Die ongeluk het omstreeks 23:00 op die Waterpoort/Alldays-pad plaasgevind. Vir veral haar suster, Rika Erasmus, het die nuus van Alicia se dood as groot skok gekom. Patrick stap om mense van Jesus se liefde te vertel Deur Andries van Zyl Wat baie mense seker sou beskou as onsinnig is die enigste ding wat die 60-jarige Patrick Styles van Koster in Noordwes in sy lewe as van waarde beskou ... om met sy kruis op sy skouers deur die lengte en breedte van Suid-Afrika te stap en mense te vertel van die Here se liefde. Patrick het die afgelope naweek in Louis Trichardt aangedoen onderweg na Musina. Hier het hy twee aande se welkome en gratis nagrus geniet by die Fouries se 139 on Munnik gastehuis. Sondagoggend het hy besoek afgelê by die NG Kerk Soutpansberg-gemeente en daar het hy gemeentelede bietjie meer vertel van sy omswerwinge. Patrick het vertel hoe hy homself in 2013 in ‘n badkamer bevind het en homself gevra het wat meer kan hy vir die Here doen? “Want Hy is elke dag net goed vir my,” het Patrick gesê. Dit was toe dat die Vader die woorde van Matteus 16:24-25 op sy hart gedruk het: “Toe sê Jesus vir sy dissipels: ‘As iemand agter My aan wil kom, moet hy homself verloën, sy kruis opneem en My volg, want wie sy lewe wil behou, sal dit verloor; maar wie sy lewe ter wille van My verloor, sal dit terugkry’.” “Dit is waar ek begin het,” het Patrick gesê. Tot op daardie stadium was hy vir 33 jaar in die mynbedryf. Sedertdien het hy al tussen 30 000 en 40 000 kilometer gestap. Maar Patrick doen dit nie vir geld of roem nie. “Toe ek begin loop het, het dit oor my gegaan. Wat EK gaan doen en wat EK wil doen. Maar die Here het die hoogmoed van my af weggevat,” het Patrick gesê. Hy vertrou elke dag 100% dat die Here sal voorsien en sy grootste begeerte is om mense van die Here se liefde te vertel. “Dit is baie belangrik om vir mense te sê dat die Here lief is vir hulle,” het Patrick gesê. Alhoewel hy letterlik duisende staaltjies het om te vertel van sy staptog, het hy twee verhale met Soutpansberg-gemeente gedeel oor die Here se liefde. “Ek het aan die Suidkus geloop op pad Transkei toe. Langs die pad kom ek op ‘n 13-jarige meisiekind af wat weggeloop het van die huis af. Ek het by haar gestop en gevra

of alles reg is? Sy het vir my gesê: ‘Nee’. Ek het by haar gaan sit en haar gevra wat gebeur het,” vertel Patrick. Sy het my egter geantwoord: ‘Jy ken nie my ma nie!’ Ek het toe vir haar gebid en gesê sy moet onthou dat die Here haar altyd sal liefhê. Ná dit het sy ingestem om terug te gaan na haar ma toe. Soos die Here dit beskik het, het daar ‘n ou oom en tannie op die pad ingedraai. Ek het hulle gestop en gevra om hulle die meisie ‘n geleentheid terug sal gee na haar huis toe. Maar ek weet daar is Iemand wat my lief het’. Dadelik was haar ma weer op haar perdjie en wou weet: ‘Wie op aarde sou lief wees vir jou?! Sy het haar ma geantwoord: ‘Daar is ‘n man wat met ‘n kruis loop en hy het gesê Jesus is lief vir my’,” het Patrick vertel. Net daar het die ma se hart versag en sy en haar dogter het dinge reggemaak. Hulle het tot vir Patrick langs die pad gaan kuier om vir hom dankie te sê. Tydens ‘n ander geleentheid, het Patrick vertel, dat hy een dag uit Bethlehem gestap het en ‘n BMW in die bos langs die pad sien staan het. Eers het hy niks daarvan gedink nie, maar iets het hom aangeraai om ondersoek te gaan instel. “Ek het my kruis neergesit en na die BMW gehardloop. Toe ek daar kom, sien ek die pyp in die uitlaatstelsel,” het hy gesê. Die motor was aangeskakel gewees. Patrick het die pyp uitgeruk

en kon daarin slaag om die motor se deur oop te kry. “Gelukkig was alles nog net in die beginstadium. Ek het die man uit die kar gehaal en hy het begin bykom. Hy het vir my gesê hy het baie seer. Toe sê ek vir hom hy moet onthou die Here is lief vir hom en het hom uniek geskape. Ons het toe saam gebid. Toe ek weer begin loop, het hy vir my gesê hy is reg en het my bedank dat ek daardie dag my kruis gedra het,” het Patrick vertel. Hy en die man, ‘n skatryk sakeman van Bethlehem, is tot vandag toe nog in kontak met mekaar en die man het intussen sy lewe vir Jesus gegee. Lesers sal dit dalk nie glo nie, maar Patrick is getroud. Op ‘n vraag oor wat sy vrou Desiré oor die stappery sê, was sy antwoord eenvoudig. “Sy bid saam met my. Ek moet noem dat sy al die jare gebid het dat as die Here vir haar ‘n man gee, die man die Here liewer moet hê as vir haar.

Ná sy aankoms in Musina gaan hy omdraai, net om via Durban tot in die Transkei te stap. ““As die Here wil, gaan ek weer daar omdraai, terug Durban toe, en dan Pretoria toe terug huis toe,” het Patrick gesê.

Hierdie week, 25 jaar gelede, het die hoofberig van die Zoutpansberger van 8 November 1996 gehandel oor plaaslike polisiesersant S. Geyer wat van poging tot moord aangekla is, nadat hy ‘n Zimbab wiese man in die boud geskiet het. Volgens die destydse polisieverslag het mnr. By nadere ondersoek het Botha opgemerk dat by sy perseel ingebreek is en die polisie is ontbied. Sers. Geyer het ongeveer twee ure later twee verdagte mans, wie se kleredrag ooreengestem het met die twee mans wat vroeër opgemerk is, in die omgewing gesien. Hy het die twee mans beveel om na hom toe te stap, waarop die een man, mnr. Titus Hobe (22), bly stilstaan het. Geyer het hom weer beveel om nader te kom, maar steeds het hy bly staan. Toe het Geyer drie of vier skote op hom geskiet en hom in die boud gewond. Geyer sou na bewering die ander man opgelaai en êrens in die dorp gaan aflaai het. Hobe het intussen die saak by sy werkgewer by Van der Merwe Saagmeule aangemeld. Alhoewel die voorval omstreek 12:00 plaasgevind het, het Geyer dit eers net voor 21:00 die aand gerapporteer. Waarom Geyer so lank geneem het om die saak te rapporteer, was nie in daardie stadium bekend nie.

Notice of application for an Environmental Authorisation and Water Use License Application for the proposed Venetia Mine Independent Power Producer Project PROJECT DESCRIPTION De Beers, as part of the Anglo American Group, proposes the development of a solar photovoltaic (PV) electricity-generating facility close to the Venetia Diamond Mine. The facility is intended to reduce the mine’s consumption of grid-supplied power by procuring locally and sustainably generated solar power. The majority of electricity generated by the proposed PV facility will be used solely by the Venetia Mine. This project requires Environmental Authorisation in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) and the NEMA Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations (GN R 982 of 2014), and the National Water Act, (Act No. 36 of 1998). Zutari (Pty) Ltd (previously, Aurecon) has been appointed as the Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to undertake the application for an Environmental Authorisation and Water Use License for this project. Run and Ride for Pets & Strava Challenge The SPCA Louis Trichardt will be hosting their annual Run and Ride for Pets in the Hanglip plantation on Saturday, 13 November, at 07:00. Entries will open at 06:00 at the forestry gates in Forestry Street, or you can enter before the race at Legacy Animal Clinic. You can choose one of four (4km, 8km, 13km, 22km) Hanglip trails to run or ride. This is an ideal event for the whole family and the entry fee is only R10, which will be donated to the SPCA. “In addition, the winners on each trail (1st cyclist and 1st runner) will not get a prize, but instead will be asked to donate R100 to the SPCA. As the world gropes for solutions to problems that plague mankind in terms of poverty, gender-based violence and corruption, among

others, a lasting solution seems to be elusive. But is mankind really doomed to a hopeless future? “South Africa will be one of the many countries and communities around the globe that will receive a powerful message of hope this November through a worldwide solution-oriented campaign that is aimed at instilling hope in many who are looking for lasting solutions to

To achieve this feat, a special edition of The Watchtower magazine, titled ‘A better world is near’, will be distributed worldwide, offering uplifting future solutions that will bring relief to a troubled humanity,” sid the Jehovah’s Witnesses in a press release. More than 36 million printed copies of the magazine will be distributed in some 230 languages to communities in 240 countries around the globe. In addition, the digital publication is available on various platforms in nearly 400 languages. Regarding the purpose of this campaign, the local spokesperson remarked: “People are longing to hear a positive message, and this is the best news possible,” said Mr Kobus van der Merwe and Mr Sam Mampho for Jehovah’s Witnesses. “A better world is not just a dream, it’s inevitable. In fact, it is a central part of Jesus’ gospel,” they said. The magazine addresses the age-old “doomsday” question, Is this world going to end? The Bible’s comforting answer may surprise many readers. “While some religions have predicted an ‘end of the world,’ the magazine reveals the Bible’s clear message: The earth is here forever and will never end! However, the magazine explains that the Bible promises an end to injustice by quoting from the book of Psalms, where it states that eventually wicked people will no longer plague the earth - Psalm 37:10,” stated the press release.

“This positive message has been the hope of millions around the world who have prayed for God’s Kingdom to come,” said Van der Merwe and Mampho. The Watchtower has been carrying the message about God’s Kingdom for more than 100 years and remains the most widely translated and circulated magazine in the world. The Louis Trichardt Tennis Club held their annual general meeting on 3 November, during which they also elected a new management team for 2022. Henk Beukes was elected as chairman, with Zander Vollgraaff taking up the role as vice-chairman. In charge of the finances and general administration will be Jo-anne Beukes

as treasurer and secretary, while Sam Maluleke, Louis Petersen, Andy Leach, Reuben Thomas and Tobie Lochner were elected as additional members. Maggie Kemp and Johan Pretorius will serve as junior members on the committee. “Best of luck to all the elected members,” said the club. They also expressed their gratitude towards outgoing members Sunita Pretorius and Candice Terrink for all the hard work they had done in the last couple of years.

Seshego clinches onewicket victory over LTT The Limpopo Impala Premier Cricket League has resumed, with Louis Trichardt’s first team coming up against Seshego at the Louis Trichardt Oval on Sunday, 7 November. Seshego gave Louis Trichardt a bit of an early wake-up call by clinching the game with one wicket to spare. Louis Trichardt batted first in an innings that saw four LBW dismissals against the home side. Opener Amir Bux Saif scored at almost a run a ball with 19 runs from 18 balls, while Hussain Patel, batting at number two, played a more stabilising roll, finishing one run short of his 50 with his score on 49 from 87 balls, before he was caught LBW. AJ Fourie at number three also tried to keep the scoreboard ticking over with 17 runs from 21 balls, but was also sent back to the dressing room because of an LBW decision. More bad news waited for the Louis Trichardt side when team captain and batting dangerman Dewald Joubert’s wicket fell with his score on zero after also being caught LBW. From there on, the remaining Louis Trichardt batsmen had a tough time, with (in order of the batting line-up) Sahil Patel scoring three from 11 balls, JP Coetzee 25 from 34 balls, Salman Patel out for a duck, Juan-Michael Phillips 26 from 23 balls, FC Phillipson 10 from 23 balls, Johan van Rooyen (out for a duck on another LBW decision) and Vimal Shah with two runs from eight balls. Louis Trichardt finished their innings on a score of 167/10 after 38.4 overs. Seshego’s bowling attack was on par with the bowlers, conceding only 16 extras, of which 15 were wides. Team captain Isaac Senetta took one wicket for 17 runs in seven overs. Seshego’s inning got off to a flying start, with opener en team captain Isaac Senetta scoring 29 off 33 balls, while fellow opener Tumelo Malatji scored 38 from 40 balls. The run rate slowed down a bit with Zidane Joosub in at three, scoring eight runs from 14 balls, while Stephen Mailula contributed 19 runs off 23 balls. Sawan Bobe was send packing with his score on zero after three balls, after which Asim Bha played cautiously for his 12 off 27 balls. Takudzwa Sithole, Kgoshi Leopeng and Lesego Moloto’s wickets fell cheaply for a combined nine runs, and leaving tailenders Selati Kgomo (12 off 22 balls) and Ashley Malebe (nine off 16 balls) to steer their team to victory. The team successfully chased the runs down, finishing on 169 for nine wickets in 32.4 overs. In contrast to Seshego’s 16 extras, the Louis Trichardt’s bowlers conceded 33 extras, which included 12 byes and 19 wides. But despite this and their loss, Louis Trichardt bowler JP Coetzee was in top form, claiming four wickets for the loss of only 17 runs in five overs, which included a maiden over. Sahil Patel and Dewald Joubert took two wickets each with respective bowling figures of two for 26 in six overs and two for 37 in eight overs. Although taking only one wicket, FC Phillipson’s bowling figures were very impressive - taking one wicket for the loss of one run in three overs, which included two maidens. That is an economy rate of 0,33! This coming Sunday, 14 November, Louis Trichardt will take on the PanSolution Eagles Cricket Club from Polokwane at the Louis Trichardt Oval.
