Munisipaliteit se nuwe waardasierol vir 2014 tot 2018 laat inwoners kopkrap oor hul eiendom se waarde

R2 miljoen

SBBV voorsitter mev.

betaal. Inwoners kan hul waardasies by die munisipaliteit uitvind of by die SBBV bestuurder, mnr. Phillip Olivier. Hunter joins SANParks official in courtroom The SANParks (South Africa National Parks) employee accused of selling protected animals illegally appeared in court together with a hunter. The pair appeared last Friday (7th) in the Louis Trichardt District Court. This employee, Michael Sematla, appeared with Marius Marinus Slabbert from Benoni. Slabbert was officially charged with the illegal shooting of a leopard on Den Staat farm next to the Mapungubwe Nature Reserve. The charges against Slabbert follow investiga tions that were done after it was discovered that Sematla had allegedly “sold” him a permit to hunt the leopard on Den Staat. Den Staat is an opensystem park, state owned and falling under the control of Mapungubwe, which is also a world heritage site. Both parks

border on Zimbabwe and boast a great variety of small and big game. Sematla worked as a general worker for Mapungubwe but was arrested during January 2014 when the Environmental Crime Investigative Unit (Green Scorpions) discovered his possible involvement in the issuing of illegal permits that were sold to hunters. Since Sematla’s arrest, 11 hunters had already been fined, and a total of R37 000 in admis sionofguilt fines have been paid. Each hunter’s fine was determined by the animal that he had hunt ed. They will not stand further trial with Sematla and Slabbert but might be asked to become state witnesses. During his last court appearance, Semat la’s case was postponed to 3 and 4 June, when it is expected to start. Slabbert’s case was postponed until 16 April for trial.

The Bridge Auto workshop in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) was awarded a second-place certificate for outstanding service management during the Ford Merit Club awards in the C-category workshops of South Africa. A large part of this award was based on client satisfaction. For the past four years, the workshop has managed to be nominated as finalists, but this is the first year that they managed to clinch a spot in the top three places. Workshop manager Mr Charl Haasbroek (kneeling in front right) thanked his team for their hard work and dedication. “Without them, this would obviously not have been possible,” he said.

Mnr.

in ‘n e-pos geskryf.

‘n Munisipale voertuig is afgeneem tydens onwettige rommelstorting. Foto verskaf.

Trading with sewage at their front door Imagine doing business with sewage running past your front door. This is exactly what some businesspeople in Eltivillas in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) had to stomach the past week. “It was horrible. We sell food and have clients who eat outside. liaised with the municipality, who eventually managed to stop the spillage before 13:00 on the same day. The strong and repugnant smell in Commercial Street had already been mentioned by a resident on AfriForum’s Facebook page on 25 February. “They sell fruit and vegetables along that road. How do the people working in that area stand it? I think it could be a health hazard. Please, is there anyone I can contact about fixing that s**t smell? This town seems to be going backwards very fast,” wrote Ms Lynne Novella. The media liaison officer of Vhembe District Municipality, Mr Moses Shibambu, said on the same page on 23 February that the techni cians were busy fixing sewage leaks “as there seem to be many

leakages.” Vhembe’s Makhado water services manager, Mr David Mukosi, confirmed this week that they had their hands full with sewage spills. “We have a problem with some of the contractors who worked on the streets in Eltivil las. They performed their duties, but did not communicate with us. While using their TLBs, they damaged some manhole covers and did damage on ground level. Some of the contractors came to lay other lines that are not connected to our lines. We are trying to rectify the lines one by one as sewage spills occur,” Mukosi said and added that they had not yet unblocked the whole sewerage system. “We also have problems in the industrial area,” Mukosi said.

On Friday, 7 March, sewage was running all along Commercial Street in Eltivillas.

Small bread tags can make a big difference

“Small bread tag - big difference!” has been the motto of Louis Trichardt Primary School since they joined the Bread Tags for Wheelchairs project. Last week their collection was enough to make a difference in someone’s life with a wheelchair. Bread Tags for Wheelchairs is a highly success ful project of the Polystyrene Packaging Council (PSPC) that is currently in its sixth year. The project encourages people all around the country to collect their bread tags which are then sold for recycling and the proceeds are used to purchase wheelchairs for people who are unable to afford them. Hundreds of lives have already been touched by the project. The moment has arrived that somebody in the local community’s life will also be touched. The school children have been collecting bread tags since 2011. “The aim of this project has been to hand over a wheelchair to someone within our own (community) who could not afford the R1 750 required to purchase a wheel chair. We found that 247.5 kilograms of bread tags were sufficient for one wheel chair. With the aid of a retired nursing sister, Chloe Eilertson, we were able to acquire a wheelchair,” says deputy principal Ms Irene Adendorff. The wheelchair was officially handed over to one of the directors of the Makhado Care Group, Ms Jernay McLeod, on 4 March. “The Makhado Care Group is an organization which is doing sterling work in our community in assisting cancer pa tients,” said Adendorff. The Makhado Care Group will decide on the use of the wheel chair. Bread tags are made from high-density polysty rene and industries pay for them in order to recycle them into coat hangers, outdoor furniture, skirtings, cornices and seedling trays. “We are definitely continuing with the collection of bread tags and encourage children to bring them to Ms Sussa Ehlers’ class. Louis Trichardt Primary School joined the Bread Tags for Wheelchairs project in 2011 and since then, the children had collected more than 200 kilograms of bread tags. Their collection had reached the point where it was enough to make a difference in someone’s life with a wheelchair. Ms Jernay McLeod (left), one of the directors of the Makhado Care Group, and deputy principal Ms Irene Adendorff are seen with the wheelchair that was presented to the care group on 4 March.

Road Safety

Be prepared for your journey Every year, thousands of motorists across South Africa set off on long, often exhausting journeys without adequate preparation of their vehicles or enough rest. In their rush to leave, they people often skimp on checking and preparing their vehicles adequately for the journey. Not surprisingly, this is often reflected in problems experienced during the departing trip. Estimates suggest that fatigue is a factor in up to 30% of fatal crashes and 15% of serious injury crashes. Driving, whether it’s a journey of 500 kilometres or it involves a long trek of over 1 000 kilometres, brings its

own set of challenges. Many drivers prefer to drive during the night-time to avoid driving in heavy traffic or during the heat of the day. About 40% of accidents occur at night. This is not surprising, as night-time driving decreases one’s driving abilities. S Planning the journey ahead – including rest and stop-over points – helps break it down into realistic, manageable drives that get you to your destination safely and relaxed. To help motorists plan for their journey, the following recommendations could be helpful: • Begin your journey well rested. Have a good night’s

sleep before you set off. • Respect your biorhythm. Depart at a time when your body is used to being awake and active. • Don’t drink any alcohol before departure. • Avoid any medication that may make you drowsy. • Avoid peak departure times. • Take regular breaks. Rest immediately when you feel signs of fatigue. Go for a short walk. • Avoid heat build-up in the car. Research has shown that high temperatures have the same effect as a blood alcohol level of 0.5. Cheeky little Sonic RS packs a big punch The new Chevrolet Sonic RS, with its sporty looks, will certainly appeal to those young at heart and with a need for speed. With pumpedup looks, a racing 1.4litre turbo petrol engine and highly tuned suspension, this hot hatch is a sports car that functions as a driver’s car. On that note, the Sonic’s engine pushes 103kW at 6 300 rpm and 200Nm from 2500 revs, which is mated to a sixspeed manual trans mission, offering a claimed 197km/h top speed and a comfortable sprint of 0100km/h in 9,5 seconds. Not enough to push you back in your seat, though still athletic enough for perfor manceminded buyers, the Sonic comes into the market at R225 300. In addition, the tuned exhaust system allows the performance to be heard as well, while still maintaining comfortable noise levels at all times. It is, however, not just excitement and sporty driving antics. Providing a balance is the ECO TEC engine that ensures a 6.6litre per 100km fuel consumption. Making sure the Sonic sticks to the road is its MacPherson strut design up front and multilink setup at the rear. The Sonic also features a lower ride height, with stiffer suspension and perfor mancetuned dampers to deliver a communica tive and firmyetcomfortable ride. In the looks department the Sonic rides on 17 inch alloy wheels, has an RSspecific grille and motorcycleinspired tail lights which give it that sporty look. Inside, the Chev Sonic is just as hot as it is on the outside.

The interior continues the sporty design with a jetblack theme, red accents abound in the leathercovered seats, a new threespoke steering wheel, aluminium pedals and unique instrument panel graphics. What is more, the Chevrolet’s advance MyLink infotainment system has made its debut in the Sonic RS, bring smartphone functionality to drivers. This system is an integration of the most popular and advanced infotainment func tions incorporated into an easytouse, attractive and effective interface which transforms the Sonic into a connected entertainment hub while on the move. MyLink is fitted as standard on the new Sonic RS and features as an optional extra on 2014 Sonic LS models. The highresolution, 7inch touch screen is perfectly integrated into the vehicle’s dashboard and features touchbutton controls, almost resembling a tablet. Bluetooth audio streaming with playlist customisation and full smartphone integration allows MyLink to stay connected and become an extension of your smartphone. Phonebooks and call lists can also be inte grated, courtesy of the smartdialing feature that makes calling not only easier but safer too. Since the Sonic’s launch in February, it is now also available at Imperial GM here in Makhado (Louis Trichardt). The new Toyota Corolla not only offers a sleek design, it is now more spacious than ever. (Photo: quickpic.co.za).

Toyota is back with 11th generation Corolla This week will see the launch of the all-new 11th generation Toyota Corolla at Werda Toyota in Makhado (Louis Trichardt). The new Toyota is roomy and refined – guar anteed to appeal to its traditional customer base as a more practical and refined sedan. Starting from just R214 900, the all new Corolla is style, comfort and performance that every family can afford. The new Corolla boasts a cuttingedge design, featuring an expressive face courtesy of its striking headlamp clusters that elegantly frame the sporty grille. In profile, the new Corolla’s flanks are pierced by a character link linking the top of the front wheel arch with the rear lamp cluster. All of the new models (Esteem, Prestige, Sprinter and Exclusive), apart from the entrylev el Esteem, come standard equipped with 16inch alloys. Overall, the premium build quality of the new design of the Corolla is highlighted by the minimal panel gaps befitting a luxury vehicle. The gap between fender and front door has been reduced as well as between front and rear doors and between rear door and quarter panel. Moving indoors, the design team also accepted the challenge to create an even more spacious interior. The Corolla has received a complete ly refurbished interior, featuring a stylishly redesigned cockpit and superior trim materials. There is a generous list of equipment, including leather upholstery as standard on all models bar the entrylevel Esteem grade. The display audio system with reverse monitor (rear camera) is

another class first – it is standard even on mid grade Prestige models. To attain more space inside the Corolla, the wheelbase was extended 100mm (compared to the outgoing model), and the additional length was allocated effectively for design enhancement and interior expansions. Additionally, the rear passenger room has been made more spacious and comfortable by, in part, moving back the rear seat hip point by 75mm, increasing rear seat leg room by 92mm, to a classleading 706mm. Boot capacity has also increased to 452 litres. At the heart of the Corolla is a fuelefficient and reliable engine. Prospective owners can choose from the pennywise 1.3, the solid performing 1.6, or the energetic 1.8litre petrol engines, all underpinned by Toyota’s hightech variablevalvetiming intelligent system. All versions also come standard with a sixspeed manual transmission. A Multidrive S automat ic transmission is available on the 1.6 and 1.8 models. A laudable fuel consumption (claimed) of just 6 l/100 km is attainable in the combined cycle. Another new addition to the Corolla range is the 1.4 turbo diesel engine, returning a fuel consumption of 4.5 l/100 km. When you consider Toyota’s legendary reliability, vast dealer network and standard five year/90 000 km service plan as well as competi tive pricing (from R214 900 to R283 900) there is no reason not to book a test drive today. Don’t forget tyre pressures

You’ve ticked all the right boxes when it comes to making sure that everything is seamlessly in place for that weekend away, but can you say the same for your tyres? The more worn your tyres, the less traction and grip you will have on the road, meaning your braking distance will increase and you are more likely to skid when driving in the rain. In fact, the legal tread depth limit in South Africa is a minimum of 1mm across the entire circumference of the tyre. If you are not sure wheth er your tyres are legal, ask a

wheel and tyre professional to point out the tread wear indica tors on your tyres. The right tyre pressure can also be the difference between life and death. Don’t assume the pressure is two bars. Each car comes with recommended pressures which you will find in the sill of the driver’s door or inside the fuel cap. Rather take the time to check these and make sure the pres sure is just right. Overinflated tyres erode quickly at their centre, while underinflated tyres wear on the outsides more quickly. Underinflated

tyres overheat easily and can cause tyre bursts notorious for road fatalities. Before you get on your way, also check that you have a spare tyre and that it is inflated to the right pressure, and has the right amount of tread – at least 1mm – for a safe journey. Staying in your lane is a basic rule, but neglecting the balancing and alignment of your wheels can make you lose your step. If your car is shak ing or pulling to one side while you are driving, you need to get your wheels balanced and aligned.

For the first time in many years the Makhado Municipality achieved a qualified audit opinion from the auditor general (AG) for its financial statements for the year ended June 2013. This is a step better than the disclaimers and adverse opinions of the previous years, but not yet the unqualified or so-called “clean” audit that the municipality is striving for. Some of the facts in the report that draw attention are the outstanding debt of the municipality that is more than R170m as a result of poor collection practices and irregular expenditure stated at above R47m. The achievement rate of 24% in terms of targets planned for is also not good news for the taxpayer. These facts, however, did not influence the AG in his opinion. Why not, would be the question? “It is important to understand that the auditor general’s report contains three sections which are, from the last to the first, Performance matters (legal and regulatory requirements), Emphasis of important matters and the Annual Financial Statements, and the qualified opinion was based only on the annual financial statements,” said professional accountant André van Niekerk of Pro forum Accountants in Makhado (Louis Trichardt), a member of SAIPA (the South African Institute of Professional Accountants). Van Niekerk was asked by the Zoutpansberger to shed some light on the findings of the report. Performance matters relate to achievement of objectives, compliance with laws and regulations and general management and control. Five of the seven pages in the AG Report were devoted to performance matters. Van Niekerk analysed some of the great challenges. A total number of 244 achievement targets were planned for, of which only 59 were achieved. This is a failure rate of 76%, or an achievement rate of only 24%. “This points to poor management of goals and daily management,” said Van Niekerk.

Due to a lack of proper budgeting and monitor ing of performance management, a total of 86% of the unachieved targets were not disclosed in the annual performance report. “That means that it was hidden from publication, while 90% of the published measures taken to improve performance were unreliable or misleading and could not be substantiated by evidence. This can be interpreted as an attempt to decorate the report to give the impression that measures were taken to improve performance,” said Van Niekerk. The performance targets set were not sufficient in that 43% of the targets were not specific, 35% were not measurable, 69% were not time bound and 34% were not well defined. “Lack of management skills and performance targets and measurements resulted in poor service delivery of 24% of what it should have been. This fact was deliberately hidden. Lack of skills and leadership caused huge losses, irregular spending and weak procurement controls,” was Van Niekerk’s conclusion on per formance matters. Emphasis on important matters refers to matters that the AG specifically wants to point out, but his opinion is not modified in respect of these matters. Here the report highlights the debt of R170,4m and the nearly R47,4m of irregular expenditure of the municipality. Concerning the Annual Financial Statements, the AG said that the statements were a fair reflection of the municipality’s financial position except in terms of three aspects where the AG could not determine whether the adjustments were necessary. “The municipality did not disclose related-party trans actions in the financial statements as required by international Public Sector Accounting Standard,” reports the AG. A related-party transaction can be defined as a business deal or arrangement between two parties who are joined by a special relationship prior to the deal. Failure to disclose this is serious as it could be understood to be a corrupt practice.

The house of the Mbadaliga family of Tshiozwi also collapsed during the heavy rain.

Heavy rains take its toll on Vhembe region The past week’s heavy rains have created havoc in the Vhembe region and numerous families lost houses and other belongings while several roads and bridges were damaged. Many of the region’s dams and rivers are over flowing, following the heavy downpours. Mud houses are especially vulnerable during such rain and in rural areas many of these have collapsed. Several families lost groceries, furniture and other belongings. Ms Rabelani Mbadaliga of Tshiozwi, one of the victims, was busy cleaning up and assessing the damage after her three-room house had collapsed. Along with other family members, they tried to rescue some of the furniture damaged during the storms. Her house’s corrugated roof was also badly damaged. Ms Dorcus Matshivha of Kutama, whose house collapsed, said that she was outside when the walls started caving in. “Since I came to Kutama in 2010, I have never experienced this,” she said. She is now temporarily living with her neighbours with 14 other members of her family in a one-room shack. On Saturday afternoon, villagers were still drying out mattresses, blankets, clothes, furniture and food. Motorists who are staying in slippery mountain areas like Maelula, Tshakhuma, and Maungani are

parking their vehicles near the main tarred road, because they are unable to reach their homes. A spokesperson for the Vhembe district munic ipality, Matodzi Ralushai, said that the affected communities were now forced to use alternative roads to get to work or school and run everyday errands. “Most of the bridges have structural problems, while others are under water,” he said. “We have sent out a disaster team and we are visiting the different areas which have been affected by the floods. We are pleading with parents to warn their children not to swim in the dams or play near the rivers, because there are a lot of crocodiles,” said Ralushai. Ralushai told the Zoutpansberger that some of the families have been left homeless after their mud huts collapsed, but at this stage he has not received any reports of people injured after the huts had fall en down. He warned residents living close to rivers and streams that they must evacuate to a safer place or higher spot when the water level rises. “When you cross a flowing river where water reaches above your ankles, turn back and use alternative routes. Never try to walk, swim or drive in swift-flowing water as it can sweep you off your feet. Do not drive over a low-water bridge if the water is flowing strongly across it,” he said.

Future of local forests is safe and growing

The future of forestry in the Soutpansberg is safe and growing. This was the opinion of a panel of experts who visited the area last week as part of a field trip or ganized by the Molozi Trust. This panel included the Institute for Commercial Forestry Research (ICFR), the Forestry and Agriculture Biotechnol ogy Institute (FABI) and the South African Sirex Control Programme (SASCP). Among the experts were Prof Jolanda Roux, receiver of the Common Wealth Forestry Association award, and an expert in the field of tree health. About 100 people, farmers, foresters and These experts formed part of a field trip to the local forestry industry in the Soutpansberg last students alike, gathered last Tuesday (4th) for a Tuesday, 3 March. In front, from left to right, are Branden Jardim (horticulture manager), and fieldtrip to various local forests, while listening to Roux and her fellow specialists. Corien van Schoor (forestry manager of the Molozi Trust, who organised the field trip). “This was also a good chance for us to hear from people in the field and incorporate their views and experiences into our research,” said Roux after wards. She also expressed her delight at the atten dance of a group of students from the University of Venda. “It is heartwarming to see an interest in the forestry industry from the younger generation.” Exclusive Listing Excellent investment R2.45 million 2855m² Stand with existing building and approved plans in the industrial area. Roux was leading discussions regarding a number of pest and disease problems that face the current plantation grown. The recent appearance of the rust fungus, Acacia mearnsii, early this year in KwaZulu-Natal was, according to Roux, a reason for concern. The fact that the forestry industry in the Soutpansberg is so far inland is stated as the reason why this disease has not been spotted here. Roux cautioned, however, that this does not mean that the Soutpansberg forests will never be hit by plagues and pests. “History has shown us that we can expect other pest and disease problems ap pearing on plantation-grown trees in South Africa in the future. We therefore need to be continuously vigilant,” said Roux. Her advice for farmers and forest companies were to get involved with the government and scientists as early detection will go a long way in pro-actively combating tree diseases. For more information, interested people are welcome to contact the Molozi Trust by means of their secretary at Tel 033 386 2314.

The Council of Musina Municipality met its management team in a three-day strategic planning session in order to come up with fresh ideas and plans aimed at maintaining a high standard of service delivery. The meeting was held at Forever Resorts Tshipise, about 35km east of Musina town. Mayor Carol Phiri says the exercise was fruitful as the de liberations will help to maintain the positive image of the munic ipality. “We met to define our strategy or direction, and making decisions on allocating our re sources to pursue this strategy, including our capital and people. This was our opportunity to an alyze our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, includ ing political, economic, social, and technological elements. During the meeting, we also evaluated how the resolutions of

the previous financial year had been implemented and we were satisfied that we did a wonderful job during the previous financial year.” She says she is happy to note that the municipality has devel oped its strategic plan in a way that it is easily translatable into action plans. “We need to move away from the traditional way of addressing high-level initiatives and over-arching goals which end up not being articulated into dayto-day projects and tasks that will be required to achieve our plans. We are surely going to turn things around this time.” According to Phiri, the strate gic planning session has assisted the municipality in clearly defin ing the purpose of the municipal ity and to establish realistic goals and objectives consistent with the mission in a defined time frame within the institution’s capacity for implementation and how to

communicate those goals and objectives to the municipality’s constituents. “This has also as sisted us in developing a sense of ownership of the plan and to ensure the most effective use is made of the municipality’s re sources by focusing the resources on the key priorities. The session has also provided a base from which progress can be measured and a mechanism for informed change can be established when needed.” The occasion also served as a team-building exercise for the councillors and employees of the municipality. Phiri says team work and team building are essential in a corporate environ ment to make the organization a better place to work. “Employees are the assets of every organization and its suc cess is directly proportional to the hard work every employee puts in.”

“Municipality owes all these mothers and the taxpayers an apology”

I

know a mother who, for many years, squatted daily flat on the pavement with tomatoes for sale, to pay for her son’s tuition at school and further. I felt honoured to salute her whenever I passed her on that pavement. Now somebody in the Makhado Municipality has a sudden big fight with these self-sacrificing mothers, while remaining unper turbed by the drivers of taxis and buses who are unlawfully perpetrat ing every conceivable traffic trans gression at that very same point. At the same time, the municipal ity’s paid mother-fighter is ignoring the life-threatening illegal abortion posters being pasted up and handed out on every street corner in broad daylight, right under the nose of Makhado Municipality’s newly appointed law enforcer. (Does Mr Louis Bobodi still remember his public promise, pictured side by side with a police inspector in the newspaper, to act against these posters?) Brave, wise, champions who are

using OUR tax money to harass OUR heroic mother entrepreneurs? The Makhado Municipality owes these women and all their taxpayers an apology: For neglect and for hamhandedness. If they are truly concerned about law enforcement, what about policing some stop signs, parking spaces only for the physically handicapped, no-parking signs for buses and taxis and allow ing the uncontrolled parking on the wrong side of the street right on the pavement, in front of the munici pality’s liquor-selling neighbours? What about real, honest action against unlawful political posters on traffic signs, together with illegal abortion posters? Mister mother-fighter and his bosses should once again read carefully how their responsibility is being prescribed by law, also with regard to their maintenance and the conservation of public assets. That would be an excellent starting point, don’t you think? – Francis van der Merwe

Brief

So sit Daisy en Baardman een aand teen sononder by ‘n watergat net buite Ellisras.

“En ek doen dit net omdat jy my oortuig het watse skoon diere varke eintlik is,” voeg hy by. “Jy weet hoe heilig ek is op my kar...” Sy doen haar werk op die plaas terwyl sy af en toe spontaan begin sing “How much is that piggie in the window, oink oink...”

The Way, the Truth and the Life

Ecclesiastes 5:10-17 od has given us a wonderful world to enjoy. We should make sensible use of God’s gifts, but always remember that one day we shall die and all that we own will be left behind. Job put it this way: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall return there.” (Job 1:21) To love the things of the world more than the things of God is a sad situation for any person to be in. God must be first in everything. The only treasure that counts when we die is the spiritual treasure that is stored for us in heaven. The Christian should be someone who looks forward to the coming of Christ because it means leaving this world of sin and death and going to be with Jesus, the giver of eternal life and pure joy. Take to heart the words of Jesus Christ our lord in Matt 6:19-21: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be.” Where is your heart? - 079 5168303

“Jy vertel my dit gaan so klein pienk varkie wees, Daisy. Het jy enige idee hoe ruik my kar?!”

Entries open for annual Kremetart Cycle Race

Elegant Fuel from Makhado (Louis Trichardt) is gearing up for the 2014 Donaldson CrossCountry Motor Racing Championship. This petroleum company has been sponsoring team Sullwald since 2010. This year, the team remains unchanged for the new season, with Quintin and Karl-Heinz “Kallie” Sullwald, campaigning in their BAT Venom, and Hermann and Wichard Sullwald, who will be out in their STRYKER. It is worth mentioning that the team won four Class A victories. Even so, they missed out on the championship pace, due to some bad luck and reliability issues with the new race cars. Photo supplied.

Entries are open for the 25th Kremetart oneday, four-stage cycling race, sponsored by PPC. The PPC Kremetart Stage Race turns 25 this year and calls on all competitive cyclists and enthusiasts to participate in the race, which takes place on 7 June. This year marks the 10th year that PPC has been involved in its sponsorship and the third year that they are the main sponsors of the race. The Kremetart Cy cling Race attracts cy clists from all over the country and over 10 000 visitors are hosted in the region. This provides a financial injection of more than R20 million towards the Makhado (Louis Trichardt) area, in accommodation, en tertainment and other operating expenditure. The weekend is geared towards the whole family, with ac tivities for cyclists of different ages and fit ness levels. Friday (6 June) late afternoon will kick off with a 10km mountain-bike fun ride. On Saturday, the main attraction will be the fa mous one-day, four-stage race, as well as a 70km road race. For the more adventurous, there is a moun tain-bike cross-country olympic race with scenic routes through the Soutspansberg Mountain, to be held on Sunday (8 June). PPC’s customer executive: cement sales and marketing, Richard Tomes, says that PPC is de

lighted to sponsor this event as it offers amateur cyclists an opportunity to ride with professionals and, at the same time, experience the beautiful Soutpansberg region. “It is a serious race, but also a time for families to spend time together and enjoy the great outdoors,” he said. The first Kremetart Race was held in 1990, with only 50 cyclists. The popularity of the race has grown annually and continues to do so. The organisers set a limit of 2 000 entries in order to provide an enjoyable and quality experience. “This is the third year that PPC and Kremetart Cycling are joining forc es to present the biggest cycling event in the Lim popo Province. We are privileged to have PPC as our main sponsor as they are committed to promoting cycling, not only in our province, but countrywide. With the ongoing partnership with PPC, this race is known as one of the best-organised races in South Africa. As this is the 25th year of the Kremetart Cycle Race, we aim to make all par ticipants’ and supporters’ cycling experiences something to remember,” says Renda Alexander, PPC Kremetart race organizer of the P&L Cycling Club of Louis Trichardt. Kremetart is rated as one of the top three road races amongst cyclists in the country. Enter online at www.kremetartcycling.co.za. Entries close on 31 May at midnight.

Krieket

“Ons eerstespan se opponente was massief groot.

Netbalafrigter me. Saterdagspel Datum
