Musina Municipality has welcomed the presidential declaration of the national disaster, following the outbreak of the coronavirus in South Africa and the world. Musina Mayor Mihloti Muhlope said the municipality would abide with all the precautionary measures as announced by Pres Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday. She said as a border town, the community of Musina should always be on high alert because thousands of people crossed the Beit Bridge border post daily. “We commend the Department of Health and all stakeholders who are conducting screening at the border post. Despite the concern about the number of infections that is growing daily, we are satisfied by the preparedness of our government towards the fight against this pandemic. This situation does not face the government alone. We all have to come together to fight and win the war against this difficult situation that we are facing now.” Muhlope said the municipality had suspended all major gatherings. “We will stick to the notion that all gatherings should be suspended unless it is impossible to do

so. If the gathering is of utmost importance, it should be comprised of fewer than 100 people as per the President’s instruction. However, strict precautionary measures should be taken in every meeting, no matter how small the number of attendees is.” She said despite the closure of schools and institutions of higher learning, the municipality would remain open but strict precautionary measures would be taken to make sure that workers and community members were safe. “We are in an emergency, but at the same time, our people should be served. We encourage community members to come to the municipality in small groups and to avoid long queues. Practising safe hygiene is the most important preventative measure that we can use.” She outlined some preventative measures that the municipality has put in place: “Sanitizers have been put in the bathrooms and at front desks to ensure employees and visitors wipe their hands regularly. The Limpopo case caused somewhat of a panic when reports on social media indicated that the case had been reported at the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital. Dit is seker ook teen hierdie tyd ou nuus dat ‘n groot storie soos hierdie in die era van sosiale media-oorheersing ‘n groot klomp disinformasie en fopnuus genereer. Die verskynsel van “godsdienstige fopnuus” bly ook nie baie ver agter nie. Die dag ná president Cyril Ramaphosa die noodmaatreëls teen die verspreiding van hierdie virus in Suid-Afrika afgekondig het, is daar reeds sommiges wat hulself daarteen uitgespreek het. Hoekom? Want volgens hulle is dit ‘n daad van wantroue en ongeloof in God om enige voorsorgmaatreëls na te kom. Hoekom? Want God belowe mos Hy sal met ons wees en ons beskerm, en as ons nou self voorsorg tref, beledig ons Hom! Vers 2 van ons teks sê mos juis: “As jy deur water moet gaan, is Ek by jou, deur riviere, hulle sal jou nie wegspoel nie; as jy deur vuur moet gaan, sal dit jou nie skroei nie, die vlamme sal jou nie brand nie.” God sal alle gevare van ons weghou, word beweer. Ons hoef niks te doen nie. As jy hard genoeg glo, sal iets soos die Coronavirus nie naby jou kom nie. Wat dan nou van die gelowiges wat wel al deur die virus geraak is? Wat van alle gelowiges deur die eeue wat al onder verskeie rampe deurgeloop het? Hoekom is die gevaar nie van hulle af weggehou nie? Is die Here werklik betroubaar in sy beloftes, of is Hy ‘n leuenaar? Bogenoemde vrae is die resultaat van ‘n misbruik van die Bybel; van godsdienstige fopnuus. As die Woord van die Here nie met die nodige respek gebruik word nie, veroorsaak dit wantroue. Wat is dit dan wat die Here vir ons met hierdie vers, en hierdie hele gedeelte, sê? Hy sê vir ons in vers 1 inderdaad dat ons nie bang hoef te wees nie. Ons het niks te vrees nie, want Hy het ons geskep, en ons geroep as sy kinders en sy eiendom. Hy is so jaloers beskermend oor sy kinders wat Hy deur sy Seun Jesus Christus verlos het, dat niemand ons uit sy hande sal losruk nie. Wanneer God ons dan beskerm, moet ons mooi raaksien hoe dit werk. Ons moet luister na wat vers 2 sê, nie wat ons dink dit sê nie. God belowe dat Hy daar sal wees as ons deur water en vuur (lees: die moeilikhede van die lewe) moet gaan. Hy sê NIE dat Hy die vuur en water wegneem nie! Dit sal daar wees, en dit sal ons lewens raak, maar Hy sal ook met ons wees, en ons beskerm. Die water sal ons nie wegspoel nie, en die vuur sal ons nie brand nie. Die effek van die rampe en moeilikhede in ons lewens kan nooit groter wees as die wil van God nie, maar hierdie dinge is nog steeds daar. God regeer daaroor, daarom hoef ons dit nie te vrees nie. Kom ons neem die huidige virus-pandemie as ‘n voorbeeld: Dit is hier. Niemand kan dit wegpraat nie. Tog is dit nie toeval of noodlot nie, maar God wat bepaal wat die uitwerking hiervan gaan wees. God neem dit nie nou dadelik weg nie, en mense (ook gelowiges) gaan daardeur geraak word. God se beskerming vir baie sal beteken dat hulle glad nie eens siek sal word nie. Vir andere kan God se beskerming beteken dat hulle wel siek word, maar weer genesing sal ontvang. En selfs al gebeur dit wat in die mens se oë die ergste is, dat iemand hul lewe verloor aan hierdie siekte, weet ons dat dit ook die manier is waarop God sy kinders na Hom in hul ewige tuiste bring, die plek wat oneindig beter is as ons aardse lewe. Vir God se kinders is die dood nooit ‘n nederlaag nie, maar die grootste oorwinning. Vir God is sy kinders kosbaar, en Hy los ons nie net alleen nie. Hy gee die hele wêreld prys as losprys as Hy net sy kinders kan bewaar. Ons mag Hom nooit wantrou, en dink Hy gee nie om vir ons nie. Ons mag Hom egter ook nie uittart of versoek deur onverskillig om te gaan met ernstige sake soos die Coronavirus nie. Ons het ‘n verantwoordelikheid teenoor Hom, en ons naaste, om so veilig as moontlik met hierdie saak om te gaan. God is die groot beskermer van lewe. Kerke maak gereed vir coronavirus Deur Anton van Zyl Verskillende kerke se gemeentes in Louis Trichardt het die afgelope week maatreëls ingestel om die verspreiding van die coronavirus te beperk. Die maatreëls wissel van gedwonge kleiner groepe by eredienste tot die afstel van dienste tot ná die Paasnaweek. Die NG Kerk Moedergemeente het Dinsdag ‘n buitengewone kerkraadsvergadering gehou om die kwessie te bespreek. “Die kerkraad het besluit om alle eredienste in die kerkgebou tot en met ná Paasnaweek af te stel,” het ds. Jan Pretorius in ‘n brief aan die gemeente gesê wat uitgestuur is ná afloop van die vergadering. Moedergemeente beplan om tegnologie te gebruik om die gemeente in die interim te bedien. Dit sluit in om dienste via die Youtube videokanaal uit te saai asook Whatsapp-groepe te gebruik om inligting te versprei. Die gemeente het ook ‘n beroep op lidmate gedoen om kleingroep-aktiwiteite soos Bybelstudiegroepe vir eers af te stel. Selfs begrafnisdienste en troues word geraak en die gemeente doen ‘n beroep op lidmate om reëlings aan te pas en gaste (in die geval van troues) te beperk. Ds. Pretorius het ook ‘n beroep op lidmate gedoen om werkers soos huisbediendes en tuinwerkers in ag te neem in hierdie tydperk. Hierdie werkers moet dikwels van openbare vervoer gebruik maak en indien dié dienste ingeperk word, raak dit hulle direk. “Ons versoek lidmate om in hierdie tyd veral ook te let op die welstand van hulle werknemers en om voort te gaan met die betaling van lone, selfs al kan die werkers nie kom werk nie,” sê ds. Pretorius. Ds. Oud-skoolhoof tree finaal af op ouderdom van 80 Skolenuus

Several pupils of the Ridgeway Preparatory School outside Louis Trichardt recently did their school proud by participating in the Young Performers Awards at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria. They entered the Eisteddfod and were chosen to participate in the 17th National Eisteddfod Young Performers Awards Competition according to their ability at the Eisteddfod that took place in Louis Trichardt last year. In total, 34 were invited and 11 of those went through. The 11 were Moagi Malele, Tshenolo Malele, Mulanga Ramanala, Mulisa Madzhie, Nomini Mashele, Tanatsiwa Madzima, Aryan Ghelani, Ayush Patel, Layla Tigere, Toni Cooper and Kaboyaone Mogwera. Ek wil my dank uitspreek teenoor Sandy James (vorige hoof ), Muralda van der Nest (huidige hoof ) en die hele personeel en elke leerling wat my onderwysloopbaan by die skool ‘n finale hoë bergpiek gemaak het. Ek vertrou my verbintenis met ECS sal nie verbreek word nie. Mag die skool steeds bou op die vaste grondslag – Christus Jesus, ons Leidsman.”

Ná 56 jaar getroue diens in die onderwys het oom Ben Harris finaal in Desember 2019 afgetree. Met sy eerste aftrede vroeërjare by die destydse Transvaalse Onderwys Departement, waar hy as onderwyser, skoolhoof en kringinspekteur gedien het, kon oom Ben nie stilsit nie. Na ‘n paar jaar se bestuur van konstruksieprojekte het oom Ben se liefde vir die onderwys veroorsaak dat hy in Januarie 2002 by Emmanuel Christian School (ECS) buite Louis Trichardt aangesluit het. Hy het altesaam vir 11 jaar by ECS die senior leerlinge in wiskunde en natuur-en-skeikunde onderrig. Sy toewyding, deeglikheid en harde werk spreek vanself, wat daartoe gelei het dat hy selfs in sy finale jaar van onderwys in die 2019 matriekeksamens die top wiskunde onderskeidingskandidaat (U. Lugaga van ECS) in die Soutpansberg Oos-kring (die dorpskole) geproduseer het. Volgens die skoolraad is sy gees van uitnemendheid nie net op akademiese vlak nie, maar ook in sy handhawing van Christelike beginsels. Alhoewel oom Ben nou finaal uit die onderwys getree het, is hy nog steeds betrokke by ECS deur sy dienste beskikbaar te maak vir middagklasse. Sy hart bly maar in die onderwys! Sy kollegas en die bestuur van ECS meen dat hy vir almal ‘n groot inspirasie en voorbeeld is en spreek groot waardering uit vir sy diens by die skool. Tiny Rademeyer het vir haarself ‘n algehele derde plek losgeskiet in die o.21 3P-klas (drie posisies) met ‘n tweede plek in die lê-afdeling en derde plekke in die kniel- en staan-afdeling. Sy was ook algeheel derde in die 10 meter Olimpiese skiet. Afwesig tydens die neem van die foto was Koben Hofmeyr, wat eerste geëindig het in die o.21 spesiale-klas, en Shaun Beeton, wat agste geëindig het in die o.16 Sporter-klas.

Fear not, however, as plans for the annual ZZ2 Kremetart Cycle Race are still going ahead in the Soutpansberg. This popular race will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. According to the race organisers, they have read all press statements of various initiatives, races, companies, organs of state and, ultimately, the concerns of fellow cyclists and they appreciate the seriousness of the outbreak of the virus. “Major concern, panic and fear are racing through the veins of the people of our country. We further appreciate the fact that all races and events scheduled until the end of April are suspended; however, the ZZ2 Kremetart will not take any decision lightly and will most definitely not raise any havoc among the

Parkrun events cancelled for now Parkrun Saturday’s parkrun event in Louis Trichardt has been cancelled in light of the fear that the coronavirus may spread if not controlled properly. “In line with public health advice, we have taken the decision to close all parkrun events across South Africa, Namibia, and Eswatini with immediate effect. Initially, this closure will be in place until the end of March; however, this is largely to bring all parkrun countries into the same timeframe and we very much expect closures to continue through April at least,” write the national organisers of the event. “Going forward, we will update parkrunners regularly and aim to communicate important information as soon as is appropriate,” the letter reads. “Remaining active is incredibly important, and we are working on ways to encourage and support that; however, please do not arrange group gatherings at your parkrun venues whilst parkrun events are suspended.”
