of Leopards, answer his calls. Black Leopards found their rhythm on Saturday afternoon when they beat Vasco da Gama 2-0 in their NFD match at the Parow Park Stadium in Cape Town. It is Leopards’ second successive victory against Vasco at the same venue. Vasco lost 1-4 to the Thohoyandou side last season. Black Leopards approached the game like a house on fire, with their strikers, Leonard Ntshangase and Sanele Mkize, keeping the Vasco defence running for cover. Although the visitors missed a fortune in the 19th minute, they did not lose their original fighting spirit. They were awarded a penalty after Sanele Mkhize was brought down within the box. Leonard Ntshangase caused an upset by shooting straight to the keeper, who easily saved the ground cutter. Jacob Mokhasi, the Leopards’ keeper, was made to work in the 29th minute. He stretched to the limit to execute a brilliant save after David Stevens unleashed a half volley from inside the box. Black Leopards were more organized in the midfield in the last half. Realizing that their scoring chances were slim, the home side started to play defensive football. They soon ran out of luck when Lidoda Duvha opened their account through Karabo Tsepe in the 65th minute. Tsepe blasted in a rocket after a precooked pass from Marks Munyai. Vasco threat-
