He stated that the DA would be raising these matters in Parliament and would be calling on the Minister of Home Affairs and the director general to make urgent interventions at the Makhado office in order to ensure that the department deliver on its mandate. The spokesperson for Limpopo Home Affairs, Mr Thabo Mokgola, said that the department was not keen to provide any comment to the DA’s allegations.

An unannounced visit to the Makhado Home Affairs office by the DA’s shadow Minister of Home Affairs, Haniff Hoosen, revealed some disturbing trends at the local office. Hoosen was joined by the DA’s local representatives, Cllr Bessy Jones and Cllr Aluwani Raphalalani, when he visited the region last week. Main Line Passenger Services, the long-distance passenger rail service of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), has announced the re-introduction of two train services between Johannesburg and Musina (via Polokwane), effective from 29 August. The announcement follows the re-introduction of the passenger rail service earlier this year, following an almost-four-year

absence. According to PRASA, this service was withdrawn in 2014 as a result of the rationalisation of train services; however, due to popular demand, Main Line Passenger Services decided to reinstate the service. The three suspects who were arrested at the Beit Bridge border post on 4 August this year for being in possession of a large amount of illegal explosives appeared in the Musina Magistrate court yet again on Thursday, 16 August. It was Murano Floyd (26), Tindora Munthisi (33) and 37-yearold Tichavanwe Supai’s third

court appearance since their arrest. They were again denied bail and their case postponed until 20 August for further police investigations. The three were arrested after the truck they were travelling in was stopped at the border by SARS officials for scanning purposes. Upon scanning, authorities noticed something suspicious inside the truck and decided to

investigate. This ultimately led to the discovery of a consignment of explosives with an estimated street value of R300 000. It consisted of 750 blasting caps and three rolls of explosive cable. The truck the three were traveling in was also confiscated by the police. Meanwhile, police have yet to determine the origin and destination of these explosives.

The Louis Trichardt Rotary Club again hosted their annual youth exchange programme during the June/July school holiday. As part of the programme, foreign students stay over with host families in Louis Trichardt, while the town’s youth exchange children in turn go and stay over at the students’ host families during the December holiday. ‘n Oplettende inwoner van Louis Trichardt, mnr. Len van der Walt, het die afgelope week ‘n redelik duur digitale Nikon-kamera opgetel, terwyl hy besig was om te stap. Len het die kamera in die lang gras naby AfriForum se boorgat aan die bo-punt van President Steynstraat gevind. “Dit lyk asook die kamera al vir ‘n geruime tyd in die veld gelê het,” het Len aan die Zoutpansberger gesê. Vir diegene wat wonder – ja, die kamera werk nog. “Die kamera is nog in perfekte werkende toestand, maar dit lyk of dit lank in die veld gelê

Die kinders sal elke dag ‘n gekookte middagete ontvang in hierdie veilige plek. Prettige geverfde karakters in pragtige helder kleure baljaar oor al die mure. Daar is boeke, speelgoed, en baie Sentrumbestuurder me. Die Elim Beja Plaaswag het verlede Vrydag die wenners van hulle gelukkige trekking kompetisie aangewys. Die trekking van die pryswenners se name is by Werda Motors deur die maatskappy se finansiële bestuurder, Sandra Leeson, gedoen. Charl Venter het namens die Elim Beja Plaaswag vir Werda Toyota bedank vir die professionele hantering van die trekking. Hy het ook vir Leach Printers bedank vir die druk van die kaartjieboekies, asook

elkeen wat ‘n kaartjie help ver koop of self ‘n kaartjie gekoop het. “Ons is baie dankbaar aan die borge van die waardevolle pryse,” het Venter gesê. Die eerste prys, ‘n blouwilde beesjag ter waarde R11 000, geborg deur Coila Safaris, is gewen deur Deon van Tonder. Nick Smit het met die tweede en derde prys weggestap, wat ingesluit het die jag van ‘n rooibokram, geborg deur TJ Safaris, en ‘n 25-watt LED Sniper kollig, geborg deur Cycle Centre. Beide pryse het ‘n waarde van R2 500. Alta Schwerdtfeger het met

Inwoners het met hartseer verneem van die skielike afsterwe van me. May-Henriette Mostert, oud-inwoner van Louis Trichardt. May-Henriette was saam met haar man Bossie op Plaas Marius by die Hendrik Verwoerd tonnels toe sy die oggend van 21 Augustus skielik aan ‘n hartaanval oorlede is. Sy was 47 jaar oud gewees. “Vir ons as familie was dit onverwags en ‘n groot skok,” het eggenoot Bossie gesê. Wyle MayHenriette sal op Dinsdag, 28 Augustus, om 10:00 vanuit die Lede in Christus Kerk in Louis Trichardt begrawe word. Sy word oorleef deur haar ma, Annette Pieterse, man Bossie, seun DJ, dogter Uryke, skoonseun Gustav en ander familie. “Ons bedank almal vir hulle bystand en woorde van vertroosting. Soutpansberg spog met eie praktiese skietklub Skietnuus

Louis Trichardt en omstreke spog nou met hulle eie praktiese skietklub, met die stigting van die Schyffontein Praktiese Skietklub. Die skietklub is Dinsdagaand tydens ‘n stigtingvergadering in die Fransie Vermaaksaal in die lewe gebring. Die doel van die klub sal wees om die skietsport binne die raamwerk van die International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) en die South African Practical Shooting Association (SAPSA) te bevorder, asook om die skietsport binne die raamwerk van die twee organisasies bekend te stel, wat vuurwapens insluit soos handwapens, haelgewere en gewere. Persone wat op nasionale vlak en internasionale vlak wil gaan meeding, moet onderskeidelik by die IPSC and SAPSA geregi

streer wees. Die klub bied egter ruimte vir diegene wat net vir die pret of as familie die sportsoort wil beoefen, sonder om by bogenoemde organisasies te affilieer. Praktiese skiet behels die skiet van verskuilde en bewegende teikens, asook valplate, in ‘n ge slote baan. Dit moet gebeur teen tyd en algehele puntetelling. Daar is reeds bane waar geskiet kan word op die plaas Schyffontein (vandaar die naam), sowat ses kilometer uit op die Bluegumspoort-pad. Die voorlopige bestuurskomitee wat tydens Dinsdagaand se vergadering verkies is, wat goed ondersteun is deur lede van die publiek, is Bez Bezuidenhout as voorsitter, Frik Kroukamp as ondervoorsitter, Wiann Bezuidenhout as tesourier en Karen Bezuidenhout as sekretaresse. Two local youngsters in SA team Polocrosse

Two junior polocrosse players from Louis Trichardt, Jamin Schuch (under 14) and Istvan Schuch (under 16), were recently selected to represent South Africa in a recent international series played against a Barbarian team consisting of players from Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Zambia. As part of the Limpopo Cru-

saders Polocrosse Club, brothers Jamin and Istvan competed at the tournament from 17 to 19 August at Shongweni in Natal. In a very close contest, the u/14 South African team beat the Barbarians by two matches to one. Jamin was awarded the best u/14 player overall in the series. He was also voted best South African player by the Barbarian team. The u/16 South African team lost the series to a very

strong Barbarian team. Polocrosse is an equine sport where both horse and the rider are considered to be finely tuned athletes, and much hard work and training goes into the preparation of both horse and rider. ‘n Span van 35 toegewyde bergfietsryers van Hoërskool Louis Trichardt het Saterdag Polokwane se ysige wind en weer trotseer om die skool se voorsprong te verdedig in die provinsiale Spur XCO Skoleliga. Die Triegies-span het ‘n vroeë voorsprong op die punteleer behaal deur altesaam 135 punte in te samel tydens die eerste XCO-liga, die Tour de Plaas Eliz-Marie het ook ‘n derde plek in die afdeling vir Youth-meisies by Hoërskool Merensky, met Stanford losgetrap. Lake Kollege tweede met 96 punte en PHS van Polokwane derde met 88 punte. Haar ouer kompetisie het haar letterlik kort voor die einpunt verby gesteek, maar

haar tyd van 33 minute en 16 sekondes oor drie rondes was steeds goed genoeg om vir haar ‘n eerste plek in die Youth-meisies afdeling te besorg. Spanmaat Eliz-Marie het ook ‘n derde plek in die afdeling vir Youth-meisies losgetrap in 36 minute en ses sekondes. Die junior meisies-afdeling het ook vir drama gesorg. Triegies se Christelle Coetzer moes hard werk om haar derde plek in die wedren te behou. Sy het egter kort voor die eindpaal op die derde en laaste ronde ‘n tegniese probleem ontwikkel en moes met haar fiets na die wenpaal hardloop. Dit het toe vir spanmaat Karla “Vossie” van Zyl, wat ook hard moes werk om naby die voorste bondel te bly, die kans gegee om haar verby te steek en sodoende haar eerste podiumplek in die liga in te palm. Sy was derde in 35 minute en 37.5 sekondes. Buiten vir die drie podiumplekke, het 12 ander ryers Top 10 plekke ingepalm. Vier van hulle, Richard Lambert (junior seuns), Christelle Coetzer (junior meisies), Calvin Lee (Youth seuns) en Danelle Venter (sub-junior meisies) het vierde plekke gekry. In die seuns Nipper-afdeling was Peroux du Preez 12de, Wian Bezuidenhout 26ste, Gerhard Furstenburg 32ste en Nicolas Archer 34ste. Renette Nel het op haar beurt ‘n 15de plek in die meisies Nipper-afdeling ingepalm. In die sub-Nipper afdeling vir seuns was Aiden Bruce negende. Heelparty seuns het in die Sprogs-afdeling vir seuns gery, met Brendan Bruce vierde, Matthew Lee 11de, Jacques Crafford 12de en Daniel Lee 18de. Eleen Furstenburg was die vyfde Sprogs-meisie tuis.
