Een van die wêreld se magtigste leiers, die kroonprins van Saoedi-Arabië, besit blykbaar ‘n reuse deel van die grond noord van die Soutpansberg. Gerugte oor die Arabiese leier se uitbreidings op plase in die Waterpoort en Mopane distrikte doen al ‘n jaar of wat die rondte. In plaaslike kringe is dit een van die “ope geheime” dat die eintlike eienaar van die jagplaas Ekland nie ‘n Suid-Afrikaanse maatskappy is nie. Dit was egter eers verlede week, ná berigte in die nasionale media verskyn het, dat die sluier begin lig het oor wie presies die sowat 20 000 hektaar grond besit. ‘n Span ondersoekende joernaliste van AmaBunghane het die moeilike taak aangepak om te bepaal wie presies wat besit en wie die werklike

Op plaaslike front is daar bespiegel dat die werk gedoen word vir eienaars van Saoedi-Arabië, maar niemand het wyd daaroor gepraat nie en vir die meeste van die kontrakteurs het dit nie saak gemaak nie. Hulle is billik vergoed vir die werk, maar hulle moes kwaliteit werk lewer. Geen koste is ontsien om die grond (wat later meer en meer plase ingesluit het) behoorlik te omhein nie. Die drie-dubbele heining wat kilometers en kilometers ver strek, het na skatting al meer as R100 miljoen gekos. Die bouwerk aan die

Kriminele rekord vir dieremishandeling Deur Andries van Zyl

Die 62-jarige man van Louis Trichardt wat deur die plaaslike Dierebeskermingsvereniging (DBV) van dieremishandeling aangekla is, het besluit om eerder ‘n skulderkenningsboete te betaal, voordat sy saak in die hof aangehoor word. Benewens die boete sit hy nou ook met ‘n kriminele rekord. Die klagte teen die man hou verband met die “onmenslike” vervoer van tientalle skape op ‘n oop bakkie van Pretoria tot in Louis Trichardt. Die voorval het op 12 Desember 2018 plaasgevind. Die Louis Trichardt DBV se inspekteur Lawrence Khodobo het in sy beëdigde verklaring gesê dat hy die betrokke dag via die Limpopo SPCA se WhatsAppgroep ingelig is van iemand wat met ‘n oorlaaide vrag skape op ‘n bakkie vanaf Pretoria na Louis Trichardt op pad was. “Sommige van die skape se koppe en bene het oor die kant van die bakkie deur die reëlings uitgehang. Foto’s van die skape is deurgestuur waar hulle bo-op mekaar trap en sommige se nekke het teen die reëlings gedruk in ‘n wurgposisie,” het Khodobo gesê. ‘n Dag later, op 13 Desember, het hulle die eienaar van die bakkie opgespoor en kort daarna het Khodobo na die man se kleinhoewe net buite die dorp gery om die betrokke vrag skape te gaan inspekteer. According to Mr Ndivhuwo Mafela, spokesperson for the NLC, it has come to their attention that individials, using various aliases, contact applicants that have applied for funding with news that their applications

have been successful. “They then request that money be deposited into their accounts as admin fees to release the grant payments. Those who have been targeted soon discover that the apparent officials do not work for the NLC,” said Mafela. “The NLC is working in close co-operation with law-enforcement agencies to trace the people behind these scams and bring them to book,” he added. The NLC emphasized that it does not employ agents to facilitate applications and grant

payments. The NLC also does not charge any fees for the processing of applications or to pay out grants. “Report these activities to your local police station and contact us if your organisation has been approached in this manner,” said Mafela. The NLC’s anti-fraud number is 0800 212 129. “Call us on 08600 65383 to verify information if you are contacted by so-called agents for any reason. Members of the public can access information and assistance at our provincial offices free of charge,” said Mafela.

Guards who bury money get nine years jail time Court News

The two Fidelity security guards who were arrested on 16 January this year after almost R2,6 million was found buried in the ground were each sentenced to nine years direct imprisonment in the Louis Trichardt Regional Court on Monday. The 31-year-old Rofhiwa Emmanuel Luvhimbi from Ha Ravele and 41-year-old Tinyiko Thomas Maluleke from Elim both pleaded guilty on 3 April this year to stealing the money. The money was stolen from their employer at the time, Fidelity CIT in Louis Trichardt, between the period of 14 December 2018 and 16 January 2019. The two were arrested after a team of operatives comprising members derived from the Provincial Organized Crime unit, Crime Intelligence, the Makhado Task Team and Thohoyandou Tactical

Response Team (TRT) were assembled to conduct a well-coordinated operation at different identified sites. This after information was received of a substantial amount of money that went missing from Fidelity in Louis Trichardt. The operation, which commenced on the afternoon of 16 January, proceeded through the night until the next morning. Characterized by relentless searches, probing and digging by the members at three different premises, the effort produced positive results when the cash was found buried in the backyards of the identified sites. Some of the cash was found stashed in ice cream containers and refuse bags. Although the police initially recovered just over R2,6 million in stolen money, the amount on the charge sheet that went missing totalled just over R2,9 million. A lot of excitement was in the air during Louis Trichardt High School’s open day last Thursday. Some of the matriculants were inundated with questions and had to divide their attention to deal with all the “new Triegies”. Grade 7 pupils from different schools gathered at Louis Trichardt High School last Thursday to get a glimpse of what awaits them when they walk through the gates of their new school next year. During Louis Trichardt High’s open day, the excitement and curiosity of the future “Triegies” were clearly visible. “I think high school is going to be a big adventure. I am looking forward to making new friends,” said Khonani Munzhelele. Khonani formed part of the Grade 7 delegation from Louis Trichardt Primary School. “I think high school is going to be an awesome experience, and it’s going to be great fun with me and my best friend,” said fellow young Triegie Naledi Mokoena. Lutendo Mudau agreed but said that she looked forward to making new friends from other schools. “New friends! New teachers!” she said. School mate Gabriella Mulweli was a bit more pessimistic. “I hope high school is going to be better than primary. I hope we get to make a lot of friends and I hope they don’t bully me,” she said. Lutendo Mudau, another Grade 7 learner, was very

excited. “I think high school is going to be a great adventure, and we’ll make good friends from other schools. I think it’s going to be awesome,” she said. During Thursday’s open day, the future Triegies were told more about the activities at the high school. The questions about activities such as the “groentjiekonsert” (freshman’s concert) were answered and the children were told about the various sport activities presented at the high school. These include cycling, hockey, rugby and athletics. The more audacious of the young visitors asked about the academic programme and what subjects they can choose in the following years. They wanted to know about study fields such as tourism and engineering design. Some others were more interested in the location of the “vryboom” (the tree where the young lovers secretly get together), but at the end of the day, most of the fears and uncertainties were addressed. Erica “Jeff” Muneri, a pupil from Soutpansberg Primary, was not totally sure whether she would become a learner at Louis Trichardt High School, but she enjoyed the session. “I am very curious to know what such a sublime and well-known school has in store for us,” she said.

The South African Police Service in Limpopo made a major breakthrough by seizing drugs and counterfeit goods worth millions over the weekend. Two suspects, one of whom is a woman, were arrested in two separate incidents in the Makhado and Modimolle police clusters. According to provincial police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the police were allegedly performing their normal duties at the Beit Bridge border post on 12 May at around 06:00 when they searched the luggage belonging to a 38-year-old woman. During the search, the police found 15 bags of the drug crystal meth with an estimated street value of over R2 million. “The preliminary police investigations revealed that this woman was travelling from Harare in Zimbabwe to South Africa,” said Ngoepe. Meanwhile, in the Roedtan policing area outside Modimolle, the police arrested a 39-year-old man for possession of counterfeit cigarettes (illegal cigarettes) while patrolling along the N11 and R33 crossroads near Rathoke weight bridge. “The police

n Kolossense 3:16 lees ons: “Die boodskap van Christus moet in sy volle rykdom in julle bly.” Weet ons wat hierdie woorde beteken? Eerstens moet ons onsself afvra: Wat is die boodskap van Christus? Dit is die boodskap wat ondenkbare groot blydskap vir mense bring. Dit is die boodskap wat hoop gee waar daar voorheen geen hoop was nie. Dit is die boodskap wat aardskuddend en lewensveranderend is. Die boodskap van Christus is die tyding wat ons daartoe bring om die aardse dinge in ons lewens te laat afsterf. Dit lei ons daarheen om afgodery in ons lewe dood te maak. Dit bring ons daarheen om met die ou sondige mens en sy gewoontes te breek. Kortom: hierdie boodskap is die Evangelie, die blye boodskap waardeur ons tot volle kennis van God gekom het. Ons weet daardeur dat ons verlos is in Christus. Ons word ingelig dat ons vry is van die sonde en die dood, en dat ons nou beheers deur die Heilige Gees lewe as God se eie kinders. Die boodskap van Christus is dit waardeur ons soos die uitverkore volk van God lewe. Ons moet onsself dan ook vra: Wat moet ons maak met die boodskap van Christus? Ons moet dit beslis nie afskeep nie, en ook nie vir onsself hou nie. Die boodskap van Christus lei al God se kinders tot innige onderlinge liefde. Daarom gaan ons teen die boodskap van Christus in as ons dit nie met mekaar deel nie. Hoe deel ons die boodskap van Christus met mekaar? Deur daaraan gehoorsaam te wees. Ons laat ons lewens vol word van die evangelie, en leer mekaar daarin. Ons kom om die Woord van die Here saam en verdiep ons in die openbaring van die Here. Ons loof en prys die Here saam as gemeenskap van die gelowiges deur sang en gebed. So sien ons die effek wat die boodskap van Christus gesamentlik in almal van ons moet hê. Absolute dankbaarheid wat ons hele lewe beheers. Dankbaarheid dat ons saam kinders van God mag wees. Dankbaar dat ons sy heiliges is. Northern Knights beklink plaaslike kriekettoernooi Krieketnuus

Die Northern Knights van Polokwane het skoonskip gemaak deur al hul wedstryde te wen tydens die Ses-aan-‘n-kant kriekettoernooi wat die afgelope naweek ten bate van Levubu Hokkie op Louis Trichardt gehou is. Die Northern Knights het met gemak deurgedring na die finaal, waar hulle teen die Gripens van Lugmagbasis Makhado te staan gekom het. Die Knights was net te sterk en het redelik gemaklik gewen met 54 lopies. Die beste kolwer van die dag was Wayne WellerBlaber van die Northern Knights en die beste bouler was Don Mashego, ook van die Northern Knights.

Wat die kompetisie vir gemengde spanne betref, was dit die Louis Trichardt Tigers wat met die louere weggestap het. Die Tigers het al twee hul uitdunwedstryde gewen en in die finaal te staan gekom teen die R&S-span van Levubu. Hier het die Tigers met 18 lopies gewen. Die dag is aangebied deur die Levubu Dames Hokkie, ten bate van die Limpopo meestersvroue hokkiespan. Dit is die eerste jaar wat Limpopo ‘n meesterspan ingeskryf het vir die liga, en die vroue Die wenners van die afdeling vir gemengde spanne, die Louis Trichardt Tigers.
