Is die Makhado Munisipaliteit van voorneme om Laat Lente en Herfsakker in Louis Trichardt te verkoop, en moet inwoners van hierdie munisipale behuisingskompleks vir “afgetredenes” begin uitkyk vir alternatiewe woonplek?

Volgens die 68-jarige mev. Hettie du Plessis is dit presies wat hulle meegedeel is. Sy en haar 78-jarige man, Martin, loseer tans op ‘n plaas net buite Louis Trichardt. Hulle het egter einde verlede jaar besluit om weens beide veiligheids- en gesondheidsredes eerder aansoek te doen vir een van die woonstelle by die kompleks.

“Hulle het ons in Desember [2017] geskakel en gesê daar is ‘n woonstel beskikbaar. Ons het aansoek gedoen en is deur die Stadsraad meegedeel dat ons maar kan kom teken vir die woonstel.

Ons het gaan teken, maar daarna niks weer van die Stadsraad gehoor nie,” het Du Plessis aan die Zoutpansberger gesê.

Volgens Du Plessis het die Stadsraad haar en haar man vir maande aan ‘n lyntjie gehou. “Ek het vir my man gesê daar is fout toe ons nie weer van hulle gehoor het nadat ons gaan teken het nie. In April het ons weer navraag gaan doen. Dit is toe dat die amptenaar by wie ons gaan teken het vir ons gesê het hy is nou jammer om dit vir ons te sê, maar die munisipaliteit het besluit om eerder die woonstelle te verkoop,” het Du Plessis gesê.

Intussen het nog soortgelyke gerugte van die munisipaliteit se voorneme om die kompleks te verkoop die koerant bereik. Dit het die Zoutpans­ berger genoop om die Makhado Munisipaliteit te vra of daar enige waarheid is in die gerugte dat hulle in die proses is om van Laat Lente en Herfsakker

ontslae te raak. Laat Lente en Herfsakker bestaan saam uit 40 munisipale woonsteleenhede (20 elk) wat tans huisvesting bied aan sowat 50 pensioenarisse wat geen ander heenkome het nie. Die woonstelletjies is vir baie ‘n aantreklike opsie, veral vanweë hul bekostigbaarheid. Die maandelikse huur vir die eenhede beloop gemiddeld sowat R350 per maand. Al voorwaardes om in aanmerking te kom vir ‘n woonstel, is dat die aansoeker ouer as 60 jaar moet wees, ‘n SASSA-staatspensioen moet ontvang as enigste inkomste en geen ander werk mag hê of doen nie.

Die munisipaliteit is pertinent gevra of hulle opgehou het om aansoeke te aanvaar vir woonstelle by die kompleks en, indien wel, wanneer en waarom die besluit geneem is. Die koerant wou ook weet of die munisipaliteit in enige stadium ‘n aanbod ontvang het vir die verkoop van die woonstelle.

Die munisipaliteit se antwoorde op hierdie vrae was by die beste van tye vaag en ontwykend. Hulle het weggespring deur te sê dat hulle steeds die eienaars van die woonstelle en perseel is, en dat hulle in geen stadium opgehou het om aansoeke vir woonstelle te aanvaar nie. “Ons het nie gestop nie. Alle aansoeke gaan nou deur die munisipaliteit hanteer word en nie meer deur onbekende individue nie,” het munisipale woordvoerder mnr. Louis Bobodi geantwoord.

Oor gerugte dat die munisipaliteit van voorneme is om die woonstelle te verkoop, het Bobodi bloot gesê dit was ‘n voorstel aan die Stadsraad. Van wie af die voorstel gekom het, het Bobodi nie gesê nie.

Hy wou hom ook nie veel uitlaat oor die proses vorentoe nie, veral wat betref verblyfsekuriteit vir die huidige inwoners. “Dit is steeds nog net ‘n voorstel,” het Bobodi gesê. (Vervolg op p. 2)

Inwoners van Laat Lente en Herfsakker staar ‘n duister toekoms in die gesig met gerugte dat die munisipaliteit die woonstelle wil verkoop.

Die Zoutpansberger en Limpopo Mirror koerante het hierdie week afskeid geneem van een van hul pryswenner-joernaliste, Isabel Venter. Isabel het besluit om die vars Bosveld lug te verruil vir die stadsliggies. Sy het ‘n pos aanvaar by Netwerk 24 se Pretoria kantoor waar sy Maandag moet aanmeld vir diens. Isabel was net kort van tien jaar werksaam by Zoutnet. “Ons wens haar alle sterkte toe en vertrou sy gaan nog groot hoogtes bereik in die joernalistiek,” het haar “familie” by die koerant gesê. Woman robbed in busy parking lot Crime

A taxi driver has been placed under arrest for allegedly aiding and abetting a man who robbed a woman in the parking lot of the Musina Mall.

A video of the incident was widely shared on Facebook. The incident took place last Thursday.

In the video, a taxi can be seen slowly driving between a row of parked vehicles. The woman can be seen walking towards the taxi from the opposite direction.

As the taxi passes the woman,

the left panel doors slides open and a man wearing a white cap jumps out.

The man briskly walks around the taxi and intercepts the woman as she walks past. He makes a dive towards the woman, almost pushing her to the ground. He grabs a package from her and quickly runs back to the taxi, jumps in, after which the taxi speeds off.

According to the police ,the attacker had managed to grab a bundle of money from the woman. She was allegedly walking

from the China Mall to the Musina Mall on her way to bank the money. “The suspect managed to get away with an undisclosed amount of money,” said the police’s provincial spokesperson, Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The short video clip of the incident spread like wildfire on Facebook and was viewed thousands of times. At the time of our going to press, the police were also busy investigating another armed robbery that was reported at Baobab Motors in Musina on Tuesday.

Suspects arrested Crime

Five armed robbers were cornered on Tuesday, shortly after they had robbed a business in Musina.

According to provincial police spokesperson Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspects, aged between 41 and 46, targeted a local supermarket in Musina. The suspects pretended to be customers.

“One of them produces a firearm and demanded money while others helped themselves to cash and cigarettes,” said Ngoepe. Before the suspects fled, they also robbed one of the store’s customers of his cell phone and identity card.

All five the suspects fled in a waiting green BMW. Local police were immediately notified, and they managed to intercept the suspects in their BMW on the N1 south of Musina near the Baobab Toll Gate Plaza. Apart from the BMW that was confiscated during the arrest, Ngoepe confirmed that the police had also seized one pump-action shotgun with six rounds of live ammunition, one revolver with four rounds of ammunition, six cell phones, as well as a second vehicle, an Isuzu double-cab bakkie. The five suspects are expected to appear in the Messina Magistrate’s Court later in the week.

Volgens Heidi-Lene se dokters kan haar behandeling enige iets van vier tot ses maande duur. Dit is vir hierdie rede dat die manne van Tafelronde Zoutpansberg 66 ingespring het om fondse te help insamel. “Ons is okay om haar goedjies soos medisyne en so te kan bybring, maar dit kos R1 500 per dag om haar in die rehabilitasiesentrum te kan hê,” het Elze-Mari gesê. Enige iemand wat ‘n bydrae wil maak kan dit direk aan die Tafelronde oorbetaal. Hulle rekening is by Eerste Nasionale Bank, Louis Trichardt, rekeningnommer 52866832804, takkode 260 149, met verwysing Heidi-Lene Jonck.

Heidi-Lene Jonck (23) was net vir ‘n kort rukkie terug by die huis voordat sy begin het met haar rehabilitasie.

Sy was vir 33 dae in die intensiewe sorgeenheid en in totaal bykans sewe weke in die hospitaal, nadat sy ernstig beseer is tydens ‘n fratsongeluk.

Heidi-Lene het op Sondag, 11 Maart, saam met vriende by die Albasinidam baljaar en op ‘n binneband gery wat agter ‘n boot gesleep is op die dam. Van die vriende het op ‘n stilstaande boot op die dam ontspan, terwyl ‘n tweede boot die binneband getrek het. Heidi-Lene is, toe die boot skerp weggedraai het, teen die agterkant van die stilstaande boot geslinger.

Met die slag is die femur in Heidi-Lene se linkerbeen gebreek. Dié is intussen geopereer en met ‘n pen geheg.

As gevolg van die hou wat Heidi-Lene teen haar kop weg het, is sy tans steeds verlam aan haar linkerkant en afhanklik van voltydse versorging. Derhalwe is daar besluit om Heidi-Lene so vinnig as moontlik in ‘n rehabilitasiesentrum te kry.

Ongelukkig het Heidi-Lene met haar aankoms by die huis amper gelyktydig longontsteking en ‘n bloedklont in haar been opgedoen. Dit was eers na sy herstel het dat sy oorgeplaas kon word na die La Vie Care Lynn­ med rehabilitasiesentrum. “Die geleentheid by dié sentrum is uit God se Hand,” het Heidi-Lene se suster, Elze-Mari du Preez, Woensdag gesê.

Dit was ‘n reuse saamwerk-poging met baie engele wat gestuur is, maar uiteindelik kon Heidi-Lene op Sondag, 3 Junie, vertrek na die sentrum in Pretoria.

Heidi-Lene sê elke dag vir haar sussa, soos sy Elze-Marie noem, dat sy hard werk. “Sy wil bitter graag weer loop en party dae frustreer dit haar omdat sy voel sy vorder nie vinnig genoeg nie,” het Elze-Mari gesê. “Maar vir ons is elke dag ‘n geskenk.

Elke bietjie vordering is vir ons wonderlik.”

na die Du Plessis-geval waar die Stadsraad hulle gevra het om te kom teken vir hul woonstel, maar hulle toe nooit die woonstel gekry het nie.

By navraag hieroor, het Vermeulen gesê, het die amptenaar wat die kontrakte hanteer haar meegedeel dat die feit dat hulle iets geteken het nie beteken dat hulle ‘n kontrak met die munisipaliteit het nie.

Vermeulen het gesê sy weet vir ‘n feit dat die munisipaliteit oorweeg om die woonstelle aan individue te probeer verkoop.

Sy het bygevoeg dat dié voorstel aan die Stadsraad gemaak is deur een van hulle eie amptenare. “Ek weet waarna hulle verwys as hulle sê die munisipaliteit gaan die plasings doen en nie onbekende individue nie. Hulle praat van ons. Ons het nog nooit self plasings gedoen nie. Al wat ons

gedoen het, was om die Stads­ raad in te lig oor wie werklik behuising nodig het en wie nie daarvoor kwalifiseer nie,” het Vermeulen gesê.

Vermeulen se bevestiging dat daar definitief iets aan die broei is by die munisipaliteit rondom die verkoop van die woonstelle het ook duidelik geword uit Bobodi se reaksie op ‘n vraag in watter stadium hulle inwoners in kennis gaan stel van hul voorneme om die eenhede te verkoop, sou daar waarheid in die gerugte wees.

Hierop het Bobodi bloot geantwoord: “Wanneer die Raad dit goedkeur.”

Intussen rus die huidige onse­ kerheid oor ‘n heenkome swaar op inwoners van die kompleks se skouers. “Dit is ‘n noodlyn vir soveel mense wat net nie ‘n ander heenkome het of kan bekostig nie,” het Vermeulen gesê.

Moderate increases with focus on job creation

As usual the ratepayers in the Makhado Municipality will have to fork out some more money in the new year to subsidize increased municipal expenditure, but the tariff increases are fairly moderate. The focus in the new year also seems to be on stimulating the local economy to create more employment opportunities.

The mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Cllr Shonisani Sinyosi, presented the 2018/19 budget during a function at the Ha-Mutsha community hall last Friday (8th). She said that Council expect a total income of almost R1 billion (R996 million) for the next year. Only R78 million of the revenue will come from own sources. The allocation from National Treasury’s Equitable Share is estimated at R316 million. She did not expand on the remainder of the sources of income, apart from the Integrated National Electrification Programme (INEP) grant.

“We expect an estimated R16,9 million from INEP, which is a grant for electricity connections,” she said.

Electricity to go up by 6,84% The rise in electricity tariffs is guided by the national electricity regulator, NERSA, and is set at 6,84%. The rates for refuse removal and sundry tariffs were adjusted in line with inflation and as guided by Municipal Funds Management Act circulars.

“The refuse removal tariffs will increase by 5,3%, while the sundry tariffs will also increase by 5,3%,” the mayor announced.

Council has not budgeted for any increases in property rates for the coming year. The new valuation roll, where property values had been adjusted, will come into effect from July 2018.

The mayor pointed out that the municipality had been able to fulfil its credit obligations with major creditors such as Eskom. This is in stark contrast with neighbouring municipalities where Eskom has threatened to cut the power supply at certain periods to force them to pay their debt. “Our target for revenue collection during the next financial year is 90%,” she said.

Towards a clean audit Mayor Sinyosi again stressed the importance of accountable local government. The Makhado Municipality received an adverse audit opinion from the Auditor-General in the previous financial year.

“I am not happy with the audit outcome, because it signals a decline from the previous years’ qualified audit results,” she said.

The mayor said that an action plan was in place to address issues raised by the Auditor-General. “We have also committed ourselves to fiscal prudence that reduces unauthorised, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure,” she said.

The mayor did not mention the VBS Mutual Bank scandal by name, but did refer to it when she said that Council had adopted an investment policy “to ensure that all investments are taken in line with applicable legislation and treasury regulations.” Makhado Municipality invested more than R62 million with VBS Mutual before the bank was placed under curatorship earlier this year. It is doubtful whether the municipality will be able to

get all the funds back.

Stimulating the local economy One of the central themes of the budget is job creation. Mayor Sinyosi referred to South Africa’s unemployment rate of 36,7%. “…and youth unemployment stands at 49,6%,” she said. The local municipality has supported several projects whereby people are employed on a temporary or permanent basis. “Over the past three years, a total of 2 552 work opportunities were created through our internal capital-intensive projects and the Expanded Public Works Programme,” she said.

The target for the new year is to create 1 446 work opportunities. “It means our capital and infrastructure projects must be labour-intensive to ensure that we reach the EPWP targets,” Sinyosi said. She mentioned that, by December 2017, the Makhado Municipality managed to spend more than 50% of its Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG). “National Treasury has since then given us an additional R15 million for infrastructure development,” she said.

Business development Special mention was made of the extension of the Makhado Crossing Mall to become a regional mall.

This development is being done by the Masingita Group of Companies and is expected to provide 550 to 600 jobs during the construction phase. “More than 700 direct and permanent jobs will be created post construction of the mall,” Sinyosi said.

Other developments referred to by the mayor include 20 sites in Waterval for businesses and the selling of land next to the N1 in Eltivillas to accommodate restaurants. The new Builder’s Warehouse will also open in the next few months.

“We must attract more people to stay in town, so that we create a more vibrant and sustainable buying power for businesses in town. We shall sell vacant stands in the town and also dispose (of) more land for residential and industrial development,” she said.

Mayor Sinyosi again referred to the piece of land that Council donated last year to the University of Venda for the building of a satellite campus. “We

shall fast-track the process of setting up a team to ensure that this opportunity is seized,” she said.

The quest for land The budget tries to address the urgent need for land for development and residential sites. The mayor made it clear that this needs to be addressed in a structured way. “We do not encourage our residents to occupy land illegally, as it undermines the constitutional framework and the commitment of government to ensure proper and coordinated development of land to the landless,” she said.

Mayor Sinyosi expanded on a previous announcement that more residential sites will be developed in places such as Tshikota. She referred to Council’s mandate to address past injustices where “land-use laws and practices … were based on racial inequality, segregation and unsustainable settlement patterns”. A total of R3,5 million has been budgeted to assist traditional leaders in establishing formal human settlements by demarcating residential sites.

As far as the indigent and the elderly are concerned, Council and the relevant government department intend building 118 Community Residential Units (CRUs) in Ward 7 of Tshikota township in the next year. The mayor also made mention of the establishment of a multi-stakeholder housing committee that was formed in Tshikota. Among others, this committee will conduct an ownership audit of RDP houses in Tshikota and to oversee the allocation of new RDP houses to deserving members of the community.

“During the next financial year, the Department of Planning and Development will receive an estimated R11 million for various projects and programmes,” the mayor said. She stressed that Council is committed to tending to land rezoning, sub-division and other land-development applications. “A delay in approving land-development applications is a delay in attracting economic investment within the municipality,” she said.

SA Hunters disappointed with Concourt ruling Legislation

The SA Hunters and Game Conservation Association (SA Hunters) have expressed their dissapointment in the Constitutional Court Judgement of 7 June when the court overturned the North Gauteng High Court’s judgment in 2017 that Sections 24 and 28 of the Firearms Control Act were unconstitutional.

“The ruling means that all firearms of which the licences had expired and for which renewal applications have not been submitted in time, are deemed to be in illegal possession. Therefore, the owner of such a firearm could be criminally prosecuted for illegal possession of a firearm,” said the SA Hunters in a press release on June 8.

According to the SA Hunters, the Concourt ruling brings no relief for the estimated 300 000 firearm owners that merely forgot to renew their firearm licences in time. It forces these owners to hand in their firearms at their police stations to be destroyed. The current law makes no provision for these people to renew their firearm licences.

SA Hunters CEO Fred Camphor said the Constitutional Court focussed on the constitutionality of Sections 24 and 28 of the Act, while it did not seem to consider the other limitations and difficulties associated with the act. “Although the court acknowledged the chaotic administration and management of the Act, no remedy was offered to address any of the problems that firearm owners experience,” said Camphor.

Although gun owners who hand in their firearms may apply for compensation, Camphor said that compensation may not be necessarily be granted as the Registrar may decide whether compensation is payable. “The only possible alternative for this dilemma is if a firearm licence amnesty is implemented. Earlier this year, the SAPS indicated that it wished to declare an amnesty period from 1 June to 30 November 2018. As far as we know, the SAPS did not submit its application for the approval of

an amnesty to Parliament in time,” said Camphor.

Should an amnesty be announced, said Camphor, the law would make provision that illegally owned firearms (including those for which the licences had expired) must be handed in at the SAPS. In such cases, a firearm owner will not be prosecuted for illegal possession of a firearm. The SAPS will also do ballistic tests on the firearm to check if it had been used in criminal activities. If a firearm can indeed be linked to a crime, the owner can be prosecuted for the crime, but not for illegal possession of a firearm. Lastly, the amnesty will also allow the owner to apply for a new licence for the firearm handed in during the amnesty period if the applicant complies with all the requirements. The SAPS can issue a new licence and the applicant can collect his/her firearm from the police station.

“Without an amnesty, firearm owners whose licences had expired, can be prosecuted for illegal possession of a firearm. Although the judge expressed his opinion in the judgement that he doubted if the SAPS would prosecute an individual who hands in his or her firearm, the Court did not place any restriction on the police or order them not to prosecute in this instance,” said Camphor.

Regarding compensation, Section 137 of the Act makes provision for compensation to be paid to a person who was compelled to hand in a firearm.

Regulation 92 determines the nature of the compensation. It is important to note that the Registrar has the authority to decide if compensation should be paid out. “Compensation in this instance amounts to a maximum of R500 for a handgun and a maximum of R1000 for a rifle, which is far below the real value of these firearms,” said Camphor.

“SA Hunters is still considering the full impact of the judgement and other options to resolve the matter. The highest court in the country has spoken.

We will probably engage with the Minister and the authorities to discuss a pragmatic approach and to resolve the ongoing problems going forward,” said Camphor.

The Khoroni Hotel, Casino and Convention Resort recently appointed Mr Elias Moduka as its general manager responsible for overseeing the smooth running of overall operations, which includes the full and efficient functioning of Khoroni’s gaming, hotel and support services.

He began his career in the hospitality industry more than 20 years ago with a prominent South African resort hotel chain. He initially worked as a waiter and gradually grew his love and passion for the hospitality and gaming industries. During this time, he gained experience in food and beverage, surveillance and VIP services.

“When the opportunity to join Khoroni as general manager presented itself, I grabbed it with both hands,” says Moduka. “To me, this opportunity was the culmination of decades of hard work, commitment and experience in the industry, and I am proud to assume my new role.”

As part of his duties, he will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining good relationships with all group stakeholders, including staff, guests, unions, shareholders and community leaders. Moduka says he will also ensure the sustainability of the business through management of costs in a controlled and structured manner.

Om dit te verdra beteken nie om dit teësinnig te verduur nie, maar om die geleentheid gelowig aan te gryp dat God dit tot sy eer tot seën kan omskep.

Youngsters dominate shorter Kremetart races Cycling News

Not only did Louis Trichardt play host to cyclists from across the country, but several of the town’s own cyclists featured on the podium, following the 35km and 70km road races of this year’s Jacaranda FM Kremetart Cycle Race.

The 35km race in particular was dominated by local youngsters. This year’s race saw the cyclists crossing the dreaded Otto’s Hoogte twice as the route went out to Kutama Village, southwest of town, and back. Mostly the mountain bikers held their ground over the roadies, with many of them finishing in the top three podium positions.

Brother and sister duo Marno and Karla (Vossie) van Zyl dominated the 35km race. They are better known for their skills on mountain bikes, but still competed in the road race on borrowed road bikes.

Marno was the overall men’s winner in a time of 1:06:08, while Karla was the overall women’s winner in a time of 1:14:46.

Joining Marno on the podium in second place was Rohan Cronjé in a time of 1:06:10.24, followed by Rofhiwa Kutama in third place in a time of 1:07:24.67.

The second woman overall was Christelle Coetzer (no time recorded), followed by Jennavieve Truter in a time of 1:14:51.74.

All these youngsters, apart from Rofhiwa, are

part of the cycling team of Louis Trichardt High School. Another youngster who did very well was Wessel Furstenberg from Louis Trichardt Primary School. He finished sixth overall in the race and was the first youth man U/14 in a time of 1:09:42.53 Other categories where local cyclists featured were the junior boys U/18, where Heine de Jager finished first in a time of 1:07:31.38, and Johan van Deventer was first in the category for sub-vet men (ages between 30 and 39) in a time of 1:36:26.89.

Bruce Wells was second in the category for male masters (aged between 50 and 59) in a time of 2:29:31.48, while Jan Lombard finished first in the category for male masters (aged between 60 and 69) in a time of 1:37:44.15.

Jeneane Roets was second in the category for veteran women (aged between 40 and 49) in a time of 1:42:35.91. Another local woman, Berdine Pretorius, was first in the category for female masters (aged 50 to 59) in a time of 1:44:36.44.

In the 70km race, Richard Lambert from Louis Trichardt finished second overall and was first in the category for junior boys U/18 in a time of 1:59:05.60. Turner de Swardt, also from Louis Trichardt, was second in this category in a time of 2:18:51.31.

Franco is geen nuweling in hierdie gesogte spanne nie. In sy termyn as onderhoofseun van Laerskool Louis Trichardt in 2015 het hy sy Limpopokleure verwerf toe hy ook opgeneem is in die Cravenweekspan. In daardie jaar was Franco ook Triegies se Sportseun van die Jaar.

Triegie-leeu brul vir Lions Deur Isabel Venter

Binnekort sal daar ‘n Triegie-leeu brul in die Goue Leeus-span.

Philip Apea-Adu (o.18) van Hoërskool Louis Trichardt is vanaf 2019 uitgekontrakteer aan die o.19-span van die Emirates Lions. Hy het in Mei ‘n kontrak geteken met dié gewilde klub, wat al in die Currie Beker, Vodacom- en Super Rugbyreeks deelgeneem het.

Twee ander bekende rugbyspanne het ook vir Philip kontrakte aangebied. Dit was op die einde

van die dag, sê Philip, ‘n persoonlike keuse wat hy gemaak het om die Goue Leeus se aanbod te aanvaar.

Volgens Philip se huidige afrigter by Hoërskool Louis Trichardt, mnr. Armand Stander, is dit geen verrassing dat daar soveel belangstelling in Philip is nie. Philip, het Armand gesê, is ‘n uitstekende speler wat die span deur voorbeeld lei. “Hy het hard gewerk om hier te kom en verdien absoluut om gekies te word,” het Armand gesê.

Buiten vir sy talent op die rugbyveld is Philip ‘n natuurlike atleet. Hy het Triegies al op ‘n provin-

siale én nasionale vlak verteenwoordig in krieket en atletiek. Van sy loopbaanhoogtepunte sluit in sy opname in die Titans-krieketspan in 2017. In 2015 het hy ook vir die Titans se o.16-span gespeel.

Net soos verlede jaar, is Philip ook hierdie jaar deur die Suid-Afrikaanse Rugbyunie gekies om deel te wees van hul Elite o.18-oefengroep. Hy sal ook later vanjaar in dié ouderdomskategorie deelneem aan die jaarlikse Cravenweek. Verlede jaar, toe hy in die o.17-span was, het Philip weggestap met ‘n Man van die Wedstryd-titel.

Opgewonde oor die toekoms is Philip beslis, maar vir eers moet hy nog dink aan skoolwerk.

Philip is tans in sy matriekjaar en werk hard om sy skoolwerk te balanseer met ‘n besige oefenprogram. “Daar is ‘n sekere vlak van fiksheid wat mens moet behou voor en ná die rugbyseisoen,” het Philip verduidelik.

As Philip nie aan die oefen is nie, is hy besig met ekstra lesse en huiswerk. Sy plan, het Philip gesê, is ook om volgende jaar verder te studeer.

Hy hoop om by die Universiteit van Johannesburg B.Com rekenkundige wetenskappe te studeer.

Sonder sy familie se ondersteuning, sê Philip, sou niks van hierdie drome vir hom kon waar word nie. “Ek is ongelooflik dankbaar teenoor my ouers vir hulle ondersteuning,” het Philip gesê. Hy het ook sy dank uitgespreek teenoor Armand. “Hy hou my altyd gemotiveerd,” het Philip gesê.

Sy raad aan die jonger geslag?
