The couple were allegedly attacked by their son, following an argument on Monday morning. Mr Harry Mudau (59), better known as “Touch” Mudau, was a teacher at Gwamasenga High. He died on the scene, while his wife was admitted to the Tshilidzini Hospital where she was treated. She was discharged on Tuesday. According to the spokesperson for the Levubu police, W/O Solly Mukhola, the 21-year-old son of the deceased allegedly argued with his father on the day of the incident. The son allegedly told his father to leave the house and refused to obey the father. He allegedly later grabbed a panga and started chasing his father out of the house. It is alleged that his father tripped and fell in the yard outside and the young man hacked him with the panga. When the mother tried to intervene, she was also hacked with the panga. W/O Mukhola confirmed that a murder case was opened. “We managed to arrest the 21-year-old suspect and have charged him with murder and attempted murder. Our

investigations are still continuing,” said Mukhola. “We are pleading with families who are experiencing problems to visit pastors, counsellors and social workers and not to try to solve their problems on their own,” he said. Mukhola condemned the continuous family tragedies which have caused so much sadness in the community the past few months. On Tuesday, Limpopo Mirror paid the family a visit at Ha-Mutsha. The mood was sombre, with relatives of the deceased in visible grief. The brother of the deceased, Mr John Mudau, said the incident had shocked the family. “I am saddened and I am in a state of shock. I do not have any idea as to what could have happened,” he said. The chairperson of Munna Ndi Nnyi, Mr Badwell Mufunwaini, voiced his concern about the continuing onslaught on people. He openly condemned the brutal murder. According to him, the community is suffering from a scourge of crime. The principal of Gwamasenga High, Mr Aifheli Dombo, said the incident had left many learners traumatised and it would take a long time

and specialised counselling for them to recover fully. “We are able to cope with the situation because of your support, and we really appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts,” he told pastor Maxwell Masakona, who visited the school on Tuesday to support learners and teachers. Mr Dombo described Mudau as a hard worker and good teacher who was loved by all the learners at the school. He said that as a school they had lost a pillar who had obtained a 100% pass rate in Grade 12 English every year. Mudau will be buried tomorrow at Ha-Mutsha. He leaves behind his wife and three children. The suspect appeared in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Murder suspect may have taken own life by jumping in front of train at Bela-Bela A fourth-year student nurse suspected of killing a 25-yearold woman at the Giyani Nursing College may have committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train near Bela-Bela in Limpopo. The body of the 29-year-old Chuene Mosethi, a nursing student at Giyani, was found by the police in Bela Bela. He was wanted in connection with the death of Twanano Bilankulu (25) of Giyani section F. The

decomposed body of Bilankulu was found after students alerted the authorities to the fact that a foul smell was coming from a locked room. After investigations, the body was discovered in a student’s room under the bed. Bilankulu was not a student, but the police are investigating the possibility that she was Mosethi’s girlfriend. According to the police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, the body of the woman was found with an open wound. Otto said

the suspect was from Mahwelereng and it seems as if he had fled the area to hide in Gauteng. A student at the Giyani Nursing College, Victor Molegwa, said the suspect was a quiet person who didn’t talk a lot and never seemed to pose a danger to anyone. “We are shocked by what had happened on our campus and I would like to encourage other students to speak out if they are having problems, especially with their girlfriends,” said Molegwa.

To help motivate and empower disabled people in the Makhado region, the Makhado municipality held a disability-awareness campaign last Friday. Municipal delegates and several councillors visited disabled people at the Grace Missionary Chapel in Dzanani Township at Nzhelele. MEC Ramadwa opens Nancefield library

Midoroni clinic project nears completion Kutama residents will soon have the new Midoroni clinic staffed and open for service, said the spokesperson for the Department of Health, Ms Adele van der Linde on Tuesday. The multi-million-rand project was completed last year but couldn’t be officially opened due to financial constraints. “We will activate (the clinic) this new financial year as staff were needed at the already completed clinic and could not be appointed due to financial constraints,” said Van der Linde. In November 2012, residents expressed their anger and frustration at the lack of progress with the construction of two clinic buildings, namely those at Midoroni and Kutama. The projects were supposed to be

finished around mid-2012. While there is seemingly good news about the expected staffing and opening of the Midoroni clinic, the department is yet to find a contractor to resume the work which the previous contractor abandoned at the site of the Kutama clinic. The R9.4 million project at the Kutama clinic was awarded for building the clinic and upgrading the staff housing complex. The contractor failed to complete the project by the set date and was given an extension of 81 days, pushing the project completion date to 2 March 2012. Van der Linde confirmed that project will continue and the renovations will be completed as soon as a new contractor has been appointed. The chairperson of the Kutama clinic committee, Ms Mok-

gadi Ralidzhivha, welcomed the news. “People travel many kilometres to reach other, distant clinics when they feel that the services they are getting at the Kutama clinic are not enough. Even our nurses are working under difficult conditions, due to unfinished blocks at the clinic.” The Kutama Traditional Council’s spokesperson, Vhamusanda Vho-Ntanganedzeni Kutama, said the communities had been looking forward to the completion and opening of both clinics. “We are very glad after the government built us the two clinics and further urge the Department of Health to complete the two projects, so that the residents can get medical assistance at these clinic,” Vho-Kutama said.

Multitudes of jubilant community members bore witness as the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Miriam Ramadwa, officially opened the Musina Nancefield Community Library last Thursday. The total project value for the building is R2.8 million. The state-of-the-art library consists of a circulation area where thousands of books and other material are kept. There is also an audiovisual room, a cataloguing section, an informal reading area, children’s library activity room, a spacious reading area, ablution facilities, access control area and a kitchen. The building is also user-friendly to the disabled. MEC Ramadwa said the building and opening of the library was a demonstration of the good

working relationship between the local and provincial government. She said libraries played a very important role in promoting the progress of knowledge. “Individuals can’t afford to buy books on their own because the prices are very high. Even those who are better off can’t afford to buy all the books they require for their studies. Books are man’s best friends. They give him company equally in times of happiness as well as in times of distress. They are one of the main sources of knowledge. The best place for easy access to books is a library.” Ramadwa added that some students found it very difficult to do their studies at their homes, for various reasons. “The library will be an asset to the learners who will be able to prepare for

their examinations with ease. The ambience, peaceful and scholarly atmosphere will help them to concentrate more on their school work. Libraries will always be there to indicate the presence of a well-read and educated society.” She said the government was doing its best to make sure that all services were brought closer to the people. “We have a good story to tell after 20 years of freedom. We will continue to do so to make sure that each one of us fully enjoys the fruits of our hard-earned freedom.” Lydia Banda, a jubilant grade eight learner of Musina High School, said: “I’m very happy that we will be able to use the library at our doorstep. We thank all involved and there is no doubt that the library will continue to promote literacy in our area.”

Univen campus quiet after week of turmoil The situation at the University of Venda is back to normal. This follows after a week of turmoil during which angry students barricaded the entrance to the campus and prevented staff and management from going to work. The students were angered by the death of a fellow-student who was waiting for an ambulance at the campus clinic last week Monday. The student apparently fell sick, but had to wait for a long time for an ambulance to take her to the local hospital. From what could be established there was only one paramedic on duty and he had to take another sick student to the hospital. News of her death spread like wildfire on campus and ignited the fury of the students who gathered at the main gate on Tuesday. They allegedly demanded that the emergency services on campus be improved and blamed it for the student’s death. The situation remained tense the whole day. The university became a no-go area, with the main road leading to the main gate being barricaded by huge rocks and other big objects. Late on Tuesday afternoon, the management tried in vain to address the angry students. Some student leaders wanted to hand over a memorandum of their grievances to the management. A journalist from Limpopo Mirror, Elmon Tshikhudo, became a casualty

of the protest when angry students wrestled his camera and notebook from him and destroyed them. It was not clear why the students vented their anger on a member of the media. The journalist was also manhandled and pelted with stones. Tshikhudo was later whisked away to safety by some concerned members of the community. Attempts to get comments from the SRC president, Uhuru Mofokeng, were unsuccessful. Mirror visited the campus on Monday to asses the situation. Classes were continuing and students said they were happy to be back. “We have lost plenty schooling time and we do not even know if we will be able to catch up with the lectures, but it was for a worthy cause, “ said Muvhusi Lumadi, an environmental sciences student. Univen spokesperson Mr Takalani Dzaga said they had held several meetings with the leadership of the students. “We have agreed with the leadership of the students that we have to beef up our emergency services.” Thohoyandou police spokesperson Constable Avhafarei Tshiovhe said they had opened an inquest in respect of the dead student. She said they were monitoring the situation and that it was under control. Tshikhudo has since laid charges with the police.

Old man killed at graveyard Members of the community of Ndzumeri village outside Giyani in Limpopo have stoned to death an old man in a cemetery, shortly after burying another young man. On Sunday, Elias Bakisi Nkuna (70) attended the funeral of the 22-year-old Thulani Vhuma. Vhuma died after a short illness. The grandfather was not aware of the fact that some of the community members were accusing him of practising witchcraft. According to a family member who refused to be named, the old man was responsible for killing Vhuma. She said Vhuma died after visiting Nkuna at his home in Daniel Rabalele, which is not far from his own village, Ndzumeri. She said the mourners planned to kill Nkuna after the burial because they accused him of being responsible for many of the deaths in the area. Another resident, Daniel Hombyana, said the killing shows the

levels of hate in the community. He also accused the family of encouraging members of the public to kill Nkuna. “It is very sad to see old people nowadays being targeted as witches, and if the government does not act, all elderly people will be killed for nothing,” he said. Nkuna was killed in full view of the hundreds of mourners. Afterwards, the attackers allegedly tried to bury the old man in a shallow grave. The murder of the old man follows two months after a 62-yearold granny was burned to death in Ximawusa and another 79-year-old grandfather was burned to death in Rotterdam Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto said the police despatched a team to investigate the murder, but at the time of going to press, no one had been arrested. Col Otto believes that suspects will be arrested soon. She has appealed to members of the public not to take the law into their own hands.

Is Phalama SA’s worst smelling village?

The unbearable stench is the order of the day for pupils who pass near the plant.

Entering the remote rural village of Phalama outside Tshilamba in the Mutale area is like entering a fully opened pit toilet. The stench of fresh faeces, mixed with the sound of big mosquitoes, is what greets a person when entering the village. This is all because of an unattended sewage dam just on the doorstep of the houses, in the middle of the old sites and the RDP houses not far from the village. More sites are envisaged to be demarcated, which means the residents will have to bear the big, nauseating stink and to endure untold suffering for as long as it is still there Resident spokesperson and civic leader Mr Thiathu Tuwani said life had not been easy in the village. “This dam was built in the early 90s, and our understanding at that time was that it was there as a temporary measure and that it would be moved to a more suitable place. We have waited and waited for it to be moved, but nothing has happened since 1996. We are worried that nothing they had promised will happen,” he said.

He said they were told that the dam would be fenced and that there would be workers who would look after the dam, but this did not happen. “Children are at risk of losing their lives and falling ill as they sometimes swim there, not knowing what it is. Our cattle drink this stinking sewage and there are lots of mosquitoes when dusk comes. Recently, many children fell sick and had to be taken to hospital because of the mosquitoes from the dam. The worst part is the stink that is making life unbearable for the residents,” he said. Tuwani said they had made representations to the government and also to the Presidency, with no positive response. “The only language the government understands is when we take to the streets. We are organizing the mother of all marches ever seen here in Mutale and we are inviting all to support us in this endeavour, be it political parties or human rights organisations; all are welcome,” added Tuwani. Vhembe District Municipality spokesperson Mr Matodzi Ralushai said he was aware of the problem and that the municipality was in constant talks with the community. He said the dam had been built long before people had settled there and that, because of development, people were moving closer to the plant. “We are a government by the same people and we have an open-door policy. Sooner rather than later, together with the community, we will find a solution to the problem,” he said.

Tshikota resident lost faith in Council’s sweet promises amidst a river of faeces “Our troubles know no end. This sewer has been affecting us for the past two years and some months now. Our municipality is not being helpful.” A resident of Tshikota, Ms Sophie Ndou, said those painful words when Limpopo Mirror visited her home at house number 1216 on 3 April. So when water comes after three or four days, the sewage from other homes pushes up in my toilet and fills my house.” Ndou told Limpopo Mirror this Tuesday that she had hired labour to totally remove the toilet as it was causing her a lot of problems. “We are using a bucket now,” she said. “When it is full, we just empty the contents in the river of faeces.” At some stage last year, municipal workers who had come to fix the dysfunctional sewerage system were said to have told the affected family to move to any of the nearby villages if they thought the sewage was problematic to them. The municipal-

aity’s spokesperson, Mr Louis Bobodi, subsequently responded that whoever suggested that the family should relocate was not speaking on the municipality’s behalf and “was out of order”. “I am confused now,” Ndou said. “This lack of service delivery tells me to open the eyes of my mind and vote for change on 7 May. It’s hard for us in Tshikota.” The spokesperson for Vhembe District Municipality, Mr Matodzi Ralushai, confirmed that the sewerage system falls under their jurisdiction. “We are not aware that there is such a problem where sewerage systems are fixed today and the next day the same problem reoccurs,” he said. “We will look into this matter and get back to you with a response.”

Some two years ago: Young Funi visited Tshikota and regretted ever coming. She said she would never visit her aunt in Tshikota again because her aunt´s house smelt of faeces.

JAH SOLDIERS dedicates CD to God Local star to perform in the USA The Vhembe based Rastafarian solo-artist, Tendani Maiwashe, better known as Jah Soldiers urged his followers to worship and respect God in what they are doing, because with God everything good is possible. Maiwashe (34) from Mbilwi-Makanga outside Thohoyandou has recently released an album, Nndededze, loosely meaning Guide me. According to him, the message of the album is that the community must trust God to guide them through their lives. The album has nine tracks, with Pfunzo ndi ifa, Nndila ndi nthinhi and She wanna see me gone among the favourites. “We know about God while we are young. As we get older, we tend to forget about Him and how important He should be in our lives. We should not try to run away from the reality that God is still in control of our lives, hence the title track, Nndededze,” he added. Nndededze is his third album. In 2006 his debut album was named Thavha ndi nngana? and in 2010 he recorded the album Innocent Siblings. He added that people should emulate what they have read in the Bible about Daniel, Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego, who received the grace from God to face the powers of the devil without

A local talented gospel artist, Takie Ndou, will be performing in the USA in July. He will showcase his talent for about a month in that country. Ndou (30), a multi-awardwinning artist, will also be performing in Nigeria before the end of April. He says he is not nervous about the challenge and exposure he will be facing. “I have been to Germany, Botswana, Lesotho, Rwanda and Swaziland before. This is just an extension of my experience of performing on the global stage,” says Ndou, who was born at Ha-Mutsha. He and his four siblings, two elder brothers and two younger sisters, were raised by their single mother, Agrinett Ndou. His father passed away in 1998, when he was 15 years old. He started his career in music in 2004 after he quit his fulltime job in the IT industry. He released his first album, Masimudumise, in the same year. The

album sold more than 15 000 copies and he released another gospel hit, Unkhumbule, in 2005. In 2006, Ndou released a duet album, I’m going home, with his friend, Rofhiwa Manyaga. They released three albums before they decided to go solo again in April last year, when Ndou released his latest album, The Psalmist. The Psalmist is his biggest success up to date and won five awards last year: album of the year (Metro Awards), artist of the year, song of the year and best album of the year (Ingoma Awards) and best

collaboration (Crown Gospel Awards). He attributes his success to his commitment to music and the grace of God. Ndou says he wants to continue producing good music, “even when I am over 50, like my role model Benjamin Dube.” He is now based in Johannesburg where he is involved in music full-time. He believes he is succeeding because he is running his music professionally by working with a team of specialists at the Bold Music Company. “Our local artists do not succeed because they want to do things on their own. I am advising all to rope in managers and producers, so that they can take their music to another level,” says Ndou, who is also studying music in Johannesburg.

MEC Magadzi drops in on two rural schools The MEC for Education in Limpopo, Ms Dikeledi Magadzi, visited two schools in Vhembe to monitor the infrastructure and find out more about the challenges facing rural schools. Magadzi, accompanied by a representative of the Engen petroleum company, Ms Thandi Manqana, paid a visit to the Valdezia Higher Primary School and the Shihlobyeni Primary School in Lemana, Elim, last Thursday. “We needed to see the state of the infrastructure in schools and not just read about the schools’ reports from the district offices,” Magadzi said. She indicated that

the other reason for her visit to those primary schools was to urge teachers to work harder, so that learners could pass at the end of each term. “I once visited a high school and teachers complained that there were learners who couldn’t express themselves, both verbally and in written form,” she said. Magadzi added that the teachers in high schools complained that they were now doing double work – teaching learners how to read and write while they should have been continuing with syllabi. Shihlobyeni Primary School’s principal, Mr Nyiko Maluleke,

informed the MEC about the lack of a working borehole and a kitchen at the school. Magadzi noted down the challenge the school is facing and promised to look into it. “We are happy to have you here in our school,” Maluleke told Magadzi. Laws, regulations and other decision-making processes regularly require public meetings and comment on municipal actions. This became evident when representatives from different community structures recently converged at the Musina Nancefield municipal boardroom to make inputs into the service delivery and budget implementation plan (SDBIP) of the Musina Municipality. The meeting looked at the quarterly report of the Musina Municipality and the 2014/15 SDBIP. It was truly a joint effort as community members, councilors and municipal officials jointly discussed ways of intensifying service delivery within the municipal area. Mayor Carol Phiri said the municipality was required to structure and manage its administration, budgeting and planning processes. “It is important to give priority to the basic needs of the community and to promote the social and economic development of the community and also participate in national and provincial development programmes. This will also help us to look at the development of objectives and priorities for our people, including our local economic development aims.” Phiri said there was also a need to scrutinize the development of strategies aligned with national or provincial sectoral plans and planning requirements binding on the municipality. “The municipality always includes its stakeholders when taking decisions to ensure a smooth link between planning and delivery through a detailed and concrete project-design process. This gives sector specialists their appropriate role in the process, thereby contributing to a smooth planning implementation link.” She encouraged community members to participate in all municipal meetings to make sure that they are part of the planning and implementation processes.

Real Aces crush Tshakhuma FC Tshivhulana Real Aces fought hard to earn their 4-2 victory over Tshakhuma na ndilani FC in the final of the Vho-Makhadzi Funerals Soccer Challenge held at the Vuwani Mandani grounds on Saturday. Godfrey Mudau, Aces’ lethal striker who scored a brace in the match, was a thorn in the flesh of the defense of Tshakhuma. Aces took the lead in the 18th minute. Godfrey Mudau went loose from the right corner and unleashed a powerful ground cutter from the edge of the box. The keeper of Tshakhuma watched helplessly as the ball hit the back of the net. Andani Ramulayo of Tshakhuma was reprimanded with a card, following a continued argument with the referee in the 24th minute. Tshakhuma were awarded a free kick just outside the box three minutes later. Andani Ramulayo blasted in a rocket from the set piece to bring the half-time score to 1-1. Aces reclaimed their leadership six minutes into the last half. It was Godfrey Mudau who made things happen once more. This time around, he gave the ball the final touch after a scramble within the box. The goal was an insult to the players of Tshakhuma. They retaliated within a short space of time. A total of 134 teams which are affiliated to the Thulamela Local Football Association will take part in the competition. The champions for the competition will receive a cash prize of R15 000, soccer kit, gold medals and a floating trophy. The runners-up will take home a cash prize of R5 000, soccer kit and silver medals. The third- and fourth-placed teams will win cash prizes of R3 000 and R2 000 respectively, apart from the soccer kit which they will be presented with. Teams booted out of the competition in the quarterfinal stage will each go home with a consolation prize of R1 000. The final will be staged at the Makonde Stadium on Monday, June 16. Phaphazela Real Hexagon are the defending champions.

XI Bullets too strong for Young Rovers In their losers’ final match for the Vho-Makhadzi Funerals Soccer Challenge at the Vuwai Mandani grounds on Saturday, Tshirululuni XI Bullets showed Mission Young Rovers no mercy when they crushed them 2-0 to finish the competition in third place. XI Bullets approached the game aggressively, with their strikers showing a huge appetite

for goals. Realizing that it was difficult for them to match their opponents, Young Rovers started to frustrate them with their rough tackles. They did not get far with their wrongdoings as the referee, Mr NP Netshiombo, warned two of them with cards in quick succession. Shudufhadzo Dzhuguda was the first one to go into the referee’s book. He tackled Kolani Makumbe

from behind and the referee was lenient enough not to give him his marching orders. The wheel of fortune turned against Young Rovers in the 28th minute. Bullets were awarded a corner kick that was taken by Venson Mathatha. Patrick Mudau scored with a header after a mix-up within the penalty area. As if they were the leading side, Young Rovers started to demonstrate their delaying tactics. The situation returned to normal after their midfielder, Valley Tshishonge, was warned with a card for wasting time. Young Rovers started to play like a team towards the end of the first half, but it was difficult for them to find the net. Bullets continued to enjoy more ball possession in the last half. Their efforts did not pass without reward as Willie Makumbe scored their second goal in the 64th minute. Benny’s aiming to win Kay Motsepe Cup The 2014 Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup, the biggest U/19 schools soccer tournament in Africa, is about to get underway, with the schools involved vying for some serious prize money. The tournament is now in its 10th year and the funds that will be allocated to the winning schools at provincial and national level are a whopping R3.4 million. All the prize money must be used to fund projects identified by the school that will enhance their pupils’ learning experience and help the community they are

located in. Last year’s Limpopo champions, who ended in sixth position in the national championship, Benny’s Care Sports Academy, will be spending their R100 000 winnings on furniture and computers. Registration for this year’s competition closed at the end of March and the organisers, the South African Schools Football Association (SASFA), are busy drawing up the fixtures for the games at cluster level. Once those matches have been played, the winners will go through to the

regional playoffs, followed by the provincial championships, with the top two schools from each province going through to the national championships. According to Shawn Bishop from the Mamelodi Sundowns Academy, who represents Sundowns boss Patrice Motsepe, this year several development coaches will be attending the provincial finals to scout for talent. The coach of Benny’s Care, Justice Matloga, promised that they were going to win the tournament this year and bring the silverware to Limpopo.

After receiving a complete soccer kit from a local businessman, Mr Apie Saayman, early last month, Tshakhuma na ndilani Football has reason to rejoice once again. This follows the decision by the management of the Levubu outlet of Galito’s Flame Grilled Chicken to sponsor the team. The ceremony during which the sponsorship was officially launched was held at the outlet last Friday evening. During the ceremony, the manager of the outlet, Mr Patrick Maruma, handed over a complete soccer kit valued at R56 000 to the captain of the team, Lushaka Monobe. During an interview with Mr Maruma shortly after the ceremony, he indicated that when the management of the team approached them for sponsorship two months ago, they did not give the proposal a second thought. Mr Maruma stated that, as a company, they felt obliged to assist the government in its efforts to fight crime, hence their decision to take the children off the streets through sponsorship. He said the company was looking forward to seeing the team produce players that will feature in the national team in coming years. When receiving the kit, team captain Lushaka Monobe said that the sponsorship would serve as a motivating factor to the players. He revealed that the club was formed three months ago and affiliated to the Makhado Local Football Association a month later.

According to Monobe, the team did not have a soccer kit at the time that they joined the league. “We used to borrow soccer kits from other local teams during our first league matches, until Mr Saayman came to our rescue early last month,” said Monobe. Tshakhuma na ndilani managed to reach the final of the prestigious Vho-Makhadzi Soccer Challenge, despite the fact that the team was formed only three months ago. They lost 2-4 to Tshivhulana Real Aces in the final at the Vuwani Mandani grounds last Saturday.

The clearing of power lines from encroaching vegetation is in terms with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act 85 of 1993) through its Electrical Machinery Regulations, Section 15.1 to 15.4, Clearances of Power Lines, as well as the approved Policy on Bush Clearing, 2011 (Council Resolution A.62.27.10.11) and all internal practices, procedures, specifications and standards. The minimum servitude and building restrictions close to or under a bear low voltage power line in urban town areas is 3m from the centre of the power line. All high risk vegetation is excluded from this and shall be removed. The minimum safety clearance of the overhead conductors of 3m shall be maintained. The vegetation clearing is aimed at improving the quality of the supply and services as well as to maintain street lighting and so promote the general security of residents through street lighting.

Real Aces are the Vho-Makhadzi champs Tshivhulana Real Aces were crowned the 2014 champions of the Vho-Makhadzi Soccer Challenge during a ceremony held at the Vuwani Mandani grounds last Saturday. This followed after the team managed to beat Tshakhuma na ndilani FC 4-2 in the final. Mission Young Rovers lost 0-2 to Tshirululuni XI Bullets in their losers’ final match, which was also played at the same venue earlier that afternoon. Real Aces became R3 000 richer, apart from the gold medals and floating trophy they were presented with during the ceremony. Tshakhuma na ndilani FC received R2 500 and silver medals. Tshirululuni XI Bullets, who obtained the third place in the competition, were presented with R2 000. The fourth-placed side, Mission Young Rovers, took home a cash prize of R1 150. During the ceremony, the managing director of sponsoring company Vho-Makhadzi Funeral Services, Mrs TL Kanakana, described the sponsorship as the beginning of a long-lasting relationship between her company and the Makhado Local Football Association. According to her, the sponsorship is one of the company’s many ways to plough back into the

community. Mrs Kanakana further revealed that the sponsorship will increase from time to time, depending on the financial standing of the company. During the ceremony, the president of the SAFA Vhembe Regional Football Association, Mr George Kubayi, praised the management of the company for the decision to channel a fraction

of their profit towards the development of local football. At the same time, Mr Kubayi handed over a trophy and certificate to Mrs Kanakana as the association’s token of appreciation. Twenty-eight teams affiliated to the Makhado Local Football Association took part in the competition.

The game provided maximum entertainment from the word go, with both sides creating chances for their strikers. The visitors from Zamenkomste squandered an early chance when Tshanduko Nkhumeleni shot wide after finding a way through the opponents’ defence. Thabelo Mamafha put his team

ahead in the 8th minute when he beat the off-side trap and scored easily. Two Zamenkomste players, Baldwin Sinugo and Khakhu Tshiliga, were booked for dangerous tackles in the 18th and 24th minute respectively. The visiting side increased the score when the game was 28 minutes old. Mamafha headed home after a place kick that was taken by Khathutshelo Mukhumeni, to bring the half-time score to 2-0. Convincing victory for Joe’s Express After losing 0-2 to Blue Rocks at home two weeks ago, Joe’s Express made amends and beat Basel FC 5-2 at the Polokwane Noordelike Rugby Stadium on Sunday. Edwin “Cafu” Ramphabana, Ndivhuwo Ravhuhali, Thembisani Nevhulamba (2) and Dzivhuluwani Simba scored the five goals for Express, while Basel’s goals came via David Hlalele and Eric Skosana. Punch bags and gloves for local boxing clubs The standard of two boxing clubs in the Vhembe region is set to improve, following the donation of punching bags, gloves and other equipment by Limpopo Boxing Champions Promotions. The two boxing clubs, Sibasa Boxing Club and the Bone Crusher Boxing Club, received the equipment during an event held at the Gym 4 You buildings in Thohoyandou on Saturday. “It is necessary to motivate our local boxing clubs, so that they can develop our boxers to become champions. We have rare talent in

our province. Let us joins hands by supporting our local boxers,” said Mr Phatutshedzo Dongola of Limpopo Boxing Champions Promotions. Dongola said there was a huge need to develop both amateur and professional boxers in the province. “Some of the boxers around have shown a keen interest in the sport, but they don’t have equipment such as gloves and pads,” added Dongola. Mr Vincent Mulaudzi of the Sibasa Boxing Club said the donation would help the boxers to improve and to compete regularly with other boxers.

Chippa leading the race after beating Black Leopards Chippa United are almost sure of winning the National First Division League championship. They beat Black Leopards 1-0 at the Philipi Stadium in Cape Town last Friday evening. With only four league matches left before they wrap up their league activities, Chippa United are leading the pack with 54 points, 10 ahead of the second-placed Black Leopards. Chippa United now need just one win to gain automatic promotion to the Absa Premiership Division. Teams that will finish the league programme in the second and third places, together with the second-last team in the Premiership

division, will be engaged in the platinum play-offs at the end of the season. The best team in the play-offs will join the team that will have gained automatic promotion to the elite league. it comes to relegation. They collected more significant league points away from home last Saturday. They beat FC Cape Town 1-0 at the NNK Rugby Stadium and moved to the fourth-last position on the log. Things did not go according to plan for African Warriors. They lost 0-1 to Santos at the Charles Mopedi Stadium in the Free State. Roses United were too good for Blackburn Rovers, whom they thrashed 3-0 at the Kaizer Sebotlelo Stadium in the Free State. Maluti FET College lost 1-3 to United FC, while Milano United registered a 1-0 victory at the expense of Sivutsa Stars.
