In reaction to the incident, local municipal councillor Ms Maggie Mathalise called upon all people who might be having marital or relationship problems to consult social workers for counselling, rather than resorting to killing each other. Mathalise said that it was also bad that the incident took place during Women’s Months, when the important role of women in society was highlighted. Unity among Thulamela traditional healers Traditional healers in the Thulamela area have finally been able to unite with the formation of the Thulamela Council of Traditional Health Practitioners. The council was launched about a fortnight ago at the Vhembe council chambers during an event attended by many traditional healers and traditional circumcision surgeons from the area. The much-awaited launch was hailed as a victory for all traditional healers in the area and will give the healers a voice that will allow them to be heard. It is aimed at fostering unity among the healers. The healers elected a com-
mittee of 15 members that will be headed by well-known international traditional healer Vho Maine Vho-Tshivhengwa Ramaliba. Speaking during the launch, the head of the disciplinary committee in the province, Dr Frank Xikhavele, said the launch was long overdue. “We have been praying that this day would come among our traditional healers, who are so divided. Among all the districts of the province, Vhembe is the last to launch because of the background we come from, that of disunity.” Xikhavele (86), a pioneer in traditional healing, said healing was a calling from the ancestors which required everyone to work
together for the benefit of the patients. Dr Ephraim Masutha, one of the veterans in the business, said he used nearly a million rand from his pocket over the years trying to better the conditions of traditional healers in the province. “I am close to tears. This has been a long journey for us, but we are happy that it came during our lifetime,” he added. In his acceptance speech, the new chairperson, Maine Ephraim Ramaliba, said he was not a leader but part of the collective. “We will work together as a committee and our traditional healers from this part of the country, and we promise good service to our clients.”

“Church and government to work together” Thulamela Mayor Cllr Grace Mahosi has urged churches to work hand in hand with the government in bettering the lives of poor people. Mahosi made the call in her celebratory speech during a recent function at Lwamondo, during the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Jesus The Word of Life Ministry Church under Pastor Mulingoni Muhali at Lwamondo-Makambe. The event was attended by many pastors from around Vhembe, guests from Thulamela, a councillor, local traditional leaders and many members of the community. During the event, members of the community were awarded certificates in appreciation of their good work. The founder and leader of the church, Pastor Mulingoni Muha-
li, said they achieved many things in the 10 years of their existence. “We have managed to build this church structure for our members to have a place to worship. We started with a shack which is a far cry from what we have today. We also managed to bring many lost souls to the house of the Lord, and we cannot pretend that nothing has happened in this church.” She added that they were greatly humbled “by the way God has worked through us to change people’s lives in this community. This calls for a celebration.” Mahosi said the church and the government needed each other and that the two working together could make a meaningful change in the lives of the residents of Thulamela. “The church could help identify the poor in the community, and together we can
assist them with shelter and food. As government we need prayers, so that we can govern justly, and the church should also help by preaching about respect and the return of morals to our communities. This will make our job easier and this place a better place to live in. In this way, we achieve a better life for all,” she said. She thanked Pastor Muhali for the role she is playing in her community and urged the church to support her vison. Chief Funanani Nelwamondo praised the church and its leader for the role they are playing in the community, while Prophet Elizabeth Shabane of the Synagogue Worship Church at Ha-Mutsha urged the church and its leader to be focussed on God’s work and not be distracted by enemies.

“We have a dream for demarcation journey”
T
o the people of Vuwani, We are about to start a new journey to start new things. We have a dream for this journey, a dream to strive for excellence, job creation and a better life for all. However, we are conscious of the fact that “whatever course we decide on, there is always someone to tell us that we are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt us to believe that our critics are right”. To map out a course of action and follow it to the end requires courage and perseverance. As we take our first step towards the new municipality, we must hold self-discipline as our yardstick to guide us in our journey for excellence, jobs, service delivery and development. Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments. We must start to train ourselves to master this principle in our values of life, so that, when the day comes, we shall be ready. This is the journey (during which) we are not prepared to compromise integrity, commitment and passion for justice, honesty, reliability, responsibility and accountability to anything. In the past months, we learned and had an opportunity to adjust to the newly proposed municipality, which is not for Malamulele or Vuwani as people are so misinformed in our area. We acknowledge that “change is painful”; however, we are grateful that, together, we embrace and sail over that pain of change. We plead with those who resist change to be comfortable, understand and be at ease with one another in the name of political tolerance. We have to set ourselves a new destination: Our vision for the journey ahead is to create a well- disciplined, professional, performance-focused, strong and effective team, based on mutual respect, better communication, fairness, honesty,
reliability, responsibility and accountability. Vuwani Demarcation Task Team is convinced that we have a great team with great potential to realize this dream. As Pres Zuma once said: “Together we can do better.” It is the responsibility of each member of our community to ensure this dream is realized. On our journey we are well aware of the direction of our destiny. For us to be there, we need to be passionate and committed to our course and team spirit. Together we will walk the long journey ahead to the finishing line. On our journey we will commit ourselves to none-divisive conduct and strengthen our team by word and conduct. No one should be above the team. During our journey ahead, we will strive for excellence as opposed to good or better. The service that we will give to our people will be of high quality, in our journey ahead we commit to limit complaints, but to increase compliments from the provincial and national leadership. We shall embrace challenges and learn from difficult situations, pick-up positive and smile all the way to our finishing line. We are conscious of the fact that the happiness is within us, the only thing we have to do is to take a positive step to get positive feelings about ourselves. We are committed to be our people’s true voice for job creation, better service and quality service delivery by being knowledgeable through ongoing research in our field of operation and represent our people with confident and pride. We commit ourselves to promote our new proposed municipality by reaching out to communities and conduct ourselves ethically and professionally. Build effective relationship with other stakeholders to ensure that our poor
communities have access to better life for all, not some. We plead with all communities members to realize the benefits the new proposed municipality will bring about, more jobs, quality service and being responsive to the needs of the communities under its jurisdiction. Misunderstandings will not get us anywhere. We have to engage each other to find a common solution to our problem; after fighting we have to move forward as a unit – we need each other. Hershey Friedman said “A sincere apology allows both parties to move on, stronger than they would have otherwise have been.” We commit to those words and strive to avoid personalizing issues when we are reprimanded for our transgressions. Barrack Obama said to his people “together we can be history makers”. We commit to hold each other`s hand and move side by side with one another, encourage and carry each other to ensure that no one remains behind and no one fails in our course to excellence and unity as Vuwani team. We are confident that all of us have the ability and potential to take Vuwani to the top ten spot not only in the region but nationally. We will dedicate ourselves to consistently recognize and acknowledge the exceptional performance of Makhado Local Municipality despite their failure to develop Vuwani town because of the vastness of the area it serves. Budget allocation to the proposed new municipality will focus on the improvement and development of two towns, which is Vuwani and Malamulele. Allow us to conclude by quoting these words of Ernest J Mchunu: “All recipes for success in life depend ultimately on enthusiasm”. Together we can excel. - Vuwani Demarcation Task Team

t is such an overwhelming sight to witness young people, especially from disadvantaged and remote communities, get up and do things for themselves. When I heard that three young learners from Mitlhari High School in Limpopo had won a prestigious trip to Sweden, I was beyond excited. It felt like I was the one who had won. Instead of sitting around complaining about a shortage or lack of resources in their school and community, they made do with what they had and produced a world-class scientific project that not only earned them an opportunity to represent our country in Sweden, but also study bursaries from the Department of Water and Sanitation to pursue
careers of their choice within the sector. Their project entails the use of a cellphone to control the flow of water in households and community taps and reservoirs, without being physically present. From the dusty village of Shikwambana, the youngsters beat the odds by achieving what many would usually expect from the prominent schools in the suburbs. They won the National South African Youth Water Prize competition run by the Department of Water and Sanitation, beating learners from eight other provinces. What is more inspirational is to see the interest they have in water conservation and the
protection of water resources at such a young age. While their peers are more fascinated with gadgets and spending time on social media, they choose to spend their time looking for innovative ways to conserve water to ensure that their school and community do not suffer the effects of living in a dry and water-stressed country. This just shows that there is ample hope for the possibility of a nation with a youth that is more concerned about the serious issues that the country is facing, whilst also willing to act on them without waiting for the government to provide solutions. - Maduvha Maseda,Tshwane

The team had also planned and were ready to paint the walls, but they had to stop since it was realised that some patients might be allergic to paint. Other arrangements would be made for the walls to be painted. “We are doing this kind of work as a gesture of working with local communities who need our help most,” said general manager Khathu Ramovha. “We have noted some concerns from the staff and, as such, we will see that we assist with what they have asked us to provide. This is only the beginning of a good, beneficial relationship with the clinic, which serves hundreds and hundreds of residents.” A member of the Matsa ward committee, Mr Josias Muthuli, lauded the donors for the good work and said that the clinic had needed some renovation for a very long time. “If the government cannot do all things and meet the needs of all residents and villages at once, then people like the Elias Resort should be allowed to assist where they can,” he said. “This work of goodwill does not mean that those Photographed are some of the workers at the resort, with a representative of the community, Mr involved in it are taking over the work or duties of Josias Muthuli. Newspapers celebrate birthdays in style “A good newspaper is a community’s best friend. Not its sweetest friend, always, though it certainly can be kind and loving in its own special way. And yes, it can be a prickly friend at times, and a bit stubborn as well. And it can be a blunt friend, and unreservedly so. A community’s newspaper is that one friend you can count on to tell
hard truths, to break sad news, to tell it the way it is. “And your community newspaper may disappoint you from time to time, as all friends will. But like a best friend, a good newspaper is THERE.” These were the introductory words of Prof. Bill Reader from the Ohio University on Friday night. He was one of the two guest speakers at a

function to celebrate the Zoutpansberger’s 30th birthday and the 25th birthday of the Limpopo Mirror. He was accompanied by another expert in community journalism, Prof. John Hatcher from the University of Minnesota’s Duluth campus. “Tonight we celebrate three decades of friendship for the communities of this region by the Zoutpansberger and the Limpopo Mirror. They have covered the birth and growth of an entire generation, a generation born into turmoil and tension that is now joining their parents in the hard work of building peace, and they are teaching their own children to strive toward justice and happiness. These two newspapers have helped to build their communities, and it seems they will also help their communities to keep moving forward,” said Reader. The function was attended by more than 200 guests, which included advertisers, suppliers, current and previous staff members and other dignitaries. It was combined with several exhibitions that depicted the history of the newspapers since they were started in 1985 and 1990 respectively. “It is not often that a privately owned community newspaper gets to survive a quarter of a century or longer. Long before that, it either closes down or, if successful, gets taken over by one of the conglomerates,” explained Anton van Zyl, manager of the Zoutnet group. He attributed the success of the newspapers to an extremely supportive community who took ownership of the newspapers.
“A newspaper belongs to the community it functions in and we merely manage it on behalf of the community,” he said. Van Zyl paid homage to the founders of the newspapers, Johann and Melinda du Plessis, who travelled all the way from the Western Cape to attend the function. He described their venture as visionary, especially the establishment of the Limpopo Mirror at a time when few others were willing to produce a newspaper with a predominantly black readership. Van Zyl ascribed the success of the papers to a dedicated and talented team. “It is an achievement to produce a really
good newspaper with well-written articles, a good lay-out and a variety of adverts, but many people can do that. Where it becomes extremely difficult is when you need to do it week after week, year after year. This is where the Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror stand out. For more than a quarter of a century, we have been able to produce quality products week after week, and very few others can say that. For this I thank an excellent team, not only the ones working at the newspapers now, but also the ones in whose footsteps they followed.”
Members of staff, colleagues, advertisers and friends of the Zoutnet group held a huge celebration in Louis Trichardt last Friday evening. The two newspapers, Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror turned 30 and 25 respectively and the achievements of the papers were acknowledged during the event. Above and below is a quick glimpse of the evening.

Cultural festivity marks Netshiavha’s funeral The funeral service of a well-known teacher, cultural activist, chorister and community leader, Thinawanga Emmanuel Netshiavha, resembled a cultural festival as traditional dance groups gave sterling performances to give him a fitting send-off. “Very few people are accompanied to their final resting places with traditional dances and ululations. The fact that we had light showers this morning also indicated that we are not burying an ordinary person here. Of course, our brother was buried like a king. He is gone too soon. He was so fresh, full of courage and handsome,” said family member Rudzani Netshiavha during the funeral. Netshiavha’s best friend, Omo Musandiwa, said: “My best friend is gone. We used to enjoy traditional dances together. He was a traditionalist at heart. That is why we had a night vigil beating the drums and dancing malende at his house yesterday. I’m really shocked and heart-broken.” Netshiavha, who passed away after a short
illness, was buried alongside the grave of his late his mother, Marandela Tshinakaho Netshiavha, at the family’s burial site at Makonde village. At the time of his death, he was a teacher at Khadzinge Secondary School, outside Sibasa. He previously worked at Hasani Mningisi, Tshivhase and Johannes Mulambilu Secondary School. A member of Bono Traditional Dance group and a smart dresser, Netshiavha was also involved in training school pupils in traditional dancing, singing and cultural activities. Affectionately known as Thina, many will remember him for his acrobatic malende and tshifasi dancing skills, both in government and community activities. Born on 17 April 1970, Netshiavha started his primary education at Miluwani Primary School. He completed his Grade 12 at Khwevha Commercial School in 1988. He obtained his Secondary Teacher’s Diploma at the Venda College of Education (Veco) in 1992 and a degree in education at the University of Venda in 2008. He also completed his honours degree from the same institution in 2012. During his teaching career, Netshiavha served as class manager, subject teacher, choir conductor, sports organizer, school uniform controller, educator’s representative, school liaison officer, chairperson of The late cultural activist and teacher, the commercial subjects committee, acting head of department and trainer Thinawanga Emmanual Netshiavha.
of traditional dances. He served as school-governing-body member for Marude, Khadzinge, Mvudi and Thohoyandou Secondary School. At the time of his death, he was Sanco chairperson at Mvudi Park where he was staying. In his role as active member of the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), Netshiavha became chairperson of arts and culture for Vhembe District from 2009 until his untimely death. He was a choir trainer for SADTU’s Phiriphiri branch and also a coordinator for cultural indeginous games at Bono Traditional Community Project and Dzomo la Mupo Foundation. While Thinawanga was at Veco, he got involved in student politics when he was serving in the student representative council. This got him into trouble with the college managagement as he was expelled from the college. On appeal, he got an 18-month suspension. He later came back to the college after serving his suspension. This resulted in huge personal cost to him and his family as he was not able to finish his teacher’s diploma on time. However, his family supported him throughout as they understood and agreed with his support of the struggle. He was a staunch member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Netshiavha is survived by his wife, Gladys, and four children – Tsiko, Tshinakaho, Hulisani and Okhethwaho.

Households in the Nzhelele-area will be the among the first to receive free set-top boxes (STBs) in Limpopo as South Africa is preparing to switch from analogue to a digital television signal. Communications minister Faith Muthambi made her decision public during a digital migration imbizo that she held at Rabali village over the past weekend. Her speech also formed part of an awareness program. “We are trying to raise awareness in the community, so that they can understand and be ready as we roll out this project,” said Muthambi. Muthambi added that her department had prioritized South Africa’s border-lying areas to make the digital switch first. “…we’ve indicated as government that we are going to prioritize these areas in order to protect the country from radio signal interfer-
ence,” said Muthambi. “We are embarking on this consumer awareness campaign, so that our locals can get ready before we roll out the project. We have prioritised Nzhelele to be first border-lying area in this province to benefit from the free STBs that we will be distributing to TV-owning poor households.” According to Muthambi, the inner part of the country will be included at a later stage of the roll-out programme. The need for the switch to digital TV derives from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) resolution where countries in region 1, consisting of Europe, Russia, Africa and the Middle East, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, should change their broadcasting services from analogue to digital by 17 June 2015. The consequences of failing to meet the 2015 deadline to switch off the analogue terrestrial TV signals is that South Africa will no longer be protected against disruptions of the radio waves that are used for analogue television broadcasts. During a feedback meeting in parliament on Tuesday, 11 August, Muthambi assured the government that digital terrestrial television will be implemented Minister of Communications Ms Faith Mu during the next 18 to 24 months. thambi.

The sentencing of notorious armed robber Fhumulani Erick Rambau, who shot and injured a local businessman before robbing him of his cell phone and R40 000 two years ago, was hailed as a blow to criminals in the area. Rambau (40) of Tshisahulu-Siawoadza outside Thohoyandou was sentenced to 26 years’ imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances by the Sibasa Regional Court. The robbery happened in 2013. It is believed he and his accomplice lay waiting at the businessman’s house at Maniini while another accomplice tailed him in a car from his business at
Shayandima in the early hours of 12 May 2013. They shot at him and he lost control of his car and ended up hitting the gate. At the gate the businessman, who is the owner of a well-known drinking joint, Migeroni Restaurant, had his car window broken and the robbers demanded money at gunpoint. They robbed him of cash, which was in a cooler box. The businessman was seriously injured after being shot several times in the chest and arm. Reacting after the sentencing, Thohoyandou police spokesperson Constable Avhafarei Tshiovhe said they were satisfied with the sentence. “It will serve
as a deterrent and those with thoughts of getting involved in crime would think twice before doing so. We hope this will send a clear message to all out there that crime does not pay,” he said. The victim, Takalani Lawrence Masindi (40), said the sentence was a relief to him. “These guys nearly took my life; they sprayed my car with bullets and pumped five bullets into my body. It is just luck that I am still alive, but I still have one of the bullets in my body and have to undergo constant checkups all the time,” he said. Univen mining students visit Venetia Mine De Beers opened its doors to students pursuing mining and environmental geology degrees at the University of Venda during a tour of Venetia Mine last Friday (14 August). The educational tour gave 16 students and two lecturers the opportunity to experience mining theory in practice at the operation’s open pit and the main treatment plant. They were also treated to a visit to the Venetia Underground Project, where De Beers is constructing an underground mine under the existing
open pit. The day’s events also included an overview of the mine by Senior Mineral Resource Manager Siyanda Dludla and an in-depth summary of diamond extraction and geology by Geology Manager Andrew Fourie. Dr Milton Kataka, senior lecturer in the Department of Mining and Environmental Geology, who accompanied the students on the tour, said that field trips exposed the students to the world of mining, “which was, until now, purely theoretical. They have seen the mine plan brought
to life and now have a far better grasp of concepts, which should translate into good grades.” When asked about the experience, student Mishumo Bohwana said that it was the first visit to a mine of such magnitude to most of the students.”We learnt so much on the tour, particularly in terms of the technical side of mining. Seeing the decline and haul trucks and understanding how the plant operates has been instrumental to my studies. I now understand why a diamond is forever.” Univen students stand at the viewpoint of Venetia Mine’s open pit.

“Disgruntled artists must come and see us” - Bobodi
King Goodwill Zwelithini (left) and King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana shake hands after attending a function arranged by the Motsepe Foundation in Pretoria a fortnight ago.
The Makhado Municipality re- displeasure after they were excludThe municipal spokesperson, Louis Bobodi, sponded to the public concern made ed from the line-up of the annual said that all affected singers and musicians were by local artists who had expressed Makhado Show. at liberty to raise concerns with the municipality who would then "sit down with them and see how best their problem could be addressed. If there are some artists who feel that they are being neglected they are free to contact the municipality in order to improve the standard of the show, and we are also inviting members of our community to give us inputs that will take our show to greater heights. Everybody has to be involved. Our doors are always open.” He stated that the artists who performed in the show were mostly selected on the basis of the Vhembe district locality. “It is not our intention to exclude any artists from the Makhado area,” he said. “Service providers are appointed in terms of competence. We are not aware that they select only their friends. However, we will revisit the matter.” One of the artists who had raised the concern after the annual show, King Mlatiro, said he was ready to approach Bobodi directly and see if the municipality was ready to attend to concerned local artists. “The municipality has a tendency of sending people from one office to another, and it strains any sane person at the end of the day,” he said. “We will request Vho-Bobodi to take us straight to the office that is responsible for this matter.” King Mlatiro added that, as local music artists, they had planned to start a forum for the artists within the Makhado area, so that they could speak in one louder voice. “We want to believe that it's also in that way that our municipality will start listening to us,” he said. “If we do not have a forum which represents us, we may continue to suffer King Mlatiro says that local music artists are ready to meet the Makhado while outsiders continue to benefit financially from Municipality. what is rightfully ours.” By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho
Residents still afraid that “evil creature” might return The “evil creature” that had allegedly been terrorising residents in the villages within the Elim area has seemingly disappeared. However, some residents are sceptical that it has gone for good. They suspect that it might come back to strike again whenever it gets hungry and thirty for blood. A victim of the vicious attack, Ms Florah Matombo (44), said that her hand was feeling much better now. “It has not come back, but one cannot say we are relaxed or
safe,” she said. “There's always fear in our hearts because there are some people who say that the evil creature is still around. There are those who say that it is hiding in the mountain near Mashau-Bodwe.” The residents of Chavani village were shocked when a creature, which residents believed had evil strength and energy, attacked and severely injured residents between 23 July and 1 August. All attacks happened in the night or at dawn, when it was dark outside. “It jumped at me and
came straight for my throat with a devilish intention to kill me,” Matombo had said. The creature, which reportedly had the shape of a dog, had supposedly attacked more than 25 residents. Another resident, Maxwell Chauke, said that the residents must get together, contribute some money into one pocket and get a sangoma who would use his or her divine power to kill the evil creature. “This is a serious case – what if it strikes back with more power and kills us all?”

ill patient receives new house Schools’ accountant project bears fruit Mentally It was a joyful moment for a Muladi explained that he only not do it, but if other stakeholders
In an effort to make pupils aware of the importance of accounting at schools and the opportunities in the field, teachers in the Dzindi Circuit came up with the idea of an accounting day on the circuit. Started last year, the day is already showing yields as accounting results in the circuit improved tremendously in the past year. Five schools in the circuit, Khwevha, Ligege, Makakavhale, Ndaedzo and Shayandima Secondary School, recently took part in the day full of activities. One of the coordinators of
the day, Ms Humbulani Mdau, said the idea came last year after it was realized that some days were given academic importance each year, such as the science expos and other days. “We in the commercial sections did not have special days to raise awareness about commercial subjects. The sciences are celebrated each year and many are excelling now, but little is done to encourage pupils to take commercial subjects, even though they are very important as they involve the economy of the country,” she said. “We started targeting Grade
12s, but we have shifted the focus to the lower grades as they are the foundation of the higher grades and institutions of higher learning,” she said. Another organiser, Mr Albert Mususumeli, said that, apart from benefiting the pupils, the project also served as a platform for educators to forge unity and for them to share experiences. “We might be educators, but we do not have the same experience and this gives us time to share our experiences. At the end of the day, the pupil is the winner and we also benefit a lot.”
poor, mentally handicapped woman, Ms Thilivhali Nemalale of Dzimauli Muledane village, when she took ownership of a new five-room house donated to her by the managing director of Masana Skills Development, Mr Phineus Muladi. She used to stay with her children in a small, dilapidated, one-roomed mud house. The official ceremony to mark the laying of the foundation and construction of the house was witnessed by Limpopo’s MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, Mutale Mayor Cllr Sarah Rambuda, different chiefs and community members around Mutale area about three weeks ago.
became aware of Nemalale’s situation when he visited the area. “When I reached Nemalale’s house, I was touched by the family’s poor living conditions. I decided to build her a house,” said Muladi. He said he wanted to restore dignity to the Nemalale family. “It is our responsibility as a company to reach out to the rest of society, uplifting the lives of the poor community members,” he said. According to Muladi, the house cost about R100 000. The mayor of Mutale Municipality, Cllr Sarah Rambuda, said the municipality welcomed the partnership. “Government on its own can-
get involved and emulate what Muladi has done, a lot can be achieved,” she said. Rambuda further encouraged other community members to contribute to the welfare of the poor to uplift the standard of life in this country. Ms Thilivhali Nemalale said she only dreamt of one day getting a house like other residents. She was dwelling in a one-roomed house with her 15-year-old son. “I don’t know how I can thank Muladi. The man just made my dream come true. At times I did not know where to run to with my young son when it rained and during strong winds,” she sobbed.

“Women are precious creations with huge potential” The position of women in areas relating to safety and security, consumer rights, financial management, health, entrepreneurship, morality, leadership, self-development and talent management were highlighted during a women’s seminar as part of celebrating Women’s Month at the Musina show grounds last Wendesday.
When addressing the invited guests and women employees from Musina Municipality, Cllr Sewane Kaunda started by quoting from Proverbs 31:10. Who can find an excellent woman? She is far more precious than jewels. He said that, based on the above scripture, he wanted to emphasise that women were precious creations of God and they had great potential in life. Men should never undermine them, he added. “In South Africa, and Musina in particular, women have for decades played a critical role in Published by Zoutnet CC, trading as Limpopo Mirror of Shop no. 5 the struggle for liberation. Africa,” Kaunda added. He said that the democratic government had paved the way for women to have equal opportunities with men. “The country has pilots and women in senior positions in the military and the police. We have women construction workers building roads and dams. There are women bus and train drivers, and leading women entrepreneurs, including some who are with us here today. Government also promotes commercial farming and the active participation of women in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors.” One of the women who attended the seminar is Lillian Muleya, who thanked the municipality for organizing the event. “We received valuable information and hope that it will become an annual event,” she said.

Service station nears completion To the great joy of the local residents, the extension of Madimbo Thusong Service Centre is now nearing completion. A budget of R1,2 million that has been allocated for the project is covering the construction of four new offices, a kitchen, store room and ablution facilities. Local ward councilor Fistos Mafela said the project had created 13 job opportunities for people of the surrounding villages. “This is a clear indication that we are serious about service delivery, while at the same time creating jobs for local people.” He added that many departments
would render services at the Thusong Service Center “and the offices we have could not accommodate all of them at once. The extension of these offices will enable us to accommodate all the departments simultaneously.” Mr Tamisani Munyai (43) is one of the local community members who are employed by the construction company at the project site. “I’m happy that, upon completion of this project, local people will access government services with ease. The project has brought relief to my family as I can now put some food on the table,” he added.

Terry Mudau ... ... an ultra cool radio personality Terry “The Big Dude” Mudau is an ultra-cool radio personality who always had passion for a career in media. Born and bred on the river banks of Ha-Mutsha, he started schooling at Mutsha Primary School, and he completed his Grade 12 at Dimani in 2007. After visiting the SABC studios in Auckland Park, he saw a presenter in action and fell in love with radio. He started gathering information on how to be a radio announcer. He also started to study journalism. A stint at Caxton News in 2008 at Gauteng proved to be an avenue “The Big Dude” would later use to become a force to be reckoned with in the media industry. The cherry on top of this experience was a certificate in advanced multi-media inhouse training programme, still at Caxton. The saying goes: “Charity begins at home”.
This is relevant to Terry’s official entrance into the radio industry as it was back home at the then newly formed Makhado FM in 2009 where he honed his skills behind the microphone as a DJ and news reader for three years. He went on to polish his skills as a drive-time presenter at Univen Radio in 2011, where he hosted the Afternoon Drive Show. It was in the same year that the ever rising Mudau was snapped up by the SABC’s Phalaphala FM where he became the real Big Dude. His appetite for information, taste for good music, love for his listeners and a zeal to tell it the way it is, place this young announcer amongst the best, despite his young age. In the mixing arena, The Big Dude perfected his skills so well that he quickly became a household name, particularly among his listeners and generally amongst South Africans. It is surely evident: there is no stopping The Big Dude Mudau.

THOHOYANDOU — In a bid to take the game to the people, Highlandspark Silver Stars have decided to move their Castle Premiership League match against Black Leopards from the Peter Mokaba Stadium to the Nkowankowa Stadium in Tzaneen. The teams will fight for the league points on Sunday, starting at 15:15. Both Silver Stars and Lidoda Duvha have been booted out of the CocaCola KO Competition. Leopards lost to Orlando Pirates while Silver Stars allowed Jomo Cosmos to proceed to the next stage of the competition. Leopards’ brand manager, Tshifhiwa Thidiela, was last week reported as saying that their defeat in their Coca-Cola Cup fixture was a blessing in disguise and they will now focus on their league programme. According to him, their aim is to finish among the top three teams at the end of this season should they fail to win the league title. The Marketing Manager of Stars,

the incident and said police will conduct forensic tests on the samples of the porridge. “We immediately visited the family after we received the information about the porridge. We have taken samples of the porridge and these will be sent urgently to our forensic department for tests. The results of the tests will be communicated to the family as soon as they are available…” * It is not the first time for Mirror to report on events of this nature. Earlier this year, flowerpots were mysteriously flying and smashing windows at the home of the Phidza family, in Lwamondo village. The Musekene family of Hadumasi also had the same problem when their white porridge suddenly turned yellow. Another family at Halambani was terrorized by evil stones from nowhere that destroyed their house in 2003. Stone particles came out of the princess’s private parts at Hakutama a few years ago. Evil fire from nowhere also terrorized a family at Makongoza, Nzhelele, some years ago.

will never work because I believe in the powers of the Lord…” Mmbangiseni said she bought the maize meal at the local supermarket and she had not encountered any problem with it before. “After the first porridge changed the colour, villagers persuaded me to cook the second one in their presence. This one never changed and I can’t understand why the first one changed. I think there are people who are practicing witchcraft to destroy my family…” Mmbangiseni says the porridge tastes very bitter and it is clear that it is contaminated with something unusual. “I tasted a very small sample while the porridge started changing colour in the pot and my tongue is very painful. I definitely have to see a doctor because the pain is getting worse. I even touched the porridge and my hand has been very painful since then…” Mmbangiseni’s neighbour, Azwifarwi Malume, was also complaining of pain in her hand after touching the porridge. “I only wanted to feel the texture of the evil porridge but I now regret doing so because my hand is burning with pain. This is the worst kind of witchcraft I have ever come across…” Mmbangiseni’s husband, Freddy, said he was retuning from a local stream when he found a bemused throng of people at his home. “I instructed my wife to keep the porridge in a safe place so that we may show other villagers what we came across. Why on earth did this happen to us? This is very mysterious and the safety of my family

Seven people, including five young children, were killed in the umpteenth bus accident on local roads during the past few years, when a bus ferrying pre-schoolers overturned on a steep hill early last Thursday morning at Tshithuthuni Village in the Nzhelele area. The deceasead are Ms Sarah Denga (60), Phathutshedzo Phaswana (20), Mulalo Mudau (4), Orifha Singo (3), Sedzani Nthambeleni (4), Ronaldo Phaswana (4) and Thingahangwi Madada (4). About 80 people were injured, some of them critically. The bus was transporting the pre-schoolers to Pretoria for an educational tour when the accident took place. The owner of Khakhu Pre-school, Mr Jeffrey Mudau, said the entire community was extremely shocked by the incident. that there was speculation that the bus’s brakes had failed. “A culpable homicide case has been opened,” he added. The MEC for Roads and Transport, Ms Pinky Kekana, and the MEC for Education, Mr Namane Masemola, have sent messages of condolence to the families of the deceased. Kekana and Masemola will meet with bus operators and taxi associations on October 6, to discuss the safe transporting of pupils. Mr Edward Randima, deputy-chairperson of the Khakhu-Makuleni Territorial Council, said although the families, friends and community accepted what had happened, they would not forget the horrific deaths that had robbbed them of their friends. A representative of the families, Emmanuel Denga, said that the families had accepted the loss, although it was difficult to cope without them. “It also important to acknowledge the community support since we received the bad news,” he said. A spokesperson stated that any assistance from the side of the community to the affected families would be most welcome and greatly appreciated. Sea Robbers the new Mabena champs
MT Green Mambas beat Mudaswali United
Wayeni Sea Robbers were crowned the new champions of the Mabena Mashamba soccer tournament after they hammered Mulima FC 4-0 at the Mashamba grounds a fortnight ago. The game started at a high pace, with Robbers breaking the deadlock in the fourth minute. Engetani Sambo caught the keeper of Mulima napping and beat him with a ground cutter. Gasper Maluleke, who scored a brace in the game, made his presence felt in the 29th minute when he beat three
MT Green Mambas beat Mudaswali United Brothers 3-2 in their losers’ final of the Mulindavhathu Soccer Challenge at the Khubvi Tshiseluselu grounds on Sunday. United Brothers were down and out in the first half. Green Mambas capitalized to take a 3-0 lead when the proceedings for the first half came to an end. Mambas’ Rastafarian striker, Lawrence Mudzanani, received a brilliant pass from Thomas Matodzi inside the penalty box in the 11th minute and beat the keeper with a ground cutter. Instead of using that as a wake-up call, Brothers continued to make silly mistakes within their own danger area. Mambas increased the margin in the 24th minute. Mudzanani was on target again, following a clearing error by Brothers’ right back, Lawrence Nkhanedzeni, just outside the box. Pressure continued to mount on the Brothers’ defence and Mambas scored their third goal nine minutes before the referee, Mr Christopher Mugeri, blew the half-time whistle. Itani Sikhipha finished off Rofhiwa Nekhumbe’s square pass to bring the half-time score to 3-0. United Brothers rectified their mistakes and started to play like a team in the last half. They pulled one back in the 57th minute. Their overlapping midfielder, Hulisani Netshiomvani, was
defenders in a row before showing the keeper the wrong way. Shortly thereafter, Vongani Manyike of Mulima was reprimanded with a card for a dangerous tackle on Kulani Madlakati. The score at the break was 2-0 for the team from Wayeni. Gasper Maluleke completed his brace in the 67th minute. He finished off a rebound after Engetani Sambo’s close-range attempt missed the target. Robbers put matters beyond doubt when Chezy Ngomane scored his team’s fourth goal in
the 77th minute, when he beat the keeper with a ground cutter. Kulani Madlakati of Sea Robbers was named player of the tournament. The top goal scorer award went to Chezy Ngomane, the youngest player award to Alifheli Sivhi of Mulima and the coach of the tournament went to Mr JJ Amukelani of Sea Robbers. Thabelo Tshikweta of Mulima won the fair play award and Hlamulo Makhubele of Sea Robbers was the goalkeeper of the tournament.

New athletics club for Mutale area The Seven Villages Athletics Club in Mutale will do its utmost to keep the young people of the area busy in a constructive way, so that they will not be lured into unlawful activities such as crime and substance abuse. According to Mr Thivhulawi Mbevhana, secretary of the club, the athletics club is the brainchild of the Seven Villages Development Forum. The fo-
rum focuses on the developing of villages such as Ngalavhani, Mabila, Helula, and Mufulwi through education, sports, arts and culture. It has already organized a campaign against human trafficking, aimed at educating young people to be vigilant against gangs who want to abduct them. Mbevhana said that they gathered on Saturday at the Mufulwi sports ground
after they realised that if the young people were participating in sports, they would not get involved in crime. “We will invite the young people to gather every Saturday to practise several sporting codes, such as athletics, soccer and netball. He said the club was also preparing for a fun walk from Savhani River in Ngalavhani to the Matavhela Secondary School on 16 December.
MTG & PIB increase Thulfa sponsorship The Thulamela Local Football Association will continue to enjoy sponsorship from MTG and PIB for next soccer season. This was revealed by the general manager of the two companies, Mr Shudufhadza Magwabeni, during the league’s prize-giving ceremony at the 2 Ten Hotel Hall at Sibasa on Sunday. Magwabeni indicated that they were happy with the manner in which the association was administering their finances. The ceremony was a success, despite the fact that some clubs' representatives walked out of the hall during the proceedings. The disgruntled parties felt that the association should have kept the prize-giving ceremony on hold until all pending disciplinary cases had been finalized. The champions from the seven streams were each presented with R7 000. The prizes for stream B and G were not dished out during
the ceremony. This, according to the treasurer of the association, Mr Marcus Mukumela, was due to the fact that the clubs from the two streams were affected by the pending disciplinary cases. The champions from the seven streams who received their prizes during the ceremony were: Begwa FC (A), Langutani Blue Birds (C), Duthuni Happy Boys (D), Manamani Black Snake (E), Tshiawelo Bosveld (F), Shadani Dangerous Scorpions (H) and Mutale Vikings (I).The prizes for the MTG and PIB Soccer Challenge were also presented during the ceremony. The champions, Arsenal FC, took home R20 000, gold medals, a soccer kit and a soccer ball. The runners-up, Munangwe United Brothers, were given cash of R15 000, silver medals, soccer kit and a soccer ball. Khubvi Peace Makers, who obtained the
third spot in the competition, were presented with R7 500, bronze medals, soccer kit and a soccer ball while the fourthplaced side, Mukula Mighty Killers, received R5 000, soccer kit and a soccer ball. Teams that were booted out of the competition in the quarterfinal stage, Beuster Mighty Chiefs, Maraxwe Happy Boys, Tshaulu Powerlines and Tswinga Peace Makers, were each presented with a soccer kit and soccer ball. The player of the tournament award was presented to Mashudu Netshitavhe from Arsenal FC. The goalkeeper of the tournament award went to Zwivhuya Mmbengwa of Khubvi Peace Makers. The recipient for the goal of the tournament award was Mahloli Chauke of Munangwe United Brothers, while Madambi Bandzi of Khubvi Peace Makers received the top goal scorer award.

Help to develop soccer in rural areas The president of Safa Vhembe, Mr George Kubayi, is appealing to businesspeople to help the association in developing soccer in the rural areas. In the key-note address he delivered during the recent prize-giving ceremony of the Mutale Football Association held at The Big Tree Holiday Lodge at Zwigodini, Kubayi said the community, team owners, and soccer administrators were doing their best to develop young talent in rural areas. It was, however, difficult to develop soccer in rural areas such as Mutale because of unfavourable conditions, such as the lack of resources, he added. "Our boys are very talented, but there is no single artificial pitch in Mutale. There is not even a single professional pitch in Mutale. These conditions make it difficult for our players to perform well during play-offs and other important games that are played on artificial pitches or professional grounds, because they are not used to it." He mentioned that most of the rural boys suffered from stage fright as they would be seeing such pitches for the first time in their lives. "This leads to underperformance of their teams as players fail to express themselves in such a new environment," said Kubayi. The chairman of the Mutale Football Association, Mr Ntodeni Mulovhedzi, hailed all the teams for a job well done. During the ceremony, Tshisimani Top Challengers were given R6 500 and a floating trophy for being the overall champions after playing against other three champions from the Super League Stream: Musunda United Brothers, Musunda Northern Topio and Thengwe Flying Peace.
The second-best team, Musunda United Brothers, received R5 500 while the other two teams, Thengwe Flying Peace and Musunda Northern Topio, received R4 800 each.

McDonald’s honours for Benny’s By Kaizer Nengovhela Benny’s Care were crowned the provincial champions of the McDonald’s U14 schools league in Polokwane on Saturday. They hammered SS Kgakwa Secondary from the Capricorn district 7-0 in the final. In the thrilling final, the enthusiastic young players showed off their exceptional football skills and dribbled, passed and kicked their way to the top of the log. The coach of Benny’s, Mr Mbishi Mokwena, said that he was happy with the way the team was gelling during the games. “The boys were doing their best and we have a good understanding.” He added that their aim was to use
the tournament as a stepping stone to the national championship. “Apart from the fact that there is a lot at stake in the competition, it is time for us to fulfil our promises,” he said. “We are proud of it and we want to keep the tradition going.” Mokwena stated that they had a squad that had all the ingredients for winning the national championship this year. “I’ve told my boys that we can perform well this year, if we only focus and give our best. We are ready for the national final. By winning this year’s national final, we will not only make ourselves proud, but the community, our school and the province as well,” said Mokwena. The president of Sasfa Limpopo, Mr Hulisani Mabasa, praised McDonald’s
for their decision to sponsor school football. “I’m very proud that we have grown young people of real quality,” he said. He added that he was convinced that the association would produce stars in future who would receive international recognition. He further indicated that football had risen to be the world’s number one sport in terms of participation and spectatorship. Benny’s care received several individual awards after the event. Trophies were awarded to Gundu Maluma (player of the tournament), Fresh Ngobeni (goalkeeper of the tournament), Mbishi Mokwena (coach of the tournament) and Results Kwerani (goal scorer of the tournament). The national championship will be held from 1 to 3 October in Pretoria.
